EXPLORING THE KR00K ATTACK BY HEXWAY

More than a billion users of wi-fi enabled devices around the wold are vulnerable to hacking due to a microchip design flaw discovered by ESET researchers.

Dubbed Kr00k by the ESET team that discovered it, the flaw affects the most common Wi-Fi chips found in todayโ€™s electronic devices โ€” most common in smartphones, tablets, laptops and connected devices like smart TVs, smart speakers, toys and appliances โ€” that havenโ€™t been patched. The vulnerability also impacts wi-fi access points and routers.

Among the vulnerable devices are client devices by Amazon (Echo, Kindle), Apple (iPhone, iPad, MacBook), Google (Nexus), Samsung (Galaxy), Raspberry (Pi 3) and Xiaomi (Redmi), as well as access points by Asus and Huawei.

Here is a new research from hexway. They created and published a PoC exploit of the kr00kย attack.

The vulnerability works as follows:

  1. The victim connects to a WiFi hotspot
  2. The adversary sends disassociation requests to the client and, by doing so, disconnects the victim from the hotspot
  3. Wireless Network Interface Controllers (WNIC) WiFi chip of the client clears out a session key (Temporal Key) used for traffic decryption
  4. However, data packets, which can still remain in the buffer of the WiFi chip after the disassociation,ย will be encrypted with an all-zero encryption key and sent.
  5. The adversary intercepts all the packets sent by the victim after the disassociation and attempts to decrypt them using a known key value (which, as we remember, is set to zero)
  6. PROFIT

Do cars have access points?

Sorry if this has been asked already. I have been reading through the sub but couldn't find an answer. Do vehicles have an access point? Can the netrunner hack a car that is with range and shut it down or control it in another way? The netrunner in my game asked. I ruled that they didn't have access points but I would look into it more. From what I understand a character has to physically jack into a vehicle to control it. Thanks for the help.

Problem with Wifi

So yesterday I went to a new hotel and tried connecting to their network, it connected but immediately disconnected. I then tried to connect using nmcli and got the following errors:

For the DHCP error I tried a suggestion in another forum and switched to dhclient, and it didn't solve anything. I don't think the problem is the network itself because it is working on my phone, and it is quite good. This had never occurred to me before, even last month I went to another hotel and could connect just fine to their network with no problems whatsover. So does anyone know any possible solutions?

Roborock S5 Max hacked: being used as data mule?

I've been running the Roborock S5 Max pretty happily for over 6 months now. Itโ€™s been really nice to have the vacuuming taken care of consistently: Win! However, in the last 3 weeks it looks like my device has been hacked. How do I know this?

Answer: Around mid December something started sending my S5 a giant truckload of data: almost 4 TB in an hour. Yes, you read that right: my robot vac was sent almost 4 TERABYTES in 3.5 BILLION packets. During that time, the S5 device attempted to transmit 468 GB (see image below).

Graph of network traffic into the Roborock. The big green spike is a 3.5 billion packet dump, smaller spikes are 500 to 800 million packet dumps.

Edit: Per discussions below, receiving or transmitting this much data is physically impossible for the hardware involved, so the working theory is that there is massive packet loss going on. Somewhat like pointing a firehose at a drinking straw, some of the water will get through, but most of it falls on the floor.

This event, of course, pissed me off. What possible legitimate use case would there be for SENDING a robot vacuum 4TB of data? None that I can think of. Iโ€™ve done a little reading on the Roborock / Xiaomi devices and the data they generate from LIDAR scanning, but it seems like that would generate a much larger upstream (transmit) load, rather than an overwhelming amount of received data. I havenโ€™t done anything to hack the vac. I have allowed it to update itโ€™s firmware through the official Roborock mobile app, other than that, it is as it came in the shipping box.

Iโ€™m happy to hear explanations of this activity somehow being legitimate network use, but you better be damned convincing.

My response has been to limit the devices on my IoT network (which is ONLY this device at the moment) to a low bandwidth. This action seemed to stem the tide, but the device was still receiving almost half a terabyte every few days, usually during the dead of night, and sending out between 50 and 100GB during that same time. You can see those as the smaller green spikes in network use on the right side of the traffic graph.

Now, today, Iโ€™ve had two instances where the device was pushing more than a terabyte in an hour, one early this morning and another just after lunch time. This data dumping probably explains why the S5 vacuum suddenly got a case o

How long does the battery last if undocked but untouched?

Update: IT'S BEEN FOUND! Check out Update #3 below for details

--

Hi,

Long story short, my kid lost our nintendo switch *somewhere* within wifi range of my router and we've now spent the last 9.5 days looking for it.

it's still connected to our modem as I write this. I can "arp-ping" it's IP address from my computer.

She was playing a bunch of animal crossing in the car last sunday, and sometime between her getting out of the van and an hour later when I went to grab the thing to buy some Turnips in AC, *poof* it was gone. I've turned my vehicle upside down, we've deep-cleaned everwhere she was, i've looked all over my bloody house, top to bottom, but no trace of it.

Except that it's apparently still alive.

So my obsrvation is simply: this thing should have been dead a long time ago right? It's not attached to any chargers or the dock, so it's presumably just.. sitting somewhere, collecting dust. But off dock for 9 days? It shouldn't still be active on my network, much less pingable. How long do these batteries last when not being used, but also undocked and clearly alive?

--- UPDATE 1: 01/12/2020 ---

Hi Everyone,

This post blew up in ways I wasn't expecting, and I thank everyone for their interest in suggestions for where to look. I'd like to supply an answer to some frequently suggested concepts:

The Vehicle

The moment I found out I could ping the device with arp-ping (seen here: https://imgur.com/SJVENPl) as the switch blocks the ping protocol, I jumped into my vehicle and drove it a couple blocks away, and continued to run arp-ping continuously while doing so. When I got home, i kept the arp-ping going for quite a while, just to be sure. The signal never went away, and never got any weaker. I was genuinely hoping it'd be in the vehicle, would have been such an easy win

My kid is hoarding / hiding it

I'm sure this is a pretty valid theory in most situations. But my kid is 7, and one of her favorite things to do is collaborate on our island. I've caught her having nightmares in the middle of the night about having lost it, and she feels genuinely awful about it. But as far as her memory serves her, she ran from the vehicle, kicked off her shoes, and ran to the living room. To get really specific it's because she had a tent setup earlier in the day that she wanted to "camp in" once we got home and was ultra excited about it, so she rushed. She has no idea where she could have placed

Replace Ubiquiti network with OpenWRT - feasible?

Hello everyone and a happy new year,

some of you might know that Ubiquiti retires their older acces point devices early this year, which leaves our community centre in a peculiar position.

Either retire all devices and buy a pack of new access points for each floor (which we can't quite afford financially after last year's troubles) or just not update the controller software anymore and live with potential issues, which is also a bad option.

I'm working on the proposition for a third way: To sell the hardware and replace it with an OpenWRT network.

We have a box of older consumer routers from Asus and TP-Link that are compatible with OpenWRT, I've confirmed this as a first step.

Before I start flashing all routers and spending a lot of time on the potential transition, would it even be feasible to replace a Ubiquiti network this way?

Network doesn't do a whole lot:

  • Receive WAN from an ISP Business Router
  • Gateway Router manages clients and devices (rather badly), shares internet and connects clients to NASs
  • Guests and personnel have their own Wifi-networks
  • DHCP-Server manages wireless devices
  • Access points broadcast different set of networks on five floors

Is OpenWRT able to accomplish all these tasks?

Will there be a central point of management, like the Unifi controller interface, or would I have to tediously manage clients on all routers separately?

What technologies would I have to look into? batman? 802.11r?

This is probably highly device-dependent, but what performance can be expected? I'm more concerned with the ethernet router and not so much with Wifi.

Thanks in advance for any explanations/suggestions from all of us! :)

All linux computers unable to connect to wifi?

#so this is embarrasing, unplugged and replugged the router and voila! ##thanks for your help everyone!

I am not looking for a specific answer, rather I am looking for a general reason as to why both would stop working all of a sudden

INFO :

Distro: Peppermint OS (first laptop) & Deepin OS (second laptop)

I have using Linux on both of my laptops for the better part of the year with no issues wifi at all.

One laptop is my main second is for a Plex Server.

I was using my laptops as normal yesterday and even this morning. All of a sudden I was unable to connect to wifi on either of them.

So earlier today I posted about my laptop not being able to connect to Wi-Fi I thought that it was unique to that laptop but I just booted up my second laptop which also has Linux on it and it is also unable to connect to Wi-Fi.

I feel like this is most likely a problem with the router or something not 100% sure .

Please help ASAP this is very important, thank you in advance

Phone Buying Guide for Pokemon Go (2020)

tl;dr: The best value mid-range phones in 2020 are as follows. Retail prices noted in local currency.

Introduction

With the 2020 holiday shopping season about to head into its peak and the big Go Beyond update coming to Pokemon Go, I thought it might be a good idea to share what I've learned from phone shopping this year. Additionally, the latest 0.193 update officially ends support for iOS 11 and Android 5, so there may be people looking for replacement phones.

This post was inspired by a couple of great submissions made in 2017 and 2018. I am not the original author of those posts, nor am I particularly well-versed on the latest tech, but I'll try my best here. Also, full disclosure: I have not played around with any of these devices, and everything discussed here comes from viewing phone specs, "professional" review articles/videos, and my own personal interpretations.

Here's how the post is organized:

  • tl;dr (too long; didn't read) - up at the top
  • Introduction - you're here
  • Considerations for Playing Pokemon Go - I describe the main metrics I'll use to compare phones and give an example based on personal experience
  • Phone Makers & Highlighted Models - The bulk of the post, where I talk about phone brands and point out notable models, usually a high-end flagship and a mid-tier option.
  • Conclusions - closing thoughts
  • Glossary - A few phone tech terms that might be helpful to readers

All prices listed in this post are the base model starting retail prices in the indicated currency, usually U.S. Dollar (USD), sometimes Pound Sterling (GBP) or Euro (EUR), as viewed from someone in the U.S. (included links might not always work outside the U.S.). Many phones will likely go on sale over the next few days/weeks, so keep that in mind

Hi guys

In practice, when I play using wine or proton (I don't know if it's the same thing with native games because I haven't tried it) some glitches occur on a graphic level, more or less serious depending on the game. They appear and disappear quickly, I attach a photo of the problem in question.

I don't think it is a wine related problem but I could be wrong

Did new firmware break Onyko Controller App/Local API Integrations?

Initially, Spotify Net play seemed to break all of a sudden, so I updated my firmware. Voila, I could play spotify again via net play by choosing my receiver as the output on my spotify mobile app or spotify home assistant user interface. In other words, it seems external Spotify servers were able to interact with my receiver as expected for net play.

However, since updating I noticed that my Home Assistant Onkyo integration integration stopped working. I then tried the Onkyo Controller App, and my receiver is no longer showing up in the app, however my onkyo wireless speaker still shows up in app. I have a static IP assigned to my receiver, and when I try to point my Onkyo controller app to that IP address, it does not find an Onkyo receiver.

Did something change in the recent firmware update to break local network control of the Onkyo receiver? Is anyone else having this problem?

Firmware version: 1131-7020-3070-0011 Model: TX NR-676

Stable update 3.1.2.3

What is up Depthians!

For those that have not checked out the beta test branch post for 3.1.2, a few things need explaining when it comes to the connection rules.
If you have been on our beta test branch then skip the following as its a total copypasta job xD and check out the changelog for any new additions/changes/fixes.

We listened to the feedback from 3.1.0 and put in this feature to help people build more freely.
This allows more freedom than ever before to plan out a build with a rough blueprint of disconnected pieces and then connect it all later. Pressing backspace in build mode de-activates the connection checks. You can then place anything literally anywhere. The connection checks will re-activate if you have been out of build mode for 30 seconds, or if a block is killed by hostile fire. You can save the vehicle with connection checks de-activated so that you can continue your disconnected building over several play sessions or save points.

The change also makes it so that the first disconnection check when a vehicle is loaded will not make blocks fall off but will simply mark them with a warning so that the player can enter build mode, disable connectivity checks, and fix the issues so that the parts never fall out. That change has been made so that we can be a bit more liberal with tidying up the connection logic of some blocks but not create a nightmare situation where the vehicle is loaded and then immediately just falls apart. Note carefully that many of the changes in the change list are for removing the connection surfaces of blocks so that in 3.1.1 some unlucky people are going to have a few designs that need to use this feature to save a few blocks from falling off.

We have also changed the way munition/laser warners and signal jammers work. They no longer need to be connected to the AI and the reason for this is that none of those parts made any usage of the AI mainframe as the munition warning manager and laser warning manager is specific to the vehicle, not an AI mainframe, so they have no reason to be coupled to an AI mainframe any more.
This allows player controlled vehicles without AI to make proper use of all countermeasures ( flare dispensers, interceptors and smoke, etc)".

I thought I should leave some basic instructions / demonstration in regards to the connection check, how to turn on off and what you should keep an eye on.

When you load up the designer mode, by default the connection check and r

Welcome to Rocket League, lets get started! (a comprehensive guide)

#Welcome to Rocket League

I want to welcome all new players to the world of Rocket League, a fast paced and physics based car soccer game that is super fun to play at any skill level.

To help you get started Iโ€™ve created a comprehensive guide to all things Rocket League. Iโ€™ll be going through everything you need from your first goal to becoming the highest rank in this game: Supersonic Legend.

The first step weโ€™ll take is going through the games interface and explaining the basics of the game. Please take note that the latest update was just released and some things might be slightly different or net yet updated on any of the links I added.

^^For ^^returning ^^players: ^^A ^^quick ^^link ^^to ^^a ^^good ^^post ^^about ^^Epicgames ^^account ^^linking ^^and ^^trouble ^^shooting.

#Menu and Options

Main menu << See image

  1. This is the main menu, weโ€™ll focus on Garage, Inventory, Play, Training and Options.
  2. Your banner, Avatar, Avatar border, [TEAM TAG], Profile name, XP level and XP progress bar.
  3. Rocket League news ticker with the latest news
  4. Rocket League Friends List and your RocketID [(watch this explanation)] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_m35zFlZyU4) *^^slightly ^^outdated

Garage

One of the first things youโ€™ll want to do is choose a car body and make it your own. You can do this in the Garage menu. There are a lot of ways for you to customize your car in Rocket League, there are different bodies, wheels, decals, boost, toppers, trails, antennas and more for you to create your own unique car setup. You can customize,manage and save your presets so you can quickly switch between them.

Choosing your first car body will probably be based on visual preference first, whichever one you think is the coolest looking car. When you get the hang of the basic controls youโ€™ll want to try out other car bodies because they all feel a bit different. There are visual differences in car bodies but there are also 6 different hit boxes where the handling, height and length of the car is different. Youโ€™ll find that the difference between the Breakout and the Octane is much bigger than the differenc

X200 Ethernet won't grab IP on new install

I've had OpenBSD on this laptop before, but it was much older (5.x, blew out the install with a new one). Noticed the ethernet wasn't working during install, so I grabbed a usb adapter and continued the install thinking maybe it was something that had to be loaded after install. Now I'm scratching my head as to what to do.

Why did this cause a broadcast storm (presumably)?

Juniper shop. Two buildings, connected by primarily dark fiber and wireless point-to-point (PTP) backup. Switch ports connected to PTP access points are normally disabled when dark fiber is operational. Dark fiber went down so we enabled PTP ports. Dark fiber came back before we were ready and this essentially brought our network to its knees for a few minutes. Logs show that storm control was in effect on the PTP port on Switch1. I believe the broadcast storm then caused OSPF to be unable to reach neighbors and caused a failover.

I realize this isn't an ideal design for several reasons, but mainly just trying to understand what happened here. My guess is that the difference in link speed made it so the PTP link couldn't keep up with all of the broadcasts, but I never saw storm control in effect on the other switches (though I could have missed it). Ideally we would just have the Juniper switch monitor the dark fiber interfaces and automatically bring up the PTP ports when fiber was down, but this requires additional licensing on these models.

Diagram

Edit: All layer 3 is done at the core, each uplink between switches has a handful of vlans trunked. STP is configured, core is the root bridge.

Dinner was a fairly laid back affair, although you wouldn't have known that from the Elven Space Disney Princess dresses that Sisme and Anneke were wearing. So much fluff. And I really was starting to wonder at the elven sense of color vision. How did anyone think that chartreuse went with orange and purple and peach? I noticed that Anneke's dress was at least in vaguely tasteful colors.

"Enjoying playing dress up, Anneke?"

"I mean, it's not like I get to wear stuff like this back in Berlin."

"You could! Maybe you'd set a new fashion trend! I dunno if the Germans would go for it, but I bet there's a whole subculture of Japanese teenagers just waiting for Ringworld Elf Surrealism. Elven Gothic Lolita? No, there's definitely not enough black involved for the 'gothic' title. Though if you went that way, you might get the Germans on board."

"Lolita, hunh?" She batted her eyelashes at me and grinned.

"You know, I really need to start thinking before my mouth goes on autopilot. No. No, no, no. And I didn't name it, and I have no idea why the Japanese kids who invented it came up with that term. But this is not a Nabokov novel. This is not going to be a Nabokov novel. Though now that I'm thinking about it further, I'm glad this conversation went that direction because any flagging resolve there might have been has just been shored up by the prospect of potentially being that creepy."

"Damnit. So if you don't care for elven fashion, what do you like?"

"I'm not answering that on the grounds that it can only result in further torment on my part. No, wait, I take that back. I hear that shapeless potato sack dresses are quite popular this time of year. Something extremely loose. Coarse, thick, highly opaque fabrics. Lots of extra padding sewn in

Finally brought my parents into the modern age of the internet after their ISP finally decided to shut off their dial up pool... and then everything broke...

So I've spent the last two days helping get mom and dads network setup at the house. They are too far out for DSL, in the shadow of a hill so they can't get wireless to the house, AND don't have a clear sourthern exposure to get satellite. However, they do have a garage that's 200 yards up the hill from the house and has sight line to one of the fixed providers in the area. I order up a complete unifi setup (USG, USW-8 POE, a UBB, and a USW-8-150 for the house, as well as two APs) and we're off to the races.

Distances for those interested https://i.imgur.com/XUSUe6k.png

Purchases for those who care https://i.imgur.com/haAXbu2.png

So, we build EVERYTHING in a micro setup in his living room. I hook up to one of my cell modems so we have WAN - get the bridges set up at the house, get everything adopted into the controller - everything works flawlessly. Great!

We install the bridges, the wireless, and the router (in a hilarious location above dads garage door)

https://i.imgur.com/ax79HCL.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/Qto3czc.jpg

and test again - everything works flawlessly in testing with the cell connection (which just got turned into a backup WAN interface) across the bridge.

Install the fixed wireless equipment.... https://i.imgur.com/1EsHokR.jpg setup of the fixed wireless and speed test, 40/50 - yeah that's better than the 56k they were on... https://i.imgur.com/TUtuCWO.jpg speed test

And we're off to the races! I leave happy that everything is up and going...

Dad calls me 11/20 and says that he lost network back at the house. Odd. I can go into the switches through the Unifi UI, I can ping both sides of the bridge, but I can't ping beyond the bridge. Remove and readopt everything, still can't get beyond the bridge. Turns out that the run for the bridge at the house had pair 2 fail sometime, which provided PoE, but no ethernet. Fixed that today. Everything WORKS... then I decided I needed to set up the VPN...

The VPN will NOT come up - run a whole bunch of troubleshooting trying to figure out why I can't get past my first hop into his environment... odd I can ping the frontside of the "VPNS" interface- turns out that I shouldn't be able to hit internal ISP services from my home equipment...

So that's where we are right now... Sorry for the wall of text...

TLDR: I dropped about a grand on a Unifi setup to bring mom and dad into the modern era and it's still a work in progress...

At my wits end with WiFi

I wanted to play around with kali on a spare laptop I had lying around so I installed 2020.4 but I'm having the worst time getting wireless to work.

I've verified that my wireless cards drivers are installed and recognized via lspci -k

When I look at my interface in ip link it shows down

link/ether ee:fb:0f:54:2d:d7 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff permaddr 28:39:26:43:db:19

if I run "sudo ip link set wlan0 up" the interface still shows down, so obviously if I run iw wlan0 scan I get nothing.

I've run out of ideas short of reinstalling the OS as to what is causing my wireless NIC to not show online. Any suggestions?

Kernel version 5.9.16_1

My DE is Plasma 5, and I'm doing network config stuff through it, which uses NetworkManager.

The adapter can scan for networks, but whenever I attempt to connect to any network, it says "Configuring interface" for a while and then "The WiFi network could not be found."

This card should use the broadcom-wl driver, and I've installed the broadcom-wl-dkms package from void-packages (I'm pretty sure I installed it with the patch for 5.9, but I'm not familiar with xbps-src at all).

As far as I can tell, the wl driver is being loaded.

There's a bunch of different cfg80211 files on my machine, and it seems to be part of wl

Any way for me to figure out what is keeping it from loading firmware?

Thank you in advance for any help.

UPDATED OCT 2020 - Step by Step to Play Wireless PCVR on Quest / Quest 2 with ShadowPC

I updated my original guide to using a cloud computer to play PCVR wirelessly on quest due to great continued updates to Virtual Desktop and Shadow PC. Hope this helps someone out there.

Preliminary FAQ:

A) Do I need a gaming PC for this? No, any computer that will run the ShadowPC client is sufficient. Preliminary reports are that Shadow also works on the new Chromecast with Google TV - get a USB C Ethernet adapter. Shadow also has iOS and Android clients but latency will be higher due to not having direct Ethernet connection.

B) Is there anything you won't cover? Yes. How to get SideQuest working on your device. There are SO many tutorials on that. Please use this: https://sidequestvr.com/#/setup-howto

C) Do I need to use a cable to play while I am playing PCVR? No, this is for playing wirelessly. You don't need the link cable or a knock off. You only need a regular USB cable that is sufficient to set up Sidequest and transfer data on Sidequest for your host machine for one patch that is necessary for Virtual Desktop.

D) This seems like a lot of steps is it really that hard? No, its actually pretty easy but I made this guide for people like me who like each step laid out rather than having to compile a bunch of pieces from different sources. It will probably take you an hour to purchase and download everything and have it all set up, ready to play.

E)I went to ShadowPCโ€™s website and only gives the option to pre-order or says it wonโ€™t be for weeks or months till it starts? Yes. Start up time will vary. Donโ€™t use a workaround even if you can, because you probably wonโ€™t have an optimal experience. Just wait the designated time. โ€œBoostโ€ tier works fine. Buy extra storage if it is available when you order.

F) IMPORTANT: If you have Comcast Xfinity there is an issue with Comcast erroneously identifying the Virtual Desktop/Shadow connection as a malicious attempt to use your network. Go to the XFi app, choose โ€œmoreโ€ then choose โ€œmy servicesโ€ and disable Advanced Security.

Instructions:

  1. Make sure you have a dual band 5ghz or WiFi 6 router; plug just the device you will use to run Shadow into it via Ethernet cable.

  2. Test your internet here on your device plugged into Ethernet: https://help.shadow.tech/hc/en-gb/articles/360011196119-How-to-Test-Your-Connection-to-Shadow

  3. If internet test looks good, sign up for ShadowPC. You are probably looking for sub 25 ping and low jitter, though some folks are OK with higher.

Wireless Network Unclaimed?

Hi All, Linux noob here. I recently installed PopOS on my Teclast F6 plus and cannot get the system to recognize my wireless card (Intel 3165). I have tried many fixes for similar issues I found on the Net but nothing works. Network Settings does not give me the option to add a wireless network, only wired and VPN. Based on my research I suspect the problem is a missing driver, but the 3165 is a common card and the driver should be included in the installation. In fact:

Here is some more output:

New Wireless Guest Network not assigning IP addresses

I am a new UDMP user and have been setting things up. I'm going to have 3 networks: LAN, IoT (VLAN 2), and Guest (VLAN 3).

I'm using my Galaxy Note 9 as my test device.

As of right now, the main wireless network, and the IoT network is working properly. I can connect to them, and am given an IP address.

When I try to connect to my Guest network, it tries and tries and eventually errors out saying it is unable to obtain an IP address.

Network Settings:

Name: Guest

Purpose: Guest

Interface: LAN

VLAN: 3

Gateway IP/Subnet: 192.168.3.1/24

Gateway IP: 192.168.3.1

Network Broadcsast IP: 192.168.3.255

Network IP Count: 254

Network IP Range: 192.168.3.1 - 192.168.3.254

Domain Name: Blank

IGMP Snooping: Unchecked

DHCP Mode: DHCP Server

DHCP Range: 192.168.3.6 - 192.168.3.254

DHCP Name Server: Auto

DHCP Lease Time: 86400

DHCP Gateway IP: Auto

DHCP Unifi Controller: Blank

DHCP Guarding: Unchecked

Wireless Network Settings:

Name: Guest

Enabled: Checked

Security: WPA Personal

Security Key: XXXXXXXXXX

Guest Policy: Apply guest policies Checked

Network: Guest

The only differences I see between my IoT network (which works) and my Guest network, is the IoT is configured as Corporate, is VLAN 2, and is on 192.168.2.1/24. Also, Guest policies are applied to the Guest network, and not the IoT. No special firewall rules have been configured yet.

Anyone have any ideas what the issue might be?

Some questions about hacking

I've got a PC playing a full AI in an Omen, and he's heavily focused on hacking; hacker focus, core routines, Int and Program bonuses, the works. So I'm going through the hacking system rules to learn how to implement the rules into the game. Got a few questions:

  1. Hacking requires some sort of connection to the network, via a tapped data line or plugging into a connected terminal. My question is: does it matter exactly what is connected to the network? A compad, a dataslab, a storage drive with the loaded code, or a remote/tightbeam link unit connected to a remote computer are my guesses, but that leads me to my second question.
  2. Routines like Hack Control and Will of the Machine aside, how capable is an AI in a basic armature at interfacing with a computer? Do they need the aforementioned hardware (optionally built into their armature) or can they stick their finger into the terminal and let their core do the rest? Better yet, can they just think at a wireless device and execute their hack? I know an AI without any fancy hardware is essentially on-par with a human brain, but does their synthetic nature allow for any special abilities like storing data, linking to wireless devices or otherwise 'plugging into' a computer?
  3. Line shunts. I know what they're for, I just don't know how they assist with the hack once they're in place. With up to three shunts stuck to various walls in a facility and a hacker holed up in a supply closet, I don't understand how they help carry out the hack. Presumably they're connected to the hacker's hardware in some capacity; are they receiving wireless broadcasts from the hacker (risky considering the remote link is detectable), are they wired up to a hacker hiding in a nearby bush, or is this connection just handwaved as "they're in place, doesn't matter"?

Any help with these questions would be greatly appreciated, since the player in question already seems to be having a lot of fun hacking into the ship's coffee machine and will almost certainly not stop there.

A definitive Tesla Model 3 review after two years of ownership and a cross-country road trip

Tesla Model 3 LR AWD and Cross Country Road Trip (2800+ miles, 12 states, 30 Superchargers)

After completing a cross-country road trip in my two-year old Tesla Model 3, I fell in love with it all over again and knew I had to write a post about it.

In my opinion, Tesla hasnโ€™t just revolutionized the electrical vehicle (EV) industry, it has reinvented the car, as I will show you in this (highly biased) post.

Whether youโ€™re in the market for a Tesla, are an existing owner or are simply curious about EVs, I hope youโ€™ll get some value from this post.

Youโ€™ll see why comparing a Tesla to most cars today is like comparing a smartphone to a flip phone โ€” itโ€™s really that big of a difference.

If you donโ€™t know much about how EVs work, I highly recommend watching this popular 10-minute YouTube video titled How does an Electric Car work? โ€” itโ€™s a bit technical but overall worth a one-time watch to understand why EVs are the future. Itโ€™s no surprise the EV market is expected to reach over $800 billion by 2027!

In this post, weโ€™ll take a tour of the following aspects of a Tesla Model 3:

  1. App
  2. Exterior
  3. Interior
  4. Driving
  5. Charging
  6. Safety
  7. Maintenance
  8. Community
  9. Cost
  10. Improvements

Here we go.

1. App

Before describing the car itself, I want to begin with one of the most convenient aspects of owning a Tesla: the Tesla mobile app. This serves as your primary car key and provides many remote control features.

The mobile app automatically unlocks and locks the Tesla 3 doors using bluetooth โ€” this short-distance, keyless access is extremely convenient because itโ€™s hands-free (e.g. phone in pocket) and eliminates having to carry a physical car key.

Tesla does provide key FOBs but in the two years of owning my car, Iโ€™ve only used them for valet parking or as a backup in my wallet, in case my phone dies.

Tesla Mobile App

The Tesla mobile app complements the interior touchscreen by giving you many contr

Denon HEOS streaming music on same LAN stopped working

Hi guys, sorry for the inconvenience, I am just trying to figure out my network problem.

So here is my situation for starters:

I have an USG3, a Unifi 24PoE switch and an UAP-AC-Lite. I have everything setup nice and neatly with a few rules for my IoT netwrok and so on. Now after getting a new Denon AVR (AVR-2700X) and a few HEOS 1 speakers, I tried to set them up and integrate them in my network. I failed in doing so at first, succeded on the second try a few weeks agi. What I did was following the guid on this post.

In there it is described, that i need to enable IGMP Proxy. So I enabled it by pitting the correct config.gateway.json file on my controller and enabling it via ssh on my USG3.

Here is what I put into my config.gateway.json:

{
"protocols": {
    "igmp-proxy": {
        "interface": {
            "eth0": {
                "alt-subnet": [
                    "0.0.0.0/0"
                ],
                "role": "upstream",
                "threshold": "1"
            },
            "eth1": {
                "alt-subnet": [
                    "0.0.0.0/0"
                ],
                "role": "downstream",
                "threshold": "1"
            }
        }
    }
}

}

My ssh commands on the USG3 were (according to these guidelines:

configure

set protocols igmp-proxy interface eth0 role upstream set protocols igmp-proxy interface eth1 role downstream set protocols igmp-proxy interface eth0 threshold 1 set protocols igmp-proxy interface eth0 alt-subnet 0.0.0.0/0 set protocols igmp-proxy interface eth1 threshold 1 set protocols igmp-proxy interface eth1 alt-subnet 0.0.0.0/0 commit;save;exit

The results of show ip multicast mfc and show ip multicast interfaces were not given as in "there was no response to them" on the console and therefore couldn't provide any additional information which didn't help at all.

My WAN interface connecting thour PPoE is running on eth0, my LAN is on eth1. From there the connection goes straight into the US24 switch and provides connection to every device connected as well as to the AP-AC-Lite. I have a corporate LAN running on 192.168.67.0/24 and a wireless network reflecting the same.

In my c

Muscle interface for MIDI - naturally, playing cover for CP77 trailer theme

A few years after Cyberpunk 2077 was announced, I started working on an open source prosthetic arm project in a small group of volunteers (Ukraine, revolution, war, all of that stuff - so this project choice for a fan of cyberpunk genre was quite obvious). And while on mechanical side we hadn't accomplished anything noteworthy, we made quite a progress on the muscle control. With game release getting closer, it motivated us to get everything together - a wearable EMG interface, neural networks, and MIDI.

So this is the main theme played by me using gesture control via a 4-channel, wireless wearable muscle interface: https://youtu.be/gc9wzC0E7v8

I actually hope that there will be something inside the game that we can control in this unconventional way. I always wanted to control signs in Witcher like this - but our technology wasn't really there until now. So now we wait for CP2077 launch to try to apply this interface there :)

_All right crew!

The Chrome OS Stable Channel got promoted to milestone today - from 84.0.4147.136 to 85.0.4183.84. As with every new milestone update, this brings massive new changes to the table, offering several new features, bug fixes, and security enhancements to better improve your Chrome OS user experience. Due to the sheer size, I may be missing a few things here and there. Here is what changed!

Like my content and want to buy me a coffee? You can support me on ko-fi using this link or by using the link in my Reddit profile. If you want to be kept up to date with everything new to Chrome OS, feel free to give me a follow. Thanks in advance for your support!! :)

Accessibility

  • Color cursors: New accessibility feature flag to change cursor colors in Chrome OS. This feature has 5 colors for now: Red, Orange, Green, Blue, and Purple. Custom cursor colors are important for visibility to some users with vision impairment (e.g. color blindness).

    • This experimental feature is still in development. To try it out, you'll need to enable a Chrome flag. Copy-paste the following URL and change the dropdown from "Default" to "Enable": chrome://flags/#enable-experimental-accessibility-cursor-colors

Party like the 90's!

Ambient lock screen

This experimental feature is still in development. To try it out, you'll need to enable a Chrome flag. Copy-paste the following URL and change the dropdown from "Default" to "Enable": chrome://flags/#enable-ambient-mode
  • Slideshow: new subpage that allows users to customize which album or category they want the Ambient slideshow to pick from. For example, you can customize the Ambient lock screen to show a particular family album on Google Photos, or a specific category of backgrounds curated by Google.

New subpage to allow you to customize the Ambient lockscreen

  • Behavior: Ambient lock screen will keep the screen on only when the charger is plugged in.
  • Behavior: Pressing any key on the keyboard will take you from the Ambient slideshow to the password page.

Raspberry Pi Streaming: My Guide to what it is, why you want one, how to do it, and what you need

DISCLAIMER: This is not a debate location for lossy vs lossless codecs. If you like lossy and it sounds good to you, then perfect. I am of the opinion however that you should be able to playback your own lossless audio, well, losslessly. I am not saying that lossless is superior, nor that it is equal.

DISCLAIMER 2: I may be more tech-savvy than your average human, but I am not a tech guy. I can't code, I don't make edits to the software, and I don't know every detail of everything. It is because of this I am making a guide to help others like myself who are scared of the RPi and think you need to be a computer whiz to get it running.

DISCLAIMER 3: This post is very long and detailed. I'm not making a TL;DR because it would kind of defeat the point of a walkthrough.

This post is not aimed at any particular post or comment, but I think a lot of us here tend to get tired of discussing the potential issues with Bluetooth streaming and explaining what else is available for the audiophile who wants convenience. Because of this, I wanted to walk everyone through the following. All of these points are numbered in the post so feel free to skip to 2 if you don't need to be convinced.

  1. Why you may want to consider making a streamer with an RPi
  2. Some places to look to get you started
  3. What you will need
  4. Super-high level set up guide (only because each OS is different and I can't provide info on all)

1. So why should you use or make a streamer? To answer this, here are some questions you should ask yourself

  • Do you own any lossless digital music personally?
  • Do you wish you could play that music from your listening chair while your computer is in the other room?
  • Do you not like long USB cable runs?
  • Do you want to switch from lossy Bluetooth streaming but enjoy the convenience?
  • Do you want to buy a network streamer but are wary of price/size/proprietary software?

If you answered yes to any of these I think you could potentially benefit from a Raspberry Pi streamer. While Bluetooth 5.0 is very good, and potentially beyond the level of compression that humans can hear, it is still inferior to the quality you can receive from the FLAC/WAV/DSD files you already own or can stream losslessly via Qobuz, Tidal, etc. "But I like listening to Spotify to

Only one user gets internet on Capsman

Hi everyone! Let me start by saying that I'm quite new to this so probably this is a very numb question.

I've been trying to learn how to use a Mikrotik routerboard to setup a WiFi network using Capsman on two accesspoints. I've been quite successful so far: I can see the WiFi SSID, connect to it and have internet connection.

However, while one device gets full internet speed, if I connect a second device (or more) it doesn't get internet connection at all (I can't even ping Google). Any idea of what could be the reason?

I tried adding a queue over all IPs but that didn't solve the problem.

EDIT: Adding full configuration

The two access points are a RB912UAG-2HPnD and RB SXT G-2HnD r2
