Major sale Williams Sonoma

All of the Williams-Sonoma brand Nespresso-compatible capsules are $4.99 (normally $7.95) right now, both in store and online. Has anyone tried them and liked them? Flavors that are particularly good or bad? I bought a few sleeves, so far just tried the decaf and it was nice.

Apparently the capsules can be taken apart and rinsed and then placed in your regular recycle bin. That’s what it says on the box anyway. They are aluminum, not plastic capsules.

I’m in the US and I think this is just a US company but I’m not sure.

Best use of a William Sonoma gift gard?

I’ve been sitting on a William Sonoma gift card for the past few months that was part of a Christmas gift and I have not had any kitchen tool come to mind. I already have a good set of knives, cast iron pans, and most essential cookware. I haven’t encountered a dish I couldn’t make with my current set of tools so I really am at a loss. I need to spend it soon because I have to be able to tell my girlfriends mother what I bought so she does t feel like it was a bad gift.

Things I’ve been thinking of buying:

  • wet stone: I have a manual knife sharpener that does about as well as you’d expect from a 20 dollar tool, it I really appreciate an extremely sharp knife and being able to get them to professional levels would be nice.

  • crem brΓ»lΓ©e torch: I feel like I would use it more for savory applications like burning herbs, searing meat and general browning more than actual crem brΓ»lΓ©e.

  • smoking gun: I love smoky flavor but can’t use a full smoker in my apartment. Wondering if a smoking gun is worth the money.

Boycott West Elm/ Williams Sonoma/ Rejuvenation/ Pottery Barn

As the proud owner of half a couch from West Elm (other half lost, TBD... definitely not in my home, not that I haven’t been asked) that β€œshould” arrive nearly one calendar year following its order date, my greatest grievance is actually with Rejuvenation. As they’re all the same company though, I must impress upon everyone to never, ever, ever order their furniture. It may look exactly how you want. You may even be impressed with the β€œgreen” construction and/ or MCM vibes. But if you actually want furniture in your home, and if you prefer to not spend 20+ hours on the phone, or 3+ workdays waiting at home for deliveries to arrive, not arrive, or be damaged, DO NOT order any of their furniture.

I have evidence to suggest that Rejuvenation is actually functionally incapable of getting the item I ordered- a vanity- to my home. I have had four deliveries scheduled (always 2+ weeks out from the phone call), then cancelled or just straight no show-ed, only to inevitably discover the furniture was actually β€œon hold” for two months half the country away. I had everyone on the phone. I found the LinkedIn for the floor manager of the Columbus warehouse. I asked them to put the vanity on the truck while I listened (they didn’t accommodate that, but I got assurances it occurred).

I have two complaints open with the BBB. Stuart, bless his heart, has the courtesy to seem aghast, when I pester him enough to call me back, when he learns I still don’t have the item. β€œBut I got the trailer number!” He assured me. I called north Georgia. I was told the item never made it. They needed to do a dock search.

I gave up, obviously. 4 cancelled deliveries. Honestly, 80+ phone calls to customer service, β€œescalated” customer service, β€œescalated’s” manager, the distribution hubs in Columbus Ohio and North Georgia. (I have their numbers, if you need them). Oh, and the LinkedIn profile info for Luke Wyatt, lacrosse alum and optimistic hire.

It’s not isolated. Having recently bought a home and remodeling, I’ve endured the vanity-that-cannot-be; a vanity from west elm that got lost, marble lost, replaced, months delayed; and the infamous half of a couch. I imagine the dock guys for these companies outfit their homes very well. And I imagine security cameras must not exist? Nor tracking technology, basic excel software, maybe even internet?

I’ve been told my order number is wrong, my item is in my state, my item is in Ohio, my item needs to be replaced, my item is in transit,

Retailers exiting Briarwood Mall (H&M, Williams-Sonoma)

Some news from Mlive about a couple more retailers leaving Briarwood. Though I'm not really surprised or upset about either of these closures. I do wonder about the future of the mall and maybe more importantly, the land it sits on.

For me the end of that mall is not a matter of if but when. The departure of H&M does seem sort of significant though. If a retailer like that can't make brick and mortar work in a college town, I can't imagine Briarwood has much time left. Maybe H&M would attempt a new B+M downtown somewhere?

I guess I'm just hoping to generate some discussion on the future of the mall and wishes about what happens to the structure/land. Or am I totally wrong and Briarwood will see new life?

Williams Sonoma Chef Knives, which should I buy?

Long time lurker, first time caller...

I was given a Williams Sonoma gift card as a wedding present a while back that was lost but now is found. I don't really need much else for the kitchen and though it would be a good time to buy a quality chef's knife. I've always had Victorinox knives and have enjoyed them especially for their price. Being that I have a gift card to use at WS I'm obviously limited by my choices. I'm mostly between the Wusthof or Shun knives. I think the thickness of the Wustof would be great but Shun offering lifetime sharpening sounds amazing. I've heard good and bad things about both but wanted to reach out to the wisdom of Reddit before making my choice. Questionnaire below, thank you for your thyme!

  1. Style? - Unknown
  2. Steel? - Stainless
  3. Handle? - Hybrid
  4. Grip? - Pinch
  5. Length? - 8.5" / 240
  6. Uses? - meat / vegetables
  7. Care? - Honing / Paid Service
  8. Budget? - $100-200

Shipping delays Williams Sonoma

Just wanted to give a heads up. I ordered a new (my first) Staub Dutch oven from WS in January and they said it would deliver the end of February. About 3 weeks later I got an email saying it’s on backorder and will be delivered March 8-9. Today I just got another email saying that there have been delays in my shipment and delivery has been revised to March 22-23. I’m so disappointed. That’s 2 months from when I ordered and now I’m not even sure that it wont get changed again. Anyway, I just wanted to inform you guys in case you are ordering a new Staub that is not in stock. I’m in the US by the way.

Braiser vs. William Sonoma’s essential oven

Hi! I recently posted a question about Dutch ovens and I’m back! :) I have been researching the last few days trying to decide on 2 Le Creuset pieces to get. They will be my first nice pieces of cookware and I want to make sure I choose things that are versatile. For one of the pieces, I want a shallow-ish dish (just a little shallower/wider than something like a Dutch oven) and I think I’ve narrowed it down to either the braiser (not sure on size) or the 3.5 qt essential oven that I believe is exclusive to William Sonoma. I’m going to get a larger size Dutch oven than I was originally planning on, so I want the other piece to be something like the 2 I mentioned, but feel free to suggest other pieces that are similar if you think they are better. I do prefer the double handles on each side rather than one longer handle for bigger pieces like this though!

I am a mom to 2, trying for a 3rd so will likely be cooking for 5. Im 28 and I only began cooking once I was maybe 26 (hated it prior to that, but have always LOVED baking) so I’m really not making anything super fancy, simply because I don’t know how yet lol. We eat things like chicken, fish, baked pasta, casseroles, stir fry, and obviously some super easy kid stuff like Mac and cheese or quesadillas :) Thanks!!

Williams Sonoma and why I'm going long on your mom - $WSM

Williams-Sonoma or $WSM. That's right. Your mom loves this place. Your wife loves this place. Her gay BFF loves this place. Fuck it, as a home cook stuck inside all fucking year, I love this place. And they print money.

Originally this post was going to be a "Rich Wine Aunt ETF" list to follow in the same vein as the $BECKY ETF one of you posted but I couldn't think of many tickers aside from $WSM and maybe $RH or restoration hardware (which is also worth looking at).

Highlights:

  • P/E just shy of 19
  • positive EPS growth over the past 5 years
  • owns pottery barn which is doing so well Amazon ripped off their furniture design and lost a lawsuit over it
  • pivoted hard to online sales and are doing fantastic on that front, over 75% of their sales this past summer were online. Unlike other brick and mortars, covid didn't slow $WSM down: https://www.marketwatch.com/story/williams-sonomas-online-sales-three-quarters-of-companys-q2-revenue-2020-08-26
  • Most analysts are positive
  • Q4 Earnings on March 17th (holiday $$$) - and they generally meet or beat expectations

This is like your mom's GainStop play except they've already pivoted online and things are going well. But I'm a trader as many of you are. My long term investments are usually bags because I fucked up the entry and had to wait weeks or months to sell (looking at you $INTC). And that's what I like about this play now - $WSM peaked to $150 a couple weeks ago and has since dipped again around $125. I'm no technical crayon expert, but it seems like a pretty good entry point here with earnings up ahead. IMO we'll likely run up again.

My positions/strat:

+5 May $120 Calls queued on open for tomorrow. Going to ride those up to earnings, and likely sell higher calls to hedge through earnings and continue long on your mom^^^'s ^^^favorite ^^^retailer through the summer.

$100 William Sonoma Gift Card

I have a $100 William Sonoma gift car I am struggling to use. Everything at that place is so expensive! I want to go on a little shopping spree and pick out 1-5 items, but I’m not sure what to buy :/

I know choosing item(s) is/are subjective, because I will there are certain items I’ll use more than others.

If you had $100 to spend at William Sonoma, what quality items would you buy for your kitchen?
