William Henry Harrison and the Pyramid (With Ryen Russillo) | Book of Basketball 2.0

Bill: So after Van Buren you have the Harrison thing.

RR: Yeah.

Bill: It seemed like you had more you wanted to say.

RR: Well it’s just.. I don’t really like getting into the inauguration thing because you don’t wanna bash a guy for - these 19th century dudes always do this thing where it’s like β€˜I don’t need the jacket’..

Bill: I just think if you played his presidency out 14 times, this is easily one of the worst outcomes. There’s a world where he gives this speech indoors and becomes a Mount Rushmore guy but his immune system just broke down.

RR: I was talking to some guys about this and the way it was told to me is that-

Bill: I’ve heard some stuff too. Is this about the doctor thing?

RR: I don’t want this to get aggregated or anything but I’ve just heard their medical staff at the time didn’t know what was going on. β€œOh, he has a cold? Let’s drain his blood and give him a bottle of whiskey!” Like what are we even doing here?

Bill: He does seem like a guy where if you put him in a modern system and just got him some DayQuil and a couple hand warmers, maybe he figures it out. I wanna go back to the speech. Half-assed internet research - longest inaugural address ever. If you wanna get into the whole analytics thing, it was 8,445 words.

RR: Are we gonna talk about the campaign stuff with the log cabin imagery and the hard cider? To me that’s really h-

Bill: Save that, we’re going to get to it later. I wanna talk about the campaign song. You have the whole β€œTippecanoe and Tyler too” thing, and I think it just caught on. This is when newspapers were really starting to take off and people kinda just did the eye test on Van Buren and it was hard to make a case for him.

Question:

Not sure if this was discussed here recently, but do you think that if he survived, would Harrison actually be decent president, or would he be yet another forgettable president between Jackson and Lincoln ( except for Polk, of course ) ? Starting Again - William Henry Harrison's Birthday

February 9, 1773 – William Henry Harrison, the 9th President of the United States is born. February 9, 2021 seems like a good day to start. This seems like a good day to begin the journey to change my life. I need to take it one day at a time, little by little, replacing my Fap with classical music, new age music, mindfulness exercises and reading enjoyable books. Anything I can do and enjoy which does not involve Fap.

Freedom is so important. When you Fap it is like being in prison within your own flesh. Lately, when I’ve struggled with Fap I have asked myself the question, β€œWhy do I truly want to be free of this?”

For me, it boiled down to charting my own course spiritually, mentally and emotionally. I do not want Fap to be in charge of my mind anymore.

How would of William Henry Harrison performed as president if he didn't die?

I am thinking about this for several days, what would of happened if Harrison didn't die? Well it is actually a big impact. Never knew someone's death can change so much. Remember this is for fun and just speculation and also a bit rushed because of a lot of work.

Speculation 1: John Tyler's precedent where the VIP becomes the chief executive after the current president dies will not become a reality until either 1865 or 1901

William Harrison's death caused Tyler to become president as he always insisted that he was the leader now in meetings. If Harrison lived without any health problems, then this precedent would have not been established until 1865 or 1901. Why these years? Taylor died in 1850 and Garfield in 1881 so why are those years not included? I will answer all these questions

In 1865 Andrew Johnson became president. We all know AJ as a very stubborn, ineffective president. I say he would of insisted that he was president as a new precedent. He always wanted a lot of political power as he was senator twice and even changed some of his views just of become Lincoln's VP. Johnson's act to become president would of been a lot harder however as congress didn't like him all that much, however congress was fine with Tyler, though they did question some of his political beliefs. As for 1901, Teddy became president after Mckinley's assassination. TR was involved in politics for a long time and did not resist being the VP for Mckinley. I always think that TR would do te same as Tyler and say that he is the president and constantly insists.

Speculation 2: William Harrison would of passed the Third National bank, help implement the American System by Henry Clay and destroy the Spoils System

Harrison in his inaugural address he stated that he would pass the bill that would create the Third National Bank and also would implement the American system. The american system contained three main goals to improve the economy:

  • A tariff to protect the american industry
  • federal subsidies for roads, canals and other internal improvements to help the market
  • a national bank to foster commerce

This would of been very effective and it would of probably had a similar effect as the Jay Treaty and that is dividing the two parties even more. It probably would of been weakened by future democratic presidents like Franklin Pierce or James Buchanan. Harrison destroying the Spoils System would of been a huge win as the Spoils System created a lot more corruption
