I am wondering this as someone who is considering starting The Eye of the World. It seems as if WoT has a strange place in fantasy. Whenever people bring up the best fantasy series of all time, it's in the discussion. It has a huge fandom, tons of authors site it as inspiration, and its one of the best selling book series ever.
Yet, when I've seen specific discussions about the books on here, people bring up tons of problems. Over-description, lagging through the middle, exposition dumps, too many characters, etc.
Why is this? Was the series simply ahead of its time but now it doesn't read as well? I'd just be curious to hear people's thoughts about it. Never seen a series be so loved yet also so criticized.
edit: also as a second question, why tf is this post getting awards? Jokes aside, I appreciate all the great responses. Regardless, I'm gonna download The Eye of the World on my kindle tonight. Only one way to find out if its for me.
Hey guys, look, I don't want to upset fans, so if you are a fan, this is all my personal experience. The Wheel of time is such a famous series that it's no surprise why I'm powering through it, even though I'm not enjoying it. I'm on book 9, right now, and I am just hoping that Brandon Sanderson will come along and change things. I'm so invested, I feel so bad when giving up on something, I did it sometimes, but this is different. So many people recommended it. And now I've already put a lot of hours and days into it.
The slow pace is not a problem. I love slow paced book, I love long series. But the characters are so unbearable. I have a huge problem with the protagonist, the biggest Gary Stu I've ever encountered, his problems are never real, you just never believe he is in any. It's laughable how at the end of books he just goes "ok, I'm hurt, weak, but I'm just going to kill this super villain who's way more experienced than me." Then he goes and kills them. I MEAN COME ON.

So I work for a large multi national tech company. I am in no way involved with this new product.
The company at the highest level recently released a new flagship product. Without ousting my company...think central server for an entire office that also prints, copies, scans, etc. More or less, they got rid of a paper tray and put a server in there instead. Revolutionary.
Anyways they are testing this new product in a remote office that I sometimes work in. One day my group is slacking off at lunch and one of the testers of this new flagship product comes over to tell us all about it and how we can put our software on this server in the machine.
This is the ensuing conversation between one of my engineers and this tester. E - engineer , T -tester.
T: so now instead of buying an Azure cloud environment they can buy this machine and host the software on prem and have everything centralized in one location.
E: does the machine have wheels
T: of course, how else are you supposed to... keep reading on reddit ➡
There are tons of rock solid emotes I'd love to use, but I only get four at a time. An emote wheel, that lets us choose eight, would be a great addition.
Edit: RIP my inbox! Also, thanks for the Gold! I know who you are, but I'm not sure if it's allowed to "call out" the person.
If you tuned into Wheel of Fortune earlier this week (on Wednesday, April 8), then you saw my unprecedented "near perfect game" performance, including achieving the third-highest pre-bonus-round score of all time ($71,890) and reaching six figures "the hard way" by walking away with a new BMW in the bonus round (instead of a bigger pile of cash).
Happy to answer virtually any questions you might have -- I'm a pretty open book :)
I wrote this and thought that this may be a good place to share some insight onto the wheel strategy, which has gained popularity over the past few months. Enjoy!
For those who are delving into the world of options, you may have heard about a strategy called the Options Wheel. The wheel is a great strategy for generating semi-passive income with a lower risk than many other strategies. What really shines in the options wheel is the consistency and scalability which can both benefit small and large accounts alike.
When trading options, always remember that the market will always be a game of chance. No matter how much time you put into research, the market will always remain unpredictable, and therefore it is important to only start with what you are willing to lose. Make a wise financial decision, and do not put all of your investing money into the wheel.
Wow. What a fantastic ending.
First Things First, What Is A Synthetic Covered Call?
For those of you who don't know what a synthetic covered call is I will briefly explain using SPY as an example.
To execute a synthetic covered call (SCC) you buy a long-dated option, it works best with leaps in my experience, and sell an option with less DTE for a premium. If the stock price goes above your short call then you cover your position with your long call. If not you rinse and repeat. However, it is generally not profitable to let your short call expire in the money because the LEAP will have cost way more than the premium and differences between strikes. So we buy back the short call before it is in the money. Now you might think that since you had to buy back the short call for a loss that you lost money on this trade, but actually you'd be wrong. The spy LEAP we are long should have gained more value than the short call because they have almost no theta decay. So if the price of the stock moves up we remain prof... keep reading on reddit ➡
Recently, it was discovered that prototype Fleet Carriers were being constructed with flawed security firmware related to connections with Universal Cartographics - theorized to be a bug introduced by the Brewer Corporation when implementing the ability for Carriers to siphon 12.5% of profits away from various activities. This resulted in a vulnerability whereby ships docked with the Carrier could trivially forge high-level and admin credentials using exposed authentication keys - allowing for the download of almost all hidden data within Universal Cartographics database.
We were alerted to this bug due to the actions of an anonymous CMDR, alias "MundiExStella". Their information went under the radar of the authorities and as such, we believe this defect has made it to production.
We, who shall remain anonymous, have used this oversight to test the locks of every unique permit (bar one) resulting in a tota... keep reading on reddit ➡
Currently not taking any more requests!
I've been collecting all of these items for a while now to do a free catalogue event for all of you lovely people, just as a small thank you for being so nice and loving, and always giving so much and being so selfless!
I'll be inviting two people over at a time to come and catalogue any of these items (you don't have to pick up all of them if you only need a few) and after both people are done, I'll be briefly hovering over the items to make sure everything is in order (don't want people replacing the items with stuff in their pockets by mistake) then you can both leave via the airport (I was previously ending session, but Celested showed up so I'll be asking you to use airport as to not reset her)
The sanrio posters are just to the bottom right of the wheels off-camera (these can be ordered for 1000 bells each by searching 'poster' in your catal... keep reading on reddit ➡
