No, Valve did not simply "publish" left 4 dead. They are a huge part of why it's so great

With the recent talk around Back 4 Blood, there's been a lot of talk both here and from prominent youtubers that seems intent to bad-mouth Valve and praise turtle rock.

I routinely see "valve didn't do left 4 dead 1, turtle rock did, valve just punished it" and obviously turtle rock loves putting "from the markers of left 4 dead" on all their products.

But this is so false it's not even funny. Left 4 dead is on valves engine, uses valves game scripting tools, was written by valve writers, assets and maps were made with valves authoring tools, voiced by valve in-house actors, the score was recorded by the valve symphony orchestra. The games key feature was valves AI director.

To imply valve simply published the game is such an insult. The original concept was turtle rock sure. The beta was turtle rock, but everything I love about the game came from valve. Hell, left 4 dead 2 (my favorite of the two) was 100% valve.

We've seen what turtle rock is capable without valve in the form of Evolve. From the look of things, back 4 blood will do the same bullshit with all paywalls and 60 dollar game with characters and maps that are mtx only.

Read up the whole history about why valve and turtle rock parted ways and valve was gracious enough to let them keep their name.

I'll play this game in 2 years when it goes free to play like evolve

Tyler McVicker (formerly Valve News Network) claims to have information on numerous titles including NEW VEGAS 2

https://youtu.be/J82HbvwxBxs

Starting at 3:56

EDIT: You guys seem pretty quick to judge. This dude has been a reliable source on Valve for a long time now. I've been following him for 5-6 years and he's really thorough with his reporting and he's never pulled anything out of his ass. Altough I wouldnt put money on everything he's saying as he does sometimes (probably more often from now on) report second-hand rumors.

EDIT2: He tweeted he is expecting NV2 to release in the latter half of this decade (makes sense considering Obsidians line-up), TESVI 2026-27, Fallout 5 in the 30s (feels weird to call the next decade that) and Starfield will take another year or two (personally I'm glad FO76 and Cyberpunk 2077 happened, the devs of other huge titles will hopefully get time to finish games now).

EDIT3: Apparently my post inspired a couple of shitty articles. Sorry Tyler.
