[OC] Hammer and Anvil (Part 1 of 2: Unexpected Allies)

[Next]

The Xan’thuilli ship hit us in hyperspace, lurking in the mass-shadow of a star and then striking as we passed by. We tumbled, flailing. Our hyperspace engines stuttered and cut out, and I heard the alarms as one of them failed. From the sound of it, something was on fire.

With a horrific wrench that almost made me shed my vestigial tail, the Promise Upheld was suddenly back in realspace. The alarms were still wailing, but our battleshields went up so that when the Worms slid out of hyperspace and slammed another attack into us, it splashed harmlessly into the void. However, a second alarm joined the first.

“Field calibration has slipped!” warned the shield-tech, an amphibioid from Deep Dreaming that was in the middle of its asexual cycle. Its name sounded like water gurgling down a drain, so we'd called it Burble. “We lost three-sixteenths in that hit alone

[Essay] Reportorial style - medium specificity, satire, and the 'oral' story

If you don't feel you need permission in essay form to use the style of narration discussed below, you're probably far enough along in your craft that this doesn't apply to you.

A friend of mine is trying to coin the term 'longpost®' to describe an otherwise high-effort post that verges on being a 'shitpost' for reasons of coming unsolicited, rambling, sloppy formatting, and sheer excessive length.

Let's preface this longpost® with the most useful Burroughs quotation I've come across:

> "consider what actually happens when you read… Reading an alphabetical language we tend to lose sight of the fact that the written word is an image, and that written words are images in sequence… when you read you are seeing a film, and if you don't see anything you won't read the book" - lecture on creative reading, 1977 (starting 4:19)

The 3h cast in a slasher flick

Hey kids I'm back! With the advent of some trying to emulate my style, seems I'm gonna have to step up my game to stay on top... So time for something a little different. This time it seems one dark night Garreg Mach is visited by a sinister and terrible killer, as fear starts mounting and the bodies are piling up... Will anyone last the night? Or will only the killer remain standing?

Take note: in order to keep the surprise over who the killer is, I'll be ditching my usual "divided by house" format and spoiler tagging each event. Good luck trying to guess the killer before the final reveal. No prize in it though and we all know you didn't guess it before clicking any of the spoiler tags so don't be that guy... That being said there will be a few hints as to who's behind the mask, so pay attention.

Trigger Warning: This one is going to need it. I'm going to specifically construct an in-depth warning per post, but this is an immediate postbellum US Civil War western with an ex-Confederate States Army narrator. As the descendants of Union soldiers, I don't mean to either portray the Union as a vigorously righteous anti-slavery force, nor the Confederacy as a bunch of maniacally rabid slavers whom conducted a lynching every fortnight and laughed with racist cruelty as men stood in chains. I'll discuss my own personal opinions on the Civil War in the comments, if requested, but rest assured I'll neither lionize nor demonize anything, but portray it as I think it is reasonable for the men of the day to find it, within reason. There's things I won't say, for legal reasons, but I'll also not try to whitewash the prevailing attitudes of the day that we by and large find abhorrent.

With that in mind, read on, for the tale of an ex-Confederate Captain, an Oberlin-trained Freedman, a

The Annapurna Circuit: Trip report and guide (Intro and Part I)

Based on my July 2018 experience

This was not technically an ultralight backpacking trip. However, my experience on this trip was a catalyst to me switching over. I remember the clear difference between two fellow trekkers I met. One carrying 25kg of gear, the other only 7. The former I passed one day struggling up the trail despite him having several hours head start. He looked miserable. The latter never seemed as tired as I was and rarely stopped for breaks. My load was between the two but I wished it was much lighter.

This is also not a backpacking trip in the traditional sense. No tents or sleeping pads. Beds every night. You don’t cook your own food either. However, you could do those things on this trip as several other backpackers that I met attested. Regardless, it is an adventure that I think the ultralight community will appreciate as we all long to be back in the wilderness. Also worth noting: I am not sponsored by anyone. Any recommendation is simply based on my experi

Bambi and Thumper vs. The Big Bad Wolf (ORIGINAL SOURCE MILITARY STORY)

Bambi and Thumper vs. The Big Bad Wolf

Does anyone remember watching one of the final scenes of the Lord of the Rings trilogy where Frodo and his fellow Hobbits Samwise, Matthew, and Perry (I’m not sure about those last two) are just sitting at a table in the middle of the festivities? All of the other Hobbits were celebrating the near impossible victory against the forces of evil while Frodo and his buddies where just sitting there, stunned and shocked that they were still alive. This short scene, which only lasts a few seconds, is my favorite scene of the whole trilogy because that one scene shows exactly what happens when soldiers return from a year of war. We would oftentimes meet at a drinking establishment and sit in stunned silence, amazed that we were still alive after all of the horrors we had experienced. This was the case not too long ago when I was with a few buddies. We were sitting in an unnamed gentlemen’s club out in the middle of the El Paso desert. Weird as it ma

Zombie elevator romance

Cold Comfort

They sat on opposite sides of the elevator, feet pressed sole to sole while zombies plummeted from the rooftop far above.

"So," Lyle began, then paused as a snarling form banged off the glass roof and cartwheeled out of sight. "I'm just going to be honest here. You were pretty much the love of my life."

This confession drew an exhausted bark of laughter from Susan. "Okay, wow. Honesty right back at you: That was goddamn cheesy." One bloodstained hand waved tiredly at the scenery below. "Maybe pick a better time, Romeo?"

Lyle spared a glance at the gloomy sea of groping hands beneath their stalled elevator. "Yeah," he acknowledged. "Not the best time, really." Bloodshot eyes settled onto hers. "But I figured this might be my last chance."

"That's-" She coughed hard, tasted blood. "That's not fair."

He nodded once, slowly. "Yeah. I know. Sorry?"

"Don't be."

"Don't be what? Sorry?"

"Yeah. That."

What’s an interesting case that didn’t get much coverage due to media bias (against race, gender, age, looks, socioeconomic background, etc.)?

Someone recently posted Leigh Occhi's name so I looked it up and thought it was fascinating. I think the reason why this case got little to no mainstream media coverage is that despite Leigh being a blonde white girl (which the media loves to cover, let's be honest) she came from a poor family in a flyover state. Doesn’t sell as well as a well put together upper middle class family. Also, and I feel bad saying this, but she wasn’t as photogenic as some others whose cases got more attention.

Here’s a summary of Leigh’s case because I gotta meet the 750 word threshold 🙃

> Leigh was last seen at her family's residence in the 100 block of Honey Locust Drive in Tupelo, Mississippi on August 27, 1992. Her mother, Vickie Felton, saw her before leaving for work at 7:35 a.m. Leigh planned to attend an open house at her school that day, and was waiting for her grandmother to come pick her up. Maybe it's a place scarred by the great wizard war. Maybe it's just land that hides lair of beholder. Maybe it's just odd piece of land, like the zone in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. . Point is, there is odd things happening there, aside from magic going haywire. Let's come up with the weird stuff that can be encountered there:

 1. PCs encounter a bear, that appears to be struggling to get some substance out of it's left hind leg. Coming closer, they see it's some kind of slime, that quickly spreads from the leg to the body, devouring it, while also replacing it. In no time, the grizzly is replaced with grizzly-shaped ooze/slime of your choice.
 2. PCs come around to a single, lit candle. If they put out the flame by any means, magical darkness devours 300 ft. radius around the now unlit candle. Single shadow materializes out of the smoke, attacking the party. If the candle is lit, the shadow, and the darkness disappear. The shadow won't pursue the party out of the darkness cover

Well before my next jump I got a surprise. Remember when I said they didn't find any contaminants. Well that turned out to be bullshit. Whatever I had shot left something on my clothes. Some new people came in just as I was starting my next mission briefing. They didn't even introduce themselves before starting to ask a bunch of questions. I didn't know who they were and didn't talk. I just motioned to the one giving my briefing and he had a puzzled look on his face. I just got up and said "Whenever you're ready to continue call me."

One of them stood in front of the door and tried to look intimidating. I seriously wanted to laugh. You can't look intimidating when you are three inches shorter and build like a plank of wood. "You're not going anywhere. Sit down." he said to me while looking up into my eyes. I turned and looked at the small group, five in total, that had walked into the room. [Medieval reenactment] - Groups rejected over failure to enforce period underwear

First off, yes, the pun is intentional.

The hobby of Reenactment is focussed around creating, and showing to the public or eachother, a perfect representation of a historical timeperiod. Generally, reenactment groups pick a time of war, because playing soldier is more fun than playing starving peasant. A rather important definition: "Period-noun" means, "as used during the year being reenacted". So during an event showing 1624, period-socks would be socks as worn by someone in 1624.

Now, it's important to know different groups have different standards. Everyone has a "no visible modern stuff" rule, but some take this further, requiring period, hand-sewn underclothes, period sleeping arrangements and "true period food". The latter doesn't just mean "no pizza and fries" but also means "No broccoli, no tomatoes and no orange carrots".

Generally, events give out a general idea of what is and isn't acceptable. Generally, the standards are "no visible modern things", with exceptions and

From the article: https://slate.com/human-interest/2019/11/california-wildfires-evacuation.html

Interesting to read the range of people's reactions, from having to evacuate twice within two years.

As expected, people who didn't have a plan were often caught flat-footed, forgetting to bring many essentials (and not considering that only certain shelters will accept pets, and only under certain conditions):

> When, at 3:30 a.m., they finally found a shelter with room that also accepted cats, she discovered she’d forgotten a few things. She’d remembered pillowcases but forgotten pillows; brought her mother’s nebulizer but forgotten the medicine that came with it. They were working on getting this last one fixed; she’d put a blanket into the pillowcase to make Sandy a pillow. It’s hard enough not to forget things for a short trip—even when you aren’t rushed or scared—but it’s something else to rec

Thoughts on the book...

Hi u/wordblender. I’ve just finished your book, and found it a very interesting read. I also believe that this was much more than Mother Nature at work, and something sinister happened to these poor hikers. A lot of the points you discussed have heightened my suspicions, particularly Rempel. Something is not right there.

There were a few things that really got me thinking and looking for answers, and I have some observations about them. Maybe you could let me know what you think?

If the information regarding the bleeding around the eye sockets of those who lost their eyes is correct, it’s a game changer. I only say if because I wonder how much we can trust the examiners, especially after 4 bodies spent so many months in the ravine. As you pointed out, they failed to make any comment on how Lyuda's mouth looked inside - whether the area around the tongue looked cut, or chewed/ragged. Some of their other observations were lacking detail. I wonder how hastily they were examined.

Gambeson..

This is just a quick thought that i had which raised a question..

In most depictions of 10th/11th century European Medieval soldiers they are shown wearing a mail hauberk or shirt over the top of a Gambeson, later on the in the 12th/13th century and Crusades period the Surcoat comes into fashion along with the chainmail Chausses but in all depictions the Chainmail is placed over the top of the Gambeson, with the Gambeson being on top of the wearers underclothes.

The question is - Why was mail worn over the top of a Gambeson and not underneath it? wouldn't it make more sense for the Gambeson to be ontop?

A slightly more thick and covering set of underclothes would be required to protect the wearer from chafing etc. But having the Gambeson cushion any incoming blow or slow any piercing attack prior to coming in contact with the mail would be a benefit and would improve the performance of the mail, likewise i imagine the mail is less likely to get damaged where Gambeson is cheaper to

I've never posted on Reddit before, but, I need... something.

First and foremost: I have nothing morally / politically / etc against cross-dressing, transgender, homosexuals, or anything like that. Many people in my family are gay and my brothers even cross-dress and one does drag shows, I support it all completely. I've known my husband for nearly 16 years now, and we've been together for 8. He's always been a bit of a "hot head" and vocally judgmental, which are really the only 'flaws' I've had to address, and I've felt like we've worked past them. I love him so incredibly much and would do anything I ever could for him and his happiness, but I'm a bit "stuck"...

He has always been a self-proclaimed "manliest of men", and has always been very dominant (in and out of the bedroom). Personally, that's always appealed to me, complements my generally feminine/submissive nature all around, and I've fallen in love with him for who he is, he's my world and my best friend...

A harsh north wind blew growling down upon the roads warning of destruction ahead, making the way to go even more trivial. "Aye! Towards which way sire?", asked Nikolaj.

Nikolaj was a squire and hand to the king, at only 18 was quite the accomplishment. While he was young the squire was fairly brilliant in military and combat strategy. This making up for his dull seemingly unintelligent looks. The sun gleamed over the gently smeared clouds across the mundane blue sky, t'was a fine weather indeed. Finer than what the peasants had witnessed recently, the sudden change of pace was breath-taking. For it was only yesterday that the sky tanned itself in brown, forming a coalition of cocoa colored clouds sprawled across it. It stormed, so heavily and unrelenting it was almost as if the peasants incurred the wrath of the divine ones above. A purge perhaps? It certainly wasn't the first time someone wanted to smite them. But alas, good things always come to an end.

The grimy peasants crawled out from their wet and filthy shacks that they call housing, the even-more-unfortunate rest squirming out from whatever hole they could take shelter in. Slowly they sprawled out across the streets of their little district, looking up at the sky with soft brushed clouds and the sun with all of its luke-warmth, to the ones above they probably look like cockroaches that they couldn't quell.

WHY IS NO ONE TALKING ABOUT THIS?!

Chances are, you either have been bullied or know of someone who has/is. The common "Bullying Assembly" the school sets up, telling you what it is, and what to do.

How many of you have told a school staff members about the situation in the case of bullying? I BET there is a 95% or < chance of the adults either...

 1. Didn't do anything.
 2. Barely gave any consequences.
 3. The situation wasn't treated fairly / adequately.
 4. The adults couldn't / wouldn't take it up to the principle.

Honestly I BEG for this topic to be discussed about! It's unfair that students are told to trust adults to handle situations when they (commonly) treat the case to the bare minimum.

The Wedding at Darry, 407 AC

EDIT:

#WE'RE FEATURED YALL

The Sept at Darry was a rather plain affair, with no marble columns at it’s entrance, no doors inlaid with gold like the septs at most similarly large towns. Inside there was row upon row of wooden benches; Darry may have been a Baelorian fiefdom but that made little difference when the sept was designed for nearly the entire town to be squeezed in. It rarely fit so many these days of course. The Sept had been designed before the Red Revival and the Schism, back when you’d be hard-pressed to find a man that didn’t share the Faith of the Seven. Now half its pews would lie empty even during the feast days, let alone a normal sermon. Today however, it would be full to bursting and more.

Upon the dais, looming over the empty pews like sentinels, were the statues of the Seven. They were lovingly carved out of wood, the intricate faces painted on with coloured paints that had not faded over the previous century due to fastidious care. The Father loomed

As people leave I've noticed a phenomenon I'll call the "Wave". People will be going along, wearing new underwear, drinking a beer, and suddenly have a relapse feeling "What if the temple was true" or "I miss the white furniture quiet room". Sometimes people wonder if they are going to die if they take the garment off as they are first exploring leaving. I was layered upppp. This was all under a sweatshirt - I usually had a sweatshirt per year and wore it every single day.

I wore the same tank top close to my skin for multiple years. I never washed it. Because washing it would mean it would feel different / tighter and it would mean I wouldn’t be wearing it for that short period of time and I NEEDED it.

I finally got some bras with underwire but they weren’t the right size and they were old woman bras.

Eventually I found an underwire bra that was tolerable. It was a heavy duty one and I would wear it every day and sleep in it every night. I needed to be wearing a bra and a tank top over it always. The tanks I’m talking about are

[OC] Back story of Cenrix, Celestial Warlock

I got invited to a new campaign recently and came up with this character.

I love all my characters, but for two of them, I get a little WAY TOO into them. Over the last few days I've jotted down this massive back story for him that I'm just really proud of.

Hope you all enjoy.

---

CHARACTER: CENRIX (KEN-rix)

RACE: SCOURGE AASIMAR

CLASS: WARLOCK

PATRON: THE CELESTIAL

Long ago, an angelic Deva named Azmodios was sent to the city of Starfall by his deity, Liliira, the goddess of happiness, contentment, and freedom.

To better serve Liliira’s purpose, Azmodios took human form. He lived in Starfall for decades, always appearing to be an old man. Every so often he would leave Starfall on some pretense, and then return in a new form, so that no one noticed the kindly old man at the outskirts of the city appeared to be immortal.

Over time, as one might expect of a servant of a goddess of good, Azmodios became endeared with the people of Starfall. In recent years, his attention fell i

The Disappearance of Leigh Occhi: A 13-year-old girl is violently abducted from her home during Hurricane Andrew on August 27, 1992. Two weeks later, her mother receives an anonymous package with her glasses inside.

This is the first of a few posts I am writing on the case of Leigh Occhi, who was abducted from her home in August 1992 and has never been seen again. I originally intended for this to be a single post, but I want to do a second post on the mystery envelope and a third about suspects.

I have an oddly specific interest in murders and disappearances that occurred in the midst of a large weather event or emergency situation, such as a hurricane, tornado, 9/11, etc. Hurricane Andrew is a particularly important event to me as a lifelong Miamian, and we just had Hurricane Matthew pass over us last night (coincidence, I started working on this a few nights ago).

To make my research more accessible, I’ve taken screenshots of anything that was behind a paywall, namely the newspaper clippings, Sources and footnotes are in the comments.

Who was Leigh Occhi?

The Clothes Argument, Apple Pie, and Back to School

So I'm doing better with the nightmare that SIL dropped on me, but Mr. Ivy is having some massive guilt. I keep telling him, and the therapists keep telling him that he was a kid, too- and it's unfair for him to accept blame for things he didn't know were going on. But, it's something he'll have to come to terms with on his own, and as much as I want to heal it for him, I can't. So I'm trying to help with snuggles and country style food.

But- while we process, life continues, and that means back to school shopping. And since plans change, and Lily has decided that she wants to try hitting the high school for part of the day, that means I have five young people who need outfitted with clothes and supplies.

Each kid is given a budget for clothes, and told that they need to get certain items on the list, and the rest is theirs. The hope is that they'll learn some budgeting, and how to spot value, with some guidance.

Pecan was a breeze- he's a tee-shirt and jeans kind of kid

I need to tell you about my neighbor.

He’s unassuming, polite, tidy, but there’s just something about him that makes me think…he’s up to no good. Now, I’ve lived in the Pennborough for a very long time. Built originally as two separate mansions that were later attached by an annex, it stands in the historic heart of Denver and has operated as everything from a hospital to a condominium complex; with such a rich history, it’s no surprise it has attracted all sorts of residents. Sure, we’ve even had the oddballs move in and out, but there’s never been anyone this spooky before.

He moved into loft number 6b nearly a year ago, in the middle of the night, lugging huge, heavy looking trunks up the stairs, totally alone and wearing a suit. He left not long after. The next night, also alone, he brought up three enormous circular cases, then left again. Two days after that, totally unannounced, a moving truck rolled up in front of the building and three men began carrying an array of furniture up to his loft: a luxurious lo

Enclosed, find the tentative script for Season 1, Episode 01 of an anime tentatively titled "Opportunity Princess."

For those interested, I compiled a full timeline (1926-1940) of events that occurred during Tom Riddle's childhood.

The timeline itself is pretty long and more detailed, so I'll link the Tumblr version here.

I wrote this post quite a while ago, but with a recent thread discussing Tom Riddle's upbringing by /u/Beerus_90, I thought I would share it an edited-for-Reddit version below.

As J.K. Rowling has mentioned that Tom Riddle's Diary is the UK equivalent of a day planner, Tom may have used it, prior to making it a Horcrux, to note down not only important events and assignments at Hogwarts, but events reported in the Muggle and wizarding newspapers as well.

She was beyond caring about a lot of things by now, and as tears continued to leak from all four eyes, she stripped out of her soaked dress as fast as she could. Her boots she tossed from her hooved feet into the corner, dripping a slurry of mud and water onto the floor.

She’d clean that up in the morning. Or maybe never. Her obsessive side would undoubtedly win in the end, but for now, it was subdued, beaten black and blue and stuffed in a mental cage.

Her dress, the cost of which was three times more than any dress she’d ever bought before, was unceremoniously dumped into the automated clothes chute. Her underclothes, just as wet, were tossed in as well, and as the gentle hum of the machine began, as it spun to lif

Alasie’s vigil was a lonely one. Other Bearers waiting for their young sons often had the company of others waiting for their own sons to return, or members of their clan, who would come by to offer encouragement. Alasie had neither. She and Uki were the last of their fading line and her daughter was the only one fool enough to do a First Hunt during winter. A mother waiting for a son would often also be visited by members of the tribe to offer their respects as well. So if anyone has the time to spend on this and dosnt care about doing it for free i'd appreciate it. Melee Damage/Strength Optimization - capable of 90k+ sneak attacks.

Since Strength affects melee/unarmed weapon damage, I was trying to figure out the highest amount of temporary strength you could have. Here's what I got. This is obviously full build and only possible fairly far into the game.

10 Strength base, with bobblehead boosting that to 11, this is a given.

Let's look at perks:

Big Leagues 4 (5 preferably, but displayed damage is currently broken on it so for testing purposes I'm only using 4. However, this means you will be doing +20% damage when they fix this)

or

Iron Fist 5 (or both this and Big Leagues, though this rank 5 damage seems to be fine, however I wouldn't suggest unarmed if looking for maximum sneak attack damage because it does not properly get the 10x bonus from Ninja unlike melee weapons)

Rooted 2 (+50% in VATS, essentially)

Lone Wanderer 3 (+25% without companion)

Bloody Mess 3 (+15% flat)

potentially Black Widow 3 for +15% more damage against males if you care.

Party Boy/Girl 2 (for alcohol later)

[The Hobbit / LOTR] Smaug was once a human(oid) or a dwarf, transformed into a dragon through magic.

I've seen this theory put forth a few times, but it's never really been backed up by much, if any, evidence. So I'm here today to present a new version of the theory, this time, including much more evidence.

TL;DNR: There is some suggested evidence that Smaug, rather than being created outright by Morgoth/Melkor, was once a human or a dwarf, who was transformed into a dragon through magic, likely trickery, and his own, immense greed.

Evidence is located in the texts that J.R. Tolkien used as a heavy basis for Middle-Earth and The Hobbit. Namely, Beowulf, in which the human King Beowulf battles "the Firedrake", which may or may not be his own [half-human] son; the legend of [Prince] Fáfnir, a son of the dwarf king Hreidmarm, who was transformed into a dragon through a cursed ring; and the widespread Scandinavian legend of "Prince Lindworm", a human [or half-human], monstrous prince, who, through his human mother's actions, was born as a d

“Nothing to report.” Sundheym sat back from the lasgun port in the side of the troop compartment.

“Is there ever?” A trooper grumbled. He was ignored. The Chimera was quiet in spite of the thirteen Guardsmen riding and crewing it. It had been that way for days. This was the third week since the victory at Dewanoki, and not once since the battle had they laid eyes on an enemy in daylight. There had been encounters, to be sure—mortar attacks in the night, sniper shots at twilight, toe-popper land mines in the mud—but never anything that could be fought.

They could call down barrages from the Wyverns in response to mortar shells or snipers, but never quickly enough to actually hit them. The material

Santoka, was born in 1882 of a landowner in Yamaguchi Prefecture. After retiring from Waseda University on account of a nervous breakdown in 1904, he married, set up a brewery with his father, whose business had failed, and together with him went bankrupt in 1916. He had begun to write haiku already in 1911, under Seisensui. He separated from his wife in 1920, and tried various jobs, but did not continue in them. From 1926, with a kasa and a beg

The dark-haired woman stilled for the barest fraction of a moment, and Squire knew then that his chances of taking care of her quickly had evaporated into thin air. “Quiet or not,” the Commander spoke with a voice that bore the soft accent of the Deoraithe,“you reek of blood.” Squire’s blade came down but the woman spun, hand grasping for the longknife on her desk and batting the killing blow aside at the last moment. As time went on, she awkwardly picked at the bandaging the Knight had performed upon her wrist, but she ultimately did not remove the bandages.

"May I sit here, Sir Knight?" asked Corinth, as she slowly approached the silent Knight.

He merely nodded in response. Much of his armor was laid out nearby, and he was fastidiously buffing it with a cloth, one piece at a time. He wore only his underclothes and his surcoat-- and, of course, his helmet. He never seemed to remove it, and it covered his entire head.

"Thank you," Corinth quietly said. She chose a spot near to him to sit down, and then promptly did so. Her eyes remained on him, watching his movements with a strange curiosity apparent on her face. "Your armor does not look overly dirty. Why clean it further, Knight?"

This is kind of a shitty complex meaning the kids are usually underclothed (no winter boots in the winter, no sweatshirts when it's cold out, half of the girls never wear shoes) for the weather, a lot of them are nice, but there are always a few rotten apples. Anyway. I've been out to our complexes park many times with my son, I've met a lot of the kids and a lot of them come play in our back yard or they ride bikes with my son. I've met the "creepy kid" who I'll be referring to as A several times and he's usually pretty shy and doesn't really talk much to me or even some of the kids. I have thought nothing of it because I was shy as a kid and he seems to open up a little around the kids (he pushes them on the swings and stuff).

Rewriting: "Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones"

I watched Attack of the Clones three times in a row. I haven't watched Episode II since 2008. It was my least watched Star Wars film in the entire series(except for Clone Wars film which was basically a pilot episode). I did get to familiar with the film despite not watching for a long time due to many reviews, wiki, and Youtube.

Recently, I begun to rewriting prequels as a fun little fix-fic. I watched Attack of the Clones after 8 or 9 years for the research purpose.

I can't believe how could this script got approved. I mean, I know there were yes men surrounding Lucas to kiss his ass but the Phantom Menace got critically panned, right? If anything, Episode II should naturally have been a semi-watchable film, not worse. At least with the Phantom Menace, I can watch it. I moaned at many scenes, but I can watch it fully and even enjoy a few ideas, visuals and moments. With Episode 2, I wanted to turn off. I was legitimately pissed.

I can babble how much Attack of the Clones sucked mo

Doom Eternal seems to provide further proof that the Praetor Suit might not be as "demonic" originated as it seems.

A part two from an old post about how human terms, words, etc appear on the Praetor Suit.

Now yes, the lore for the Praetor suit is that the Doomslayer must've worn it when going through hell, and the Wretch modified it (most likely to absorb Demonic life-force, and utilise the Spheres everywhere) It doesn't mean the Praetor Suit is unique, but is essentially just a modified set of Marine Power Armour (with some newer UAC mods)

But let's get to business:

In the main game play reveal (13:00 in in the extended one by MKIceandFire) you can see what looks like a less bulky (non-power armoured) version of the Praetor suit. [Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dG2lJ3mmQC4]

Concept for the Marauder looks like it's wearing a modified Praetor Suit as-well, whether it's just scrapped-armour or a possessed marine from long ago is yet to be seen, though considering the ripping of the underclothing, and wielding a SSG, I'd assume it's the latter. Make Me a Hero Chapter 12: In Strange Company

I have found the time to write yet again. Yipee.

If this is your first time with this tale of mine, here's the first chapter to get you started

Please enjoy. Potential spoilers ahead. Read at your own discretion.

Marth could only gasp in awe at sights and smells that bombarded her senses. From the peals of children laughing to the savory scents of roasted meat that wafted from the cooking spits, these things were absent for so long in the desolate state of mind Marth had grown accustomed to. What should have been regarded as normal for many was in fact foreign and alien to her. This sense of normalcy was a far cry from the war she had been immersed in for what seemed like so long.

It felt like a small sliver of paradise in the vast desert of war that had stretched out before her. A distant dream she had desperately yearned for.

Newly out genderqueer person with lots of questions!!!!!!!

Hey y'all! I'm new to being genderqueer, this thread, and actually Reddit completely (I only just created a Reddit to find some NB/GQ community), and I have a bunch of questions that I'd appreciate some insight on! I'll try to seperate them clearly to make what I'm sure will be a super long post more manageable :)

Pronouns:

Are there any good singular ones out there? I've been using they/them because I don't like anything else I've seen (Ze/zir or xe/xir) and I was wondering if there were more gender neutral pronouns I hadn't heard of.

Also I need some advice on how to deal with being misgendered. After I realized I was genderqueer, being misgendered began to feel like an electric shock. It makes me feel absolutely horrible, and usually I'm too stunned to respond and correct people. When strangers do it, I get too scared to say anything because I have no idea if that person is going to further invalidate me (or do something even worse?); when it's people I know, I fall into an imme

A Day on the Submarine

The alarm on the wall wakes Shemesh, son of Ningal, up at 0400 as it does everyday. The alarm is necessary, for Shemesh does not have the sun to tell him what time of day it is. Shemesh has never seen the sun.

Shemesh rises, then folds his bunk up into the wall, giving him a little more room in his otherwise tiny, closet-sized quarters. He retrieves his worker's uniform from the foot locker which, together with the sink, takes up almost half of the room. He washes at the sink, makes sure his beard is trimmed to regulation, and steps out into the hallway of the nuclear submarine he shares with the rest of the Babylonians. There are 6,118 of them in this tiny underwater city, according to the last census.

Already many of the other workers are shuffling through the grey steel hallways, bleary-eyed, as they go on their way to breakfast. Some of these workers will go to the algae vats and protein synthesizers, growing the food that feeds the Babylonians. Others will run the water treatmen

could this mostly be depression?

so I have been questioning. I accept that I am either bi-gender or a trans feminine NB. I don't really think I am a binary Transgender Woman, but hey, a year ago I wouldn't even be able to say the above so, who knows? am I right? anyway, so I have accepted I am not cis, my wife and I have struggled with what this means, we argued, I felt bad, she felt bad, we both felt bad. No I feel better about everything, so does she. I still present male, I have changed some things about the way I dress, mostly underclothes, and I shave my arm pits, but that's about it. I struggle back and forth with feeling feminine and happy and masculine and mad at myself for wanting to feel masculine, but under those thing I acknowledge I am becoming comfortable with myself every day, integrating the female part of my gender into who I am and everyday with less and less judgement. Dr. No Contemporary Reviews.

A few days ago I was in the British Library looking at some old newspapers for fun when a thought occurred to me that it might be interesting to see what critics had to say about old Bond films at the time that they were released. The Wikipedia reception page for Dr. No lists a few snippets from some publications (2 American newspapers/magazines and 3 British ones) so I wanted to see what other members of the press thought about it. Below, in no particular order, are 6 reviews from newspapers from the weekend that Dr. No was released in UK cinemas. I may do this again for other films in the series if there's enough interest.

It was also interesting to note that old newspapers did not have as much pre-publicity - there were no real interviews that I could find, although I may have a more thorough look in the future.

If you want them in image form, I have taken the time to isolate them and upload them here. However, for ease of reading, I have transcribed t

Here is how, a long tiring story, somme of the different routes, tips, tricks and a packing list we used. If you don't want to read all of it, thats cool, go ahead and read what you need, enjoy :D.

Be advised: I am NOT an expert, dont follow my tips blindly, we were lucky with weather, and my partner has extensive rope and climbing practice. So do know, we might just have been lucky. Dont count on luck.

Storytime So i guess it all started about 15 years ago when i got signed up to be a scout, without these imense and amazing experiences along the years, i would never have gotten the will or experience to do something like this, in 2010 i climbed Galhøpiggan in Norway (2469 m.asl) with the scouts, and that lighted my will for adventure.

Jessa had spent a fair amount of time making sure all her gear was clean and presentable, and she wore her full chainmail and breastplate, along with her shortsword, although Tomas warned there was a good chance it'd be taken away from her before she was allowed in the audience chamber. The innkeeper had suggested she turn up early, as "there's always plenty of folks ready to have a good moan about something." Jessa turned up at the rear gate shortly after dawn, where there was already a lengthy queue.

I've been in therapy, taking medication, and regularly meditating, and it's all made me a totally new person. I've come a really long way. But I still feel like no matter how much I get better, everything from my past is always going to follow me, and I'll never be able to have a normal life because I'm 'tainted'. I don't even want to commit suicide because I'm depressed... I want to die because I wish I could erase everything and start over.

When I was little I had so much trouble doing things normal kids could. I wouldn't take care of my hygiene, or make eye contact or be able to communicate with anyone. I still don't know what I am (long post)

(I apologize in advance if anyone finds it gross that I'm talking about sexuality in reference to someone like myself.)

I've been struggling for some time now to figure out whether or not I'm asexual.

I'm a middle-aged woman with no romantic or sexual experience: never dated, held hands, been kissed, etc.

This hasn't really been because I have absolutely no interest in those things, though, but because I'm extremely ugly (genetic condition that causes massive weight gain, deformed body shape, skin damage, facial-feature distortions, etc). So, I've never had a chance, and regardless of my sexual orientation, I obviously will never have a relationship.

But I guess I'm still curious for myself, and this isn't something people are willing to discuss with me IRL (because my appearance makes talk of attraction very uncomfortable for others).

Mormonism is built to distribute guilt whenever the magical aspects of the faith fails to deliver. I'm writing a book on guilt and Mormonism, (mostly memoir-ish) and mostly a humorous poke. Below are some examples. I'd love to hear your own.

Prayers not rendering answers? Perhaps you're not humble enough, or grateful enough. Are you supplicating because you don't sound like you're supplicating? Did you ponder before you started praying and then also after, because you know, God loves him a good ponder pray ponder sandwich. Also, first read some scripture, avoid repetition, don't focus on yourself, pore out your soul and use some Elizabethan English to favor God's ear but most important, first express gratitude and really spend some time with it so God knows you're serious, maybe get the whole family to help pray for your cause and honestly, would a little fast kill you? I'm a pre-op, pre-HRT transwoman, and I am kind of ashamed to admit that I'm pretty masculine-looking and a 'big guy'. In spite of it all, I'm working towards getting a referral for hormones, and affirming my true gender. This means that I've started, well... womaning up, and actually browsing and even trying on clothes that interest me in Walmart and thrift stores.

What I am asking is this: when you see someone like me looking around, be it in the ladies general clothing or underclothing sections, putting things into a basket and, in some cases, taking those baskets to the dressing room, do you feel uncomfortable?

I'm self-conscious as heck when I go shopping, but I'm genuinely curious what the women around me are likely thinking.

Since I hit the road I chose to minimize my selections to just what I can fit in a 40L bag. That means it's a highly portable, durable, quick-drying selection of fabrics, mostly high tech synthetics or merino wool, chosen for weight, volume, breathability and durability, all in black and gray for simplicity in coordination. I come from a small town in the heart of the country. Assholes call it flyover country. Assholes pretending like they’re good people call it the heartland, where those feisty rural working-class folks toil away with their coal and factories and plants. We used to be the pride of the country. Now we’re only featured on segments about opioids, or the declining economy of Appalachia.

But while the limited attention of the country focused there, something else was happening in my town. Something far worse. It seemed minor, innocent at the time. When we realized what was really happening, it was too late. I may not make it out, may not live to see our town restored to what it once was. Heavy machinery roared to life outside our apartment, jolting me awake as usual. I wouldn’t be able to see the massive mechanical shapes from my window, not since the smog came, but I looked anyway. Habits were hard to bre
