Hi there,
I was raised by two RPCVs (Tuvalu 80-82) and I wanted to share a film I made to document their first return back to their former home 37 years later. Although I never joined Peace Corps myself, I believe the culture my parents brought home with them to the US deeply impacted my own upbringing, and for that Iβm very thankful.
Itβs a very simple film. We only used our own money. On the ground we shot it all on GoPro cameras to be as small, lightweight, and nimble as possible, allowing for intimate and real reconnections to take place.
It is available to watch on Youtube if interestedβ https://youtu.be/_01FoG52c0U
Iβm incredibly proud of my parents and the service that the Peace Corps gives to the world. So thank you to all the RPCVs and current volunteers out there.
Synopsis:
Two Returned Peace Corps Volunteers return to the small Pacific island country of Tuvalu 37 years after the conclusion of their service. Scott and Myra bring their now adult sons to Nukulaelae, an island of roughly 300 people, to experience the unique and beautiful culture of the place they called home for nearly 3 years. On their journey they face unpredictable travel schedules by sea and forces of nature that almost prevent them from reaching their coveted destination. Through challenges of uncertainty the family turns to their Tuvaluan friends, appreciating the beauty of the islands and catching up on a generation of missed time together. This is a story of human empathy and the value of cultural exchange, as well as a philosophical look into mankindβs relationship with nature, the prospect of climate change, and a celebration of the Peace Corps.
Directed and narrated by their youngest son, Nick, this is an attempt to tell a deeply personal story with far fewer resources than a typical documentary film. All images are from a GoPro camera, a Mavic Mini drone, old photographs from the 1980βs, and recent cell phone footage of tropical weather events.

So I'm finding it a lot harder than I thought it would be to PEN all my tuvala gear, so I'm thinking so focusing on the one piece I'm going to convert to boss gear. I would assume weapons would be best but Im seeing some people say that chest piece might be better. I just want a straight answer even if that answer is it doesn't really mater. This is pretty much my first character so I don't really have much other than this season gear and I'm playing a Guardian. Any insight would be great, Thanks.
Tuvalu's top level domain is .tv which they make millions of dollars a year from renting it out to websites like twitch
(Had to use world fact bc thee is no pacific island or oceania one) Also hi u/Vexx3r
Hi everyone,
I wanted to share a documentary that I shot almost entirely on GoPro cameras. Last December (2019) my family and I took a trip to Tuvalu (one of the smallest nations in the world). My parents were Peace Corps volunteers in 1980-82 and this was their first time returning in 37 years. The island they once called home, Nukulaelae, has a population of roughly 300 people, and it proved difficult to get there. In fact, we almost didn't.
I had used GoPros for travel videos before, mostly vignettes to commemorate each experience, but this was the my first time utilizing the cameras narratively and to tell a deeply personal story. The footage is mostly from (2) GoPro Hero 7 Blacks and (1) Hero 8 Black, which had just released right before our trip, and then supplemented by drone shots, old photographs from Tuvalu in the 1980s, and some found cell phone footage from local Tuvaluans.
It's available on Youtube in case anyone would like to watch it. I chose to put it on Youtube in the interest and priority to make it easy and available for Tuvaluans to view it, whose culture the film really celebrates. I am humbled by anyone who gives this story their time.

I wanted to share a documentary that I made. I shot it on GoPro cameras and a DJI Mavic Mini. Overall because it was such a minimalist approach, there were very little hard costs to make it.
So this journey to reconnect with old friends a generation later is the center of the story, along with the symbolism of their cultural exchange and the mission of the Peace Corps. The full synopsis is below.
I had used GoPros for some smaller travel videos before, mostly vignettes to commemorate each experience, but this was the my first time utilizing the cameras narratively and to tell a deeply personal story. Having such small cameras helped for a journey like this. Most of the real people photographed just acted natural and it left me room to get close and captured some nice moments and imagery.
The footage is mostly from (2) GoPro Hero 7 Blacks and (1) Hero 8 Black, which had just released right before our trip, and then supplemented by drone shots on the Mavic Mini, old photographs from Tuvalu in the 1980s, and some found cell phone footage from local Tuvaluans.
I cut the doc on Adobe Premiere Pro. Keeping a minimalist approach, Premiere is also where I edited the sound design and applied some very basic color correction. I recorded my own voice narration in Garage Band.
It's available on Youtube in case anyone would like to watch it. I chose to put it on Youtube in the interest and priority to make it easy and available for Tuvaluans to view it, whose culture the film really celebrates. I am humbled by anyone who gives this story their time.
RETURN TO TUVALU - A PEACE CORPS STORY
(My apologies if the mods find this to fall into a βtravelβ or βv-logβ video, but I feel that its story content and narrative separates itself into more of a doc category.)
