Husband and I live in a community where backyards are pretty small and homes are close together (side note: this is how homes are built in the city we live in, more lot space is not affordable for us). For this reason, we made sure to buy a home with a privacy fence.
At Christmas the neighbors directly behind us erected a massive trampoline in their backyard. The yards are so small, the trampoline extends from the back of their house all the way up to our fence line. The cage/netting also extends several feet above our privacy fence.
This means that when my husband and I are relaxing around our in ground pool, we now have up to 5 kids at a time bouncing up over our fence line, screaming/shouting as they stare at us. I can't be sure of the exact distance from their trampoline to the chairs on our pool deck, but I can tell you they are literally right there. It's really killed the privacy we used to enjoy in our backyard. We also live in a state with warm weather year long so they are out there on it a lot. I'm not sure if they play really loud or if it's just how close the homes are together, but we can even hear them from almost every room inside our house. I don't recall the noise ever being this bad before the trampoline (and we do expect a certain level of noise from the children playing and have never minded it before). They also continue to knock balls and other toys into our yard from the trampoline, and then ring our door bell to ask us to retrieve them every time it happens (we have two small dogs and work from home so this is a nuisance as well).
Guys, I absolutely understand these parents were trying to do something nice for their kids, and that it's important for kids to play outside and get their energy out, particularly now during this pandemic. However, this giant trampoline has really impacted our peace and privacy, and I don't think it was the most neighborly thing for these parents to erect it literally right next to our privacy fence.
WIBTA if we asked the parents to move the trampoline away from our fence line or ask our HOA to step in on our behalf? From what I can see, it looks like any where they move the trampoline, it's still going to be close to our fence, though a place further away from our pool seating area looks possible and would be more ideal. However, I'm worried that involving the HOA could result in the trampoline being removed entirely, and the children being disappointed.
EDIT: Thank you so much everyone for yo... keep reading on reddit ➡
So we live in a communal block of flats by the council, we're lucky to be surrounded by a fair chunk of grass and enclosed off from any roads.
At the semi beginning of lockdown we brought a second hand trampoline off of Facebook as our kid has some health issues that I won't go into and we were worried about his progress. So he has it for about a month before we get slapped with a notice from the council saying we have 2 weeks to remove it for safety violations.
So i ring up the council lady and say about his condition and how this is great for his mental health etc, she doesn't care in the slightest, keeps giving the robot response of we can't have it as its a safety hazard etc etc.
We didn't know when we got it that we weren't allowed it, but we hid it in such away between big bushes and trees that you wouldn't know it was there unless you went looking for it. So this lady says it was reported by a neighbour and thats why they know about it.
There was no way of getting around it we had to get rid of it. So I sent her a very long list of safety hazards that I'd found from other peoples garden furniture to loose bricks in paths, loose hand rails, no fire safety, trees falling down in storms and owners with aggressive dogs etc. Must have been fifty odd hazards. She had to reply to every single one.
Also, I managed to sell the trampoline for more than I paid for it, downside, they stole one of the bins.
EDIT: We have a communal garden, we were told that it was in the tenancy agreement that we weren't allowed to keep any play equipment or furniture outside as its a safety hazard. In which i replied that there was lots of things outside. Their stuff was given notices but not taken, and it is all unused camping chairs and stuff like that which gets left on the main path and tripped over. It's all very much still there. The dog comment was more a child can't run in the grassy area because there are a lot of dogs that chase him relentlessly.
EDIT 2: For clarification, we spoke to 95% of our neighbours before we did this, that way we had as many safety concerns on there as possible, everyone immediately said one specific neighbour ratted out the trampoline which we assumed they did anyway, none of the neighbours like them and the majority of the stuff outside was theirs and has been dumped there for months and mostly broken. Most the neighbours said it was unfair that we had to remove our stuff which helped our kid and he got to keep his stuff out, that... keep reading on reddit ➡
For the majority of my teenage years and into my early twenties, my parents owned a holiday home in a very scenic part of the UK, I spent the majority of my summers here chilling out, drinking and just hanging out with the other teenagers at the holiday park the home was on! Our plot of land was often the social hub, because of the huge trampoline my parents had bought! Most of the kids would come round and play on it, and it was a great laugh. (Who doesn't love a trampoline?)
Two of the teenagers that spent a lot of time on the park, were called Zara and Sasha, two sisters that were only a year apart.. They were of Caribbean descent, both were blessed with incredible bodies, especially their bums and legs! They always played quite rough, especially Zara, the elder of the two. Id once or twice seen her kick or punch a guy in the nuts.. and even though she'd never done it to me, she had often threatened to do it, while Sasha was usually quite a bit quieter and even a little shy.
This is where it really picked up.... It was near the end of summer, so the majority of families had gone home... However one of the remaining families was that of Zara and Sasha. I was jumping around on the trampoline, getting a bit of exercise and just messing about, when Zara, followed by Sasha... Zara was dressed in a crop top, a summer skirt and sandals, while Sasha was also dressed in a crop top, but with really tight short shorts, and wearing nothing at all on her feet.
Without saying a word, Zara climbed up onto the trampoline, got right up in my face and snarled 'Get off, this our trampoline now!' As she was a few years younger, and a hell of a lot smaller, I just laughed at her and told her to shut up.... The next thing i knew there was a roaring pain between my legs, with no warning or hesitation Zara had rocketed her knee up into my balls, seemingly as hard as she could... she left it lingering for a second or two (even though it felt like hours) and began to let out an evil laugh... I crumpled to my knees at Zara's feet.. she then grabbed me by the hair, stood behind my and pulled me backwards, so that I was sat up on my bum, with my legs sprawled out in front of me, only being propped up by Zara standing behind me, trying to pull the hairs out of my head.
With this distraction, I hadn't noticed that Sasha had also gotten onto the trampoline... she sat opposite me, shot me an evil smirk and drove the sole of her bare foot into my balls, wriggling it around... keep reading on reddit ➡
