As the .su top-level domain was introduced just over a year before the dissolution of the USSR, did the Communist Party of the Soviet Union have an internet webpage? If so, who made it?

What are the plans of making UD top level domains so that they are supported without a gateway? And what if another company claims the top level domains?

TLDR: top level domains are things like .com, .eu, and for UD .crypto, .nft, .dao etc. UD does not own the .crypto, .nft, .dao, .888 top level domains yet. They use a gateway to simulate these domains as actual domains. What is their strategy? And what if someone else gets the .crypto top level domain?

Hi all!

Basically the title. But to explain it a bit more;

A top level domain is for example .com, .nl, .eu, .de, basically this list.

It allows any browser to interact with it.

If you checked the list above, you have probably noticed that .crypto, .dao, .nft, .blockchain, .x are not on it.

When I noticed this, I was curious about why this was. And found out through another forum that unstoppable domains uses a gateway. This made me go like:

"Oh obvious, they use a gateway. You need to use the extension or set a custom dns resolver in your browser settings."

This is the same as people did in the early 2000's. If you are good with computers you could even have your own browser (or all devices on your wifi) redirect you to some custom page when someone looks up google.com. Pihole for example uses this technique to block ads. Your phone requests an ad, and Pihole is like "woops this ad server does not exist, bye bye ads".

This is obviously a bit of a uhm... shit situation.

The Danger of this is that when the ICANN (company giving out top level domains) starts giving out .x, .nft, .crypto, .dao top level domains to other companies, is that there will be conflicts between the domains. Someone else could basically buy the exact same domain as you, but have it supported by all browsers without extensions.

So what is the strategy of unstoppable domains?

I really don't know for sure. But we can obviously make a guess.

In the best case scenario, they keep trying to get their hands on those top level domains. It currently feels like they failed claiming it thus far. But that they are trying to get as many users as possible on their hands so that the ICANN can't sell the top level domains to someone else without causing chaos on the internet. Basically keeping the domains hostage.

If someone else gets the top level domain, buys all the second-level domains that are already claimed. So in example.crypto, "example" is the second-level domain.

This is expensive as hell tho, as you might understand, someone that owns .crypto can basically ask infinite money for all the second-level domains as Unstoppa

Top-level domain

Is there any advantage in using a .dk, .se or similar if you live in those countries (especially EU) instead of .com, .xyz or whatever from USA for example?

And is it any advantage to buy the domain from a local registrar, e.g. Loopia or ONE, instead from the US, e.g. Porkbun?

Mining pool "dxpool" changed their top level domain from com to net--announced via Twitter

I learned about this change when investigating a 100% drop in hashrate last night on my Goldshell KD Box miner. I thought they abandoned the business, because the previous URL simply returned a 404 error. I started looking for causes and confirmation when I noticed that whattomine dropped the dxpool with the com TLD as an available pool and I found other hints of trouble, but I eventually tried my luck with the alternate <dot>net TLD part of the domain name. That fixed my problem. By that time, I already converted the miner over to use poolflare. That seems to be working fine for me. I was able to use the net TLD for dxpool in my browser to transfer my remaining crypto to my wallet. I hope this info may be useful to someone else who did not notice the terse tweet that the dxpool company sent. They call the new URL their "alternative" official web site, not mentioning that the previous domain was terminated without warning. Maybe something was lost in translation?

A word of caution about that unique top level domain

Though my last name is not all that common (ranks in the 7000-8000 in world popularity), it is by no means rare. That is why I was super stoked when I picked up lastname.family top level domain... It was something that I can use, keep, give to my kids and pass on....

I have been attempting to migrate everything to it and ditch Gmail which I have had for ~17 years. This is where the largest problem has arisen.

Many companies computer systems do not yet accept a .family email address

So far I have been forced to keep in my old email on file with several larger banks, utility companies and some web services. I am only on day 1 and I have seen about a 25% rejection rate. Not good.

I can only hope over time this will be corrected.

Edit The rejection is in the inputting of the domain into the system as u/ponytoster said perfectly. The email itself is hosted VIA Gsuite

Extract top-level-domain from email address

Hi,

I'm using Python to try an extract the top level domain from email address.

Examples:

Email What I want
[email protected] com
[email protected] com
[email protected] co.uk
[email protected] co.za

What I have tried: @([\w.]+)

This gives me everything after the @.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Top level domain and country specific search.

Hello everyone.
There are many different top level domains such as .ai .io .earth ....
I chose .earth for my business but am worried that I won't appear in the search results because it's not country specific?
Whats the criteria for the google search when you select a country – I guess the domain?
It's a B2C business selling F&E only in one country.

Thanks for you input!!
