Hybrid vehicle owners have to pay an extra $100. As a hybrid driver, I think that fee cancels out all the money I save from buying less gas. So we have zero economic incentive to buy more fuel efficient vehicles. I'll continue buying hybrids or EVs because I care about the environment, but I have to imagine some people's buying decisions are affected by these stupid policies.
A lot of industries are demonized and many of the criticisms are valid. You, dear commenter, are one of the beneficiaries of these industries. I want your raw perspective. I want to read the nuance - or lack thereof. Thanks for sharing:)
I always go into Saks Off 5th because you really never know what youβre going to get. A few months ago I went in and found a pair of Edward Green Cadogan oxfords on sale for $325. So this past Sunday I walked in with the hopes of finding something else good since I knew the chances of finding another pair of EGβs would be tiny.
Well sure enough, on my way out of the shoe section I saw a single suede shoe that i recognized missing itβs inner heel pad and without a price. They were the Edward Green Dovers! The super nice associate (rare at SO5) checked the back of the store and came out with the other shoe that was marked at $1176 - out of my budget! But then he was like, well theyβve been here for a while so let me see what I can do. He comes back and tells me theyβre down for $99.99. I couldnβt believe it. Of course I said thank you as calmly as I could, and promptly grabbed them out of his hands. I have a feeling he was bored and saw I was interested and just changed the price for me lol.
Wanted to share the story but here are some details:
The shoes themselves are gorgeous and the suede does in fact feel like top of the line stuff. It has a buttery feel and very tight texture. EG says on their site they only use hides with βunsplit skinsβ to retain structure and shape. The apron is stunning and the split toe, made with a boarβs bristle is extremely elegant and unique since the stitching is not clearly visible. I love the fact that these are unlined which makes them soft and light. Plus the details on the interior is stunning. Stitching and QC is all flawless as well. I also admire that leather interlining that EG uses between the inner and outer part of the shell. It gives the shoe structure and shape.
The last on this pair is the 202 which is roomy, yet they feel a bit narrower and sleeker than my Cadogans which are also on the 202. My Cadogans are a UK8.5 and these are labeled 9/9.5E yet they feel similar. I think my favorite design element is the heel which has a wonderful shape and curve that cups the heel in place. Despite these being probably a half size bigger than what I would buy if given the option, I donβt have any heel slippage when I walk in them.
The sole is made of rubber which is a lot more functional and practical compared to leather. Their leather soles are fantastic but these will probably last a lot longer and are also lighter.
At the end of the day, this is the GY fansβs equivalent of
... keep reading on reddit β‘I keep forgetting to take my nicotine patch off before bed. I'm on "Step 2.5" (Essentially Step 3, but I've been cutting the Step 2's in half with a pair of scissors to save money.)
It's led to some very trippy dreams, and my partner being worried for me on occasion based on the noises I was making in my sleep. Among these dreams have included:
I hope this message helps encourage you to quit tobacco, try out nicotine patches, and either remove them or leave them on before bed at your own discretion.
Ran out of tobacco but would like to try some herbal alternatives, got a couple friends whoβve had lavender and mint leaf in a joint, any of you guys tried anything cool or have any recommendations?
I must have gotten hooked at about 14. I couldnβt by it and I wouldnβt ask anyone else to do it for me so I just started stealing it. Never a noticeable amount, and only when observers were impossible. I always knew exactly where all my coworkers who dipped were and what there habits were at all times. Stealing was most of the fun. I never got caught and nobody ever suspected that I dipped. If I was ever offered some Iβd reject it or make a show of being sick. I had rules Iβd follow, like it could never take more than 15 seconds until I was away from location of a can with an easily observable reason for being there in the first place. I would plan my whole day around those 15 seconds, putting myself In the position to be put in the position by the boss where I could have the highest probability of sneaking a pinch without being observed. I feel guilty about this now. We were all pretty good companions and It feels like I betrayed them pretty hard. It did have its benefits though. I usually know exactly where everyone and everything is as well as a comparatively good prediction skill wrt what people are thinking and what small stimuli would probably make them do x. Honestly Iβm embarrassed and ashamed that I did it but proud of the artfulness with which I did it.
Am I the only one?
There's the taste and the room note. But there's also the smell of the fresh leaf itself.
You might notice it while packing. But there's a lot to be said for holding that pouch or can to your nose, closing your eyes and inhaling the aroma.
I see this as the tobacco equivalent of smelling a glass of wine before you sip. It's a part of the overall experience and adds a special little something to the pipe smoking routine.
Who's with me on this?
I understand the reasoning for not allowing big tobacco to advertise on t.v. or radio etc due to their history of crazy, misleading and outright outrageous history of marketing..however, it appears that alcohol companies have free reign on how they can market their products. Joe Camel was a big targeting point when the litigation was happening during the big tobacco advertising case saying that "cartoon characters were targeting children", yet just a few years later, Budweiser was allowed to create the famous Budweiser frogs and that was one of my favourite commericial series as a 10 yr old child.
It seems that big tobacco became the scapegoat product to hate, but booze, which is arguably a bigger problem within American society, can continue to do as they please. Budweiser and Jack Daniel's commercials are just as misleading, if not more so as big tobacco. Hell, I was even allowed to go on a tour of Anhueser Busch at the age of 12 with my uncle..if that's not marketing toward children, I don't know what is..could you imagine if Phillip Morris allowed children to tour a cigarette plant?
Both products are extremely harmful to people and society, but singling one out while glamourizing the other is just asinine.
Curious to see what your answers are!

When it does finally move into the U.S. cannabis market, Tilray wouldnβt be opposed to partnering with alcohol companies, Big Tobacco or other giants in CPG, which Simon said are eyeing the cannabis category for its potential to cannibalize some of their business.
βTime will tell which is the right one that we will partner with, whether we'll strategically do something with. And I think there's going to be the right opportunities for us when that happens,β he said.
