Edit - sunlight is overrated
You're either a lover of the bright orb or not. I lived in Cali too long with not enough rainy days that didn't cause chaos. Places where it's rain, gray skies, and thunderstorms all the time has a certain ambience that is romantic and appealing. I'm also a water baby and love to stay indoors or walk in the rain, so there's that.
I just had a conversation with my dad last week about how long it’s been since Winnipeg has had a proper thunderstorm. I can’t remember any notable ones like this one happening last year. He agreed with my sisters and I and we talked about how much we hoped for one to happen soon.
He passed away early this morning and I can’t help but know this one is thanks to him.
Felt the need to share. I’m in the Saint-Boniface area, so not sure how many of us it’s actually hitting yet. But if you love em as much as we do, I hope you get to enjoy the storm.
EDIT: I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who has said a kind word or interacted with this post in any way; it’s been absolutely overwhelming to say the least. My sisters and family are so touched by this; so truly from the bottom of my heart: thank you. And to those who have also lost their dad, whether recent or not, I’m sending you all my love as well. Words can’t describe how this feels, but there is strength in numbers. Thank you.
Someone enlighten me!
I'm hoping it's loud and lasts all night.
well, one commenter earlier called it. He doesn't believe me.
He shuffled in, looked at the interior and exterior box, said it couldn't possibly be arcing bc he didn't see any burn marks. He suggested I could be seeing lightning from outside (yeah, bc lightning makes a loud POP and superb bright light from INSIDE MY HOUSE). I insisted that this is NOT lightning. He suggested I get my phone and try to record it (without getting electrocuted, I suppose).
And yes, this is from a highly reviewed company, which basically means nothing, because tradesmen are a complete crapshoot.
Oh, and there is no grounding to the sub box in question and the house ground is the water main.
EDIT: some additional info and responses to other questions
-when/after this happens, the power stays connected. It's not blowing a breaker afaik
-We had gfci outlets installed anywhere that didn't have them not long after we moved in.
-I researched pigtailing the wiring in the past and it seemed like reviews were mixed as to whether this actually makes the wiring safer so we didn't do it.
-IIRC, only one or two 'branches' in our home still have aluminum, but I could be wrong.
-It's hard to say exactly the moment it happens. Every time I've noticed it it's been a bad thunder storm so there's wind, lightning, and thunder claps all around. It's always so unexpected when it happens that it's just hard to say.
-an electrician is coming tomorrow. I called a bigger ish company that has multiple reviews, we'll see if that means anything. The last guy we hired was not the 'cheap guy', we hired who the Alabama Power tech recommend and we didn't ask questions about price until it was over. We were prepared to pay what it costs.
LASTLY, no everloving shit it's not normal. I know that. 🤦
ORIGINAL POST: .... Because that's what happens at our house.
A 'pop' followed by an immediate blindingly bright flash of light. I'm always in the other room when it happens so I can't see where on the box it comes from.
I live in the southeast US, some of our circuits are aluminum but not all, (house built 1971) & we had an electrician come look at it & he said he 'tightened connections' and that was all that was needed.
It just happened again (it's storming now) so obviously he didn't fix it. What do?
Tomorrow is a very important election for the city. Regardless of your political views we encourage you all to not let the adverse weather prevent you from casting that ballot. Thunderstorms come in at 10AM and will be around all day. If you can get out early, get out there as early as you can. Find your polling location here and remember to VOTE tomorrow.
Bron been out with an ankle injury. Maybe a return of Bron and AD is imminent. The King will be back with a vengeance. Now here’s the quote again just so I can reach the minimum word count:
> The weatherman says the weather is changing soon and it predicts a thunderstorm ⛈ ☔️ is coming. Folks prepare and take the proper caution
