Biggest instances of fans playing telephone and assuming fan theory was canon?

My example is Dawn of War: Soulstorm the third expansion for the first Dawn of War Game. where the canon ending was left ambigious for 9 years, While we did learn in DoW2 that the Space Marines didn't win, that still left 8 other armies who could have been the canon victor of Soulstorm.

However a large subsect of fans (mostly imperial guard fans) began spreading rumors that the canon victor was General Vance Stubbs of the Imperial Guard, a commander notable for "losing" 100 Baneblades (for those who don't know 40k a baneblade is giant tank and one of the most powerful vehicles in the Imperial Guard army) but who also became something of a dark horse among Imperial Guard fans due to being something of an underdog. This rumor became so accepted by fans that when Dawn of War 3 revealed the canon winner of the conflict in Soulstorm to be Ork Warboss Gorgutz 'Ead Unter, Relic Entertainment was accused of "retconning" the victory of the Imperial Guard.

It didn't help that the Imperial Guar

Biweekly Telephone Game v3 (232)

This is a game of borrowing and loaning words! To give our conlangs a more naturalistic flair, this game can help us get realistic loans into our language by giving us an artificial-ish "world" to pull words from!

The Telephone Game will be posted every Monday and Friday maybe usually when I remember but these last few months have been rough and I can’t always remember so go easy on me.

###Rules

  1. Post a word in your language, with IPA and a definition.

Note: try to show your word inflected, as it would appear in a typical sentence. This can be the source of many interesting borrowings in natlangs (like how so many Arabic words were borrowed with the definite article fossilized onto it! algebra, alcohol, etc.)

  1. Respond to a post by adapting the word to your language's phonology, and consider shifting the meaning of the word a bit!

  2. Sometimes, you may see an interesting phrase or construction in a language. Instead of adopting the word as a loan word, you are welcome to **cal

>When I first announced that I was going to publish a magazine, β€œWhere are you going to get the money?” was volleyed at me from all sides. I did not know, but I was certain of its coming somehow. Equally important was moral support. Those same young friends and I founded a little society, grandly titled the National Birth Control League, sought aid from enthusiasts for other causes, turning first to the Feminists because they seemed our natural allies. Armed with leaflets we went to Cooper Union to tell them that in the Woman Rebel they would have an opportunity to express their sentiments.

I desperately want to see our dear friend Matthew regale the tale of one time when a Very Sweet Bird got in trouble at school in HupperdeΓΌk for starting a fight, or more accurately, for defending a friend from bullies.

Completely from Kiri's point of view, of course. Quoting as many people as necessary to get her points across, including the MIX.

It would be incredibly difficult for the others to replicate, coupled with the distraction of how adorable Kiri Schuster is and how proud they are of her.

Biweekly Telephone Game v3 (227)

What happened the first time I answered the unit telephone.

While I wait for a ruling by biker jedi on my secret service adventures, I thought I would relate what I call my mini Forest Gump moments. In the summer of 72 I arrived at Edgewood arsenal Maryland fresh from AIT. I had been instructed on how to answer the phone: 149th ordinance disposal specialist Miller speaking. A voice claiming to be a AT&T supervisor identified herself and said " stand by for colonel somebody from the Maryland state police.

Apparently major rain storms had filled a dam to the point of imminent failure. Just downstream there was a huge complete section of underwater road tunnel. The fear was that if the dam broke, it would float downstream and threaten to destroy 5 major highway and railroad bridges.

We were required to set explosive charges designed to sink the tunnel section. By allowing water to fill the pipe.

After assembling the entire unit and loading all the c-4 and shape charges in our bunker off we went. Eight guys in a van full of explosives

I made an alt because this is sketchy, so I can only post this here. The government (DEA, ICE, and local authorities) is hiding cameras on telephone poles, and then not securing those cameras with passwords. Anyone can access them.

Updates at the bottom about cameras going offline.

Also, Photo gallery time:

Reddittor flips off surveillance camera in Freeport, NY. Also picture of Camera

Redditor takes pictures of Framingham, MA Camera.

Someone (the government) is spying on us with hidden cameras. They aren’t even password protected.

So, I was just browsing looking at unsecured webcams the other day, as one does, when I came across these controllable cameras with really weird perspectives. Next, I noticed they seem to be in a box with glass on three sides, with large stickers reading β€œDANGER, HIGH VOLTAGE” on two of the sides. I have found at least 9 of these cameras, and one that literally has a β€œdrug Enforcement Agency” label printed on the inside.

Things that make me believe this is the government:

-Super high quality cameras. A peeping tom would probab

Had a telephone interview today...

Mind you, I interviewed with this very same company about 2 1/2 years ago for a different position. The female interviewer in her late 20's was very rude. She never smiled and acted bothered by just being there. Upon walking me out there was no "Thanks for coming in." or even the attempt of a handshake. I had to initiate that as she followed me out of the building. Today my interview was for 12:30pm, and guess what? They're 20 minutes late. What would happen if I showed up 20 minutes late for an in-person interview with them? I think chances are I wouldn't be hired. I might not even be seen at that point. The hypocrisy is astounding. Needless to say, should the call come, it'll be pushed to voicemail and not returned. My time is valuable, too.

Telephone Witnessing....

..makes me feel dirty AF Honestly it's such a huge breach of privacy.

I did some obligatory telephone witnessing this weekend and was pissed off for the rest of the weekend.

We aren't actually doing anything for these people. We aren't helping them in any way. In many cases we're just being a nuisance. Think of yourself....if some fucking rando called you out of the blue claiming to want to teach you about God.

I guess I am just venting because I gotta force myself to talk to ppl about shit I don't believe in. But do these people know that literally a group of strangers are discussing their phonecalls? Fuck me

Does anybody have a telephone job?

I was wondering if anyone here has a job where they have to regularly speak on the phone?

I’m currently trying to get out of my retail job into something more career-based. Most of the job adverts I see require answering the phone (something I’m deathly afraid of). I got a job in a call centre a few months ago, I quit during the training because I was that scared. My worry is that my stutter makes me sound unprofessional.

If you do have a telephone job. Is it really that scary? Does it get easier over time? How have you dealt with stuttering over the phone? Have managers/bosses mentioned your stutter? Is the person you’re on the phone to wary of your stutter?

Thank youπŸ‘

UK Landline Telephone For Home Server

Hi, I hope this is the correct sub for this question.

I find myself in the unusual position of needing a UK landline telephone connection but, because I live on a boat, not being able to obtain one.

The landline connection is so that I can home-host a web service which, for reasons of security, I would rather not host with a co-location or dedicated server provider.

I have mobile broadband of course, but a static IP address is not a service provided by EE, Vodafone etc and I would have to use a third-party static IP provider, for which the costs are astronomical - approx Β£15 per GB of data transfer with horrific overuse penalties. They don’t appear to do β€œpay as you go” deals.

Another idea was to piggyback off a friend’s/relative’s existing landline, but that was a non-starter due to boomer fear of technology.

I have been looking at the idea of shared office space (expensive) but what I really need is a lockable broom cupboard with a dedicated landline (i.e. not working through th
