Is this really a reasonable placement of a huge apartment building? If I look at satellite images on google maps, I can't make out a house in that location. The building forces a 3-4 degree glideslope which is more than the prescribed 2.5 degrees for the viper.
It also creates a pretty challenging/hazardous approach, which I think would not be tolerated on a military airfield IRL. You might, at some point, have battle-damaged or malfunctioning aircraft on emergency landings needing to use a more shallow approach.
What do you think? Anyone know if it reflects reality?
I was thinking about buying the syria map, but I have read a lot of people are having performance issues.
So far I can run caucasus at max settings without a single problem.
My specs are: Nvidia RTX 2060 Intel iCore 7, 9th gen 16 GB Ram
I'd like to know your opinion, should I buy it or should I pass, if so, would the persian gulf be a good alternative?
Thank you for your time,
I love how the Syria map in DCS looks like due to the great variety of landscapes it has, but I've heard a lot that for some people it is unplayable because of the huge amount of RAM it consumes and the constant stuttering it has. Some say that 32GB of RAM is the minimum required to play it.
My question is wether it's playable or not. Does limiting the preload radius work? Is it mandatory to set the terrain textures to "low" to enjoy the map? Thanks.
P.S. I've got an i59600K, RTX 2060 and 16GB of RAM.
I'm running on a ryzen 5 3600, gtx 1060 6gb, with 16gb of ram, singleplayer.
In the Persian gulf map I usually get a solid 60 sometimes drops into the 50s but always very playable
I know Syria had issues but is it still the same?

I've been debating it. It looks like a neat map but my impression is that content is still quite limited since it's so new. Plus I hardly ever fire up NTTR, not sure if I want to buy terrain that will go unused.
What is the size (GB) of the Syria map? I wanted to know if I needed to free some space in my SSD. thank you in advance!
If you are looking for content on the new Syria map, you should consider trying the all new version of DCS Liberation : https://github.com/Khopa/dcs_liberation/releases/tag/2.1.0
DCS Liberation is an external program that generate and manage a SP (or COOP) turn based semi-dynamic campaign for DCS World. It support all map (including Syria) and almost all modules.
It still is a bit rough around the edges and far from being a perfect professional product, but a few people are already enjoying it, so maybe you will as well.
Title; anyone else experiencing this? Both in sp and mp (mainly mp)
Using the Mi8 or Huey delivering aids to camps and transporting aid workers around with the war going on around you.
So far this has happened to me twice, once while joining a large private server and once in the ME. Both times Syria was the map. The first time as soon as I loaded into the server DCS memory usage jumped to 25gb and my PC crashed because other things were using up the remaining 7gb (which seemed high). This happened every time I tried to join the server. No one else (20+ people) had the issue and I could join the growling sidewinder server with 30+ people in it just fine. The second time I was working in the ME for about 2hr and suddenly everything stopped working except for the curser being able to move. When it froze task manager showed 26gb usage for DCS and normal usage for the other programs open. Both times my page file commit was full as well.
