I've been looking for a soft/dusty pink comfortable sweatshirt for the past month that's not $200 and slim fit. Sounds easy enough, right? Well, I found out the hard way that it's not as easily obtainable as I thought it should. I tried the independent trading company premium 450GM. It was way too boxy of a fit (to my taste, would work if you like a more oversized / workwear vibe) and it was not soft. The fabric may soften up with a bunch of washes but who has the time for that.
I was considering the Todd Snyder x Champion midweight sweatshirt after reading glowing reviews here but it didn't come in the color I wanted. If you're on the market by the way, some colors are on sale right now. I also looked into Reigning Champ and they only come in black, grey and white.
For a hot second, I was considering buying a white sweatshirt and dyeing it. After a thorough dive into r/dyeing, I've come to realize that it requires a lot of expertise to pull a good die based on technique, method, recognizing the fibers and pinpointing the right brand of die. Now, I'm 31, I dress in a minimalistic vibe: no graphics on my clothes, I just play with cuts, colors (hence my obsession with this specific color at the moment) and materials. Nothing ever too loud and I value quality over anything else. Visiting the A&F website was very out of character but I remembered this sweatshirt I had back in high school that I loved so I thought, why not. I was so happy I found the color I was looking for, but even more so because I could reserve the sweatshirt in store (aka not ship it (trying to not add to my carbon footprint unnecessarily / try it before I shows up on my credit card statement).
So I head to the mall, walk in (admittedly a bit shamefully) and guess what? It was the perfect sweatshirt for me, and it was $55 (instead of 100/150 for the other brands). It's super soft, warm, has a really nice slim fit cut that hugs the body without being too tight, and the color is just what I wanted. I could have gone for the hoodie and it would have been $25 (they're on sale).
I'm primarily posting to put this sweatshirt on your radar if you're looking for something similar because if som... keep reading on reddit ➡
