At the armed #BLM march this afternoon in north Portland that intimidated a residential area, the extremists smashed up an occupied car on the road. Attacks on drivers by rioters is commonplace in Portland.

The African American community has the Asian American community and America by the balls

If Asian speak up against the racism and crime committed against Asians, African Americans and BLM see this as Asians trying to upstage the African American progressive movement. Black community has the spotlight and news on attacks on Asians make the black community look bad, therefore there will be more attacks on Asians because "they deserve it", "coronavirus", and "it's not racism because we hate them, but because they are easy targets".

If Asians don't speak up against Asians getting attacked, this will be seen as weakness and the attacks will further intensify. It's a lose - lose situation and a vicious cycle. The more Asians protest against racism againt Asians, the more attacks there will be because people think Asians are trying to distract the world from BLM, and if the people who do attack Asians will further make the African American community look bad. ' A disingenious statement made by racist blacks is "not all black people are attacking Asians" or "not all the criminals attacking are black". That is true that not all the criminals are black and not all the victims are Asians. By saying not all the criminals are black, it is a zero sum game where it excuse the crime. A vast majority of attacks are from African Americans, with some spread out with racist white (San Jose subway attack), Hispanics (pushing lady in Flushing and Olivia Munn got involved), Arab (dude stab an Asian outside a federal courthouse because he didn't like the way the Asian guy looked at him), etc. By saying not all criminals are black doesn't equate to Asians are not getting attacked at all.

Because the Asian American community is in the death spiral with criminals, where the criminal will just go to jail and get released while an Asian elderly person dies. It makes lives look worthless. A murder is nothing more than petty crime. Other communities don't care, the African American community don't care because it's not them dying when Asian elders are dying.

But, the criminals and Asian elders dying is similar to police brutality against African Americans. In that cycle, a police officer will kill intentionally or unintentionally an African American. The police will just go to jail or may get bail and not go to jail, but a live is lost. That is why African Americans are mad, because black people are getting killed by the police. But because of double standards, Asian Americans aren't allowed to grief or be mad when their elders are openly attacked and getting killed.

Fantasy Silicon Valley Subway

Hello everyone,

Many Bay Area residents, including myself, think San Jose and Silicon Valley are underwhelmingly suburban and lacking of culture and entertainment, especially given that this place is the tech capital of the world.

Because of this, I pretended to be almighty Governor, planner, and treasurer of the state of California and designed a map for a subway system that would turn this large, boring suburb into a bustling, world-class metropolis.

Here's the link: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=12mb8ofTmykW_4-aGvl0YRk42TIlvCGWp&usp=sharing

There are currently 17 lines serving 205 stations and the total system length is between 200 and 250 miles. For reference, the NYC Subway has 36 lines serving 424 stations with a system length of 248 miles.

Average speed of the trains including stops would be 25-30 mph which means that you could get from Diridon/DTSJ to pretty much anywhere in the South Bay (not including Palo Alto and beyond) within 20 mins or so. A train on the Mathilda or Lawrence line would take about 40 mins to get from Lockheed Transit Center in north Sunnyvale to Eastridge Transit Center in East San Jose.

I left Caltrain, BART, and the future CA HSR off the map to reduce clutter. Also, the northwestern termini of the Silicon Valley and Foothill lines would meet up with the revived Dumbarton Rail in East Palo Alto and Redwood City, respectively.

I'm planning to add a few more lines and stations but I'm not sure where so I would like to get some input from you guys. Also, let me know if you think I should modify any of the current routes or stations.

All in all, a system like this would probably cost around $100 billion to build. This sounds like a lot of money but if California were to implement a carbon tax of over $100 per metric ton like there is in several European countries, we could raise enough money to build a system like this in each of the major metro areas in California within a decade.

This would greatly reduce both car dependency and pollution in Silicon Valley and California as a whole, along with boosting our economy and allowing a lot more housing to be built without clogging up the roads.

Fun fact: the South Bay is about the same geographic size as Brooklyn and Queens combined (~160 sq mi). Population of the South Bay is about 1.6 million, while Brooklyn and Queens is 4.8 million.

Anyway, I could go on a

COVID-19 Transit Impact Roundup US/Canada 2021-March

The new normal. I'm posting these with a historical intent. Links where possible, and let me know if your local is missing. Updates will be slower as the pandemic continues to take their toll.

(Updated Mar 11 due to feedback, thanks for chiming in!)

NOTE: MOST AGENCIES ARE ASKING FOR ESSENTIAL TRAVEL ONLY -- MEDICAL AND SUPPLY RUNS, JOB TRANSIT FOR THOSE WHO PROVIDE THOSE SERVICES. ALL ASK YOU TO WEAR A MASK, BUT SOME REQUIRE IT! Schedules have changed radically. Always check sites for more info. This is only a summary!

😷 😷 😷 Just assume you need to wear a mask and check the schedules. No exceptions. 😷 😷 😷

Key:

  • πŸ†“ FREE RIDE! (Likely board in back)
  • πŸ’΅ Reduced fare for recovery.
  • ⚠️ Changes expected soon.
  • 🚧 Agency working on construction projects during pandemic.
  • πŸ•’ Long term schedule change being enacted
  • 🎫 Ticket proraiting/partial refunds available!
  • 🧴 Use hand sanitizer on boarding
  • πŸ’° Radical service reductions being floated due to budget reduction
  • πŸ“ž On-demand service for all

Please note, operating changes outside of the schedules are rather common. Reduced capacity and skip-stops are implemented on some systems. Some have fully changed their schedule for long-term and thus are "full service" but not back to pre-pandemic service. Some systems have changed their site to make it harder to make a determination of service level.

πŸ›‘ Some states are enacting travel quarantines. Check your destination state if you are traveling across state lines.

If the agency has a pass app or tap card, please pay for the ride through it -- it helps to stop the spread! Also, most agencies are using Transit to help with getting routing changes out to people.

Country-wide

AMTRAK: Covid-19 info 🚧 πŸ•’

Note: All long distance trains (except Auto Train) will switch to Flexible Dining menus until further notice. Cafe service is take-out only (no dining in Cafe car). Some Cafe service is suspended.

Salsa Recipe

Yesterday I wrote a post that mentioned homemade salsa and someone requested the recipe. Well, I'm new to Reddit and it as it happens was unable to find a subreddit for salsa recipes (someone should really remedy this). I thought I wouldn't be able to post it, but u/ Acid_Fetish_Toy was kind enough to explain I could put it here.

Edgar from Colombia and the Salsa Recipe

A while back I worked for a company that supplied locum tenens to places all over the US. It was a great job and I met a lot of good people. (Luckily, Beloved's job sent him all over the place and he could be based anywhere. Or nowhere.)

While working in San Jose I buddied up with Michelle, who also did that kind of work. She was just giving the West Coast a try as she really preferred the NY area and once her SJ contract was up she decided to go back there.

We stayed in touch and a few months later Beloved and I ended up paying a visit to the city, so Michelle and I decided to have dinner and catch up. Beloved was going to be hanging out with Uncle Ray that night so he went on his way and with only a bobble or two (I knew nothing about that area/city) I found my way to Michelle's apartment. Only to find she had been called in to work and was on the way out the door.

Luckily, just then there was a pounding on the door and a savior in the form of a guy named Edgar from Colombia poked his head in to ask if Michelle wanted to go eat Colombian food. Obviously she couldn't, but she suggested I go.

Edgar from Colombia: You like Colombian food?

Me: Sure!

I had never had Colombian food in my life, but how different could it be from Mexican food? Right?

Off we go. Since I had no clue where we were, or where we were going I just followed along on and off the subway until we ended up in front of a little hole in the wall Colombian grocery. In the back of the grocery was a little room with a couple of picnic tables where they served family style.

The food was wonderful, the people were great and very friendly, the music was loud and I only had to stab one guy in the hand with my fork. There was eating and dancing and laughter and all in all it was a good time.

So good, I didn't even notice when the store up front closed. At some point I finally heard my mobile and answered. The conversation went something like this.

Beloved: What are you doing?

Eating Colombian food.

Beloved: What?

The Tragedy and Comedy of the Asian Right

So I noticed a very interesting phenomena. If you take a look at the more extreme "Chinese" subs like r/chonglangTV and r/saraba1st they're essentially all right wing, pro-Trump, anti-China media. Many Asians, especially from the boomer cohort, are Trump supporters even if they never stepped foot in the US - Trump is so popular in Vietnam of all places, they named a cafe after him . We can all see how many people from our parent's generation are foolish Trump supporters with a cursory glance at wenxuecity.com or Chinese American WeChat groups (which have opinions totally opposite that of Chinese WeChat groups). Then there's FLG.

They don't seem to find the simultaneous support of white nationalists who tell them to go back to be an issue. They don't seem to worry about being beat up or robbed by racists. At the same time, they also find no problem in cutting ties with their home countries so now they have nowhere to go if things get bad. At most, when they get beat up or robbed they'll cry about how they aren't "really" Chinese or something.

Even worse, on wenxuecity.com the Chinese boomer generation are actively discouraging AMWF, support WMAF, support Trump, hating on BLM, etc. They even told an actual Chinese American 2nd gen to shut the fuck up and stop exposing their hypocrisy. They accused him of being a "larper" because his Chinese was too good!!!

You know what's funny? All the victims of anti-Asian racism so far have been Vietnamese, Japanese, etc. I remember a while back a Hong Konger who drove Uber was literally crying on camera because he was subject to racism from white customers, while he kept calling mainlanders slurs on video. Then he took his channel down when he got exposed. The only people who got arrested for fraud were FLG cronies and associates of Miles Kwok - everyone else walked lol. It is clear that their strategy of being as self hating as possible is not working in their favor, yet they're doubling, tripling down on it.

This is the t

The Least Interesting Thing to Happen to Me While Reading Kerouac

This is less about Kerouac, and more about myself while reading Kerouac, so TLDR at the bottom for any who prefer a quick one sentence summary... This is a short story, as the title suggests, about the least interesting thing that’s happened to me while reading Kerouac. I’ve experienced a lot of crazy things while reading his books, which have kept me reading, and I'm recording them for myself by writing about them- this one is the quickest (easiest to write about and share)- the rest are more involved, but I may share them eventually.

The Least Interesting Thing to Happen to Me While Reading Kerouac

California, June 2018

My day started at 5 a.m. with one of the Vasquez brothers dropping me off at the Coliseum BART subway station, which I took to West Oakland where I waited alone in the cold and darkness of the early morning street corner- wearing my Osprey bag stuffed with clothes and some of Jack’s books- watching with aching tired eyes my spectral exhale hover silently across the green tinted road turning yellow, then red, and my earlier nervousness subsiding in a cough as a couple other passengers arrived with luggage to start forming a line, reassuring me I was in the right spot to catch my double-decker bus to Anaheim. After thirty minutes of each new arrival asking if the line was the right line, the bus arrived and began checking names and stowing luggage according to destination, and soon we boarded to join the passengers that had been picked up in San Francisco. I took a seat on the second story and pulled out my travel essentials- earplugs, neck pillow, and a beanie to pull over my eyes- and was so tired that I very quickly woke up with my head against the window, the bus having stopped in San Jose at dawn to pick up the last of the Bay Area passengers before continuing to Southern California. I looked down at the line beginning to board and wondered who, if anyone, would sit next to me- some people leave a bag on the seat next to them, which can be rude and awkward when seats are clearly needed, but I like meeting people- just because I’m quiet doesn’t mean I’m shy, and besides, maybe one of the cute girls in line would sit next to me, or perhaps a drifter with cool stories like last time. But no such luck this day, the stranger with a slight accent who politely asked for the seat next to mine was a young man in his early twenties, around eight years younger than me, with dark hair and eyes like my own- still, anyone polite is very

Salt Lake City Baseball - 1959 (Year 5)

It's 1959, year five of Salt Lake City Baseball, where we take the small budget Salt Lake City Alpines of the United Baseball Association and help them become a perennial playoff contender - with house rules stacking the odds against us.

1958 Recap

Here's full write-up's of previous seasons: 1955, 1956, 1957, 1958

After improving our win totals in for two consecutive years, we missed the mark in '58, going 61-101 with some disappointing performances by players we brought in via free agency as well as a starting pitcher we traded an absolute stud prospect for. With some poor luck in the draft lottery, we haven't added a true game-changing prospect despite being terrible. But this is meant to be tough - let's see what we're working with to make 1959 more successful.

The Offseason

As usual, we start off with our house rule of figuring out our allotment of 50-plus-rated free agent acquisitions and trades for the season. This year, things change up a bit, as we're only allowed one 50+ free agent, but can make four trades.

We have three team options to consider, four players about to be free agents, and a whopping TWENTY arbitration cases. Our payroll budget is going to be right around $40M, and we're already at about $48M assuming we pick up the options and sign the arbitration players. Let's get to work.

We start with the options - three players we signed in free agency last year - SS Rich Reynaga, RP Sal Sosa, and 3B Jaylin Burnett.

Reynaga would save us about $2.2M, and while he was solid on defense, his offense wasn't great and his age means his strength is probably going to go downhill. Our scout agrees, so we decline his option. Sosa underperformed his 3.93 FIP with an ERA of 5.82, but we'll save about $3.7M letting him go. I'm not willing to spend that money to hope he gets luckier next year, and the his BABIP didn't seem to be the driver of the poor performance. Burnett is a different story, a switch-hitter who hit over .300 from both sides of the plate. While there's no power to speak of, he can play all of the skill positions in the infield and is only going to cost us $3M - with the savings fro

What A Day: Castor Of None by Sarah Lazarus & Crooked Media (02/09/21)

"Vampires have more heart than Ted Cruz” - Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH), fake-angrily reading Neera Tanden's true tweets

Playing Fast And Bruce

The unprecedented second Senate impeachment trial of disgraced former president Donald Trump has begun, with the first day’s proceedings focused on the constitutionality of the trial itselfβ€”or on the unrivaled radiance of U.S. senators, depending on when you happened to tune in.

  • Lead impeachment manager Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) kicked off the opening arguments by summing up the absurdity of the question at hand: β€œTheir argument is that if you commit an impeachable offense in your last few weeks in office, you do it with constitutional impunity.” House managers wasted no time before playing a 13-minute video of the violence on January 6 juxtaposed against Trump’s remarks egging on the mob, before launching into historical precedents for trying former officials, and citing conservative legal scholars who have argued that Trump’s post-presidency trial is constitutionally kosher.

  • In their final brief on Tuesday, House managers asserted, generously, that Trump’s lawyers were relying on β€œflawed legal theories” and trying to dump the full blame onto his supporters because they had β€œno good defense” for his incitement of an insurrection. Trump attorney Bruce Castor, best known for refusing to prosecute Bill Cosby, promptly proved them wrong by spending much of his opening speech rambling about, uh, how smart and beautiful senators are. Even Alan Dershowitz, who’s never met a bad legal argument he couldn’t happily make worse, thought Castor tanked it.

String of Attacks Against Older Asians Leaves Big City Chinatowns on Edge - Media Agnostic on Race of People Attacking Asians - (NBC) 10 Feb 2021

https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/national-international/string-of-attacks-against-older-asians-leaves-big-city-chinatowns-on-edge/2464204/

Violence, robberies and burglaries have some Asian Americans afraid to leave their homes. Published February 10, 2021 β€’ Updated on February 10, 2021 at 8:55 am Chinatown in LA Araya Diaz/Getty Images In this, April 17, 2020, file photo, Chinatown is seen empty with stores shut down in downtown Los Angeles during the coronavirus pandemic in Los Angeles, California.

A recent wave of attacks against older Asians has stoked fear in some big city Chinatowns, NBC News reports. A 84-year-old Thai American, Vicha Ratanapakdee, was pushed to the ground by a 19-year-old assailant and died of his injuries a few days later. A 64-year-old woman was attacked and robbed in San Jose, California. A 70-year-old woman was shoved and robbed in Oakland. And a 61-year-old man got slashed across the face after a dispute on a New York City subway.

Authorities have assigned extra officers before the Lunar New Year on Friday and taken other measures to combat a problem that has worsened since the start of the year. The surge of hate crimes against Asians also stoked social media outrage. In a show of solidarity and to condemn the violence, many Asian Americans on social media changed their profile picture to an illustration of Ratanapakdee for 24 hours.

John C. Yang, president and CEO of Asian Americans Advancing Justice, acknowledged that some of the assailants in these attacks have also been people of color, and said that the focus should shift from punitive action to coalition-building. He encourages people who have been appalled by these attacks to reframe and focus on the root causes rather than demonizing the people who are attacking or advocating for more policing.

Asian Male Dating in SF vs NYC

Working on yourself by getting fit, learning social skills, being stylish, and building your career are the most important variables.

That being said, demographics still matter. Throughout the years of my time on the Asian subreddits it's noticeable that the majority of success stories come from NYC and many woe is me stories come from the SF Bay Area region. While you need to work on yourself a lot of it will come down to your priorities.

Here is an example from an anonymous user from Quora.

  • "Alright, I'm 30, Korean, tall, athletic, successful. I've lived in SF for the last 13 years and my dating life was ok. I've had a few relationships, friends with benefits and many one night stands. 95% of the women I've dated were Caucasian. That being said, I needed to work really hard (and I still do) to get dates.

  • I've been to NYC 6 times, mostly for work; staying anywhere from 3 days to up to a month. I've had dates every time I've visited. And just found it to be MUCH easier to hook-up and get physical. And after traveling for quite a bit to other countries (and within the US), I'm convinced that SF is one of the worst cities in the World for straight men!

So, here are the reasons why I feel that the dating scene for Asian men is worse in SF than the NYC:

  • By pure numbers, there are more women in NYC than men, whereas in SF it's the opposite. Thus, women in SF get more attention, they can be more picky. There's no sense of urgency or desperation for them, since if you're semi-good-looking and just come out, you'd get attention.
  • There are also more Asians compared to NYC. So you're not as unique. Even the women with the "yellow fever" will be occupied, since there are just much more options.
  • Higher concentration of successful men in SF. Everyone is working for Google, Facebook or some other tech giant (or successful startups) and even if you're doing well too, then you're just "one of the". Basically, there's more quality competition among men.
  • Much more FOBy Asians who create negative Asian stereotypes.
  • Overall, NYC more diverse and acceptable of interracial dating (well if you into that)
  • People in general are more straight-forward in NYC, compared to SF. If a NY woman likes you, it's easier to catch the signal. And if she doesn't, you'd know right away as well, and will not lose time. In SF it's trickier.
  • Last thing, overall, women are better looking in NYC than in SF. And they dress better!

I still live in and love SF Bay Area, much

Weekly Discussion #3 - City of San Francisco

>Whoever after due and proper warning shall be heard to utter the abominable word 'Frisco'... shall be deemed guilty of a High Misdemeanor - Alleged proclamation by Emperor Norton

San Francisco is a historic city that serves as the primary hub of Northern California. It is both a city and county, and is the densest American city aside from New York City. The city has a population of roughly 900K, and a size of about 47 square miles. San Francisco is located on the tip of a peninsula, surrounded on three sides by the Pacific Ocean and the San Francisco Bay. The city is very hilly, with a mild Mediterranean climate. San Francisco became a major city during the Gold Rush era, where it served as Northern California's primary port. With its role in shipping vastly reduced, San Francisco is now a major hub for finance, tourism, and information technology. In 2018 34% of San Franciscans commuted by transit.

San Francisco is shaped like a square. The downtown financial district is based around Market Street, which extends Southwest from the historic port in the Northeast of the city. Aside from the densely populated areas around Market, major neighborhoods include the Richmond District, Mission, and the Sunset. The city's limited industrial base and mainline rail are found along the East coast of the peninsula. Much of the coastline has been expanded through landfill, as has Treasure Island, located at the midpoint of the Bay Bridge. The streets attempt to force a regular grid upon San Francisco's hostile topography, but are broken by exceptionally large hills in the middle of the city. San Francisco was home to some of the first Freeway Revolts. The only complete Interstate through the city is I-80, which runs through the Eastern part of the city, connecting to the Bay Bridge. The Golden Gate Bridge connects the city to Highway 1, which runs through the Western neighborhoods as an at-grade boulevard.

San Francisco is generally considered to be part of the greater San Francisco Bay Area, which also includes the major cities of Oakland and San Jose. We'll discuss those cities, as well as the suburbs of the Bay Area, in future posts.

Closest Mario Kart 8 Game (and Switch) to Mountain West Schools

It has been said that the Mountain West conference is β€œAt the Peak,” and to me, nothing illustrates that more, than the fact that there are 12 teams competing in the only NCAA Division 1 conference that sponsors e-sports. Of course, since the matches are played head-to-head, Boise State has an advantage because they tint the monitors blue, and play with all blue avatars; an advantage that is confirmed in their winning of League of Legends and Overwatch, but with the Spring season being cut, next year the Mountain West has announced that they will be playing Mario Kart 8, for the Nintendo Switch. Due to the large amounts of people in the Mountain West cities suddenly having $1200 burning a hole in their pocket, every store that sells Nintendo Switch has sold out of their allotment; yes, even, Amazon. So, thus the conundrum becomes: How can these players, prospects, and ordinary people practice in order to β€œgit gud” as the gamers would say? Well, that’s where I come in. For, you see, since I am allowed out on the streets again, finally, due to both my prison sentence being cut short, and my work being determined to be β€œessential,” I had the time to scope out some places. Alas, while my cough and fever are not improving as much as I had hoped since I last got back from Italy, I did manage to find some time to visit all of the Mountain West cities in order to find the easiest place to get a Switch and Mario Kart 8 location. For simplicity’s sake, I am going by the football stadium since it’s a well-defined point in most locations – San JosΓ© State fans, the football stadium is that big ovoid building at the corner of E Alma Ave, and S 7th St… It’s the place where the people aren’t on Saturday’s is September. Should you get hungry during your travels, I have also managed to find a some breakfast locations in the same vicinity

COVID-19 Transit Impact Roundup US/Canada for May 2021

Get vaccinated before you go. I'm posting these with a historical intent. Links where possible, and let me know if your local is missing. Updates will be slower as the pandemic continues to take their toll.

US Citizens must wear a mask on public transportation per Presidential Executive Order enacted 2021-01-21

😷 😷 😷 Wear a mask and check the schedules. No exceptions. 😷 😷 😷

Key:

  • πŸ†“ FREE RIDE! (Likely board in back)
  • πŸ’΅ Reduced fare for recovery.
  • ⚠️ Changes expected soon.
  • 🚧 Agency working on construction projects during pandemic.
  • πŸ•’ Long term schedule change being enacted
  • 🎫 Ticket proraiting/partial refunds available!
  • 🧴 Use hand sanitizer on boarding
  • πŸ’° Radical service reductions being floated due to budget reduction
  • πŸ“ž On-demand service for all
  • πŸ—’οΈ Special note

Note: All long distance trains (except Auto Train) will switch to Flexible Dining menus until further notice. Cafe service is take-out only (no dining in Cafe car). Some Cafe service is suspended.

As far as can be told, a new schedule has been issued and service is considered "full"... but the schedules aren't to pre-pandemic levels yet.

Fantasy Silicon Valley Subway

Hello everyone,

Much like a lot of you, I think San Jose and Silicon Valley are underwhelmingly suburban and lacking of culture and entertainment, especially given that this place is the tech capital of the world.

Anyway, I could go on about the untapped potential Silicon Valley has, but lmk what you guys think!

Edit: Forgot to include an important detail... Average speed of the trains including stops would be 25-30 mph which means that you could get from Diridon/DTSJ to pretty much anywhere in the South Bay (not including Palo Alto and beyond) within 20 mins or so. Edgar from Columbia and the Salsa Recipe

Luckily, just then there was a pounding on the door and a savior in the form of a guy named Edgar from Columbia poked his head in to ask if Michelle wanted to go eat Columbian food. Obviously she couldn't, but she suggested I go.

Edgar from Columbia: You like Columbian food?

Me: Sure!

I had never had Columbian food in my life, but how different could it be from Mexican food? Right?

Off we go. Since I had no clue where we were, or where we were going I just followed along on and off the subway until we ended up in front of a little hole in the wall Columbian grocery.

Eating Columbian food.

Beloved: What?

Eating Columbian food.

Beloved: At one in the morning?

Well, we started earlier. Guess I should start finding my way back to the hotel.

Beloved: It's one in the morning and it's raining like mad. How about I pick you up?

Sounds good.

Beloved: Where are you?

Hold on. Hey, Edgar from Columbia, where are we?

EFC, shouting over the crowd: Queens.

Beloved: Queens? You're in Queens? What are you doing in Queens?

I thought we already covered that but it was late
