Been using a cordless Screwdriver + Impact driver for most household projects... but realized i need an actual legit drill for anything like concrete + stucco...

I don't work on many projects.. but sometimes I need to drill into concrete or stucco. (hammer drill right?)

Any recommendations? My Impact Driver is Ryobi.. and my screwdriver is DeWalt..

Since I'm mainly a DIYer... I was thinking the Ryobi HP

Quoted $15,000 for replacing ply-wood siding for stucco. Is this reasonable?

Hi All,

I am a first time homebuyer so please forgive the ignorance. I'm in the process of buying a home in Los Angeles(a definite fixer) that has plywood siding. It's in pretty rough shape, and needs replacing. Our idea is to replace it with stucco. We had someone come out and look at the property and they quoted $15,000 for the entire job (including materials).

The dimensions of the home are as follows:

It's a two story home, so about 18-20 ft tall.

Back side of house is 26 feet long. (front side is similar, but one of the floors is essentially a garage door)

Right and left side of house is 35 feet long.

I'm a complete noob at all this, so I'm not sure if this reasonable given LA's insane cost of doing anything, or if it's a rip off. My realtor was surprised and thought it should cost around $7,000. Thanks in advance!

Holes in stucco wall for blown in insulation

Looks like our house had blown in insulation in the walls done by drilling holes in the stucco. I noticed that it was plugged up using wood. Is that ok or should I get a stucco guy to fill it in with stucco?

Adding panels to interior Stucco wall

Prior homeowners added a small mudroom type entryway, but left the stucco exposed. The added wall and door look fine, with vertical wood paneling. I am planning to add wood paneling to the exposed stucco wall, and I was curious if anyone has thoughts about my plan:

Step 1- cut and mount 4x1 pressure treated boards to the stucco with tapcon screws/hammer drill horizontally at the top middle and bottom of the wall. **Question: the stucco is bumpy, should I be worried about the boards making contact with the wall? Step 2- pre-mark the interlocking wood panels where I will need to screw them to the boards, and cut to size Step 3- one at a time, set a panels on the wall interlocking with previous panel, and screw at the the points I marked Step 4- add trim Step 5 - prime and paint **question: should I prime and paint before I install? Step 6- add coat hooks

Any feedback is very welcome!

Stucco repair recommendations

I bought a stucco house a few months back and I've come across a few small/medium cracks in the stucco, one of which I think may be letting some water in, and I'd like to get them repaired by a professional.

Anyone have positive experiences with local stucco repair companies?

Thanks!

I'm going to be installing Ethernet on the exterior of my house with these screw down cable clips. Do I need to caulk each one somehow since I'll be driving it into the stucco and breaking that seal?

I'm guessing not, but at the same time this will be creating a bunch of small water entry points along my exterior wall so I'm not 100 percent sure either way.

Cover T1-11 plywood siding with 3 coat Dryvit acrylic finish stucco system?

tl;dr: Should I cover my T1-11 wooden siding with 3 coat Dryvit acrylic finish stucco system?

House was build in 1970s. The exterior wooden paneling is T1-11 plywood siding. The siding is in decent (not terrible, not great) condition. I had replaced some warped siding a couple years ago due to heavy sun exposure and potential warping due to water from sprinklers.

I’m located in north Bay Area CA.

I have read some stories on this sub about stucco being difficult to maintain etc, so would love to hear thoughts. Is this a bad idea? Good idea?

Edit: Also on one side of the house there is a trex deck that is essentially in the middle of the wall (its on a hill. I am considering replacing the deck a few years, but it is jutted right against the walls so the stucco would go up to that and again underneath the deck. So the areas where the deck touch the existing siding wouldn't have stucco on them. Would that be a problem? Could I add more stucco there when I am replacing the trex with new trex?

Also, the price I’m getting quoted for this acrylic job is around $45k. Otherwise I do need to paint the exterior of the house as it hasn’t been painted in at least 12 years, perhaps more. I’m getting quotes for $10-12k for painting so figured its a good time to look at stucco as thats a good chunk of money. Not sure how that compares to the rest of the country but they seem standard here…prices in this part of CA are very high.

More details on the quote:

Furnish and install new acrylic stucco over existing plywood siding. Acrylic stucco tinted to color to be selected by owner. Includes one (1) layer of 2-ply building paper, self-furring stucco lath, aluminum transition trim between 1st/2nd floors on back of house, removal/replacement of downspouts, electrical box/plumbing extensions. Includes painting downspouts. Foam window trim priced extra approx $150-330 per opening depending on profile selected.

Patching/Drilling Stucco

All,

Needing to install a new doorbell. The previous homeowners left a doozy of a hole from their previous bell making it difficult to install mine with its mount. I attempted to spackle thick Drydex and then drill, but it failed when putting in the first screw. How can I make this smaller for the doorbell, with a strong enough substance to be drilled into?

Hi all. So, been in our house for a little over a year and in the beginning we had an issue with water getting into our basement in one area. I tore the wall (appears to be painted stucco, foam insulation) to see where the water was coming from exactly.

Ended up grading the area outside and it helped. Looking for tips on how to make this part of the wall uniform again. Thanks in advance!

Unfinished stucco. Can I paint it?

So the house I live in was built by my father in law in the 1990s. He ran out of money while building and so the exterior stucco was not finished. Pics https://imgur.com/gallery/omSzQwl Apparently only the scratch coat is applied. We eventually want to add on and redo the whole exterior of the house. In the mean time can I paint this layer now and finish it later down the line? Will having a layer of paint over the scratch layer not allow someone to finish it? Because it has been left for over 20 years do we have to redo all of it? Open to any suggestions! Thanks!

Edit: I should say I want to paint it as an inexpensive way to make it look less abandoned until we have the money to do what we want to it.
