AITA for refusing to make a gift to my dying step-uncle bc I plan to get plastic surgery??

Sorry for any bad grammar, my english is terrible

So for some context, my step mom (SM) and her brother (SU) come from a very wealthy family. In 2018 SU got diagnosed with a very agressive form of cancer and SM went from not caring about her brother (he wasn't wealthy nor had anything about him that SM deemed valuable) to explaining to everyone that her brother was going to die and making herself the victim of the situation. Most times, SM would talk more about HER point of the situation or how much of an effort SHE was making and would never stop using that situation to excuse herself to do horrible things (you can check my post history for more stories about SM). So, SU continued to with whatever treatment he could get while his whole family (exept his wife and children, who had to work non stop to take care of him) whined and complained about how much were THEY suffering and how much effort was to take care of SU.

Going back to the present, SU is about to die and he is worried wha

WIBTA if I chose my uncle over my step-father to walk me down the aisle?

My parents divorced shortly after I was born. My mother started dating another man when I was three years old. They've been together ever since and finally got married recently. I lived at home with my grandmother on my mother's side. My grandmother abused her children and went on to abuse me since my mother and step-father were constantly going on trips around the world or my mother would just stay over his home as frequently as she could to get away from my grandmother; so, I was alone with gma a lot. Step-dad and I never really got along. He and my mother would torment me about anything pretty consistently - my appearance, my eating habits, me "being ungrateful" when I talked back to them making fun of me, etc. He did a lot for me and our family though. He'd sometimes take us places or to restaurants, he'd buy us gifts for the holidays since my mother doesn't have a lot of money, he'd make dinner for me and my brothers, he'd be our photographer for school stuff, things like that.

Quebec: Landlord/Tenant issue tied in with estate legal issue due death in family. Seeking advice for my uncle who is being taken to court by his step kids over assets of his deceased wife.

My uncle has been dealt a few bad hands recently in his life and is currently facing something way above his pay-grade and I feel if he doesn't get a proper grasp on things he will lose much more then his house. Here are the pointers:

  1. His wife of over 10 years passed away last year due to brain/lung cancer he inherited a small life insurance payout that they both paid for ($10K), a condo they both lived in with no one else, and her car. Everything is under my uncle's name.
  2. Her son "James" moved in with him soon after she passed away to help him get things in order and give James a place to stay. James has a spare room in the condo and they share a kitchen / bathroom/living area. James was supposed to pay $500/month in rent.
  3. Less then 24 hours after his mother's death (my uncle's wife) her other son "Peter" told my uncle he wants half of the value of the condo, the car and the life insurance policy to be divided among her kids.
  4. Everything is under my uncle's name. He

AITA for asking my uncle to step down from hosting my shower?

I (27F) got married last November.

My now-husband (29M) and I have been dating since high school and living together since college. We were lucky enough to be able to put a down payment on our very first house about two years ago now, so we had pretty much everything we need and didn’t feel comfortable making a registry. We started a honeyfund instead.

Uncle Marc (47M), who was hosting our shower, suggested we start an actual registry, because he said that there are older people in the family who he knows would rather buy us a physical gift, and can we think of anything in our house we can upgrade.

I am pretty into baking so we went onto the BB&B website and put a stand mixer and some fun utensils (a sifter, a bench scraper, etc.), and I think a few kitchen towels. I showed Uncle Marc the registry and that was that.

A few weeks later, I uploaded a pic on Facebook of a new hutch my fiancΓ© and I refurbished. I got a snarky comment from one of my dad’s cousins: β€œis that where y

Can someone please ELI5 what is meant by "one level of abstraction" and the step down rule by Uncle Bob?

The DZONE and other articles on the internet are written excellently but I have failed to understand it myself. I am an average student and it's been really bugging me that I haven't cleared this topic yet. Can someone please ELI5 about this one level of abstraction and the step down rule by Uncle Bob?

Code snippets are fine to learn but I can't seem to get my head around how exactly is the principle been talked about in this context of one level of abstraction.

I would also like to look at examples where this one level of abstraction is not followed. Or some code snippet where the step down rule is not followed. And then compare both the code snippets to explain the one level of abstraction aligned with step down rule by Uncle Bob.

Can you guys please help me out here?

My aunt (beneficiary) had already been approved for her green card and her son. I have been trying to help her but I can't seem to find what are her next steps for her. How does that happen or how can she apply for her citizenship ? Thanks in advance

My Uncles Entitled Step Mother SCAMMED His Family

Hey Reddit! So, recently my uncle passed away from a sudden heart attack, and his step mother decided to take advantage of it. Shortly after he passed his stepmother contacted his family saying that they needed money to co we the expenses for his death from covid 19 ( they didn’t know how he died at the time). The family gave her $1000, she was actually planning to get another $2000-$3000 from them but couldn’t, so she took the money and ran, the body in unclaimed. It turned out that my uncle actually had an insurance that covered those expenses for when he passed. I have no idea what happened to either sides of the family I will keep you guys updated if any more info is given, sorry this was kinda long, but thanks for reading! Goodbye.

My mom, step dad and I moved to Florida many states away from our families where we knew absolutely no one. And that is where the real story begins. I would visit my dad 3 months in the summer and 2 weeks during Christmas. My dad was honestly just the greatest and my best friend. He was so understanding and kind. On the other hand my mom and steps dad were not. They would scream at me for hours while they forced me to sit and stay in a chair. I wasn’t even allowed to use the bathroom, all because I had a good relationship with my dad and my mom was jealous. They have always tried to control me and manipulate me. After years of trying to heal from childhood sexual abuse from step-dad & step-uncle, I'm now realising my narc mom was the real problem and everything feels so much worse

Bare with me, I'm new to Reddit!

I won't go into the whole long drawn out story of my life but the short version is I was raised by a single mom who started a new relationship with a man who would become my step-dad and from the ages of 6 - 15 I was raped/sexually abused by him, his brother and some other people on a regular basis as well as beaten and emotionally tortured. I finally managed to leave home when I was 17 and told the cops (although nothing came of that...nobody believed me and they are all still out there abusing other children probably).

I stayed in contact with my mom (she broke up with him when i was 13) but we have never had a good relationship, were never close and it was never a 'mother-daughter' relationship...she was more like a child and many of my friends over the years would tell me that I acted like HER mother!

Because the sexual abuse I suffered was so 'obviously abuse' (if you know what i mean) i never really put much thought into my mom's behaviour...

D-Bag step-aunt broke my uncle's heart and drove him to suicide years ago. So we hooked her with a little game called "Catfish"

Hi Reddit, you know how it goes. Throwaway account, longtime pro-revenge reader, never participated until now, don't want to use my real account, sorry for the lengthy tale, TL;DR at the end.

So, anyway.

I come from a stereotypical, close-knit, super-nice Canadian family. We have some raging, uppity Quebequois in our ranks, but other than thinking they rule the world and that they speak real French while French people speak a trash dialect, they're part of our family too, and we love them.

I'm twenty-nine now, but the first part of this story took place around fifteen years ago, when I was still a kid. I have two brothers, one younger by two years (Kevin), and one older by three years (Paul), and I'm my family's only daughter. My mom was and is a homemaker, and my dad is now a retired accountant, but before that he spent a decade in the Canadian army.

Our family's closest relatives were my uncle Gary and his wife Bernice, who lived in the next province over on the border and visite

Her and Elmo were just friends and didn’t have any romantic feelings tword each other. They married because both family’s were super Mormon. Is it considered rude to call your uncle whom married into the family your step-uncle?

Like I love the guy and have since found out it's uncommon to call someone your step uncle but is it rude? One of my friends said it was rude and I felt confused because I just want to specify that he married into the family and wasnt my uncle by blood.

WIBTA if I didn't go to my step-uncle's memorial?

My step-uncle (stepmother's brother) passed away last week and his memorial is being held next week. I met him once at my dad and stepmom's wedding over 10 years ago.

I am pretty close with my dad but I was never close with my step-family. They are a VERY close-knit family. All 20ish members of the family live in the same neighborhood and when my dad and stepmom got married, they bought a place nearby.

I see them less than once a year. The last time I attended a family gathering was in 2018. I had to remind some of them of my name.

My dad asked if I wanted to go to the memorial and I'm not sure if it would be worth it to make the 2 hour drive out to where it is being held. I don't think it would really matter if I was there or not.

Tldr; My step-uncle passed away, I'm not close with that part of my family. WIBTA if I didn't go to the memorial?

I think my Step-Uncle is trying to kill my disabled Aunt (Australia)

I have posted in AusLegal but I thought I could also ask this larger community for advice.

In pretext: I and some extended family are located in Melbourne. My Aunt, her new husband and daughter are in Queensland.

My Aunt married a man maybe 3 years ago and then had a sort of stroke and a fall at work around 2 years ago (we don’t know what caused this). The results of this "stroke" and fall are that she cannot work anymore and she now has memory issues, similar to dementia- she can struggle to recognise faces she hasn’t seen in a while and sometimes struggles to string full sentences together. Sometimes she seems fine. Physically she wasn't affected, which is why I say β€œstroke”.

I hadn’t seen her since her accident and she and her new-ish husband visited us in Melbourne for xmas this year.

Her new husband seemed quite unsympathetic and controlling (i.e. he frowns at her when she’s talking (and doesn’t like to let her out of his sight/earshot), telling her she can’t go fo

My mom called my Uncle's step-son's suicide karma

My mom and dad split recently after 49 years of marriage and since then she has completely removed her filter and has developed a more jaded attitude towards men even though she has a boyfriend.
We were talking at our Christmas get together about our estranged Uncle who left my mom's sister with 5 girls and remarried. My brother pointed out that his step son committed suicide this year and my mom shouted out that was Karma to my uncle for leaving my aunt. I honestly couldn't believe she said that. I responded by saying that was out of line and he was probably dealing with mental health issues. She replied again that it was Karma and I drank some more wine that night. She complains to me about not being close to her and I honestly cannot do that with that kind of attitude.

My step uncles a creep

My step uncle was over at my house with his dad. We were all outside and my little sister had to go to the bathroom. There was a camper and my uncle decided he would help her go to the bathroom. She was old enough to do it herself. I told him she could do it herself but he kept pushing. Then it hit me, he wanted to do more than help her and it explained other weird things he had done. So I told my sister to go to the house and stepped in front of him. My sister protested but I was very firm and made her leave then I quickly followed behind her. She whined but I didn't care, I knew she was safe and that's all that matterd to me. Latter on I found put that he is really mentally unstable and look at porn a lot. My mom told me I acted well and that it was surprising that I knew what to do at 8 years old. Is scared me really bad and I avoid being around him.

Helicopter Step Uncle is Sexualizing My 11 Year Old Cousin

So, I'm much older but I go to school near my cousin's house. Lemme just start off saying that Lydia* is the only girl out of 5 kids. She has 2 brothers and 2 step brothers. I am like a sister to her. *Name has been changed for privacy reasons

Since I live so close, my step uncle is always asking me to babysit. I mean, I've never had an issue with it because I love Lydia and she needs the girl time, so I get it, but the reason my step uncle asks me to babysit is RIDICULOUS. His reason is because he doesn't want her to have boys over because "she'll have sex" First of all, she sees her own brothers so much she doesn't even want to SEE BOYS, and second of all, she doesn't talk to any boys and I know that for a fact because I know ALL OF HER FRIENDS because I've been asked to chaperone their parties and sleepovers while my aunt and step uncle were out of town. Third of all, she's 11 and doesn't even know what sex really is. Her parents didn't give her the talk, and she didn't even know

I hate my step aunt and uncle

I'm posting this here because I know that no one in my family will listen to me.

I will start with my aunt. She has been such a bitch to everyone for her entire life. She is a minister at a church and is one of those "holier than thou" people. She feels sad and she turns to facebook for attention. When I say attention, I mean she posts ten separate things about being sad within the span of an hour. I'm not saying that you can't vent on facebook or any other social media, because hell, that's what I'm doing now. Whenever she is around me she really creeps me out too. I remember being somewhere with her and she was clinging to my arm the whole damn time. They always try to get me to stay over at their house and it makes me really uncomfortable. Finally, she is just mean to people. She always has something mean to say to her mother-in-law/ my step grandma. Stuff like, "why are you wearing your hair like that, it looks awful" (my grandma has really short hair and can't styl

Step dad and uncle validated my opinions on alcoholic bpd Nmom and i couldnt be happier

Its fair to say were all equally scared of her, especially when she drinks, so usually no one stands up for me. Tonight she got drunk as always, and she knows i have a dental surgery involving general anesthesia, that ive been having panic attacks about (i have panic disorder and ptsd) so she decides to go in my room and dance around singing β€œyoure going to the dentist bitch youre going to the dentist” i told her thats not helping my existing fears so she says β€œTHEN WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU WANT FROM ME” i told her β€œall i need you to do is not bring it up until the day of the appointment so i dont have to worry about it.” She kept forgetting that i said that and kept asking β€œWHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME” and i had to explain it each time. I said that this whole conversation is just making me more scared for the appointment and she wouldnt stop and i started breaking out into a panic attack and ran out of the house.
