Why do the Arabs claim to follow a luni calendar but yet are using the Western gregorian solar calender for their week days?

I believe in a luni solar calendar, 10:5, 6:96. But how strange is it that the Arabs who follow the invented luni calendar which was fabricated by Umar which follows the week days of the gregorian solar calendar followed in the west?

I never thought about it. But the current lunar month began on 24 april of the western solar calendar which happened on a friday. So this is supposed to be the first day of the month, which in Arabic is called ahad (which means one/first).

Yet the whole world of "Islaam" doesn't follow their own invented lunar calendar when it comes to the week days. They hold their "alsalaat aldjumuha" on western gregorian fridays instead of their own sixth day of the lunar month..

Has anyone even been aware of this?

The Quran tells us to uphold a luni solar calendar? 6:96? What do you think?

The current calendar was made by Umar the Sunni Khaliph who invaded countries and made the people submit with their sword to their false Islam. Does the Quran not tell us to uphold a luni-solar calendar in verses like 10:5, 6:96 etc.?

PS: Here is a word for word translation for those who don't know Arabic: http://corpus.quran.com/wordbyword.jsp?chapter=6&verse=96#(6:96:1)

What is the wisdom behind the Islamic calendar being out of sync with the solar year and the seasons?

Assalamu alaikum. I sometimes think about this topic, and I honestly don't understand how the Islamic calendar is more practical than the solar calendar given that it doesn't sync up with the seasons. I know from Islamic scripture that the Islamic calendar is superior to any other calendar. It's just that I have never learned the wisdoms behind this phenomenon.

Atheists, of course, will come and say stuff like "oh yeah, this just shows that the Islamic calendar was a product of its time, because the Arabs didn't understand astronomy enough to make a precise calendar".

I want to debunk this kind of attack on Islam and increase my iman all at the same time.

Thank you in advance, and Ramadan Mubarak! Assalamu alaikum.

But after seeing this about Celtic or Nordic culture and everything that descends from that part of the world, I have realized that they are actually very close to what I have always sought.

Question regarding frequency of solar eclipses in binary star systems and the idea of using them as calendars.

Hi hello. In my current project, I have a state religion which revolves around the eclipses of the twin suns of the world. The larger one is named the Elder and the smaller respectively the Younger. The traditional calendar of holidays of this religion are coincided with the eclipses of the suns.

Now here's the thing, I have no particular affinity to astronomy, so I, for the life of me, could not even begin to figure out how to calculate this. What I do know that I want is that partial eclipses of either the Younger or Elder are lesser holidays. The total eclipse of the Younger is a grand feast that would feasibly be observable at least 3 or 4 times in a lifetime (this might be impossible, to which I apologize if I seem foolish to the astronomers here.) I would like for the eclipse of the Elder to be observed in between sizeable gaps of time. I'm saying like long enough for there to not be one for at least two generations, but short enough that greybeards and old (very old) men can re

Easy Calendar Math #1 - Intro to calendar math and quirks of the solar and lunar cycles (1 of 3)

Introduction

This is a set of tutorials on John Conway's Doomsday and calendar mathematics. In the 1940s, the late, great John Horton Conway (RIP 2020-04-11, a Doomsday) discovered patterns in the calendar, namely, if you look down a calendar notice what things are on the same day of the week every year. John noticed that there was one day of the week each year that had a common pattern. He noticed that, excepting January and February, there were patterns:

The same day of the week occurred for the following days every year

April 4 4/4 June 6 6/6 August 8 8/8 October 10 10/10 December 12 12/12

and this same day of the week occurred on the following dates in other months May 9 / September 5 (5/9 and 9/5) July 11 / November 7 (7/11 and 11/7)

This date would also occur always on March 7 (or March 0, or the last day of February, be it the 28th or 29th)

This same date in January would be January 3rd (3 years out of 4) and 4th (4th year or leap year), and in February 7th

We should follow a luni-solar calendar?

How can we follow a luni calendar? This contradicts: http://corpus.quran.com/wordbyword.jsp?chapter=12&verse=47#(12:47:1)

If it's luni only, the verse has an error. Or is it the current luni only calendar that is in error?
Because in 7 years, according to a luni calendar, u can't harvest anymore due to the seasons. Harvesting "7 years" according to a luni only calendar will take more then 7 years since you will need to wait for the seasons, because the current calendar moves every year 1 month.

There are a lot of other verses which are very clear about using the sun and the moon. Such as 10:5, which says it literally.

Happy new solar year: When does your world's calendar roll over?

Today, in the northern hemisphere, the Sun hit rock bottom, and will begin its slow climb up the sky.

As a kid, I thought that was a dumb way to count years, because the weather would continue to get worse for almost another quarter of the (new) year. So when I made my first calendar for a world, the new year started on the spring equinox.

Years later, I got to appreciate the rhythm of a solar year. So the next time I created a calendar, the new year started on the winter solstice. (In fact, the ten days to new year's in the Gregorian calendar bother me now.)

So when does your world roll over their year? An equinox? An awkwardly brief pause after a solstice? The anniversary of a famous battle?

Mark your calendar for August 21, 2017: the continental United States will get its first total solar eclipse in 38 years

by Amy Sayle

When Cheryl Cook got an email seven years ago asking about her town's plans for a total solar eclipse in 2017, she suspected it was a joke.

Cook, who is the executive director of the Hopkinsville (Ky.) – Christian County Convention & Visitor's Bureau, hadn't known anything about the eclipse.

"I started Googling and I realized how big it was going to be for Hopkinsville," she said.

The eclipse will occur around mid-day on August 21, 2017, and it will likely be big for every community that lies within the path of totality.

People in that narrow corridor can witness what is considered by many to be nature's most awe-inspiring sight, when the moon passes directly in front of the sun and completely covers the sun's disk, causing a total solar eclipse.

The path of totality will be roughly 60 to 70 miles wide and will cut across the co

Selling solar panels is not worth it, make more calendars instead

Solar panels are NOT worth selling as long as you can sell your calendars for over 14k. It costs 110 chemicals, using that on accumolators would give you 25k. It also costs 50 minutes (to make glass), in that time you could make 50 bars, which is 4,1666 calendars. 69k-25k/4,166=~14k.

Of course, you'll spend 9 minutes on your gem crafter and 8 mins in your normal crafter to make the accumolators and calendars rather. However, you don't have to make the rubber, which saves 15 minutes in the chemistry and greenhouse. I'd rather save that than 9 minutes of gem crafting and 7 mins of normal crafting (making the panel costs 1 min as well).

ELI5: Why did Ancient Rome use a solar calendar instead of a lunar one?

Lunar calendars seem like they make more sense from an ancient standpoint, in that the phases of the moon are a natural indicator of the passing of time. Solar seems to make much less sense in that the months have inconsistent days and don't really track to anything external.

So I'm curious if Rome always used a solar calendar, or if there's a lunar one that predates the Julian calendar. If the latter, what motivated the switch from lunar to solar?

Does the perpetual calendar on the solar watches start up by itself after charge?

I'm new to the world of watches since I just got my first "fancy" watch about a year ago. It's a Seiko quartz solar, and I noticed it was acting funny today.

The second hand moves two seconds really fast, and then pauses. The perpetual calendar stopped working as well. The hour and minute hand are roughly an hour and 10 minutes behind.

If I'm right to assume that it was low on battery since I left it in the dark spot of my room for a few days, then charging should fix the second hand issue. I was wondering if it would let the perpetual clock start up again, or if I have to do some self-repair/bring it into a shop.

TL;DR: Forgot to charge my solar watch, and am charging it now. Calendar stopped, it's skipping seconds, and is an hour behind. Will the calendar and second hand fix itself after a charge, or will I have to repair it?

Question: How does the solar cycle work with the Exalted Calendar?

I've been trying to work this out for awhile, and it's difficult when you have a calendar made up of 15 months, with winter rushing closer to the peak of the hot season.

The simple math is 15/4=3.75. So one would assume that every 3months and 3 weeks would be a solar event; equinox, solstice, equinox, solstice, repeat. And the math does add up, if you start the summer solstice on the 14th day of Descending Fire. But the problem arises because winter, the months of Descending Water and Ascending Air, are too close to Descending Fire to have room for the Fall Equinox. The only possible conclusion is that, technically, there isn't one, and it is taken up by Calibration, which, in it's own way is around Halloween. But then that would screw up the timing of the cycles.

Anyone have any insight?

Edit: Winter begins on Descending Air and Ascending Water.
