Any advice social media/media distancing?

I'm an operating theatre nurse with limited ED and ICU experience. I am married to an ED nurse. The amount of anxiety I am feeling is intense.

I am on 2 days off before night shift Monday and the relief of being away from work is a godsend.

I decided yesterday to deactivate my facebook account and log out of Instagram. I just want to get away from it all.

I am trying today to limit myself to a total of 1 hour televised news a day.

I still am looking at online news/reddit but will try and limit this.

Any other advice on how to reduce the stress? I highly recommend getting rid of facebook/instagram for a time.

On Experience and the Lack There-of // Social Media and Nothingness

As I lie in bed writing this, I know not what compels me to even begin the telling of such a tale; one so miraculous and yet so banal; simultaneously extraordinary and ordinary by all accounts. I suppose it is spontaneity.

The idea that I once woke up - came into being, out of nothingness. An irreversible act of damage had witnessed its own completion, and had basked in the wonder of the havoc it had caused. Yet another voice, left to silently wail at the horrors all around him, and to wildly complain that they were (unfortunately enough) beyond his control. Worse yet, a voice so blindly privileged, that to complain without action became an act of sin itself. Even the basic right to contemplation was challenged, such that in contemplating, one was inherently a heretical figure, to be disdained upon for his numerous non-crimes, that had become so heinous under the ever-present and watchful eye of what They called β€˜social’ media.

Media by which beings could interact socially. If I defined it as such, I would not be writing this, for I would be making the most of this supposed interaction, these incredible opportunities and unmissable events at my fingertips. The touch of a screen yielded infinite potential, and soon enough, the touch of another human hand would yield nothing but the apparently undesirable and preventable spread of Super-disease.
Would the latter of these two become obsolete by virtue of its tendency to the ruin of collective human health? Or would it, in its permanence, bring us all to a reckoning we as a species have deserved for centuries? For all of this suffering and beauty to gradually cease, together. Hand in hand. All that had been solved and lost, respectively, would never be remembered, and That would simply be That.

In asking myself for a definition of social media, perhaps I have therein deliberately refused to comply with its capabilities. Somehow, the touch of a screen became a construct for which I had no practical use, solely on the premise of my questioning its relevance at all.
The touch of another human being, however - in its effervescent, emotive spark - could never be removed from my consciousness as long as I lived, even as long as I was deprived of it.
Solipsistic as some of these sentiments may seem, I seek not to establish a world of my own, or even to describe one. No world could belong to one person, and if it could, what a fool’s errand it would be to try to control it! This is Their world.

I

It’s better to turn off all social media notifications (leave work notifications) and read your phone when you want to and not you phone says too.

Recently I turned off FB, Instagram, Reddit (I know sorry), Twitter, Parler, YouTube, Rumble, Nextdoor, LinkedIn, and anything else I can think of. Ironically I still read Reddit and even post! Like now... but it is my opinion that notifications just might be a terrible thing. Shit even browsers are asking for notifications now (I figured out how to turn off Firefox, Edge and Chrome). I only leave Outlook for work and Teams. But now I read the internet sites when I want to and am not constantly reminded that something is trending. I believe notifications have too big a hold on us. I really think that is a bad thing. I am even conserving removing the apps and using browser links.

EDIT: Cant believe this went as far as it did. Thanks guys. LifeProTips would have been a good choice and yes this probably could be in PopularOpinion too.

CMV: Social media influencers are one of the worst phenomenon born from the technological age

UPDATE: Okay, I have read almost everyone's comments and replies, I know I have not responded to all but this blew up a little beyond the scope of my responding capabilities.

My view has been changed but not reversed!

I see now that my argument was both too broad in some parts and too narrow in others. The fact that the term 'social media influencer' applies to such a sheer number of different types of people led to some problems. Problems that defining which kind of influencer I was referring to did not solve.

I agree that it was too much of a blanket term and there are people out there who would be considered influencers by your average Joe who do make a positive impact on people and who are not really contributing to the negative effects on society that the root of my argument or view is based on.

The problems I was arguing against are not necessarily caused only by the influencers I had in mind but more a combination of technology and the negative aspects of human nature. Humans have always been self centered, irrational and greedy. Some more than others. Most of us only experience these natures on a mild level in our day-to-day lives. However, introduce technology and it blows these natures waaay out of the scope where they can be controlled easily.

My view has now encompassed technology as more of a culprit that I gave it credit for and less blame is placed on the influencers themselves. While influencer culture continues to perpetuate the obsession with self and the saturation of advertisements in our daily lives, it is only a symptom of the digital age, and not the only cause for all the problems I am seeing.

Here is an example of the road I was arguing against - https://legacytoys.com/products/selfie-phone

A selfie phone for babies 3+ months. I also failed to mention that there are baby influencers out there, too many to even fathom. Parents are doing this to their children before they can even walk. This is very concerning. This is the mentality I was arguing against. How does a child learn humility and self reflection in this environment? How to they know the true meaning of privacy or solitude?

This is not the same as paintings or self portraits. Here is an article a commenter sent me - https://conasur.com/from-self-portraits-to-selfies-evolution-self-expression/

It actually strengthens my argument. The journalist in this article is deluded into thinking that the self reflective and expressive self portraits of Van Go
