I know everyone on here as well as other support groups have a lot of concerns and questions regarding these two surgeries. I feel as though I can say for now I am a success story. Obviously that can change in the future but for now life is doing a okay. Ask me anything in the comments and I'll try to answer as timely as possible.

[Quebec city, QC] [H] ASUS TUF OC RTX 3080 (waterblocked and shunt-modded), Cash, Paypal, EMT [W] 120mm wide or less RTX 3080/3090 or RX 6800XT/6900XT, Cash, Paypal, EMT

Hi all,

Long story short: I'm a dumbass and thought I could manage to fit an Asus TUF 3080, with a waterblock, horizontally in my O11 Dynamic... The result?: about 6mm of it sticks out and prevents me from closing the panel.

So, in order to be able to finally put my side-panel back and call that build done (for the moment), I am looking for a GPU (3080/3090/6800XT/6900XT) that is 120mm wide, or less (as the Asus tuf is 126.9mm wide).

My current card I'm looking to exchange is an Asus TUF OC RTX 3080. ( Timestamp )

It comes with a full waterblock from EKWB (nickel plated and see-through acrylic), and a black back plate from EKWB. The block is mounted using liquid metal, which allows for stupidly low temperatures. (No worries, the SMD around the dies have had 3 layers of MG Chemicals 422C Silicone Conformal Coating on it. So they are basically safe from any spill (I admit a single layer is normally all that is required, but I overdid it 3 times over for pure security). I also still have the stock cooler, naturally.

The GPU is also shunt-modded to pull around 420-440W. For those worrying about the VRM: the Asus TUF VRM's is notoriously overbuilt and is rated at over 550 amps, which, at the maximum 1.1V Nvidia allows their GPU to pull, means that is is rated for about 605W, so te 420-440W is way under that limit, especially given the VRM is cooled by the waterblock.

Now, I know I'm giving a lot of information, but everyone who has traded with me knows I'm in for full disclosure, so, here it is, all the information there is to know about the card.

A few extra information if you want: the memory peaks at +1125 MHz stable, the core can be pushed at +200 stable in all games I tested, and past +250 for all 3 big 3DMark tests. The card was daily run at +100 core and +900 mem though.

If you have any question, you can send me a PM! Cheers!

Lab Puppy Scare - Lung Shunt

https://imgur.com/gallery/ZS2yyRi

Yesterday morning was a normal morning with my new puppy Nellie. She ate, drank, pooped, peed, and played like normal. After being put in her play area for a timeout, she quieted down after a few normal yelps. I went to check on her and she was bobbing back and forth and standing like she was drunk.

Her symptoms got worse and it got to the point where she couldn’t even lift her head. She was groaning and clearly scared. I brought her to the vet and neurologist who are concerned it may be a liver shunt or she got into something potentially toxic. She was able to walk but couldn’t use her back legs. I brought her home for some rest..

This morning she was back to 100%. Running jumping playing.. totally recovered from yesterday. She has a ton of energy and a great appetite. Almost like nothing happened at all. I’m bringing her in on Tuesday for more testing (acid bile) to rule out the shunt.

Has anyone had any experience with this? What can I expect if she does, in fact, have a liver shunt?

VP Shunt Success Story

This condition is incredibly debilitating, scary, and life altering. I wanted to share my success story as I was officially cleared medically from all my specialists today. I hope this kind of feeling for all of you. For context, I live in the US.

I was diagnosed with IIH in a whirlwind of appointments in August 2020. I went from having headaches with some β€œodd thing” (loss of body functions, eye movements, etc) to losing my vision rapidly. I had a series of emergency appointments that each doctor scheduled for me with the next specialist for about two months (an average of 2-3 appointments per week). This was all caught from an optional MRI I had β€œjust to be safe”. I lost my quality of life completely. I had headaches daily, couldn’t see well enough to walk down stairs comfortably let alone drive or read, and was not a pleasant human to be around (that’s being nice to myself). I did not tolerate the medications at all despite all my efforts and use of tips here. After many intense conversations with my doctors and partner, I decided to have a VP shunt placed in November 2020. This was all along side the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions causing me to be in appointments alone.

Now, the VP shunt placement surgery has its troubles. I was sore for a very long time (still am sometimes), had limitations on movement until today (3 months post surgery), lost my sense of time for a few weeks, and my partner had to bathe me for a week. I had a minor complication with my body rejecting the stitches which increased the risk of infection and I was on a strong antibiotic. However, I can exercise again. I can think and rarely have headaches. I no longer have papilledema and have most of my vision. My quality of life is back to normal and my head no longer hurts every day.

I’m happy to answer any questions about my experience. I know there are a lot of shunt horror stories but this was the best thing for me.

Shunt going well after 14 years

Hi everyone! I'm new to the group and happy to be here. I got my shunt put in at age 17 in 2007 when it was discovered that I had congenital hydrocephalus and had 10 times more spinal fluid in my brain. No one ever caught it when I was a baby, so I went years with symptoms and finally an OBGYN found the hydrocephalus after she wanted an MRI of my pituitary gland. It's been since 2007 that I got an adjustment from my neurosurgeon but ever since then, I've had no issues with my shunt. I've been to plenty of checkups and gotten lots of Cat Scans to make sure everything is working well. No complaints for many years, and I'm very happy about it. Has anyone else had their shunt for a very long period of time? I'm always nervous about a malfunction but have yet to experience that, and I'm very grateful.

Imps aren’t the clear worse faction, you’ve just got to learn how to manage power & shunt it.

The X-wing was my favorite fighter growing up. I also loved the B and A-wings. I never liked imp ships outside of the interceptor. But playing this game has opened my eyes to just how cool the imperial navy really was, why it was so formidable, and why veteran TIE pilots were respected/ feared.

Why you ask? Cuz they can manage their power. This game has taken forever to fully crack, and the learning curve for the Imperials is noticeably steeper. In my opinion, this is because shields function as a life preserver/training wheels for new players. Shields will bail you out of β€œnot dying” when being chased, give you some extra time on a poor timed attack run, etc.

However, the imperial star fighters’ power shunting ability can provide almost all the positive results that having shields does, and more given their base stats vs NR. Need more speed? Shunt to engines. Need more firepower for a run or to finish off a target? Shunt to lasers. Trying to get out fast, and all your boost energy was lost on approach and in engagement? Shunt to engines again. Made it out of the combat zone, and want to spend less time getting ready to go back in? Balance your conversion system, and start from neutral.

I’m sure this is old news for some of you, but for new guys, you need to learn to be cognizant of where your power is, where you’re generating power, and where you’ll need it for the next few seconds. The imp power shunting ability gives you more control over your speed/maneuverability, and offensive capability than NR ships in most situations. A tie doesn’t have to worry about the time spent putting power into shields, and can outrun, and out shoot an x wing just off of power management alone.

TLDR, don’t blame the imp fighters you fly when you lose. Learn to take advantage of the systems at your disposal, and have fun with them.

Shunt mod ineffective

Hey guys, recently tried to shunt mod my 3080 TUF using the hot glue method to stack another 5MO shunt on top of the existing ones. Only problem is, it appears to have had no effect. Still seeing normal numbers in GPU-Z. I checked connections with a multimeter and everything lines up.

I glued the top two with direct connection to the 8 pins first and nothing, tried again with the top 5 not including the PCIE slot and still nothing. I used alcohol to remove the conformal coating but some could still be present. I used shunts from the pascal cards, could be an issue but I don't think that's the problem.

Should I instead use silver paint, or regular solder to bridge the shunts? Liquid metal is a no go as that breaks down the solder joints over time. Anything else I can try to get this working?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Will be trying the silver paint bridge method on this thread: https://www.overclock.net/threads/how-to-easy-mode-shut-modding.1773959/

Shunt question

Hello everyone. I have a question. I’m 22 almost 23. I’ve had a shunt in my head since I was 5. I have yet to have it replaced. My neurosurgeon seems to think i won’t ever need it replaced and won’t need to come in to get MRI’s unless I think somethings wrong. My question is does anyone think I will my shunt will eventually fail and I will need it replaced? And I’m not crazy by deciding to still get a MRI every 2 years to Double check how my brain and shunt are doing?

Thanks in advance!

I’m M24 and have had a shunt since birth. Many revisions, but the last one was when I was 14. Haven’t had any problems since. First shunt, 2 1/2 wks post-op hair cut indecision.

TLDR if you are a woman or had long hair before your surgery, what hairstyle did you go with post op? Did you shave your whole head?

I’m 2 1/2 weeks post op, my stitches are out, and I still don’t know if I should shave the rest of my hair off or not. I’ve struggled with caring properly for my long, frizzy, wavy curly hair my whole life, but despite that my hair was important to me bc of my culture and the fact that it was a barrier between me and the world. And then I had surgery last year for a cyst removal where a large portion of the hair on the back of my head was shaved. Ever since then I’ve had massive self esteem problems related to hair, despite the fact that I was able to hide it the surgery site with ponytails until my new hair grew in. When the new growth was 3 1/2 inches long I cut the rest of my hair to match the length, but longer on the top for a feminine kind of look. I got used to having short hair for the first time in my life, and the look was starting to grow on me, but I didn’t get the chance to learn to love it.

Now, on the right half of my head I have the hair shaved back about 4 inches, going down in a curved manner all the way to the right side of the nape of my neck. The shunt device is an inch back from my hairline above my right eyebrow and is very visible. The incision is also still pretty thick and raised. I fear if I shave my hair and go without a head covering that it will be super obvious and get me stares. I’m really self conscious even around my family. Right now when I leave the house (very little trips out in public, but I have to walk my dog every day) I’ve been wearing a hat or a scarf sometimes, but the scarf doesn’t stay on very well. It would be easier for overall hair care and growth to shave my head but I still have reservations. I just feel so low about how I look now, and I don’t know how long it’ll take for the hair to grow enough to hide the large lump the device makes. I hate wearing hats and scarves too, but wigs aren’t an option because of sensory issues.

I don’t really know what to do and would love to hear what others decided to do with their hair, if y’all went out the house with your head uncovered before your hair hid the shunt device or not, how long it took for your hair to grow in over the device, etc.
