It should be illegal for a company to list an entry level job as requiring 3-5 years experience, the very definition of an entry level job is no experience needed

Graduates and school leavers already have an extremely hard time finding work in todays economy, most of which are forced to do jobs that had nothing to do with their fields because companies are too lazy to train and too cheap to offer training, they always want some other company to train them. Also if you require 3-5 years experience then the salary of those jobs should be considerably higher and NOT the basic entry level salary, they just want more for less. So long as your qualifications meet the required job they should be considered.

People who are charged with a crime and found not guilty should have their legal bills paid for by the government, in addition to restitution for damages.

Granted, not guilty is not necessarily the same thing as innocent. But even so, if the government is bringing a case against a private citizen, they are forcing them to spend thousands in legal fees, they limit their employment options and freedom pre-trial. Those who are not guilty of a crime but put through this ordeal should be compensated accordingly. Especially those who are convicted but later exonerated.

Edit: For those who say β€œwhat about people who get off on a technicality?”, yes, they should be compensated, too. For one, there is no such thing as a β€œtechnicality”; it is called constitutional due process. And if one’s constitutional due process is violated by the government in the course of their arrest and prosecution, them walking is the price the government pays for breaking its own rules. A guilty person walking is a more preferable outcome than an innocent person being incarcerated.

Men who wish men got complimented more often should start a culture change by complimenting other men instead of expecting women to do it

In my few years on Reddit, I can't begin to count the times I've seen posts where men say how rarely they get complimented and how much they like it. They write how much their self-esteem suffers because they never get complimented on their physical appearance. It's either bluntly stated or at least implied that women are lucky because we get complimented more.

Here's the thing though, at least my my own personal experiences and that of my female friends and coworkers over the years: Women usually prefer compliments from other women more than ones from men (unless of course they already have a relationship with that man). When a man compliments you, you don't know if he did so with any expectations. It can awkward as F if a male coworker says you look good, and can sometimes make all future interactions with them uncomfortable. Maybe this is unfair, but every woman I know well enough to have serious talks with has had experiences where they or someone they know had compliments turn into harassment. When female coworkers compliment each other though, the (presumed) lack of any romantic subtext makes it much friendlier and positive. And since we like getting compliments from women, we therefore compliment other women. If my husband and I go over to a friend's house, I'll tell her that her hair looks amazing. When a coworker comes to work in a new dress, I'll tell her it looks great on her. And no, I'm not going to compliment a male coworker in the same way. I might say "I like that colour" or "New suit? It's nice!" or something similar to the guys I'm friends with, but that's about it. It's not my or any other random woman's responsibility to compliment you just because you need it to boost your self esteem.

If you think men don't get enough compliments, start complimenting other guys. Maybe it will start a culture shift in your environment that results in you getting the compliments you want. If you think that it would be awkward, then you're acknowledging that compliments to or from people of the opposite gender have romantic or sexual subtexts- why else would you find it awkward to tell a male coworker he looks great in a certain outfit or with a certain haircut?

ETA- first of all, thanks so much for all the awards!

2- For the guys who say they already do this- that's awesome and I hope I don't come across as condescending!

3- For the ones who say they can't do this without being seen as gay, well, a) that's not an insult, and b) the

Influencers are bad for society, and they should be stopped.

Fuck Influencers. Social Media Influencers

We don't need the youth being influenced by these dumb, narcissistic millennials/GenZ, getting rich and famous, for being stupid, doing bullshit pranks, playing video games all day, and showing their ass & tits for views.

We need to stop awarding these influencers, or giving them a pass. It's tiny things that can create big impacts.

Young people are dedicating a lot of time watching these types of people. They need to held in check. Held accountable.

Edit: I know there are Influencers that are actually doing good things out there. I wish they get more attention.

We need Scientists, Engineers, Data Scientists, as the real influencers. The ones where young people can look up to and listen to.

What happened to the Science Kids shows we used to grow up on?

Edit: The title is a bit too extreme yes. I'm not against freedom or anything like that, I'm saying that I wish the standards of what an influencer is, should be raised.

Also, I don't think Entertainment is bad. I don't think video games are bad. I don't think the creative fields and pursuits are bad in any way. Don't misunderstand the point.

I'm talking about Shitty Influencers, specifically.

Edit: What's My Solution?

  1. Change Public Opinion
  2. Support Better Influencers

CMV: The Army Should Not Make Their Fitness Tests Different for Each Gender

I read a story today about how the army is considering making their fitness tests different depending on gender. They found that women were not passing at the same rates as men, so they are considering lowering the bar / changing the tests that women do. I feel like this is a bad thing for 2 main reasons.

  1. The fitness test getting easier means less fit people in the army which means a less qualified army, could lead to more deaths. I have no evidence of this, just seems like it would happen.
  2. Everyone should be on an even playing field. If it's sexist to say that women are not as fit as men, it should be sexist to propose lowering the bar for women too, right? I'm not sure if I'm sexist for saying women should take the same tests, or sexist for saying they should take an easier one.

So they had two options from what I can tell; either accept that not as many women will pass as men (which might lead to really bad PR when some news outlet 'exposes' the military for letting men in more than women) or lower the bar (which might lead to really bad PR when some news outlet 'exposes' the military for suggesting that women need different tests).

I'm not sure there's a good option here. IMO they should keep the tests the same.

Talking about the Army ACFT fitness test here.

I maintain a belief that for specific roles where we need to set a bar for the safety of everyone, that bar should be the same regardless of gender. I'm not sure if there's any specific tests for specific roles that have different standards for men and women.

Edit 3: common points people keep making. "those tests aren't important for the job they are doing" - then stop testing for that in the first place. "doesn't matter how many pushups you can do to fly a heli" - then don't test for pushups! Not changing my view with that logic.

"they have different strengths that aren't in the tests and are important for their role" so include tests for those things that effect their score.

"fitness means something different for everyone, it's relative" - they apparently already account for body differences and adjust scores accordingly, at an individual level, for fitness. No issues here.

EDIT AGAIN! Removed some outdated stuff in the post now that I've learned so much thanks folks!

My view is now like this: Testing for health / fitness? Test the individual while accounting for their body weight / size so that you get an accurate sense of how healthy they are. Not man vs woman, test on an ind

We should be compiling links of sources claiming WSB is for silver

We’re not. Plain and simple. Anyone who frequents WSB knows this.

This means whatever media source is indicating this to be the case is a sellout and their credibility should be in serious question since they either 1) don’t do their due diligence, or 2) are okay with getting their strings pulled to be used as tools by the wealthy to manipulate masses.

If there was any doubt of these hedge fund’s influence and manipulate, this whole β€œWSB going silver” just put that conspiracy theory to rest and only does more to confirm that the game has always been rigged against the average person.

Edit: You know what would be AMAZING?? This was an idea already thrown out there, but if the mods could use twitter (and by pinning a statement on this subreddit) to invalidate the silver BS... That would be SUCH a great fucking move. Maybe a message like "There is no sentiment among WSB members to buy SLV stock and the little that exists is under scrutiny of WSB members". That would just slam the door on any sources propagating that false information and call them out on their BS (because it's just so obviously untrue). It would also make it clear for those checking the credibility of this fake news that the silver hype is a fabrication by variables outside of WSB and inform them of how convenient it is for hedge funds if people pulled from GME, and supported a stock they own massive shares of.

This goes without saying that I'm holding GME till the very end. Given how the media and some brokerages have gotten involved (and in a not so subtle way that benefits the hedge funds), it's not even about the money anymore. And that's coming from someone with student loans who stands to profit by exiting right now. Money comes and goes, but getting to witness firsthand just how rigged the system is and knowing who's involved in keeping people in line is just something you can't put a price tag on.

Parking should be free at hospitals.

I hate the fact that I have to pay to go to work. I'm a nurse.

There are so many of my coworkers who just park illegally or park on the street, blocks away sometimes, to avoid paying for parking.

Parking illegally lands you eventually in the tow list. Parking on the streets can be super sketchy and it's scary to walk to your car late at night if you work in the late evening.

It also adds up. Especially if you're a full time worker.

The worst is if you're a patient and you drive yourself to the hospital or take a family or friend, you're stuck in emergency room for who knows how long. You leave with a hospital bill (that is hopefully all covered by insurance) AND parking fees to pay.

Sincerely,

Sick and tired of paying to go to work

I’m curious to talk to people who disagree that there should be a universal healthcare system - I’m in the UK and it’s great, I’m not sure why people are so hesitant to agree that it’s a good thing?

FINAL EDIT: well, there’s too many comments to reply to now, but it overwhelmingly seems the consensus is that Americans don’t mind paying over the odds for health care they may or not need, so long as it means they don’t have to foot the bill for their fellow man who ate too many burgers and got heart disease. Lol.

For a nation of Christians you’re remarkably self serving. You’d rather stubbornly pay extortionate fees for simple things like insulin and inhalers than take a few dollars off your pay check to make sure everyone was ok. Fascinating. I’m out. Not replying anymore.

It’s amazing how many arguments can be boiled down to socialists VS capitalists, red VS blue, left VS right - it doesn’t have to be that cut and dry

On with the original post....

I really don’t get why anyone would say no to free health care. Why would you WANT thousands in bills, if you get struck down with cancer, say you survive but then spend the rest of your life paying it back? What the fuck!!

I don’t understand it. People are offering you a chance to change and not have to pay extreme amounts for basic human rights, much like the rest of the world, and a huge percentage of you are like β€œno, I wanna pay” lol - like what’s that about??

I’m aware you don’t want to pay more taxes, but wouldn’t you rather pay slightly more in taxes year over year and NEVER pay for health care?

Edit: I just wanna say, as the responses to this post grow and as such, my ability to respond to everyone diminishes - Me, my family and my friends have all relied on my countries’ healthcare system for so much - from STI checkups as a teen to recovery after a stroke for my dad, to psychological counselling, or friends who needed abortions, to my own elderly parents who I’m so grateful have just been able to call if they needed help didn’t have to worry about the financial repercussions..

If my dad had his stroke in America and not England, he may have received equally good treatment in the US or the UK, but in America, he’d now be paying for that service until he died. And that’s just crazy to me. That stroke cost him his job, and now my mum is his carer, the medication he needs weekly, I know the cost would astronomical were it not for the NHS and it boggles my mind that people are opposed to this.

EDIT: I KNOW HEALTH CARE ISN’T FREE AND WE PAY FOR IT WITH OUR TAXES LOL - YOUR HEALTH CARE COSTS YOU A FUCK LOAD AND YOU STILL PAY A SHIT TON OF TAX, THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU’RE ACTUALLY PAYING F

The criminals that took GME down 371 points (77%) with only 8 million shares should rot in jail

Who was pulling the strings on multiple brokers to ban clients from buying $GME and causing panic selling as well as margin liquidations? By locking out investors, brokers took away the bid for the stock. The market makers then orchestrated a drop of 371 points, 77% with ONLY 8 million shares traded triggering multiple trading halts. It was brutal, especially, when GME only moved 10-20 points on similar volume on previous trading days. A full comprehensive investigation is necessary. Also investigators must take a close look at what happened to the options during that time. These criminals should rot in jail.

You should absolutely expose someone who’s cheating if you find out you’re the other person.

Since I know some of you will inevitably say it, this may be a β€œpopular opinion” to you but based on comments I’ve seen all over Reddit for nearly a decade it is not a universally popular opinion by any means.

Anyway, if you find out someone has been having an affair with you, it should be a no brainer to expose that person.

I’m not sure where this whole idea of β€œit’s none of my business” comes from when someone directly involved you and made you complicit in their lies. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

If you are someone who wouldn’t say anything, you’re part of the problem.

As that famous quote by apparently a number of people says:

β€œThere are two kinds of evil people in this world. People who do evil stuff and people who see evil stuff being done and don’t try to stop it.”

Don’t be that person.

Edit: Some of you seem to be missing that the situation I’m talking about here is where you are the person that the person is cheating with. I’m not talking about inserting yourself into a situation involving infidelity you had nothing to do with.

Also, it is entirely possible the person you tell may get upset with you and if that’s the case just block them and move on with your life or if you’re worried about your own safety don’t say anything.

It helps to remember that their anger has nothing to do with you personally and is a projection because their worldview has been upended. Try not to personalize it.

Lastly, those of you proudly talking about how you don’t/wouldn’t say anything are assholes. You’d want it done for you but won’t give the same courtesy? Congratulations on being the worst kind of person and making this world just a little shittier.

Things Coco has done Newcomers should know (and some Hololive History)
  • She made Asacoco, a satirical morning news stream with the purpose of cheering up people going to work/school in the morning. She used to do this everyday every weekday three times a week covering Hololive and herself. This started immediately after debut and was a huge success, garnering around 20K-70K live viewers every stream despite it happening at 6AM JST and Coco needing 8hrs of preparation every time. With other Holo girls frequently being featured in news, commercials and segments, it was an effective means of advertising their channels and helped foster Hololive's tight knit image. Here's non-Hololiver's perspective of it.

  • She lightened the severity of the girls' 'mistakes' by using them as news material. A famous example is Watame's early poor internet connection that was so bad, she once disconnected over 60 times on one stream. It came to the point that Coco presenting an image of Watame holding a placard with a number was all she needed to tell how many times she's disconnected and didn't need to elaborate more. Here's Coco roasting lamb | Here's Watame's famous FULL apology video.

  • She was responsible for the infamous Ark Addiction that spread all through Hololive(and Nijisanji). She even paid for Hololive's Ark Server, despite not earning anything during that time. Why was she not earning anything? Because back then, the girls had to be active for a whole month before their monetization could be enabled. Needless to say, Tatsunokos collectively busted their wallets on Coco's first monetized stream, otherwise known as the most insane SC train I've ever seen. It's so long, it went literally unbroken for 14 minutes and 55 seconds straight.

  • You know how sometimes, when the girls go to the toilet and people start throwing blue SCs to signify flushing? For reasons unknown, her fans/Tatsunokos are responsible for that. Here's PPT and Marine's funny reaction to it.

  • Proposed and fought for the idea of using Streamlabs during a time when many Hololive members were being demonitized. Many speculate it was because they were too sexy but this is questionable due to PPT's inclusion. She did daily updates on the matter and management considered but later disregarded the idea, worried about
