I donβt want to violate any public health orders or cause any issues, but was wondering if there has been an update re Pacifica hmb etc. Seemed to be more people on the Linda mar cam today, so wasnβt sure if anything has changed. Cheers everyone
Me and my girlfriend are going to live in Utah when we move in together. Santa Cruz and most of California is so expensive. I love Santa Cruz but I can only live here if I live with my parents who bought their house a long time ago. I donβt want to have to work two full time jobs to live with like 4 other people. Wish me luck with the Mormons lol.
Whenever I travel anywhere I always look forward coming back to SC, what are some places with a comparable vibe to SC?
So many signs and junk mail from both parties. At first I thought Manu was a bit much with the signs and spam. Leopold seems to have responded now.
Some guy tried to hang a door sign on my dogs fence and it was the second one I received from that candidate.
Thank you for the vent. Rant over.
Please help lessen the impact on Santa Cruz by posting today and for the next week an encouragement to please stay away from Santa Cruz County entirely. Do not plan to visit our beaches or the Boardwalk or our parks. We have an unprecedented wildfire occurring in our community and we have had to evacuate 25,000 people for their homes and those numbers will go up. We have limited evacuation center capacity and we have limited available shelter for our residents. Most importantly our two main highways in and out of our community are directly engaged in the fire area and so our local roads and highways need to be available to LOCAL TRAFFIC only and emergency vehicles.
Come visit Santa Cruz again when our residents are all safe and sound. Thanks for helping Santa Cruz stay safe during this difficult time.
Please post this - especially friends in the Bay area and Sacto area - please help spread this word for us!
Would love to connect with some Spurs fans down here if there are any about and see if there would be interest in a meet up for matches on weekends. COYS!!
My son and I are still evacuated from our house. We can no longer stay at the hotel we've been at as "it's already booked for labor day weekend". We can't even get a hold of the restaurant to order food (we are trying to isolate as much as possible) because the restaurant is swamped with tourists. Can you not stay out of our town for a few weeks??? I get it, we are a tourist town, but for fucks sake. We live here.
I (21 y/o) learned to surf with my friends this April like plenty of others, and got pretty confident frequenting Manresa and and Sunset Beach. We were able to go down the line and make turns. It was only until this past month that we started moving up towards Santa Cruz.
My friend and I headed into the south side of Steamer Lane this afternoon and it was bigger than anything Iβve ever encountered (obviously). I missed a wave and bailed, but when I came up from underwater I noticed I was dangerously close, maybe 20β away from the rocky cliff next to the church, something I was not used to having frequented beach breaks. If I continued holding onto my 9β 6β longboard, the white wash would push me closer and closer to the rocks. If I let go and ducked under, I would lose more breath. I couldnβt paddle back out or else Iβd risk getting knocked out by a shortboarder. Iβm sort of used to controlling my breathing from spearfishing, but I definitely panicked as I was getting tossed closer to the hard surface. Eventually I mustered enough energy to hop back onto my board and paddle as hard as I could parallel South towards Cowells just as my vision was getting blurry from the lack of oxygen. The scariest part of it all is that I donβt think any other surfer or sightseer on the cliff knew I was in distress. I paddled back to my friend and it was as if I hadnβt nearly drowned 2 minutes ago. And had my leash snapped, things would have played out very differently.
Iβm still shaken up as Iβm writing this, and Iβm afraid this looming fear will persist when Iβm out again. I get it, Iβm a kook and a fool, but what should I have done? What do you guys recommend I do from here? Is this how the waves be for the rest of the year? And I know this may be years from now but how should I improve myself so that I can be more comfortable in waves of these caliber?
Please, if anyone else who learned this Summer was thinking about going out this weekend, I would highly recommend to take extreme caution/not go out at all. Let me be the dumbass example of why itβs a bad idea. If not me, listen to the others who have already made posts about this weekend. I was sincerely humbled and have a much more somber respect for the ocean.

I will be living in my van. but everyone on craigslist wants $800-1000/mo.
My only requirement is wifi access. I'm happy to setup a mesh network at no cost to you to get a signal outside.
Hey all. Yes, I know we live in Santa Cruz, and I feel safe, but still I want to own a gun.
Yes, Iβve shot plenty while out camping with friends.
I understand basic range rules and such.
I would like to take a class that would enable me to feel confident in taking apart a gun I own and perform maintenance/cleaning on it.
And pretty much any other class thatβs worthwhile to take for new gun owners.
All suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Hello all! I know someone asked a similar question recently but I couldn't really find much information. We're coming to Santa Cruz in a couple of weeks, we haven't been there in about 16 years. Anyway my wife usually tans topless in a thong on the beach wherever we go but she's very careful where we go when on a US beach, away from people as much as possible and only topless when laying down with her top next to her unless we're in South Beach Miami because topless is legal there, or on a designated nude beach and in the last 20 years she's never had an issue. Reading the law and the comments that were posted on that post from a few months ago I'm a little confused. It's legal to be topless in the city but on the beach there are laws? And reading the beach laws it appears nothing prohibits toplessness just full nudity, it's also confusing because it says buttocks not covered is considered nudity so a thong would be illegal? I'm sure she would be more comfortable being topless knowing it's legal (well, at least I know I would be, I think she doesn't really care lol). We're staying near the beach by the boardwalk so would be primarily using that beach. Would she be ok being there in a thong topless (obviously covered up to walk from hotel to the beach) or would we be better off driving to another beach away from that area (which is what we had planned to do initially until I read the posts here) it would obviously be much easier to just walk to the beach from the hotel, 5 minute walk vs driving for 15-30 minutes to go to another beach. I don't remember seeing lifeguards when we were there 16 years ago (lived about an hour away and we used to go there a lot, we even got our marriage license there lol) but if there are lifeguards I guess we could ask them too. Thank you for any answers/tips/info, can't wait to be there! I'm hoping I'll be able to get a bunch of cool landscape photos around the area too!
Hey! Please share this around! Iβm putting together another trash pickup day this Saturday October 17th from 6:30am to 9:30 am. All ages welcome! We will start at Grant and the Santa Cruz river right near I-10 and work our way north. Itβs a really nice way to spend half a morning, meet some new people from a distance and keep a ton of trash from heading to the desert and the sea! Bring gloves, water, trash grabbers if you have them, and closed toes shoes. Iβll bring coffee and donuts. There are good access ramps at this spot so no wall scrambling. Tucson Clean and Beautiful has jumped in to help out with supplying extra grabbers and garbage bags, as well as covering us under their insurance! There is so much garbage down there but Iβm sure we can make a big difference... and honestly, itβs really satisfying to see it all bagged up and piled high for pickup :)
Just curious on everyoneβs predictions for this fight, Leoβs the real deal for sure. But I think Tank wins this one even if itβs difficult.
I figured Water & Ocean.
Unsure about the other two.. maybe Mission & Chestnut?
Hey everyone! I am looking for a quality grinder. I have never really cheaped out on grinders, but I've never looked for what is one of the "best" either. So here we are! I have looked through hours and hours of reviews and forums, so I'm really looking for some first hand accounts and opinions/experiences.
Brilliant: I love the look. Reviews speak for themselves. Owners of it: do you not care about kief? I find it exciting and comforting to have a secondary collection of material build up in my grinder. This is my #1 and pretty much only issue I have with this grinder. (I know they are releasing a catcher version, but I'd rather not buy this $75 grinder and have to spend $50 more on a kief catch)
Mendo Mulcher: This is currently my top pick based on look. I love the industrial look of this thing. I have read a bunch of good reviews and a bunch of reviews saying this grinder is overhyped and runs into many of the issues as lower quality grinders (jamming, not staying clean/smooth, not much kief, etc.). So especially long term owners: what are you opinions? Does it fall into these lower quality grinder traps?
Santa Cruz: the reviews also speak for themselves here. I don't love the classic grinder look this one has, but I'm leaning towards it if the mendo idea doesn't work out as the reviews pretty much everywhere of it are glowing.
While reading did you think "Well my grinder is about that price and I love it, why didn't he mention it?!" Please mention it! I'm happy to hear/discuss all suggestions.
PRICE: While I am happy to hear all suggestions, please try not to recommend anything under $25-30. I understand there are great options in this price range, but from issues with build material to very inconsistent quality between identical model grinders, I would rather not gamble to get a good one when I am happy to spend more to ensure quality.
Thank you!
UPDATE: I'm going with the Brilliant Cut! If you check my profile you will see my other hobby, which I realized will give me plenty of kief and it won't be an issue.
Anyone who got theirs recently, how long was the wait?
Im switching from shitty cigs to American Spirit ultra lights, are they $12 everywhere? Last time I smoked them the cheapest I knew of were at the liquor store in Boulder Creek.
Bonus if its in scotts Valley so I can do the light menthols
Yes I know i should quit but im simultaneously quitting weed, alcohol, carbs, and I deleted my Facebook....so im allowing myself the cigs for the time being, just switching from eagle 20 menthols in an attempt to reduce the tar intake (yes they do in fact not make me feel as horrible)
EDIT: stop telling me to quit. You have no clue how many stressors im doing with.
Images are from 1866-1995. The collection can be found here. Below is a picture of Westcliff @ Woodrow. Natural Bridges is worth checking out. The arches are much lower, and the cliff structure was significantly larger than it is today.

I don't do woodworking very often, but was hoping to start a few projects. Is there a tool library in Santa Cruz that lets you check our various things? Or is there a workshop that has figured out liability insurance so that people can come and use a table saw? I could buy a bunch of crap, but it would likely just sit idle except for a couple days a year.
I posted a similar question in the Bay Area subreddit but I wanted to know about some cool small business in the Santa Cruz mountains and all around (Scottβs Valley, Aptos, Capitola, etc) that you guys love and can personally recommend. Any business, food, drink, clothes, books, collectible shops, anything!
Edit: My first reward! Thank you! I just enjoy seeing all the different places you guys have commented, keep it coming!
I'm a little drunk and I've been rewatching the Netflix show The Crown. We don't have to talk about the show, just curious if anyone is out there in the world looking for some light convo. I'll be keeping my phone on me for quick response.
What is everyone up to? What are your hobbies? Current binge watch? Life struggles? Relationship issues? Work shit? Vent about whatever?
Send me message and I will reply
California has been a pioneer in election security and voting access so firstly know that our elections are secure and open. You will notice a change in voting locations and you might be tempted to connect that with some blatant voter suppression tactics being employed in other states but there is no connection here. California has been moving towards condensing voting locations into Voter Hubs for years due to the increase in vote by mail. There is still a polling place near you. There is even a mobile polling truck this year. Remember that you can vote at ANY hub in SC county. You can turn in your vote by mail ballot at ANY hub or secure drop box in the county. You can register to vote the same day you vote if you need to. California wants you to vote and our system is good. There are even 4 days of open voting this year, October 31st to November 3rd which doesnβt even include other early voting options. No excuses.
GENERAL VOTING INFORMATION
Register to vote ideally by October 19, although there is same day registration in Santa Cruz.
To track your ballot from printing to counting. Sign up here:
www.WheresMyBallot.sos.ca.gov
For all Vote by mail ballots you will have to SIGN THE RETURN ENVELOPE! (Not the ballot).
YOU (not your spouse or mom) have to sign the envelope. If you forget to sign it, but filled out your contact information on the envelope, you will be contacted and given a chance to cure it (sign it) so it counts. Or, if your signature doesnβt match the one the Elections Department has on file, your vote will be challenged, and you will have to cure it (go in and sign). Sign with the name on your state ID (in case you forget your name).
If you are going to return your ballot by mail, send it more than a week in advance, or walk it in and ask a USPS employee to round stamp (hand cancel/postmark) it. If it is postmarked on or before November 3 and received by the County Clerk by November 20, it will be counted in California.
*NOTE FOR THE CURIOUS: In Santa Cruz, ballot return envelopes are prepaid. Most bulk, prepaid business mail does not get postmarked because the point of a postmark is so that people cannot peel off a stamp and reuse it. In California, voting by mail is not new, and all USPS employees know to postmark election mail. This may not be the case in other states where vote by mail is not as common.
Drop off your voted ballot.
There are a number of designated drop off boxes in Santa Cruz County. They are very secure. Th
