EDIT: I did it! Thanks to all of you! I ended up using the “can be” way of phrasing the positives, then just went ahead with things he needs to improve on. Last part of the comment was the ole “I have full confidence that with extra practice he will be able to master these expectations.” Good thing these go out on the last day at school! Won’t be my problem if mommy gets mad 😂
Do you all put in comments on report cards? I was never consistent about it until I started noticing my own children being excited when a teacher would put a comment. “Hard worker” or “good effort.” They got more excited to read those than look at actual grades. Ever since I noticed that from them, I started putting comments for my students. It is time consuming! But I think it helps.
I received examiner's reports on my thesis 4 months after submission to external review. I am now addressing all of their comments and advice for changes, which is all logged into a dedicated form with my answers to their comments.
I am wondering, do the examiners usually get a further copy of my "answers to examiners report", and continue to argue back if I disagree with any of their comments? Or is that usually just for me and my supervisor to think about, etc?
My comments have been quite mild and I am correcting everything their recommended. But there is a single comment that is asking to change a simple line drawing on a chemical structure which is repeated in hundreds of images throughout the thesis. First of all, I disagree with the change and I think it is accurate to my structures, but most of all it would take me A LONG TIME to change this little insignificant detail.
I have worded my disagreement, but I am wondering if the reviewers could argue back that I HAVE to make those changes, or are they completely out of the picture at this point?
