San Francisco Lockdown is now extended "indefinitely," with no end, possibly even if the State lifts it

https://sf.eater.com/2020/12/31/22208293/san-francisco-lockdown-quarantine-shutdown-outdoor-dining-sf

>San Francisco’s stay-at-home order, which was tentatively expected to lift as of January 7 2021, has been extended “indefinitely,” Mayor London Breed and Director of Health Dr. Grant Colfax announced Thursday. In addition, officials say, the city might keep its stay-at-home in place even after the state lifts it, depending on “key health indicators.” That means that activities including outdoor dining will remain forbidden in San Francsico for an unforeseen length of time.

>
>The announcement was a surprise to those who attended Colfax’s final address of the year, which was delivered on December 29. While he warned that New Year’s Eve gatherings could be “catastrophic” for the area’s COVID-19 case rate, he also said that the increase in positive coronavirus tests was leveling off. He did not, we should note, make any indication that the city expected its current lockdown — which the region entered voluntarily on December 6, and was made official by the state on December 16 — would continue past next week.
In a press release sent by San Francisco’s Department of Emergency Management on December 31, the officials wrote that “due to ongoing regional ICU capacity limitations and continuing increase of cases, San Francisco does not expect the Bay Area will meet the State’s thresholds for lifting the order” by January 7. That’s probably a reasonable expectation: The state requires the full Bay Area region, which includes Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Santa Clara, Monterey, Napa, San Mateo, Santa Cruz, Solano, and San Francisco counties, as well as the city of Berkeley, to demonstrate that 15 percent of its intensive care unit hospital beds are free. At present, while San Francsico has around 32 percent availability, the region at a whole is at 7.5 percent.

San Francisco’s Lockdown and Quarantine Has Been Extended ‘Indefinitely’

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 69%. (I'm a bot)

> San Francisco's stay-at-home order, which was tentatively expected to lift as of January 7 2021, has been extended "Indefinitely," Mayor London Breed and Director of Health Dr. Grant Colfax announced Thursday.

> In a press release sent by San Francisco's Department of Emergency Management on December 31, the officials wrote that "Due to ongoing regional ICU capacity limitations and continuing increase of cases, San Francisco does not expect the Bay Area will meet the State's thresholds for lifting the order" by January 7.

> Officials say, a public health order implemented on December 17 that requires "Anyone traveling, moving, or returning to San Francisco from anywhere outside the Bay Area" to quarantine for 10 days has been extended past the initial end date of January 4.

> One reason San Francisco might keep the stay-at-home in place is that, so far, it seems to be working.

> "We have been proactive in putting the stay at home order and travel quarantine in place to protect San Franciscans and in the hopes that by acting quickly, we could flatten the curve and re-open faster," Breed says.

Check first comment for Coronavirus-related info.

**This guide (and subreddit) is NOT about the Yucatan Peninsula as a whole! if you have any doubt or question about Cancun, Playa del Carmen or Campeche, please ask about those places at the main** /r/mexico **sub**

But isn't all Yucatan?

* From wikipedia: "The Yucatán Peninsula (Spanish: Península de Yucatán) comprises the Mexican states of Yucatán, Campeche, and Quintana Roo"

Map of the Yucatan Peninsula

**So, visiting us? Welcome to the redditor's guide to the ancient land of The Maya!**

The objective of this so-called guide is to help you, fellow redditor, in your trip to our beautiful land.

>Warning, wall-of-text ahead!

**Yucatán meaning**

Altough there is no consensus about how the land got it's name, the "i can't understand your language" theory is more myth than reality. The best explanation is that the “Yucatán” word is an Spanish term coined when Bartolomé Colón found some Mayan traders canoeing at the caribbean sea, around August, 1512. When asked about the place's name, the Maya answered by saying "Yoko't taan" wich means "we speak the Yoko't Language" so the Spanish (being famous even today by not being great with foreign languages) proceeded to use that answer as a name for their newly "discovered" land.

For the Local Maya, their land has always been "The Mayab" or the land o of the few (selected) ones.

**Some basic Q&A about travelling to the Yucatan state**

* Question: Is it safe to travel to the Yucatan state? i mean, there has been a lot of bad news about violence there recently!

Answer: Mexico is a BIG country. Most of the violence you see on the news is about the northern / central part of the country. The Yucatan State is a **VERY** and I mean VERY secure state to visit. No drug related violence here, no guns, no beheadings or anything like that. Check this Graphic by vision of humanity wich classifies the Yucatan state as #1 in Mexico, regarding security. In fact, Mérida is safer than most US top cities.

Mind that the Cancun area has seen recently a spike in violence, but as i said before, this sub is only about the Yucatan state so let's skip that part.

* Question: Where do i begin?

Answer: Most people arrive to the Yucatan state from the neighboring Quintana Roo. You can start your trip by

Bay Area to ‘shelter in place:’ What you need to know about how life will change with new coronavirus order

Six Bay Area counties are expected to demand residents shelter in place for the next three weeks as health officials scramble to keep coronavirus from spreading across the region.

Here’s a quick look at what you need to know about the shelter-in-place order:

Why is this happening?

To safeguard public health and safety. Coronavirus is easily transmitted between people, especially in group settings. The shelter-in-place orders are being enacted to slow the spread of the virus by mandating that people stay indoors and isolate themselves — except to attend to certain essential activities. As the number of cases in the region continues to swell, health officials are also deeply concerned about being able to handle a huge influx of new patients at clinics and hospitals.

Which counties are affected?

San Francisco, Santa Clara, San Mateo, Marin, Contra Costa and Alameda counties. The City of Berkeley, which has its own health department, is also participating. Three other Bay Area counties — Sonoma, Solano and Napa — were not immediately included.

How many people are affected?

Those counties have a combined population of 6.7 million.

How long is the order in place for?

The shelter-in-place order becomes effective at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday and will be in place until at least April 7. People, particularly vulnerable populations, are advised to leave their homes only to take care of essential errands.

What will be closed, and what will stay open?

Counties are shutting down all but the most critical operations. Places that attract clusters of people, like gyms, nightclubs or bars, will have to close down. Restaurants must serve only take-out or delivery orders. Hospitals, grocery stores, banks and pharmacies will remain open.

The order calls for all “routine medical appointments” and elective procedures to be canceled or rescheduled.

Daycare centers and veterinarians will remain open with some restrictions, as will laundry services. Emergency services, like police and fire operations, will also continue.

All non-essential gatherings of any size are now banned.

Can I still go outside for essentials, exercise and fresh air?

Yes. People will still be able to leave their homes to handle essential business in limited circumstances — like b

COVID-19 Summary of New Health Officer Order

From the office of Senator Jim Beall (I have no affiliation, this was a useful summary)

Dear Constituents,

You’ve probably heard that the Health Officer of the County of Santa Clara County has modified our approach to contain the virus. I understand that this brings up many emotions, including perhaps some frustration and disappointment, but it’s critical that our collective efforts continue as we contain the spread of the virus.

Below you’ll find some more helpful information on COVID-19 and our county’s response.

Summary of New Health Officer Order

As COVID-19 rates across our state and region continue to increase, the County Health Officer is shifting to a new approach to contain the virus and protect the safety of our community. The new Health Officer Order, issued July 2, 2020, imposes strict across-the-board risk reduction measures on activities and businesses. The Order also allows certain activities to resume if those measures are followed, primarily those that were already open in surrounding jurisdictions.

General Requirements

  • The Order urges County residents to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission by staying home as much as possible and minimizing trips and activities outside the home.
  • Individuals over the age of 70 and those with serious underlying medical conditions should stay home other than for essential needs.
  • The Order requires all individuals to strictly follow social distancing requirements when outside their home, and generally prohibits all activities that don’t allow for social distancing. Gatherings: The Order strongly discourages gatherings, but it allows outdoor gatherings (up to 60 people) and indoor gatherings (up to 20 people). Gatherings have special rules and must comply with the Health Officer’s forthcoming Mandatory Directive on Gatherings.

Face coverings: Everyone must comply with the Face Covering Guidance issued by the California Department of Public Health, which requires most people to wear a face covering most of the time whenever they leave home.

Requirements Applicable to All Businesses

The Order requires that all businesses that are open for their workers or for customers follow a set of rules to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19, including:

  1. Telework: All businesses must continue to require workers to do their jobs from home whenever possible. Workers can go into work only to complete the job duties they can’t complete from hom

Hayward's first weekof testing results for COVID-19: 130 of the 1324 people tested were positive (~9%)

Of 1254 people who were among the first to be tested at the City of Hayward’s COVID-19 Testing Center, 130 were positive for the new coronavirus infection, laboratory results show.

In all, a total of 1324 people were tested during the first seven days of operation of the Testing Center, a partnership of the Hayward Fire Department and Avellino Lab of Menlo Park that debuted on Monday, March 23.

As test samples are analyzed, results are reported to the individual tested and/or their primary care physician as well as to local public health authorities in the tested person’s county of residence. These results are added to counties’ daily positive case updates as the results are confirmed and shared through the counties’ appropriate reporting channels to the state and then to the federal Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Once the information is shared with the person’s local public health department, authorities will provide those who test positive with appropriate isolation instructions, and on steps to control further transmissions of the virus.

The Testing Center, at Hayward Fire Station #7, 28270 Huntwood Avenue, is free and open to members of the general public regardless of where they live or immigration status. No referral from a medical doctor is required but individuals must be symptomatic for COVID-19 and have a fever over 100 degrees to be tested. Qualifying symptoms include cough and shortness of breath.

The Center is scheduled to operate from 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays or until the number of tests available for the day is exhausted. The Center is closed on Mondays.

First-responders and health-care workers can make advance appointments to be tested by calling the City’s COVID-19 hotline at (510) 583-4949.

The testing is being performed by Hayward Fire Department firefighter-paramedics and health clinicians. In cooperation with the Alameda County Public Health Department, testing teams also are being deployed from time-to-time to provide testing to vulnerable population groups.

The Fire Department and Avellino Lab are working with other cities and county public health officials to expand testing and open new centers elsewhere in Alameda County and the wider Bay Area.

The seven Bay Area health officers (for the Counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Santa Clara, San Francisco, San Mateo and the City of Berkeley) have determined that more and stricter

What A Day: Bleach For America by Sarah Lazarus & Crooked Media (07/07/20)

"DHS sent me to the border to see the separations for myself - to try to make me more compassionate - but it didn't work." - Katie Miller, press secretary for Mike Pence and, uh, mom-to-be

Class Warfare

The Trump administration has found a way to advance its anti-immigration agenda and its suck-it-up-and-live-with-the-plague agenda in one stroke, freeing up valuable time for whatever personal revenge President Trump is plotting against Bob Woodward.

  • On Monday, ICE announced that international students won’t be permitted to stay in the country if the institutions where they’re enrolled hold online-only courses in the fall. Those students will have to either leave the country or scramble to transfer to schools holding in-person classes; and if they don’t, they could be deported. The new rules will impact around one-million visa holders, and could cost U.S. colleges $41 billion.

  • Finding schools with in-person offerings will be easier said than done. A growing number of colleges will only allow 40 to 60 percent of students to return to campus at any one time, but very few are offering tuition discounts. Harvard announced that only freshmen and students who are unable to complete online coursework at home will be invited back to campus in the fall. All courses will take place online, and tuition will remain the same.

  • The ICE rule serves two of Trump’s purposes at once: Taking advantage of the pandemic to slice away at legal immigration, and putting pressure on colleges to resume in-person classes, lest they lose their international students who typically pay full tuition. The Trump administration is also pushing hard for K-12 schools to reopen as a cornerstone of its Live, Laugh, Love Coexisting With a Deadly Virus campaign. [H

i saw two movies (The Call of the Wild, Brahms: The Boy II)

first up was The Call of the Wild

"The Call of the Wild" is an innocent, gentle family movie that is tainted by its own extensive use of CGI. yes, i know that animal protection rights have become more strict over the years, especially on movie sets. but here, with each and every one of them being computer generated, they so thoroughly underpass the live actors that i cannot understand why 20th Century Studios didn't just go ahead and make the whole movie animated. Buck, the domesticated St. Bernard himself, has the rubbery two-and-a-half-dimensional look common to CGI creatures, but he is made to move in a convincing manner, which makes the purpose all the more questionable. IMDB tells me that the filmmakers used CGI to ward off any PETA protesters, which strains credulity to claim that viewers would be none the wiser.

the story opens with Buck living in California's Santa Clara Valley as the pampered pet of Judge Miller (Bradley Whitford) and his family. one night, Judge Miller's assistant gardener Manuel, desperately needing money, steals Buck and sells him to a stranger. Buck is shipped to Seattle, and eventually gets released into the care of two French-Canadian dispatchers, François (Cara Gee) and Perrault (Omar Sy), who take him to Alaska. they train him as a sled dog, and drive him through the Klondike region of Canada. from his teammates, he quickly learns to adapt to survive cold winter nights and the pack society. but all is not well, as a rivalry develops between Buck and the lead dog, Spitz, a vicious and quarrelsome white husky.

when the mail-carriers are given new orders, the sled dogs are sold to a trio of stampeders from the American Southland - a spoiled woman named Mercedes (Karen Gillan), her sheepish husband Charles (Colin Woodell), and her arrogant brother Hal (Dan Stevens). they are inexperienced at surviving in the Northern wilderness, and struggle to control their sled, which is heavy due to pointless fashion objects added upon the necessities. they also foolishly create a team of 14 dogs, erroneously thinking they can go faster. John Thornton (Harrison Ford), a seasoned gold prospector, saves Buck from being beaten to death by the odious Hal, and then becomes his new master.

from then on, a deep and abiding companionship blossoms between man and dog. their relationship is a reciprocal one - it is clear that Buck is more of a partner than a servant to the prospecto

2018 Ultimate College Football Road Trip

#2018 Ultimate College Football Road Trip

As a big fan of both college football and road trips, I set out to create a road trip that would allow one to attend as many college football games as possible in 2018.

##Guidelines

The goal is simple: attend as many college football games in 2018 as possible. I aimed mainly for Division 1 teams, with a slight preference to G5 teams because I like them. Some D2/D3 conferences don't seem to have a schedule released, though this should have a minimal impact as the vast majority of D2/D3 games are on Saturdays. As we'll see later, there are a bunch of games that have TBD times that we'll need to work with. The assumption is each game lasts 3 and a half hours. All times are in Eastern Time to make time zones easier to deal with. Travel times and distrances are calculated on Google Maps, with the ability to make up a little time on the road if necessary.

For the purpose of this post, the games were chosen based on ability to travel by car (with one exception) or other ground methods of transportation. Leave your frequent flier card at home, we're putting the miles on your car. Since cars require maintenance, we also need to factor in oil changes, and routine maintenance at specific milestones.

Starting out, you will need a buddy to share driving with, a pillow (you aren't staying at hotels most nights, sorry), your passport, ample food, and a few many Red Bulls.

###Game 1: Wednesday, August 22 6:00PM Muskingum Muskingum Fighting Muskies at Wittenberg Wittenberg Tigers (Scrimmage)

In all my research, it appears that this is the first college football game in 2018 between two different colleges in the US. We're starting out our adventures in Springfield, Ohio, midway between Dayton and Columbus, with a scrimmage between two D3 teams. A nice matchup before we get to full-fledged action.

###Game 2: Saturday, August 26 Time TBD Duquesne Duquesne Dukes at UMass UMass Minutemen

Travel: 751 miles, 11 hrs 19 min

There's a number of games on the Saturday of "Week 0" but this will be the only time we see UMass play, and it's at home so we get to see the UMass Marching Band. They're better than the football team.

Time is TBD, however largely irrelevant. Other Saturdays this will not be the case.

###Game 3: Thursday, August 30 6PM Ouachita Baptist Ouachita Bapt

The Chaotic World of Sorcerers

This stuff works as Carlos promised. For the hecklers out there who've been saying he's a fake since he died, what were you doing all that time? Yoga postures? Buddhist acts of servitude?

Obviously you weren't practicing Carlos' techniques, or you would have noticed it actually works.

What we imagine it'll be like, that's the part that's probably not true. So keep that in mind while reading the chaos described in these notes, taken from that link recently posted in the workshop notes thread. Don't let the chaos give you any doubts.

It's just interesting.

I never heard the witches being this chatty, but I guess it was because when they attended private classes, they were not the featured speaker. Carlos was.

Note: I heard a rumour from one of the women in the classes that Carol Tiggs was in a mental institution for 10 years. I really didn't think much of it at the time, but now I wonder if that doesn't correspond to don Juan taking her away, as mentioned in these notes.

We still don't know what happens to the Tonal body when we switch worlds, and there's talk of needing another sorcerer to protect your body while you're in dreaming. But then, we also don't know why Carlos gathered up so many women, and whether he put them up to saying some of the things they did. Also, he liked to weave events and names in this world, to those in his books. I think it was an act of intending. Or maybe giving that person a hook to help them out.

Hyundai broke my car twice and refuses to pay for it

What do I do? I'm having so many problems with Hyundai I don't know what to do.

TL;DR - When I took my Hyundai for a speaker repair at the dealership it was returned to me with Bent Rims, A Leaking Brake Caliper, and Chopped Tires. After a month of dealing with Hyundai Corporate they told me they couldn't help me (by sending me a letter telling me to stop calling them basically) and told me to go to the dealership to get the damage covered. The Service Manager told me that he knew for a fact that they didn't do anything to my vehicle, and refused to pay for anything... the worst part is, it's happening all over again. Details below:

During the month I dealt with Corporate, my case manager stopped answering me for two weeks. So I called them and ask to speak to her manager as I had not heard from her. They told me they would send me an email, all I had to do was reply to it and it would go to her manager. So I wrote the following email that contains the whole story. (Guess who the email didn't go to? Her manager)

"[email protected] 11/28/17

Summary of New Health Officer Order for COVID-19
