My favourite feature of Black/White was that every Pokemon was new/native to the region

I know they get a lot of praise now, but I love how Black/White only feature the new pokemon to the generation. For me it was the breath of fresh air that the franchise needed, having every battle/encounter/trade/gym as a native pokemon.

It really gave the Unova region flavour, not having the new pokemon saturated by precious generations and having them take the spotlight. This made Unova feel distinguished from the other regions and not just another region in the franchise. Unova always felt like it's own unique environment to explore to me. It just feels like it's own world to dive into, not just an extension of the franchise.

Even revisiting the games now it still feels fresh and really gives you that feeling of exploring and finding creatures that live there. There's no "oh look, there's Zubat/Slowpoke/Rattata". Even in the late game, you were still discovering new pokemon rather than having the same ones you've seen hundreds of times resurfaced. I also felt that it gave the gyms a good challenge, because you really had no idea what you were going up against.

This also made for a really tight/solid roster, e.g. basic starters, elemental monkeys to compliment your choice, two decent fossil mons, strong fighting types, bulky psychic types, a few rare dragons. It really is it's own 'sandbox' to design a team from. Not just a few new creatures outnumbered by returning pokemon.

I wish they would do this again, I understand they can't do it for every generation but it would be the refresh the games need. Just as long as they don't have ones that evolve at level 50+...let alone 64!

I am Judith Enck; I was appointed by President Obama as the EPA Administrator for Region 2, and now I lead the nationwide project, Beyond Plastics, working to end plastic pollution everywhere. AMA

Hi Reddit, Judith Enck here. I'm the President of Beyond Plastics and I teach an environmental policy course, with a focus on public action, as a visiting faculty member at Bennington College.

Plastic is an international environmental and social justice issue. Half of the more than 8 billion tons of plastic manufactured since 1950 was produced in just the past 13 years. The world's richest countries have spent decades shipping their plastic waste overseas, where many of the world's poorest are exploited into picking it - and exposed to toxic trash in the process.

Microplastics - and likely nanoplastics - are now pervasive in our air, water, and soil, with untold consequences for human health and wildlife. A brand-new study showed microplastics on both the mother and fetal side of human placentas.

As plastic is a byproduct of fracking, the US fracking boom and breakneck pace of plastics production go hand-in-hand, with more than 330 new petrochemical facilities completed, in construction, or planned in the US since 2010. These mega-polluters are often sited in poor and BIPOC communities across the country.

Beyond Plastics is a US project building a grassroots movement at every level of society, from local bag bans to the federal Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act, community organizing, education, and connecting the plastic crisis to the climate crisis. AMA about the plastic crisis and organizing to end plastic pollution!

[Edit]: Thanks for the great discussion Reddit! This was my first r/IAmA and I loved doing this. I will definitely come back for another one, perhaps when the Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act is reintroduced, but for now I have to get back to work with Beyond Plastics. In the meantime, feel free to contact us here for more info: https://www.beyondplastics.org/contact

The Atlas skill trees have given the regions meaningful identities

As a casual player, I could never remember the names or the location of the eight regions in the Atlas. They were just completely meaningless. Placeholder names. Now, completely effortlessly, I know what and where Haewark Hamlet is, even specific maps belonging to the region, and I have an attachment to the region. I have a reason to care. There's more purpose to running maps now, and you don't have to run high-tier maps lest you feel like you're wasting your time. I think this has been an incredible improvement to the game.

Whatโ€™s a European country, region, or city whose fascinating history is too often overlooked?

It doesnโ€™t have to be in your country.

I personally feel that Estonia and Latvia are too often forgotten in discussions of history. They may not have been independent, but some of the last vestiges of paganism, the Northern Crusades, and the Wars of Independence have always fascinated me. But I have other answers that could work for this question as well - thereโ€™s a lot of history in Europe.

What about you?

Are you for or against the Internationalization of the Amazon Region?

South America is home to around 5% of the world population, yet contains a third of all freshwater on earth, not even including Chile and Argentinaโ€™s claims in Antartica. As climate change worsens, billions of humans across the world will have less access to water, while South America sits on the epicentre of the โ€œoilโ€ of the 21st century. Colombia alone has more freshwater than the entirety of Europe sans Russia. Brazil has nearly triple Russiaโ€™s (2nd) freshwater. Biodiversity is starting to he seen as an economic benefit, aiding in the creation of pharmaceutical and scientific technologies. Countries sitting on the Amazon region are increasingly being deforested, so some foreign governments have proposed the concept of โ€™Internationalization of the Amazonโ€™, namely the French President Macron under that excuse.

While I, as a Latin American abhor the destruction of our beloved Amazon, I am vehemently opposed to such concept. US and European governments/corporations can exploit the global south and no one bats an eye, but God forbid us wanting half of our territory to belong to us alone. Also, water is a human right, but think of the destruction our ecosystems would go through if we were forced to export water for the global masses if it were to be internationalized. Our lifelines being decimated in order to quench billions in far away continents, with no economic retributions. If this were ever to be pressured by the international community, I wouldnโ€™t doubt that leading to the formation of Union of Latin American countries with heavy military presence in the Amazon, Patagonia and eventually the Antarctic.

Another thread on very low Harvest rate: I have 2% encounter rate with 737 Maps completed, all Harvest passives and actively searched in those Regions

Most ran maps https://i.imgur.com/r2JdT24.png

Atlas passives https://i.imgur.com/lBLLPf7.jpg

Harvest proc rate from Bex https://i.imgur.com/RFqSqV7.png

Have been trying so hard to get a few things changed on my gear and getting so burnt out by it. I did buy some crafts on the TFT discord (surprisingly easy if anyone is on the fence about trying it) but was running out of currency to pay for the crafts.

A bit of looking on Reddit seems that some people are also having this problem and it really seems unlikely that this is just a "bad luck streak" with 737 maps and 2% proc rate (when it should easily be over 5% given I've actually been farming the Harvest areas). I really don't wanna be the tinfoil hat guy but this is too much.

EDIT: With all the new information in this thread I'd just like to say what seems most likely to me is that Haewark is bugged, possibly having to do with the new watchstones. Lex Proxima is probably fine, did 25 Lex Proxima last night, got 4 Harvests (16% which is above the expected 11%). I have been farming Haewark more than Proxima so that's probably why my encounters are so low, and mapwatch is only able to take note of an encounter when Oshabi speaks, which seems to be extremely random (For perspective, the 4 Lex Proxima Harvests I got last night, only 2 of them show up). Running 25 Haewarks with Zana and Paths Not Taken and will post results along with the Lex Proxima data from last night.

EDIT 2: All Maps were "Alch and go" and explored thoroughly. This is definitely a much smaller sample size than the 737 so take this with a grain of ... salt ...but it does back up what I said in my first edit. Haewark did have the new watchstones in so I may do another 25 Haewark with all normal watchstones but I'm a bit burnt out right now lol

The Good: Lex Proxima seems to be working fine for Harvest. 4/25 Lex Proxima Maps had Harvest, 16% proc rate, higher than the expected 11%. https://i.imgur.com/SekG6qX.png

The Bad: Haewark is absolutely terrible (and that's been my experience before making this post). 1/25 Spawn for Harvest, 4% which is much lower than the expected 10% (and likely behaving similar to un-buffed 5% natural proc rate). 5/23 Zana missions offered with "Paths Not Taken" Atlas node contained a Harvest Mission (one of the maps had 2 Harvest Missions within all the options) which comes out to slightly under 22% chance from Zana https://i.imgur.com/fuk224z.png

The State Of The Middle East Region In RLCS.

Hello,

Letโ€™s start with our story first. We are a group of friends from Saudi Arabia and we are passionate about Rocket League and RLCS. As you may know, our region has a lot of talented players and you may know some of them (Ahmad, Okhalid, etc...). However, the region is not represented in RLCS yet and it has been like this for a while. So we thought we could step in to get our region to join the RLCS.

The first step we took was contacting Psyonix to know what we could do to get the Middle East region (ME) into the big scene. Their response was that they do not have any plans for the region currently and encouraged us to make a Reddit thread to gauge the support from the community for the idea then later look again into it, and here we are :)

Simply our goal is to prove that the ME region has a big audience as well as talented players who can compete in main events and hopefully win tournaments. However, our task is not easy as it seems, we need to gain the community and players support and grow big enough to turn the spotlight on the ME region.

We aim to achieve this by hosting show matches between players from the region at first, then transition into sponsoring tournaments later on (show matches and tournaments will include prizes). After gaining enough following, we would like to begin picking players to endorse them to represent the region.

We have already contacted a few Middle Eastern players who are known in the community and are waiting for their replies. However, if you are a Rocket league player from the Middle East or you happen to know players from the region who are talented, please get in touch with us through any of the links below, to participate in upcoming show matches and tournaments. If you would like to provide suggestions or help in other ways, feel free to contact us as well.

Thank you for reading,

Learning to program a computer is similar to learning a new language. However, MIT neuroscientists found that reading computer code does not activate language processing brain regions. Instead, it activates a network for complex cognitive tasks such as solving math problems or crossword puzzles. news.mit.edu/2020/brain-rโ€ฆ

I think Greek would be pretty cool for a Pokemon region

There's so much to do with the many monsters and Greek gods, the amazing architecture with those old ancient temples and buildings, the stories of the many myths... lots of ideas and things to come up with!

Things I think would make for some cool Pokemon:

  • Hydra (Giant serpent that can regrow it's heads.)
  • Chimera (a lion/goat/snake hybrid)
  • Minotaur (Half man half bull guy)
  • Medusa herself (the next waifu pokemon just like Gardevoir)
  • Cerberus (Giant dog with 3 heads)
  • Cyclops (Bonus points if it's mixed with an elephant cause their skulls were mistaken for cyclops)
  • Griffin (Giant bird/lion thing.)
  • Hippocampus (A horse with the body of a fish)
  • Ouroboros (snake eating its own tail)
  • Pegasus (Flying horse, maybe as a regional Rapidash?)
  • The 12 Zodiac signs as well Ophiuchus, the 13th (Those would be legendary Pokemon)
  • Also a dolphin cause we want one (How it's not a Pokemon baffles us)

And I think the gym leaders based on the 12 main gods of Mt. Olympus.

(8 gym leaders and 4 elite ones)

  • Champion would be based on Zeus himself.

So, what do you think. Any questions.

What region of your country generates most of your country stereotypes?

For example, most know the well-known German stereotypes of pretzels, Oktoberfest and lederhosen. In Germany, however, these are specifically Bavarian customs and aren't traditions in the rest of the country.

So what region created your country's stereotypes?

This struck me after seeing the GME posts. We should all be thankful that there are few billboards in our region. Can you imagine driving on 66/495/etc with an onslaught of political or special interest ads?
