Grandma's Marathon, scheduled for June 20, 2020, has been cancelled. The reasons for canceling are obvious and understandable.
HOWEVER, I'm posting here because they apparently have chosen to keep everyone's money. This is the third marathon for which I was registered to cancel due to coronavirus, and the only one not refunding people's money. Also worth noting that this one has about 8 weeks more time than the other two. Here's their justification:
>In order to preserve our ability to continue to provide the Grandma's Marathon experience to the running community for years to come, we must uphold our no refund and no deferment policy. The time and effort that goes into planning for race weekend are well underway, and a significant portion of our expenditures have already occurred and are irreversible.
Obviously, I'm disappointed in the cancellation. But hey, shit happens. I'm pissed off because they mention their own financial struggles as a reason for not refunding the m... keep reading on reddit ➡
Hello everyone. My University is closing all of its dorms on campus at spring break due to COVID 19 fears. My question is, my roommates and I have paid the university for the rooms for the entire semester, but they are kicking us out half way through. Are they legally required to refund us for the months we paid for but can't use now? Thanks in advance.
Edit: this is an American University in Kansas if that changes anything
Edit 2: Thank you all for the advice. At the moment I'm planning on sitting tight and waiting for the Uni to send out an offical statement before I do anything drastic, but everything you've all been saying has helped put my mind at ease, so thanks!

At the very end of the process, after you're sick of looking at numbers and you think you're just closing out details (and you don't need to read the prompts very carefully), TurboTax asks if you want to just deduct their fees from your refund. Sounds like a no-brainer right? One less thing... Except they very casually say they'll deduct their fee of $40 from your return. Never mind that that's NOT the fee to file your returns - it's a new fee on top of filing fees for the convenience of this option. It's taking advantage of people not reading closely. ALWAYS pay by credit card, not by deducting fees from your return.

Last month, I cancelled my business VOIP after 7 months of only having 25-50% of the services I'd been paying for. I kept calling tech support; depending on which service they'd get one of the issues fixed for about a week before it went down again. The other issue they never got fixed. Midway through I asked for and got one partial refund for a month, but I didn't have the time to keep up with it on a regular basis.
When I put in the cancellation request, I had 2 months left on my contract. I asked that they waive the cancellation fee/paying out of the last 2 months of the contract due to the service issues. This was about $142. I figured it was simpler and less expensive for them than asking to calculate out a refund for the other months of no service.
My request was ignored and I got an email about the cancellation. So, I sent another email, asking for the waiver. It was declined; no explanation.

Before I start, for some background, I work at customer service as a department lead and I'll say my hardware store practices the rule that says "we reserve the right to refuse and limit any returns for any reasons" very often. With that being said... A Karen slithered into my store with a water heater that was around $800, She hissed at us "I want to return it" I asked if she had a receipt, she ask why does she need one and I said to do the refund, since it was over $50, we would for sure need a proof of purchase, she groaned and dug around in her purse and called me a moron and etc, she was already rude for no apparent reason. I was kind of already in a pissy mood that day so I decided I'd have some fun with her being an asshole by being an asshole back to her. When she presented the receipt, I looked at the receipt to find any possible reason to deny her return and saw it! I'd only just started my shift, one a man gets far closer to me than I'd like, even without Social Distancing, and asks if I'm the manager of the shop. I explained that, while I wasn't the overall manager, I was the shift manager, and asked if there was anything I could help him with. He tells me that he'd bought four bottles of wine from the shop at the weekend, but the first three had been corked and undrinkable. He'd called up our customer service line, and they told him to bring them back for a replacement or refund.
Me: would you like them replaced or refunded?
IC: I'd like them refunded, please.
So I asked him to follow me over to the tills so I can put through his refund. He produced a single, unopen bottle from the bag he was holding and handed i... keep reading on reddit ➡
Just over a week ago I decided to order food off of one of those food delivery sites. All seemed well and good until the driver picked it up.
Instead of coming straight to my house, he decided to take my food 20km north on the highway, before coming back to my place which is only ~3km away from the restaurant. As a result, he got to my street about 20mins after the “latest arrival time”.
When he got to roughly where my place is, he pulled up in a carpark across the main road. I live on a service road that runs alongside the main road, but the service road is technically the same street. He messaged me saying “help me i can’t find it”. The cancellation of the exams is of course no fault of the CFAI. What is also true is that the product that is being paid (an exam in June 2020) can no longer be delivered. While the majority would nevertheless want to write the exam 6 months later, not everyone wishes to do so.
Circumstances, job situations, what one plans to do with their time in the spring vs before the holidays can change significantly.
Refusing refunds and forcing those who do not wish to defer exam dates by an entire 6 months is treating candidates unethically and unfairly. I can think of no other circumstance where a consumer pays for a service from a reputable business, and then the business subsequently delays the rendering of such services by 6 months without offering a refund.
The CFA Institute emphasizes ethics and I sincerely hope that they will show it is not only lip service.

High Schools should no longer have AP exams.
IF/WHEN SCHOOLS REOPEN in US:
All Students should complete their AP courses in school. Get their final grade in that course, which will be on transcript.
Colleges should NOT expect students to take AP exams this year / May 2020.
Juniors / sophomores / freshmen, you guys should also complete your AP coursework in school, but should not be penalized for not taking AP test this year.
College Board should refund the money back to all students. Ok, maybe cut a very tiny amount of administrative fee. But cancel it all and refund please!!

Title. No way to get through to their call centre handling refunds for cancelled flights. I think just doing a credit card chargeback would be the easiest option, am I right about that?
I am not refunding, but I see way too much crucifixion of people who are refunding.
They are not toxic assholes at all, the game will not be better off without them like a lot of people think.
It may be early access, but a week downtime right at launch should not be excused, understanding a problem arose is one thing, but to flame others for refunding is idiotic and gives an excuse to other game developers to not release a functional product.
Do we really need 40 threads about it?
A few people from different schools are getting together to see if this is plausible. I’m not sure how I feel yet but I’ve been approached about it, wanted to see where others stand. What do you guys think?
Yesterday I was working the customer service desk, as I do every day, 5 days a week. Typical Karen comes up with an item to return. No problem. It was about $5, and I asked if she had her MasterCard that she paid with, as all refunds must be issued the same way the customer paid (or a store credit).
She was digging out her card and asked if she could get a store credit instead because it was less work for her. Sure. A store credit is issued on a gift card, and after I processed the transaction I informed her the gift card takes about 5-10 minutes to activate. I'm sure you can now guess where this is going.

We want to update everyone on refunds for macOS and Linux users, as well as shed some light on why we made the decision to end support for both platforms.
Our plan yesterday was to have players contact us directly about refunds for the base game so we could help you obtain one from Valve as quickly as possible. This was supposed to happen in conjunction with Valve issuing refunds to players who have played Rocket League on macOS or Linux. While Steam’s normal refund policy has a two week purchase and/or two hours of play window, we coordinated with Valve to expand eligibility to anyone who has played Rocket League on either platform.
That process did not work as planned, and we’re sorry for the frustration this has caused for anyone involved. At this time, anyone who has played Rocket League on macOS or Linux can contact Valve about a refund for the base game, and the refund should go through.

When the lectures were striking a few a few weeks ago we were told that we could not ask for refunds for the missed lectures since the matter was "out of the university's control" (essentially saying it was because the negotiations between the uni and the union broke down)but now that the university's have proactively stopped face to face teaching (the gov advice doesn't call for this on university's yet so it's upto the university) can we now request refunds for the missed time? And for those who have already built their Railjack, they'll get a massive refund of the credits and resources they put into it, AND also two repair drones for free. After spending around $600 in textbooks in my first semester, I thought about what I could do to never deal with that bullshit again. If I couldn't find a PDF of my required textbooks online, I always went out of my way to get an electronic textbook every semester so I could utilize a simple Python program I wrote up that screenshotted every page of the e-text. Students at my university and many others are petitioning to have their tuition reimbursed because the quality of their education has dropped due to classes being moved online. I think this is downright silly, and it makes us all look extremely entitled.
First, we are still getting units for our work, and these credits still count towards our degrees. This is essentially what we are all paying for in the first place, and there are no changes on this front. Yes, we are also paying for a quality education, but (at least in my experience) the quality has not dropped to such a point that a refund is merited.
Second, this petition neglects the fact that professors, TA's, and other faculty have worked tirelessly to make this transition work. Asking for a refund at this point completely disregards the hard work that they have put in to help continue our education. It just comes across as disrespectful IMO.

By the end of my degree, myself and quite a few people from our class had almost $1,000 on our cards, since our program did very little printing or copying, barely had any hard copies of anything at all. My thoughts on the situation: While ending support is bad, this is the ideal outcome. They did the right thing despite not having a legal obligation to. This was probably done out of a desire to either stop bleeding their goodwill or avoid a potential backlash that could lead to even possible legal action.
