That piece of curved metal you found near railroad tracks, or where railroad tracks were, is probably a rail anchor. These get clipped under rails near the wooden tie, and keep the rails from creeping over time as trains pass over.

Cheapest fill dirt and railroad tie delivery option near TR?

I need about a dumptruck load of fill dirt delivered and dumped on my driveway for some projects I'd like to work on.

I also need about 10 railroad ties delivered.

I've searched online and while it isn't horribly difficult to find what I need, I'm curious what experience others getting dirt delivered on the cheap.

Thanks

There are a couple families brawling on railroad tracks 500' ahead, one of whom trying to tie members of the other onto the tracks to get flattened by the incoming train (~ 5+ seemingly innocent lives at stake). 100' ahead of you, two RR employees are working on alternate track. Veer or do nothong?

You happened to be by a raised control point with a clear view of the tracks. You don't work for the locomotive company, you're just familiar with the controls.

Option1 action will means that the two crew members are almost guaranteed to get ran over, >95% chance.

Option1 inaction will mean that >90% chance at least one innocent person gets ran over, >50% chance that four or more get it.

All I can come up with is wedging some bigger sized rocks from my yard underneath it as a temporary fix. What else can be done? The gap is about 4 inches high by 6 inches deep.

Railroad tie disposal

Is there anything special that needs to be done to dispose of old rotten railroad ties? Rented roll off dumpsters in the past and seem to recall they were a forbidden item, where are you supposed to take them if that's the case? Have a big retaining wall coming apart and trying to figure out logistics of removing it and disposing of the old ties.
