How is Quito?

My husband and I (both fully vaccinated healthcare workers) bought cheap airfare to Ecuador last year, and we were keeping our fingers crossed that the Covid—19 situation would be more under control by the time we left. We have an itinerary but can cancel the airfare if we need to. We are due to leave in 2 weeks, plan on flying into Quito, then driving to Mindo to stay on a private farmstead. We don’t drink or go to clubs, we mostly keep to ourselves and do outdoor stuff like hiking, etc. How is the situation in Quito currently? Thank you for any info!

ETA: thank you all so much for the replies! To clarify, we aren’t planning on spending too much time in Quito. Ordinarily we try to balance trips between city activities and rural/outdoor stuff but we planned this trip knowing cities would be more or less off limits. We are doing 2 nights in Quito on the front end, one day of which will (hopefully) be spent in Cotopaxi. The first day we were just planning on walking around outside during the daytime. To get to Mindo (and then on to Mompiche) we are renting a car. Honestly we would even be fine spending a full day in the hotel in Quito if we needed to. We are keeping an eye on Ecuadorian news (not just Covid related) and I was following the 4/11 election and was surprised that Lasso won. I’ll check back in probably the day before we are set to leave - but I do so appreciate everyone’s replies and I hope that you all are healthy and safe!

[34M] Ecuador + ???: Cuenca 05/01 - 06/01, Quito 06/01 - 07/01, then who knows?

I am a digital nomad currently in Ecuador for 2 months (see title). I'm looking for anyone who wants to explore and do some tours and activities (Galapagos cruise, Cotopaxi, Amazon). After Ecuador, I'm not sure where I will be traveling to, it depends on how things are going here in South America, although I also kind of have my eyes on Croatia?

If you want to hang out just during my time in Ecuador that's great, or if you want to consider partnering up for future travels that's awesome.

About myself: From the US, I speak English and decent Spanish, gamer, foodie, watch anime, and a computer nerd. I work and am in school while traveling. I just started my digital nomad journey but I've been traveling for years. As far as my style of travel, I love adventure/exploring, trying new food, and culture; I try to be as local as possible while still trying some higher end stuff here and there. I don't do clubs or high energy bars.

P.S. I have both my Covid shots completed.

Gun ranges in Quito / Ecuador

Hey guys,

I will be travelling to Ecuador (and will be staying mostly in Quito) in may to visit friends - great timing, right? We will have lots of fun during the lockdown.

I'm a a shooting instructor where I'm from (central europe, not the US - don't worry). I would like to bring two friends of mine to a gun range and rent some pistols, if that is even possible. The information I've found online is quite inconclusive. I found a place called Poligono CED in the north of quito, but the page is busted due to some Wordpress update.

Does anybody have any pointers? Recommendations?

Many regards from your european friends, thanks for all the delicious cocoa beans

About missing people. I've seen a black man that speaks English in a north American accent wondering around La Carolina park in Quito. He seems to be mentally ill and walked without a mask during this whole pandemic. Is he missing? I've seen more foreigners in that sad situation in Quito.

This is a tall and sort of muscular black guy that walks around northern Quito speaking loudly to himself. He maybe does this since a couple of years ago, I remember seeing him in coffe shops with his laptops much before the pandemic, and now just walks and talks with no apparent destination, old colthes and dirty hair. I'm too shy to take a photo of him, I encounter him very randomly. Has anyone else seen him in Quito? Is there any community where you can report a possible missing person from other countries. I mean, it seems more common to find sites that report missing people but not a site where you can inform about people that seem to be missing when you see them. There's also a brazilian or portuguese guy thay kind of lives at the Orellana Avenue in Quito, I remember him from like 10 years ago. Also in Quito, around Iñaquito, La Carolina, There's a lady that wonders around with a guitar case. She is short, white hair and skinny. I've noticed her during the last 4 years. Sorry if this isn't the place, but I don't know where else to discuss this.

UPDATE: some people have talked to the tall guy and say that he always speaks about being followed by spies who try to kill him and that his government has no embassy in Ecuador, not specifying the country. The post is from two days ago from a Facebook group named "Expats in Quito". It's a closed group so I can't link the post. Here's a snapshot

Itinerary advice for traveling to Quito?

I am going to Quito next month for 7 days.

My current plan is Quito > Cotopaxi > Banos > back to quito for my flight home.

3 nights in Quito, 1 night in Cotopaxi, 3 nights in banos

But I am having trouble figuring out the logistics. I have read that the most convenient way is to hire a private driver to get me from Quito to Cotopaxi, but I want to stay overnight at Cotopaxi at the Tambopaxi, and next day go to banos. How do I get from Cotopaxi to Banos?

I am fine taking a bus Quito>Cotopaxi, but I read that they drop you off outside the national park and I am worried about the ~4 mile walk in to the park since I will have a suitcase on me.

Any advice figuring out my itinerary is greatly appreciated :)
