I am trying to remodel my kitchen to a somewhat modern farmhouse style with White Cabinets

was looking into getting Calcatta gold quartz but was told it wasn’t a good durability choice by contractor

anyone with experience on this

Do I need to purchase a protection plan for my quartz kitchen countertop?

Hi guys. For anybody that has quartz as your countertop in your kitchen , do you recommend purchasing a 10 year warranty plan that covers any damages for $399? Is it worth it? How much damages do quartz normally incur throughout the years?

PS.. We normally take care of our stuff so we are very careful folks. and we will put plywood underneath the countertop to prevent separation in the future especially since we live in a state where earthquakes are common.

Best place for quartz countertops?

Starting to shop around for quartz countertops. We've only visited Lowe's and Home Depot far. Pricing was okay, but I think we can do better on price. When I search the Nashville area for countertop places, a ton of choices come up. Any recommendations? A place where you can look at slabs would perhaps be helpful. Trying to pick a color/pattern using extremely small sample pieces is difficult. Website pictures aren't much better.

Ultimately trying to find a place with great prices.

Thanks for any guidance.

PSA: Please don't BUY someone's old granite/ quartz countertops, thinking that you will save a bunch of money on a kitchen countertop project.

I have a small fabrication shop for granite and quartz, and I have had 3 different people call since covid-19 crap started, wanting me to repurpose random pieces that they had bought off CL, or FB marketplace. All 3 were very surprised by the cost of reworking them, and installing it. The reasons against doing this are many, from not knowing if the material suffered any stress damage during removal, to having to remove the adhesives from the previous installation, not to mention the danger to yourself in moving the pieces, without the proper knowledge or equipment. The cost savings will most likely be minimal. In my market, a base price granite/quartz can be installed for around $60/sq.ft., and less than 25% of that is the raw material costs. So, on a standard sized, 50 sq.ft. kitchen, only $750 is the cost of the slab. Unless you find one that fits exactly as it is, it's not worth much. If a friend asks if you want to buy their old granite, just politely decline, and if your friend has a friend who works with granite, so you think this sounds like a great idea, one of you might just lose a friend. Rant over. If anyone has questions about the process, or how to maximize the value of your project, while minimizing costs, just ask.

Are you recommending granite, quartz or quartzite kitchen countertops for better return on resale?

When a client is remodeling a kitchen for resale, I'm noticing that granite is looking dated in some homes. Is granite, quartz or quartzite best for return on resale in your area? What part of the country are you in?

Thanks!

White Quartz Countertops - help with staining and scratches!

I did a search on all the posts here regarding white quartz and couldn't find anything, so I'm hoping someone can help me! For some reason my app isn't letting me upload a photo either, so I'll try to explain as best I can.

We recently moved into a new house with brand new white quartz countertops. I feel like I'm being gaslit, in the sense that everyone (builder, family, internet, countertop company) all say how little maintenance white quartz is, and "you just need to wash with soap and water!"

What I have experienced is that in the last 3 weeks of living here, we have black marks from metal bowls, pots (not hot), and keys that rest on the countertop - I don't even want to say scratch, because we are SO careful. I've taken these out with Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. Then we have staining from some berries that sat on there for maybe 15 minutes, and I can still see a faint ring around the bowl after using soap and water. Yesterday I saw a bright green spot on my bathroom counter (I'm guessing mouthwash or toothpaste) that doesn't want to come out at all.

The biggest thing that bothers me are these dark grey smudges that I can't get out at all. It's like...when a left handed person writes on a piece of paper with pencil, and their hand smudges up the graphite on the paper. This is the best way I can think of describing it. Dirt/oil smudges that don't come out.

Basically any help with these white quartz countertops would be appreciated since I feel like I'm going crazy trying to keep it pristine while everyone tells me how low maintenance they are/should be.

I have tried:

  • dawn soap and water
  • soap and water and a bit of rubbing alcohol
  • BKF soft cleanser
  • Weiman stone cleaner and polisher
  • Mr Clean magic eraser

Thank you!

Quartz countertop absorbs every little stain - what to do?

Is there anything we can apply to clean without destroying, or apply to seal the countertop?

A strawberry leaking juice would have a stain that takes days of baking soda and scrubbing to remove. I think the past year of using clorox wipes to clean might not have been helpful. Ideally we want to seal it with something that reduce the porosity of the stone countertop. Thanks!

Trying to determine granite or quartz countertop

Hello everyone! I was reading a post earlier about countertops and being able to determine just by looking at them what they are, so I figured maybe someone could help me?

We just bought this house this past fall, and in a little over our head just by being able to keep up with everything as first time home owners.

Whether it’s granite or quartz or something else? And the best way to care for it.. the first 2 pics were part of the listing for the house and the 3rd one is one I just took of the underside of the island.

Thank you!

I will be installing a backsplash shortly. See below link to picture. I see videos online that show how to do it for granite but just want to make sure for quartz if its any different. Need advice on how to remove 4 inch countertop backsplash that is quartz without damaging countertop and minimizing drywall repair. Would like to minimize. Can I heat the area with a heat gun?

Would appreciate the advice.

Cut a 4' section of quartz countertop with the 7" Chicago Electric Wet Saw

I don't know if I'm disappointed or impressed. Used a diamondback blade. Got the tile saw to do my backsplash, worked great for 6x6" marble tile. Decided to cut down a small run of quartz that was used as a sill for my window.

Had to adjust the fence several times, the saw bogged down constantly and I had to cut 2' from either side because there was so much resistance while cutting through the middle section that I couldn't do one straight run. I probably did damage to the motor, but I got the $30 2 year warrantee so if it doesn't make it through the 1-2 easy tile projects I have coming up it'll still have been worth it.

Clearly the wrong tool for the job, I get it. After doing all that I was thinking to myself what a piece of shit! But at the end of the day it worked. Maybe not so bad after all. Anyway, rant over. No ragrets.

Is this normal? Quartz countertop install

Our new quartz countertop was installed yesterday. Yea! After they left, we noticed that, if you put a straight edge on top of the seams, both ends do not touch at the same time. If one end is touching the countertop, there is what we think is a significant amount of daylight clearly visible on the other end. The cabinet installers even noticed it and said we needed to get it fixed. But when the countertop supervisor came, he said he was an expert (said quite condescendingly, I might add), and it was fine. No shimming was done, at least that we can see. The seam itself appears to be fine, but the two pieces of quartz are not flat. Is this normal? This is my first post to Reddit; if I can figure out how to do it, I will post a picture and video. We don’t want to make a mountain out of a molehill, but we also don’t want to be taken advantage of, either. The supervisor said they would come back and add some shims, but he was very reluctant to do so. FYI - we have not paid this subcontractor yet.

How much should quartz countertops cost?

I have selected a Calacatta quartz. My contractor is giving me a price of $5.5k for 45 sq ft. I would only have one under mount stainless sink and a single hole for kitchen faucet. The quartz I’ve selected should not be more that $80-100 per sq ft and the cutouts I require are the basic minimum. An estimate from Home Depot is only $3.2k. My contractor refuses to give me more detail as to why that price is so high. If he’s charging me a markup or additional delivery costs because I’m in a condo building, he’s not being upfront about that either. Is this a big enough deal that I should walk away from this contractor?

Update: I think I’m going to slow down and shop for more quotes.

2cm vs 3cm quartz countertop - home resale value

Hi all,

We are buying a new house and we have a dilemma what quartz thickness to choose for kitchen and bath countertops

2cm is already included into the house cost but 3cm requires $4k extra

We definitely prefer thicker option in terms of the look

Do you think it is worth spending extra amount for +1cm and will it increase the resale value of the home?

Thanks!

How should an undermount sink be attached to a quartz countertop?

I recently had a new countertop and undermount sink installed in my kitchen. They siliconed the edge andd then screwed a strap into the sides of the cabinet to secure the sink. This seemed odd to me. The sink came with clips, but they said they were for wood tops.

https://imgur.com/a/2YEqsU5

I thought they would have made holes and used an epoxy to secure them.

Does this seem right?

KASKER vs OXSTEN quartz countertops - same supplier?

Hi all -

I had Caesarstone counterstops in the USA and absolutely loved them. It's my understanding that the KASKER line in the USA uses Caesarstone as their supplier.

Is the Oxsten line in Europe also Caesarstone? I can't find much detail about it.

Not all quartz is created equal and I would love to buy Caesarstone for my new remodel here in Budapest.

Thank you!

Quartz Countertop Experiences

I am redoing my kitchen and I want the countertops to be white (looking to get Calcutta). From everything I have read it appears quartz are very stain resistant, however, all of my friends who have white quartz talk about the awful staining they have experienced.

Do any of you have similar staining issues?

I understand all stones may stain and this might be more noticeable because it is white as opposed to a darker granite, but just looking for feedback on your experiences with white quartz countertops.

Should I sack the quartz and go with a granite that is heat resistant and less noticeable to a stain?!?

TIA
