I was out to dinner with my family for an early mother's day. I don't know how we got into the topic, but I started explaining the GME situation to them. My dad ( a retired day trader) and my brother in-law (an accountant) started ripping me apart and made me feel like a complete fool for investing in GME. My dad even said he might buy some puts on Monday π. So anyways, I'm driving home feeling all sorts of FUD. And right at the peak of my self wallowing, a car rockets past me. Not just any car, but a GREEN LAMBO!!! My tits have never been jacked harder. If that's not a sign, then signs don't exist. I feel ashamed to my fellow apes for the amount of FUD that I felt and want you all to know I'll be hodling till the end. Obligatory: ππππππ
The updated Russian State flag
So, this is odd. A rework progress report that needs a preface? What gives?
Well, hereβs the thing. The coming Russia Rework is going to change how Russia works in some pretty big ways - but those are for good reasons, beyond the simple βwe want it that wayβ. Since KR fans sometimes tend to take exception when we make such changes, weβve been a little leery of just dropping the PR on you all without prepping you for whatβs coming and perhaps explaining ourselves a bit.
I think we can all agree that the Russian lore and gameplay is showing its age. It (and some of the other tags, such as Don Kuban and Transamur) was originally built to revolve around the appearance of a Second Russian Civil Warβ¦ which, while keeping Russia βbusyβ in the same way that the USA is kept busy by its civil war, made even less sense considering the Bolsheviks were handed a complete defeat in the first war. Itβs been rather a sore spot, especially back when it took forever and didnβt even offer the kind of mid-war content that the 2ACW didβ¦ all to service a situation which seemed far too much like the first Russian Civil War just being given a do-over, which Russia (and its entire military and civilian leadership) magically transported 18 years into the future as if nothing had happened in-between.
That led to the more recent updates to the Russian content, where an attempt was made to either fix or remove many of the code paths which didnβt work well, and which the Russian Civil War was made far less likely to happen. We wanted to remove it entirely, but that ended up revealing just how much content depended on it happeningβ¦ and then we found ourselves in a situation where the appearance of the civil war really ended up determining how strong Russia would be against Germany, a primary balancing factor in WK2. Russia (and other associated tags, such as Transamur) have been left in a strange half-state.
All of this needs to be sorted. The civil war needs to be removed, but there still needs to be plenty for Russia to do, including checks and balances upon it, as this isnβt a rework which can simply pretend it exists only for the lore. Russia has too much effect on every nation around it to be a political simulator.
To that end, weβve taken a bold step: Russia will begin the game as National Populist.

I have seen and heard a lot of arguments from the resident libertarians and ancaps of the sub recently, that oligopoly and, for that matter, massive corporations generally, have only achieved such massive power due to their support by big government, and due to government regulations (such as regulations to secure workers' rights which small businesses can't afford as easily, or the existence of patents and intellectual property halting entrepreneurs or competition, etc.).
Altogether, the general narrative appears to be that cronyism and government intervention has skewed capitalism towards the benefit of massive corporations, cartels, oligopolies and so forth. And therefore, according to the aforementioned narrative, this is why the major issues of present-day capitalism exist, and with a freer market these problems would go away. If this were the case, then the accumulation of wealth and power by big business is unjust and illegitimate, because it has only gained such status without sufficient competition due to government interference, which is apparently the great source of injustice.
You want to implement a free market system that will be more just, yes? So why should you let the current corporate bigwigs and any capitalists reliant on government support for their success, to retain the advantages of accumulated wealth which they have accrued unjustly up to this point? Wouldn't allowing them to retain said advantage be implicitly legitimising the very thing you claim is at the root of crony capitalism's illegitimacy (i.e. reliance on government support and/or regulation)?
David Pakman came up with a pertinent analogy about a group of people playing the boardgame Monopoly, which I'd like to bring up. The analogy is, that if there are three players who start at the same time, but then the fourth joins half way into the game, perhaps even once all the properties are bought up and have loads of houses on them or something, that fourth person is going to be at the disadvantage for the rest of the game because the others got an unfair head start - it's not an even playing field.
If you oppose legitimising the advantages bestowed by cronyism, surely you'd have to start your new, pure free market society on an even playing field? How would you go about doing this - would you be prepared to consider directly breaking up the major corporations or engaging in certain amoun

Welcome to the Fourth Annual Subreddit Reread! Breaking Dawn marks the final reread of the core books for this reread cycle, but never fret, future rereads centered on The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner and Midnight Sun are in the works, as well are circling back around to Twilight! As always, I ask that you are respectful of your fellow readers, especially as this book handles more sensitive subjects.
To say that Breaking Dawn is controversial amongst fans is an understatement - many have very strong feelings, both positive and negative, surrounding how the series was completed. This reread is designed to approach the text with fresh eyes, and I ask that you approach with the intent for a civilized discussion, rather than letting discussion devolve into warring factions.
If you are under the age of 16, please tread lightly in this year's reread. As the book deals with more adult topics, so will our discussions, and it is not the job of our primarily of age readers to filter out discussion that isnβt appropriate for younger readers.
I will be linking to appropriate educational sources as these chapters come along, but please advocate for yourself in deciding if these topics are something you can handle this summer - the discussion boards will always be out there for you to revisit later on if you arenβt quite ready yet!
Our schedule goes from today, May 25th 2021, to October 26th 2021, when it closes out with a Movie Discussion. While this is a significantly longer reread period than previous summers, the decision was made to give Breaking Dawn more breathing room for discussion, especially as the longest book in the series.
No links are to be provided anywhere within this series, so please do not ask for any PDF links, or film streaming links.
The exact schedule breakdown is as follows.
Schedule
June 1st - Engaged, Long Night
June 8th - Big Day, Gesture
June 15th - Isle Esme, Distractions

Some helpful things to know about Nietzsche and Thus Spoke Zarathustra: When Nietzsche wrote Thus Spoke Zarathustra, he did so in a . . .
> ". . . most remarkable [way]. He himself made a verse about it. He said: 'Da wurde eins zu zwei und Zarathustra ging an mir vorbei,' which means: 'Then one became two and Zarathustra passed by me,' meaning that Zarathustra then became manifest as a second personality in [Nietzsche]. That would show that he had himself a pretty clear notion that he was not identical with Zarathustra. But how could he help assuming such an identity in those days when there was no psychology? Nobody would then have dared to take the idea of a personification seriously, or even of an independent autonomous spiritual agency. Eighteen eighty-three was the time of the blooming of materialistic philosophy. So he had to identify with Zarathustra in spite of the fact that he felt, as this verse proves, a definite difference between himself and the old wise man. Then his idea that Zarathustra had to come back to mend the faults of his former invention, is psychologically most characteristic; it shows that he had an absolutely historical feeling about it. He obviously felt quite clearly that the experience of that figure was archetypal. It brought something of the breath of centuries with it, and it filled him with a peculiar sense of destiny: he felt that [Zarathustra] was called to mend a damage done in the remote past of mankind [(introducing the concept of good and evil)]." (Nietzsche's Zarathustra, pg 9, CG Jung)
Nietzsche felt Zarathustra manifested himself much in the same sense that Ahura Mazda met with Zarathustra:
> Ahura Mazda, the greatest god, the wise man, is generally supposed to be Zarathustra's creation, and he came to that formulation probably through inner experiences of which his story tells. These experiences are called in the old literature, "Meetings and Questionings"; that is, he met Ahura Mazda, or his spoken word called Vohu Mano, meaning the good attitude. The German word for Vohu Mano would be: die gute Gesinnung, the good attitude, a good intention, a good word, the right word. We could easily translate it, with no particular philosophical difficulty, by the Christian concept of the Logos; the spoken word represents God in the incarnated form, the Logos as incarnated in Christ would be the exact counterpart of Vohu Mano. One finds the same concept in Islam in the mystical

Why in the world would he completely spoil the ending in the preface?? I appreciated his insights into translation in general and specifically as it pertains to the difficulty with FK but what the hell.. it definitely took a little something out of the experience to know the ending beforehand.. anyone else notice this?
To end on a brighter note, amazing book π

SPLATOON 3 WISHLIST:
New Idols are an Inkling Girl and an Octoling Boy
The hub area is much larger than in the previous two games, with lots of little side alleys and hidden areas to explore. With all the added space, many of the features you could access in the menus such as changing your hairstyle have now been given their own designated shops/buildings.
You can now choose your hair (ink colour) outside of battle in the hub. It's very customizable, with you being able to choose a mix of two colours.
There is a new Team Death match mode in which the first team to get a certain amount of kills wins. As you have a really small health pool in Splatoon, your health is increased in this mode. You can also find different weapons scattered throughout the map, with teams at a disadvantage having better weapons spawn on their side of the map.
A new version of turf war where there are 3 teams, and thus three ink colours, fighting against each other. Because of this, many maps have to be modified to make it equal.
All the returning maps have been very revamped, with a new aesthetic and new gimmicks. Most of the returning maps are maps from the original splatoon that never got ported over to splatoon 2, but with a twist.
you can choose 2 weapons to go into a turf war or ranked match with, with only ONE opportunity to change to the other per match. This gives each game more variety.
you can choose two sub weapons to bring into a match, too, but they can be switched between as many times as you like. There is a cooldown, however.
Apartments: these are animal crossing style, fully customizable rooms that every player has access to in the main hub area. They are just as customizable as the animal crossing homes, and, as you play through the story mode, you'll unlock plushies, posters, furniture and more that you can use to decorate your apartment. Your friends can also visit them.
There is a new salmon run style horde mode with a much larger variety in gameplay. Sometimes you'll be asked to protect a certain character, kill a certain amount of enemies ,or do something else: the objective is always changing, but you also have to stay alive.
The story mode has you using a vast train network to traverse different parts of the now post apocalyptic earth, as you are a researcher tasked with learning about what exactly caused the cataclysm and where Inklings remain. Whilst it is in no way open world, it does feature many open areas with lots

Stay safe. Stay stronk. Stay ape.
Personally, I think that it is kind of sad that people who are providing constructive criticism or their opinion (NOT hating) like saying 'I personally do not like __'s comeback' or 'I'm not a fan of ___'s dance style' have to preface their posts with something along the lines of 'Before I start, I just want to say that I have been a fan of [insert group/idol] for many years and I loved [insert something about the group/idol].' It makes it feel like fans can't share their own opinion freely, and, if they do, it'll just be marked as 'hate.'

Iβve noticed that there are plenty of leftist independent media networks, but thereβs a surprisingly minuscule amount of anarchists who have independent media networks. Are there any good anarchist YouTube channels or media sources out there?
Why YSK: you should know this because nowadays, nearly everyone skips small talk, which is why so many conversations can quickly go south, as people have not properly guaged the mood and or personality of the person they are talking to.
Is it worth it to read the prefaces of nietzsche's books? I just bought most of his discography ( Genealogy of morals, beyond good and evil, anti Christ, ecce homo, twilight of the idols, the case of wagner, nietzsche contra wagner, thus spoke zarathustra and the will to power) which of these books are even worth reading the preface on?
PREFACE
Power was mostly gained by physical violence and maintained with brute strength, woman were the ones who suffered because they didnβt possess an adequate gun to compete. Well, they already had one: sex, but once they had sex with a man, the man became powerful again. Here is when women invented seduction. Helene of Troy and Cleopatra are historical examples.
Time after, men had to come up with a neat solution because most women resisted sex. Men began to use seduction techniques, and added a new masculine element: they discover the power of words, the Achilles heel of women.
The feminine element to seduce was the physique and the masculine element to seduce was the language (even though, you can mix them).
This battle to obtain power wasnβt solely between genders, Napoleon was a great example but this wasnβt a person-to-person situation, he seduced masses: he convinced and charmed people, accumulated power without using force. This is called CHARISMA,
In these times, itβs inadmissible to use force, now more than ever, we have to know how to use our charismatic and seductive abilities so we can persuade them in every aspect of life. It has to be subtle, we see it everywhere: on publicity and political campaigns. Even though the essence and scope have changed, seduction is constant: DONβT BE DIRECT NOR FORCEFUL, INSTEAD USE PLEASURE AS BAIT, PLAY WITH THEIR EMOTIONS, STIRRING DESIRE AND CONFUSION, INDUCING PSYCHOLOGICAL SURRENDER.
People will always try to dissuade or convince us of something. When we fall in love we are another person: we canβt think straight, we act erratically, we act i

Somewhere, in a dark abyss of cosmos, is one small yellow star.
And on the third orbit of that star orbits a small rocky unnamed planet with three moons and three continents.
And on those continents lives three groups of intelligent beings.
Is strange, that not even one of those beings didnβt gave a name to this world or to its satellites. Maybe it was because one of those beings, having usually three pairs of limbs, do not consider it important to give name to places where their wings didnβt carry them and where they didnβt dive with their fins thus an existence for them existed only between those heights. And maybe that's why their world didnβt receive honor to be endowed by name because it was by them the only one so there wasnβt reason to distinguish it from others. Thus only the continents were honored by the name, which were called: Pyrrhia, Pantala and Pisaurida.
And the same one beings consider themselves as the everlasting rulers of this speck of the universe. Which wasnβt and never be true, because as the universe itself: nothing is eternal and everything one day will perish.
And the living evidence of this fact, was the rest groups of the beings. One, like the first one, was from the animal kingdom and another was from the kingdom of plants. That last mentioned was spreading out in rain forests of the Pantala and with its sprouts consumed everything that was alive. And like a puppeteer pulling the strings of their puppets controlled everyone who was infected by their spores.
In contrast, another race, although compared to other races small weak and almost bald creatures without natural weapons, arousing an impression of inability of something like that, equipped only by their hands and their mind full of immeasurable ideas, like the first one, at the ancient times ruled to most of the land and consider themselves as undeposible sovereigns of this planet. Even those beings during their reign builded breathtaking structures, created the unseen wonders of the world and discovered the most mysterious secrets of magic and laws of space, whereas their songs and voices resonated with the world. And they achieved all of these because their minds were able to imagine those wonderful things and then to bring them to reality by their creativity.
But nevertheless their hands weren't able to create just a beautiful thing but also evil things, created to commit pain and death. And their mind was no different:

Look I get it, people have it, but itβs gotten to the point where people blame everything in their life on βanxietyβ and I feel like lots of people use it as a crutch to not do something or to make excuses.
Got a big test coming up? Itβs not anxiety, you just want to do well! Thatβs completely normal! Wedding come up soon? Guess what, everyone gets nervous before their wedding!
Perhaps itβs my military background, but I get kind of sick of hearing about everyoneβs anxiety. It seems like literally everyone has anxiety now and I feel like itβs just a part of life. You either learn to deal with it or you let it hold you back and control you.
On story subs like r/AmITheAsshole or r/RelationshipAdvice people always say βIβm on mobile so sorry for the weird formattingβ what happens to the formatting of you type something on mobile but view it on a computer?
I get why people preface with English not being their first language, but are people really going to berate someone for their format for posting on mobile?

No, just me?
Housekeeping first: the day-by-day schedule is here. There are three people rotating taking a week each (Sunday to Saturday) posting the daily discussion threads. Whilst we aim to have them up at a fairly consistent time, we are humans and sometimes things get in the way. Also, time zones and daylight savings are factors. The result of the poll was a chapter-a-day, no splits, no occasional two-day discussions for the long chapters.
Discussions prompts:
What is your background, history, general awareness of The Three Musketeers and Alexandre Dumasβ work?
Which version are you reading?
Thoughts on the conceit of the publication of a βforgotten manuscriptβ as a literary tool?
Note: there are some long chapters in this book, and chapter 1 is one of them! Get yourself a cup of tea and settle in for it.

I thought it was "lampshading" but the google says I am wrong. I think it's a verb I'm looking for though.
An example would be like, "I'm pretty bad at writing and I know this is trash, but would you mind looking over this draft for me?"
Edit: the word I'm thinking of is simply "downplaying". "Hedging" is a close and reasonable synonym though. Thanks u/ondageist
