The solution is to stop using straws!
You don’t need to invent something new to help people drink. This is not a problem. People have been drinking liquids for thousands of years without straws. In what crazy universe did a straw become a necessity?
I know the simple answer is "Westminster Council", I just want to express frustration and start some discussion here about pedestrianising Oxford Street (and/or other areas. Regent Street? The Strand?)
I last went to Oxford Street probably a year ago, and the last time before then was probably a year or two before. I tend to avoid it because the pavements are too narrow, allowing for the road space, the busses and taxis thunder along and like most of Central London, it's highly polluted.
I remember going relatively frequently when younger, it's a shame it's not an inviting environment.
Especially now with the closure of some major retailers (Top Shop, most of the department stores circling the drain), it would be nice to make it a nice place to wander, with outdoor dining & gardens.
There are lots of other cities with similar promenades that are nice, the Zeil in Frankfurt, Buchanan St in Glasgow, George St in Sydney. I wish we had something similar.
This has worked for me a lot lately, because after I get blue science, I'm producing too much pollution on a large area, but hunting nests its too dangerous and fixing turrets takes most of my time.
By this point, you should have a fairly established mall, so even when you turn off the electric power and mining outputs, you should have a good supply of walls, turrets, assembly machines, inserters, belts, etc.
Without pollution, attacks will stop occurring and you can focus on building purple or yellow science, perhaps a nuclear plant system, or what I like to do, which is build construction bots and roboports and a massive line of defense around my perimeter.
The factory must grow, yes, but it's easier to fix an engine that's turned off.
Edit: WOW you guys are awesome, loved the rewards, thank you so much ♥ Some people agreed with the tip and some gave their own strategies, but overall, factorio has the best community. Again, you guys are awesome. PD: English is not my first language, I'm sorry for misspelling "Biters" with "Bitters", but loved the puns anyway.
I live across King Edward from the 250 Besserer construction site.
This is the third time, in under three weeks, that they have left the construction crane lighting on overnight.
These strong LEDs are at the level of my condo -- the picture below shows how bright the lighting shining into my condo is. I could honestly read by this light pollution.
I'm recovering from a bad concussion, so even with a sleep mask and blinds, it's still so bright I can't sleep at all with this, which only makes my health condition worse.
I've reported this to By Law each time, I spoke with the workers on the construction site after the first time, and I also reached out to the developer of the site the second time. I also reached out to my local city councillor's office, but received no reply.
All of them agree the light shouldn't be on overnight, and yet, this is now the third time (12/18, 12/31, and tonight) that it's on, and will be on until someone turns it off tomorrow.
Sigh...is there anyone else I can contact about this?
