Looking for a climbing partner. I am climbing for over 6 years now. I prefer to lead climb tho Iβm okay to do top-rope as well. Cheers.
Yesterday I was at planet granite Portland. After entering my partner and I were toproping and while I was on the wall I heard something loudly hit the mat. My first instinct was that someone was leading and the fell from the first or second clip with too much slack in the system, then the screaming started. I looked around to see other confused and concerned faces and I asked my partner to lower me. After I got down and untied we turned the corner to a pretty horrific scene. A guy was lying on the ground in pretty bad shape, all around messed up. His legs were basically destroyed (tons of visible fractures, bleeding, bone protruding). After talking to some people we found out he fell from the very top of the top rope section which is around 55 feet tall. Fortunately for him there were medical professionals who were climbing and began treating him almost immediately. We watched the whole process until after 911 arrived and rushed him off. This leads me to a few questions. Was anyone else there that has more information? Does anyone know this guy? If so, is he ok? I think I have trauma, is that possible? How do I get back into climbing when right now the idea repulses me? All things considered heβs insanely lucky he survived that fall. I hope heβs ok.
Peace and love βοΈ
UPDATE Iβm feeling a lot better after the incident. Thank you for all your support and your suggestions. I recently learned the climber who fell is alive and beginning to recover. Once again thank you all so much!
hey SFers! i have been rock climbing for about a month now and have been enjoying it a lot... currently at about level 5.10A... if there's anyone who is interested in being partners at belmont PG, PM me so we can schedule a time to climb together! looking forward to meeting new people from this sub!
Hi,
As the title says, I lost a necklace with a pendant that looks like this. I was just wondering if anyone has seen it. It's a unique pendant that would be nearly impossible to replace.
Thanks
Did anyone else see the fall this afternoon? A kid fell from about 25 feet -- the "T" on the ABC route. Afterwards I saw the staff inspecting his knot -- looked fine. Also the woman belaying him was clearly clipped in because she tried to run with him in her arms and was stopped by the rope. The only thing I can think of is that his harness snapped or that he was tied in on something else that didn't hold. As far as I could tell he was ok. The woman (probably mom) carried him out of the gym after the paramedics checked him out. But the whole thing freaked me out pretty good and I would like to know what happened.
Prefer mornings but could do night! Additionally, mostly looking for a weekday partner.
Just looking for a belay buddy. Tonight or wednesday afternoon.
Cheers,
Alex (32, guy, driving back to sonoma on thursday after all my stuff is finished up here)
I'm a member of Planet Granite and have a guest pass that expires on October 1st. I would really like to climb tonight or tomorrow (the 29th and 30th) but all of my normal partners are busy. I could request a partner at the desk, but I don't want my guest pass to go to waste. I am a safe and attentive belayer, lead or TR.
By the way, even if you don't want to climb, this guest pass gets you a whole day of free fitness and yoga classes. I can't stand to see this going to waste.
Looking for a consistent climbing/training partner for PG sunnyvale to climb during the day mid week (ideally 3 times a week). Lead climbing preferred.
Does anybody have experience going to both especially since PRG's expansion?
I'm torn between the two in regards of membership. I live in inner SE but would still drive anyways.
I'm still a beginner but like top roping and bouldering. Does PRG have a steam room?
Did anybody else see this tonight or have any more information about what happened? I only caught it out of the corner of my eye, but some guy took a gnarly fall tonight while top-roping at the Planet Granite in Sunnyvale around 9pm. He was at least half way up on the tallest wall at the gym.
Paramedics were called, but I think the guy was ok (he was at least talking and able to move limbs). Apparently he landed face down on the mat and bounced like 3-4 feet into the air.
It looked like his knot completely failed, and some people were wondering if he was even tied in at all. You could see the figure-8 dangling on the rope about halfway up the wall after he fell.
Everyone in my group was pretty shaken up and we definitely triple checked all of our knots for the rest of the night (and will continue to do so going forward).
Be safe out there and double check your knots! This guy was lucky to not be horribly horribly injured.
I'm looking for a regular lead climbing partner to climb with at Planet Granite. Safety is by far the most important consideration for me so I'm looking for someone who also wants to do things as safely as possible including doing a full safety check each time and watching the climber closely to make sure that they don't miss any bolts, backclip, z-clip or make other dangerous mistakes.
We can top rope the first time to get to know each other a bit before leading.
Hey guys, if you know anyone who lost a female pitbull, Sunnyvale animal control has your dog!
Female pitbull looks to be around 2-3 years old
Anybody know what happened? I was walking by earlier and saw an ambulance and firetrucks. They were wheeling a person out that was fully immobilized. Seems like gym accidents are becoming more and more frequent (if this was indeed a climbing related accident). Anyways, I hope they are ok!
Any thoughts on the gym or the surrounding areas?
I'm moving to San Jose for the summer (from Washington, DC) and I'm considering trying to live as close to Planet Granite Sunnyvale as I can.
I'm looking for a lead partner who is serious about safety. I'm also interested in climbing outside and usually climb weekday evenings but am also available other times.
I normally lead up to 5.10 and top-rope up to 5.11 though at the moment I am mostly sticking to easier stuff due to recovering from an injury.
Hi there, I am pretty new into climbing and looking for climbing or top roping partner. I'm about 2 months in, usually boulder v1-v2 and sent first v3 last week and climb up to 5.10a. Most of my friends like to boulder so I can't find a reliable top roping partner so I thought I'd try here! I usually climb tue/thu nights 7:30 - 11 pm and either sat or sun.
Hey guys, I use to climb 1-3 times a week in the morning but my friends schedule changed and can no longer climb with me in the morning. I'm looking for someone who wants to climb 2-3 times a week in the morning at planet granite. Ideally need someone who's a member. I've been a member for over a year but still a noob as I don't go consistently enough. I am only belay certified and haven't done the lead climb certification yet.
How long do I need to train before being able to climb at planet granite?
My regular partner ditched me to focus more on bouldering. :) Seeking a few reliable, regular partners.
Started climbing in June this year and fell in love w/ the sport. So far, I've only gone indoors. Climb around 11a-b (closer to b) right now at PGSV. I go M/W/F from 7-9am ish.
Hit me up if you want to try climbing together to see if we'd be compatible as partners!
My usual climbing partner is out of the country for 3 months so I'm looking for a top rope climbing partner. If you're a member at planet granite and also looking for someone to climb with hit me up. I like to go weekday evenings and early Sunday morning.
Is the climber OK? Any idea on what caused the accident?
