Plagioclase is now the 4th conqueror of Kalmos's Vault

The 4th ever Kalmos Vault Heist took place today on January the 5th 2013 from 15:00 GMT to 16:28 GMT.

The event started with me crawling inside a box of dirt and writing a riddle as creepy eyes observed outside. At 15:00 I busted out of my coccoon of dirt with my Efficiency IV super shovel and left people to ponder on the riddle.

The people that were there right from the start were creeperphilia, teddylover, TheRandomnatrix, tompreuss, hamsale and Legofan970, who I hadn't seen in months.

People joined in while others left. At one point only teddylover remained as a competitor, so I and Quacksol lured some more unsuspecting victims to play; people like thrawn21, Norami and Plagioclase, our protagonist.

Time went by. People found out that not all clues were legitimate ones. I went to the sauna to resupply on my finnishness. People made fun of #KalmosTime. Good times were had.

But then, out of nowhere a sound was heard. The sound I was longing to hear. The sound of the Vault's note blocks playing their simple melody. dink BLONK! The jaws of the Vault opened. I asked who opened it. It was Plagioclase. I asked if he knew the code. He did. The heist was won.

As for what happened after that, then I remembered I should totally document this so I made this nifty Imgur album. Somehow I didn't think documenting this would be important any earlier.

Congratulations to Plagioclase for his victory. He will now be joining the mighty halls of Kalmos's master thieves where he'll drink mead and sing songs of bravery alongside teddylover, asvdveen and buzzie71.

Significance of different types of twinning in plagioclase?

What (if anything) can be inferred about petrogenetic processes from the orientation and type (albite, simple, polysynthetic) of twinning in plagioclase feldspar in schists? Does twinning direction have a relation to the foliation (and thus give kinematic indicators)?

As a separate question, what is the significance sericite alteration of plagioclase? Google seems to indicate it is hydrothermal alteration but I have not been very satisfied with the answers I've found.

Thanks in advance, any input is much appreciated.

Help-- I have a thin section that has a matrix of crystallographically-aligned plagioclase and I don't know what it means! I would love some help from any petrologists out there.

I'm working on a petrologic analysis of some thin sections, and one of them has a fine-grained plag matrix that has a crystallographic alignment (the rest don't show any alignment). They're all of different samples of andesite/dacite from Glacier Peak, WA. My professor talked about how to find a crystallographic orientation, but never really went over what it means. Google isn't helping me either for some reason.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
