Yesterday I drilled through a wall expecting a stud and instead was met with hot water gushing all over the foyer, because for some reason the builders put it in what I saw as an obvious place for a coat rack (EDIT: This sentence has upset a few people - I am not being serious, I don't know enough to know where pipes should go, this is a disparaging joke about myself, not me trying to drag the original builder. As I've commented a few times, tradespeople are the ones who keep life moving and working while dummies like myself throw more things on the internet.). That said, repairing a pipe is easy, even for total novices (EDIT: I assumed PVC pipes for this, it's much harder with other types). But yesterday we were having a blizzard, which meant we could neither have someone come here nor could we go to the hardware store. This morning I paid a plumber almost $200 to come at 7am and do 10 minutes of very easy work so we could shower and get going with our days on time.
I brushed my teeth with strawberry spindrift last night, and washed my face by boiling down some snow and then waiting for it to cool down. Please learn from my mistake. Happy holidays!
Edits for repeated comments:- There probably isn't a thing called a "pipe repair kit" you can just go buy. I should have said, know what kind and what size(s of) pipes you have, get a few extra feet of it; get cutters appropriate for the material; get couplers. Others have suggested something called "shark bites" which I've never heard of but I'm gonna go investigate!
- I was tired and panicky and didn't even know that hot water shutoffs were a thing. That's something I'm gonna go check out tonight and see - thanks everyone!
- Finally, I'm a woman, in case that matters to anyone - I keep seeing "he" and normally I wouldn't bother correcting, but I want women on this sub to know that we can also fix things and should know our way around basic repairs.
- For those who implied or outright stated that I'm an idiot for making a mistake: you must not learn new things very often. Do better.
Final Edit:
I didn't do a great job writing this post, as there's a lot of confusion. I know where the water shutoff is and used it within a minute. As prior mentioned above, I was joking when I blamed the builder, sorry if that wasn't clear. I had no intention of painting myself as an expert on this post, and I don't even know how someone would read it that way, but that's happening. Finally, for t

βShould you pull the pipesβ information
Pipes are given points based on four different factors. A percentage of points go towards each of these factors. These factors include:
- (30pts) Spotlights β How good each spotlight is in the pipe.
- (10pts) Spotlights type β Whether there are more drivers, karts, or gliders. Usually the best go in the order of drivers, gliders, then karts, so a pipe with more drivers will be given more points than a pipe with more karts.
- (10pts) Non-Spotlights β What other High-Ends and Supers are available in the pipe that usually wouldnβt be there.
- (15pts) Ranked Usage β What items in the pipe you may need for ranked in the current tour.
- (35pts) Pipe Elements β The odds of getting High-Ends and Supers compared to Normals. How many items in the pipe are also considered.
All spotlights will be given a score out of 10. These scores out of 10 will then be added and converted to fit into the 30% ratio. Spotlights that are new with the current tour will be graded based on their item/skill and how they perform in the ranked cups of the tour. They will not be graded based on their favoured maps. The coffee machine was delivered and I was given the task of arranging the installation. For a start the layout of the place was terrible, not wash sink installed behind the counter, the owner really cheaped out on the plumbing.
The owner assured me that there was sufficient plumbing to the cold water piping and pointed out the pipe. Something was off and I maintained that the piping was actually part of the radiator system.
I was patronisingly told that I wasn't a plumber and I should just do as instructed. The machine was installed in a fashion straight off of said pipe.
The machine was filled and excitedly the owner insisted that I start making complimentary coffees for his friends.
Dutifully I made around 50 cups of coffee to friends and loved ones of the owner. When clean down time came I noticed that the water was running a dark brown. This wasn't noticed before as, hey - coffee's brown.
I emptied the entire pressure from the system and it still wasn't getting any clearer.
Long story short, plumber was called, my suspicions were confirmed and the owner had given 50 cups of radiator water coffee to his nearest and dearest. The machine had to be stripped to get the sediment out and the central heating system needed to be repressurised.
Tldr; I gave 50 people coffee made from water from a radiator.
I find it really immersion breaking to dig through a ruined building untouched by humans since before the war, only to find that apparently the CEO of that company had a hobby of making illegal firearms out of literal trash. It doesn't even make sense for safes that are in use most of the time. If it belongs to a non-combat heavy NPC then it makes sense, but when I clear out a gunner camp where everyone has shotguns and combat rifles, why do they feel the need seal up a rickety pea shooter? I'm sure there's a mod for this, but it seems like a pretty obvious oversight on Bethesda's part. I feel like anywhere more than 5 minutes from Concord shouldn't even have pipe pistols on the drop table (without good reason like the non-combatant NPC situation above). It doesn't even provide anything mechanically. Have you EVER actually taken one of those pipe pistols you found in a safe past Concord with the intention of using it? For pre-war safes the obvious choice would be 10mm pistols, equally useless to find past the early game, but at least they make sense to find in that context.
