What do you like and dislike about each of the three options?
Hello, I'm the proud owner of both models of CRKT Pilar. I've already upgraded the scales to copper, and I've read that the next most popular upgrade is phosphor bronze washers. Which model of the Pilar would benefit more from the upgrade? I spydieflick the original frequently so both would benefit from an action improvement.
I have a Benchmade 940-1 with phosphor bronze washers. They are silky smooth, but I know it will need some lubrication soon. What grease or oil is best for these washers?
Iβm planning on trying a different brand of strings, specifically DβaddarΓo strings, and there are two options of string types. I want extra light, but I have no idea what the difference is between Phosphor bronze and 80/20 Bronze.
Hey, as usual not trying to spam, but several people here have showed interest in me posting when they return. My replacement phosphor bronze washers for the CRKT Pilar have come back in stock. You can purchase them from my website, parsonsbladeworks.com
Thanks everyone
So, here's the story. My sister years ago gave me an classic guitar, pretty standard all around. Now, I have no idea about guitars, I'm a complete newb. And lately I was inspired to try and learn. The guitar, however had no strings. So I went online and bought these bronze phosphor extra light 10-47 strings. Now, being the idiot that I am, I thought that acoustic/classic guitars were the same thing. Apparently, they aren't. So, my question is, is it okay if I put these on, just because the tension is extra light? I read somewhere that it's okay to put bronze ones on a classic guitar if the tension is as low as the nylons. Am I even close to the truth? Please help.
Update: I got the proper strings, I've been playing almost non stop, my fingers are in pain. I'm currently going through the basic chords, I tried to learn a couple sounds but I realized that without learning the chords and generally the frets and the way the guitar behaves I won't ever learn an actual song. It's a slow process, but I'm digging it. Thanks a lot for the tips everybody.
Hello! Iβve recently picked up a Benchmade 781 Anthem and I love the knife, but I want to purchase washers to swap out the bearings. Can anyone here make some that they could sell to me? Iβm not very handy and I know I wouldnβt be able to get them to the tight tolerances of the knife, so Iβm hoping someone with more experience than I have can assist me, for a modest fee.
Thanks!
Up for sale or trade today is an excellent condition Hinderer XM-18 FATTY Spanto 3.5". C++ for mods (washer upgrade).
This thing is nice and beefy. A real work tool that's heavier duty than I need. No box. Asking $405obo SV (incl. ship)/ $420 TV (Trades only across or down). If you have questions, feel free to ask. Thanks.
Selling a Hinderer 3 inch XM18.
This guy has a beautiful bronze finish, catches fingerprints well and adds to the look. In the video you can see the light dance on the ano and itβs pretty darn nice. The blade is a light stone wash spanto grind, never used for more than a paper test.
Detent is typical Hinderer but as you can see in the action vid, an assertive push button will reliably send it flying open. Light switch not so much, just being honest. Iβm sure some tuning -along with the included PB washers- can make this puppy fire nice no matter the technique.
The knife is currently running on Teflon washers, including the footage in the action vid
Speaking of add ons. The knife is bundled with a generic pivot tool. It is not a Hinderer brand tool, but it works just as well for a fraction of what a real Hinderer pivot tool costs. Also included is 2 pairs of Phosphor bronze washers. One set is pre-polished and the other isnβt.
All original packaging included.
Asking $425 shipped.
No Canada. Sorry.
To Trade (preferably like new as possible):
mini crooked river
2nd gen Kizer Fiest.
ZT 0450cf.
Benchmade Anthem.
If any sort of deal is made I can throw in a LNIB Ruike P801 for free
Howdy!
For sale (no trades) is a Hinderer XM-18 Spearpoint 3.5". Bronze ano lockside, S35VN blade with mirror edge, 50% lockup, Good centering (a hair to the showside), Nice action with phosphor bronze washers (I can throw in some new teflon washers if you prefer them). Detent is a little on the soft side. SS hardware. It came with FDE scale (which I can include/install) but it has a black G10 scale at the moment. This knife is a user Hinderer. One you won't feel bad about really putting to work. Asking $335 TYD w/ FDE or black. $365 w/ FDE and black
Although I love my XM-18 I've always hated the fact that it ran on teflon washers, would it be possible to swap out the teflon for some phosphor bronze? Has anyone tried this and would it even be a good idea?
Has anyone strung their mandolin with both a Phosphor Bronze and an 80/20 string on the G and D rather than doubling one or the other? What is the sound like?
I had sort of an idea of doing it when restringing and changing from one to the other, but changing gauge as well I wouldn't have kept them on (and I was replacing the set anyway). If it weren't for the cost of two packs, would it be worth considering?
I'm a humongous fan of Elixirs, particularly their beautiful-sounding and immortal Nanoweb-coated phosphor bronze strings. I've been using their light gauge (12-54) for years, and I'm consistently pleased with their longevity and smooth tone. They tune up in seconds and stay there. The slickness from the coating actually helps me slide up and down the strings with less trouble. I couldn't be happier with them.
But...
Despite the fact that I adore the Elixirs, I can't shake the feeling that there may be something even better just around the corner, and I would have no idea. I go online and I see so many potential upgrades, and, now that I've got some money to burn, I'm thinking of assembling a little sampler of coated phosphors from other brands.
TL;DR - Which coated phosphor bronze strings would you recommend?
REQUIREMENTS: First, they need to be PHOSPHOR BRONZE, if you haven't caught on by now. I know the tone I like, and phosphors consistently win for me. Secondly, they need to be COATED. I know uncoated strings produce a richer tone, perhaps one I would enjoy endlessly more, but the fact of the matter is I have acid sweat that corrodes those strings so fast I can't get any enjoyment out of it. Finally, if you want to say D'Addario EXPs or Cleartones (or Martins with the Cleartone coating), FORGET ABOUT IT. I've already tried those, and they died so fast I didn't think they were coated at all. While I do understand the experience is subjective, I don't want to pay extra for a set of coated strings that last only marginally longer than an uncoated set.
Got it? Good. Please leave your inputs, and thanks so much for them! I'm already looking forward to what the community has to say.
Think this would be alright to try out rather than my usual light gun oil?
Title explains all, I am changing my strings to silk and something so it has a tone closer to what I want, but do I go silk and steel or silk and phosphor bronze? I've heard steel is less durable but has a more mellow tone which is sort of what I want.
generally carry around Enlan and SRM knives, the EL01, EL02 and 710, 763 the most often, but them and some of my other knives could probably use a inexpensive pivot upgrade. where would i find these? any good way to tell what size i need?
thanks!
