My (34F) perfume today forced me to change my outfit, and made me laugh in the process

At about 10 this morning, I was suddenly overcome with the urge to put on Tom Ford Black Orchid EDT that my father gifted to me a couple Christmases ago and I haven’t worn for at least 8 months.

To paint a picture, I was working at home, in a giant oversized grey hoodie and white sweatpants. 10 minutes after putting the perfume on, i felt a visceral urge to change my clothes as the powerhouse scent and my outfit were at such odds with each other. It was like I was turned into a marionette and Black Orchid was pulling the strings. Next thing I know, I’m in a black sweater I bought in Madrid, with black fur trim and golden embroidery, leather tights..by myself...at 10:15 in the morning..feeling like a boss.

or perhaps I totally just got played by a fragrance. Readers choice.

Some perfumes are just so magical.

That’s my story :) have a great weekend everyone!

[Perfume Guy] Cheaper Shipping Price Available now, New Arrivals, Maldives.....

Hello, guys Perfume Guy here,

So today I have a big announcement to make!

Cheaper Shipping Price Available now

After a long battle with Post-Serbia, I can proudly say that today we have better shipping prices!

Here are new shipping prices:

https://imgur.com/a/HUhU1qq

It's a big price difference, I am really glad we succeeded to get prices like this.

Since it's now by grams, here is an example of how much does each bottle weighs.

https://imgur.com/a/E9vmXEb

We added a weight calculator on checkout so you can see how much does your package weighs and it will automatically update the shipping price.

So now for example, if you want to buy 5x20ml, the weight will be 165g +80g from box = 245g (125-250g price)

That's almost twice as cheaper as the previous price was.

New Arrivals

We also added 3 new perfumes

Inspired by:

Montale Intense Cafe - Coffee Dream

Dior J'adiore - Bredore

Jean-Paul Gaultier Scandal - Drama Queen

They are available now on the website

Maldives

I'll be traveling to the Maldives on 17th February. If any RepFam is in the Maldives on that period, please hit me before that date and I'll bring you some perfume to try out and chill.

Again thank you very much for the support, and if you need any help, please let me know and I will be happy to help,

Much Love,

Chez

Perfumes that are kinda stinky but you can't stop wearing/huffing them anyway??

I have two of these now, perfumes that I love but they are so smelly. Jasmine is just so weird lol! I just got a decant of Solstice Scents White Feather, and oh my goodness, it's like, as my grandma would say, "ugly bug syndrome." Where you see a bug so ugly and weird, you are absolutely enraptured by it while simultaneously disturbed and a lil afraid.

Good lord, White Feather is such a gorgeous creamy scent that is just... well, a lil stanky to me. And I feel the same way about Sixteen92's Mina Harker. I know that jasmine is quite literally kind of smelly in general due to Science, but why is it so addictive?? I love them and I hate them and can't stop putting them on.

Does anyone else have a perfume fave that is also, like, absolutely kinda stinky and you know it and don't care? Animalic or indolic stuff, or something else entirely? Luckily oudh doesn't affect me like some people, but jasmine is such a risky note for me personally. Just curious if anyone else has a few in their collection like this!

So you want to turn heads? A guide to perfumes and how to create your signature scent!

You know how everyone talks about how good Rihanna smells? Everyone who meets her says so, to the point where you know when she's entered a room. All the sources and speculation on perfume forums like Fragrantica (an amazing resource for perfume, by the way!) agree that it's likely because she sticks to a signature scent, which is reportedly Kilian's Love, Don't Be Shy. Now, one bottle of it would set you back $240, but you don't need to have a Rihanna-sized budget to smell amazingβ€”and to smell like yourself. So much of fragrance is how scent smells on you specifically, to other people, and choosing your scents judiciously can make both turn heads and tell others that you specifically have arrived!

Here's my advice, accumulated from being a bit of a perfume addict. I'm first going to go through my general perfume "rules," then the different "types" of perfumes and the "vibes" they give off, how to wear perfumes, how to select your signature scents (and make them your own by layering), and how to create a fragrance wardrobe for different occasions.

The Cardinal Rules of Perfume

(Disclaimer: there are no real rules to perfume, but these are the guidelines I recommend!)

  1. Hygiene first. As this excellent guide to smelling good emphasizes, perfume is not a remedy for uncleanliness. Only use perfume on clean skin, and follow all that guide's recommendations for staying fresh. If you get sweaty midday, I also recommend a talc-free body powder to freshen up if you can't go home to shower. Talc-free baby powder works for me, and I love the scent.
  2. Beware of allergies and perfume sensitivity. Perfume is not for everyone. Plenty of people are allergic to or are highly sensitive to scents. If you are one of these people, that's okay! Staying fresh and clean is also a good thing and no scent is still a good scent. [Meghan and Kate don't wear perfume during official state events](https://www.harpersbaz

AITA for not telling my wife that the perfume I buy her is what my first wife wore?

I was previously married, but that marriage ended due to my wife's passing. In a lot of ways I've still not come to terms with it, but I am better now and have come a long way from where I was after it happened. I try to keep her memory alive with little things that remind me of her, and one of the things I've done since she passed was always keeping some of her brand of perfume around so I could
keep that scent/her scent present. I'm sure that seems kind of creepy, but it's not uncommon among other widowers I know.

At some point, I bought it for my current wife as a gift and asked her to wear it. I didn't tell her when I gave it to her that it was the same type my first wife wore, but my first wife's friends and family noticed and I asked them not to say anything. They didn't but told me they felt this was not healthy. I disagreed because I wasn't forcing her to wear it and it was the only thing like this I did. I never asked her to change hairstyles, hair colors, or the way she dressed, so it is not like I was trying to recreate my first wife. It wouldn't have worked even if I wanted to do that because they don't look alike, which I think proves that what I'm doing isn't unhealthy.

We've now been married for over a decade and my former sister-in-law finally told my wife about the perfume. She thinks I need to move on and stop living so much in the past and believes that my first wife wouldn't want me hiding something like this from my wife or holding onto her in some of the ways I am. I don't get her concerns. She acts like I'm a crazy person, but this is the only thing like this I've done. Ever. I feel like she making this into a big issue when it's not.

My wife was very upset that I never told her about the perfume being my first wife's favorite, and it has caused some other issues. For one, she now wonders if some of the times I was really attracted to her it was just the perfume and me imagining my first wife. I've tried reassuring her but she won't listen to what I say.

She thinks I am the asshole for what I did, and my wife's family have all said as much in private over the years because of this secret. I don't think what I did was that bad. I didn't tell her but I never forced her to wear it and haven't tried to change her. She knows I love her and our family, and I always thought of this as a harmless tool to help me deal with the past.

I don't feel like an AH, but I'm not sure that I can judge myself fairly because I've done this fo

Funny reactions from people about your perfume?

This morning I put on Fyrinnae’s Captain’s Quarters (leather, cotton, hardwoods, salty air, a touch of sweet frankincense, with just a hint of rum) and my very bogan girlfriend goes β€œwhat’s burning?” and when I held my arm up for her to smell she goes β€œFUCK that’s yuck!” in the most disgusted voice possible. It was weirdly comical, especially as I love this perfume. πŸ˜‚ She also likes to tease me with questions like β€œis there a glass note in this fragrance today?” in a very faux-posh voice (all because one or two of my S92 perfumes have a glass note).

Have you had any funny reactions, good or bad, from people in your life about your indie perfumes?

EDIT: I reapplied it this afternoon and went into the bedroom and she immediately put her head up, scowled, and said β€œthat stink again!!” She then said I was committing a β€œpurposeful act of domestic terrorism” πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab is discontinuing many of their 45th President-inspired perfumes next week

Probably a healthy banishment.

> We're cleaning house! The last four years, painful as they may have been, have allowed us to connect with so many people and raise thousands for worthy causes. In many instances, we were able to use the President's own words against him, quickly creating products in response to "trending" moments, channeling public outrage into something more productive and satisfyingly satirical. > But next week, the nation finally enters a new chapter of history, and we'd prefer to move on as well! Thus, the following list of Activism perfume blends will only be available through Inauguration Day, January 20th: > 🀑 ALTERNATIVE FACTS 🀑 FAKE NEWS 🀑 IMPEACHMENT 🀑 NATIONAL EMERGY (SIC) 🀑 SUSTAINED BOOS 🀑 BEING, LIKE, REALLY SMART 🀑 COVFEFE 🀑 I WANT NOTHING 🀑 NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW 🀑 SINKHOLE 🀑 VERY STABLE GENIUS > If it's not on this list, then we intend to keep it around for a while! And have no doubt, we'll keep expanding the Activism line as events unfold, regardless of who's in charge of what. > Oh! And this might sound superstitious, but we've been hoping to reach 46K followers on Instagram by Inauguration Day, to put "45" as far behind us as possible.

LPT: If your spouse passes away at some point, keep their perfume/cologne/etc. You can not only use it to remember them by, as smell is strongly tied to memory, but you can also use it to spray on your pillow if you find it difficult to sleep without them.

My mother used to spray my father's cologne on hers, me, and my sisters pillows at night and, at times, it did help us fall asleep. It won't completely fix anything, obviously, but just smelling the familiar scent of someone you miss can put you at ease. It can also have the opposite effect though, so please use this tip with caution.

AITA for buying a perfume that my BF’s ex used to wear?

I’m on mobile so sorry for any errors!

So basically my BF and I (dating 8 months) were at bath and body works a couple of weeks ago. I was testing out scents and found one I really liked, so I went over to my BF and had him smell it. He did and then he made kind of a weird face. I asked if he liked it and he just said it was the same perfume his ex used to wear.

I kinda laughed it off, but then he said the name of that particular scent in full. He hadn’t even seen the label. So I was a little caught off guard and said β€œoh, sorry.” I’ve never met his ex and he doesn’t really talk about her, but I don’t need to know so I don’t really ask.

We left after that, and when we got to the checkout I decided to buy the perfume anyway because I liked it so much.

Fast forward to todayβ€” we were going out on a date to the park and I decided to splash on the perfume. When I get into his car, he made that same weird face and asked if I bought the perfume. I said yes and asked if there was a problem. He just say there for a moment and said it makes him uncomfortable?? Which I don’t really understand.

Our date was a little awkward and we ended up leaving the park earlier than planned. Now I’m back home and I don’t really know how to feel. He asked me not to wear the perfume around him and that makes me feel like he’s being a little controlling? It’s a nice smell and I like it.

So AITA?

Often times I think "this sounds delightful!" when perusing a scent list and when I try it it doesn't work for me at all. Sometimes it smells not like I imagined and sometimes it smells exactly like it's suppose to and I just realize it's not something I like, lol. I have found a handful of scents I love, but it's often not what I expected to be wowed by that winds up finding a place in my heart.

My husband got some samples from Solstice Scents and none of it was stuff I would have chosen but I love everything he's tried so far (which was Camp Willow and Sea of Grey). I am starting to think I am just not very good at picking out scents. πŸ˜‚

I just finished reading The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern and if we don't get a perfume collection for this book, I'll have to start a petition. There's a BPAL shout-out in the acknowledgements page for goodness sake!

There's also a bloodmilk shout-out. And a Dragon Age one. Like, I'm pretty sure Erin Morgenstern is one of us? Or possibly a mash-up of some of my college friends.

I'm about a year late from The Starless Sea's publication date, so I guess it's possible there's something out there already, but BPAL at any rate doesn't appear to have anything. I e-borrowed it from my library, and finished it just under the deadline to return so I didn't get a chance to go back and pick out specific moments worthy of a perfume, but honestly it's chock full of them from the opening describing the son of the fortune teller's shoelaces permanently having the scent of sage ingrained in them, to a moment near the end that features an actual brief discussion of hand-blended perfume oil. There are honey-filled moments galore and I'm probably going to buy the paperback so I can re-visit more leisurely and probably pair D+F's honey accords to moments in the book.

Has anyone else read this delight of a novel? Have any brilliant pairings? I'm probably going to go try to track down Erin Morgenstern on the internets and see if she has given out any particular recommendations from BPAL that she thought of or was inspired by when writing... and also I wanna know if she knows about Little Book Eater and Area of Effect and Poesie and just... so many other houses that are literature and gamer inspired!

I know book/character & perfume pairings come up sometimes around here, and would love for y'all to shout-out some of your faves again - be they perfumes directly inspired by the reading material or ones that you independently paired up. I think about thinking about this a lot, but somehow never quite make the connections. Once I have a physical copy of the book, I'd really like to give this one some thoughtful consideration... but also I fully expect someone to release a collection so I don't have to do the work, lol!

Edit: Thank you so much for the award! My very first reddit award, I'm tickled!

Gender preferences in perfume notes small research

Yesterday I published my small research about how many perfumes of the opposite gender are present in the collections of people, published on Reddit(based on 43 perfume lovers, who post their collections in Show&Tell Weekend topic). And in the comments, some people also asked to analyze the differences in preferences for perfumes and notes among people of different genders.

Among 43 collections such perfumes most often mentioned are:Acqua di GiΓ² Profumo Parfum by Giorgio Armani (9 mentions), Black Opium Eau de Parfum by Yves Saint Laurent (7 mentions), Black Orchid Eau de Parfum by Tom Ford (7 mentions)

The most popular female perfumes among men were Black Orchid Eau de Parfum by Tom Ford (4 mentions), D&G Light Blue (2 mentions of edt and 2 mentions of Intense). Among male perfumes in women's collections there was only one mention for each perfume and these are mostly famous perfumes, such as Vintage by John Varvatos, Noir Extreme EDP by Tom Ford, Encre Noire a L'Extreme by Lalique

Also, based on the information about the perfume pyramids in different sources, I got a list of all the notes that are presented in the collections of different people. As a result, I discovered that, obviously, notes like bergamot, jasmine, vanilla, sandalwood, patchouli, musk, amber are the most common among both men and women (in 600+ perfumes, each was found 150-200 times). Then I took the top 50 notes by the number of mentions for each gender and got that among men, notes of pepper, sage, tobacco, grapefruit, spices and other more "heavy" notes are much more common. Among women, notes of caramel, coconut, gardenia, green leaves, magnolia, orchid, peonies and other more floral or sweet notes are more common.

So, what do you think, are there any notes that you can uniquely identify as masculine or feminine? And what are your favourite perfume notes?

Has anyone ever tried to collect all perfumes that contain a certain note?

I'm wondering if I'm insane here. I'm not trying to find every FS, so much as I'm just trying to find every sample of a perfume containing those few notes so i can select my favorites. I feel like this definitely wouldn't work with super common notes (vanilla, patchouli etc) but seems like an interesting way to explore more niche types of scents.
