It makes it impossible to debate about the man. Everything he's said is looked upon with scepticism, everything others have heard him say is suspect, every time he treats a Primarch as a son it gets called manipulation, every time he is perceived as treating them as nothing but tools it's unreliable. Debate is rendered impossible, and it all devolves into a circle-jerk of "no u."
I get that ADB didn't want to nail down too much about the Emperor, but he went way too fucking far in the other direction.
Mind you, everyone seeing something else when they behold him is awesome. It's the other thing that can go in the dumpster.
Here and now physically doesn't exist this is how you learn of the nothingness you are.
As a DM, if I only ask for saves or perception checks when there actually is something to be afraid of, then the players will be avle to metagame my intentions too easily...
So, why not have a list over difficult, non-dangerous happenings that might be annoying, but not dangerous (necessarily).
Examples; DC 22 to become aware of mosquitoes coming along while you are resting. It'll cause you to itch, but won't kill you outright.
DC 10; the ground is wet beneath the dry surface, and you will wake up damp and cold if you don't perceive it before falling asleep.
DC 15/25; a rare bird is singing close by, one with a very subtle song who has a very good camouflage against the night sky.
DC 18; The sound of rain not far away.
DC 16; a beautiful constellation is clearly visible in the starry sky. Ask the players what it is.

This is the first free agency since the league introduced a focus on combating tampering. This is why I have little sympathy for the bucks. (I do feel bad for Erysan, but it is squarely the fault of the bucks for being the first to break the new rules.)
Last year, after the Kawhi/Durant free agency Adam Silver and the board of directors introduced new rules specifically to combat the overly lax free agency deadlines.
> Silver said that the measures, approved unanimously, are an expression of the league’s desire to “ensure that we’re creating a culture of compliance” and to establish a “level playing field” in free agency for all 30 teams.
In doing so, he introduced harsher punishment:
> Under the new guidelines, the NBA league office has the power to suspend executives, void contracts, take away draft picks and fine a team up to $10 million if it is caught violating the league’s tampering rules.
One executive added:
> The tampering optics looked bad and [the league office] had to clean it up,” one league executive said. “I think we’ll see a more compliant environment because no GM wants to be the first one caught. But I can promise no one is going to report an agent.”
Edit: To clear up confusion, these rules were put in place AFTER last years free agency due to scenarios like Kemba Walker signing within 1 minute. This is the first offseason with these in place. Bucks are the first team to break them.
My SO and I had an argument the other night. It wasn’t a major argument, it was just something we both needed to get off o chest to move forward as a couple. We were both tired and stressed and I said things I shouldn’t have.
After the argument, we both apologized and everything was fine, except I had a nagging in my stomach and I felt as if I should keep apologizing, so I did. Three more times. Each time, my SO kept reassuring me, and eventually just had to hold me and reassure me again.
It was so foreign to me that after an argument, you can just be fine w the other person and not hold a grudge. I was so used to my parents and I “making up” after a fight, only to get the silent treatment/ one word replies afterwards. I’m so used to slamming doors and my parents stomping up to their rooms.
Does anyone else have this issue?
Edit: I can’t reply to everyone, but I’m reading everyone’s comments. They mean a lot, and I can’t thank y’all enough :)
I've pirated stuff for the vast majority of my 38 years. Starting with copying the VHS tapes from the rental place in the late 80's, to copying games on floppy disk on my Amiga 500+ to before "chipping" my PS1 to discovering the torrent scene 17 years ago(and never looking back!). But I've always been happy to pay for things that I think are either good value, or are easier to simply pay for than mess about pirating.
However, today I noticed that my perception of what is considered "good value" has really changed. My daughter wanted a game bundle for her iPad that was £20 for 9 different apps. So just over £2 per app, which normally I would think is worth it just so there are no ads. This time though, it was really difficult for me to decide if I perceived it as decent value or not, and it made me realize how little value I now assign to most media, and since I stil appreciate the time and effort that goes into making the software, music and movies/TV I accrue and watch(both legally and illegally), my opinion of the value is much, much lower than it was even 3 or 4 years ago. I can only think that is due to how much I pirate mainly, but also thanks to "all you can eat" apps such as Spotify and Netflix etc...
Anyone else have this?
1.) Not a media darling - I think in the past and without Spielman we would be looking at a sexier hire. We would all be excited but that doesn’t always correlate to quality. I’m glad the search committee didn’t go for the shiny object. Those slam dunk popular hires seem to always be the ones that flame out.
2.) People outside the league are dunking on the hire - Fans of other teams and novice prognosticators are making fun of the hire. I like the low expectations. I like being underestimated. When Quinntricia became final we kissed our own asses. Everyone else kissed our asses. It was a slam dunk until it wasn’t. A lower bar and less consensus among fans somehow feels like it’s a better hire because none of us know what the hell we are talking about.
3.) League insiders know the truth - Scouts, coaches, players, GM’s aren’t surprised and more often than not are complimentary of the hire. He’s been considered for at least 4 other head coaching jobs. The people that actually know what they’re talking about aren’t surprised at all.
I absolutely loathe people who tell me that i “just” need to look at things differently or “just” stop thinking about it when i say i have flashbacks. but i have a whole bucket of unbridled rage for anyone who says that the only thing that hurt me was me.
no, actually, the thing that hurt me was the trauma Events that i had no control over. but thanks for your input, chad.
In multiple interviews last week Matt said that the girls actually love Victoria and that she was popular in the house. In this weeks episode, Victoria is seen with Rachael multiple times (holding hands, walking together, and sitting together) while isolated from the majority of the women. Maybe Matt thinks she was popular/well liked because Rachael liked her and Rachael is maybe one of the last women standing?
Happy New Years ladies. May 2021 bring you endless health, happiness and wealth. And OFC a Birkin bag 😉
I saw this on PurseForm and they really think that rep bags are still like that. They go through the effort to censor everything because they think rep-makers take their time to carefully read and use their non-professional authentication skills to debunk a bag (a lot of them are the low tier stuff too, funny how majority of TPF users can’t tell an obvious rep from the real deal). Also in a logical perspective if rep-makers were making bags based on pictures (which they aren't) wouldn't they use the images found on the official brand's website or from more trusted re-sellers such as FashionPhile rather then detailed pictures of obvious knock-offs discussed on that authentication forum. Like it defies logic. The sophistication and quality of rep bags have changed so much yet they think they base the model off of the stuff discussed on the forum. Regardless, reps these days are not simply made looking at photos but rather factories take apart an auth item than carefully construct every little piece. It's sad how ignorant people are towards reps.
One of the things that really bothers me is when people claim that reps fund terrorism when there still has been no relevant evidence of this presented. As well as the claim of child labor which is ridiculous, at least in the case of 1:1 reps - the people who make them are highly skilled artisans with years of experience, whose work is so meticulous and sophisticated [such as former Hermes employees who hand-crafted the bags for several years], that we now need professional authenticators to examine the goods. There is no way a child can take on such a complicated and challenging task. If you are going to parrot "fake bags support terrorism and use child labor" at least see if it is true. The high fashion companies are using cheap scare tactics to discourage purchasing fakes. The claim of terrorism and child labor sounds like something a PR team came up with in a hurry, truth be damned.
It goes to show how deluded TPF members [such as the "authenticators" who are not even official representatives of the brand] truly are. Not only do they feel their things are elite but also their "skills" to the point where rep-makers take the time to carefully an... keep reading on reddit ➡
Here are a few stray thoughts that I will try and string together in a meaningful way.
Differential perception of risk simply means different people can see the same thing differently. As an example?
Take Ebola or the Common Cold.
Almost everyone sees Ebola as a deadly serious threat. By contrast, almost no one would see the common cold as a significant threat to their well being.
If you made a graph to chart these perceptions, you'd get a tightly clustered distribution of responses. With Ebola, probably 98%+ would see it as deadly serious. With a cold, 98%+ would see it as "no big deal".
But for covid, the response seems to be different. A graph of "covid responses" would most likely show a bimodal distribution. You'd have a compound curve with 2 peaks. One peak would show an Ebola type perception and the other would be almost the opposite... something more similar to the way a cold or flu would be perceived.
And this is creating a big problem. Which is what exactly?
We're seeing a division or polarization of society into 2 different groups based on their perception of the risk associated with covid. One group is very afraid while the other group is much less concerned.
And each group is coming to see the other group as being part of the problem. One result is that covid provokes arguments like nothing I've ever seen before. People are fighting over details, statistics and how best to respond. It's even been turned into a political and social issue.
There's no point in using statistics or scientific studies because people from each group are coming up with different interpretations of the same data.
If this was Ebola, the problem wouldn't exist. Everyone would be on the same page. But with covid, early reports suggested a high enough mortality rate (5 - 7%) to get everyone worried. By the time more accurate data came out (showing less than 1%) it was too late. Many people's perceptions had become "locked in".
Each group has its own perception. But the political leadership and the media seem to have a strong bias in favor of the first group. This kind of makes sense in terms of understanding their response. The more fearful group is always going to be that much more vocal than the less fearful one... and it's the squeaky wheel that gets the grease.
(Background: I am British Chinese with parents from HK, been working in HK for 7 years. The extent of my understanding of Singapore comes from a few Singaporean friends I made during uni, and visiting Singapore once in 2014 and twice in 2019.)
So I recently made friends with a Singaporean colleague who transferred to our HK office, and a lot of our conversations revolve around comparing and contrasting Singapore and Hong Kong. I’m just wondering what general perceptions or stereotypes Singaporeans have about HK and HKers, or if anyone’s made any observations about the relationship between the two cities. Here are some of the things my friend and I discussed:
Singapore is more planned My friend always comments on the lack of urban planning in HK, and that things are often juxtaposed against each other. For example, a wet market, a funeral parlour, a hotel, and some high-end office blocks are all in close proximity. I personally I think this is just the result of organic growth, and I think it adds character to a neighbourhood, but I do see how it can be a bit jarring.
Singapore is better maintained HK is definitely less clean and the streets are more packed and chaotic. However, I feel like malls and the MTR in HK in general look more well-kept. Maybe this is to do with a lack of emphasis on public spending in HK?
Bad service in HK Apparently this was the number one culture shock for my friend after arriving in HK, and it was probably one of mine too when I first came here. I wonder what caused the general acceptance of outright rudeness by service staff in HK?
Cultural awareness I feel like Singaporeans have a higher awareness of HK than the other way round. It seems like the average Singaporean knows more about HK food and celebrities and TV and language than HKers know about Singapore. I also think that HK food appeals to Singaporeans more than SG food appeals to HKers.
So anyways, those were a few points I wanted to share, and I really wanted to hear some insights from Singaporeans about HK, and what they think about it. I’d also be interested in hearing what people personally thing about HK (as opposed to the general perception) too!
I'm like so so sooo close to joining the US armed forces in a combat role(SEAL pipeline) , but there are some things I struggle to comprehend. Ive learned of dishonest and alterior motives behind sending people to war in the past few decades in the states and I have to wonder. .. If I am joining am I risking my life for the country or some politicians bullshit? Are combat missions justifiable or is there always a layer of looking the other way and doing what your told. Curious of your thoughts :) Thanks and happy holidays!
Objects in mirror may be closer then they appear never existed.
It's always said " objects are closer then they appear" on every car mirror ever. And in every movie where it's showed a car mirror. Never in history has a car mirror said "objects In mirror MAY be closer then they appear".
This one I remember vividly as a kid cause I looked at the thing for hours on end every day waiting for my mom. She really liked to take her time and I had no patience lol. I always questioned how something may be closer. Like either it is or it isn't.
I found out a few years ago and honestly it fucked up my whole world view of everything. Led me down a rabbit hole of alot of other things that maybe I'll save for another post.
But basically I firmly believe the Mandela effect is 100 Percent real. There is many theories as to how but regardless I know for a fact my memories are not false.
They were reinforced memories. Something ingrained in my brain, something I constantly pondered cause it made litteraly no since. Something I can visually still see like it was yesterday. But never actually existed.
I had my whole awakening years ago and it was a long rough journey with more questions then answers. The reality of things are more complex then one could ever imagine.
What do you remember 15 years ago ?
Objects may be closer or objects are closer ?
Edit* this post should wake a few people up, what are the chances this many people Remeber so whole heartedly something that really doesn't even make sense, seems like we all had similar experiences in that we all spent alot of the questionimg the odd nature of the quate. wasn't expecting this kind of response.
Even tho it was dismissed by a few due to some missspled words, I think most people can remember for themselves. Imagine being so stubborn you dismiss all evidence on the terms of a couple misspelled words. Evidence being all your guys experiences.
So this story happened years ago but its kind of cathartic to tell it and several others.I had been playing with Edward for around 3-4 years at this point, Ed was a 40-50 year old DM who bragged about pretty much being a forever DM for the past 30 years. To be fair to him some of his sessions were really fun, but over the years the warning signs got really, really bad.
To begin with, we were playing mutant year zero, I was playing a stealthy character who barely spoke, and was pretty much covered in burlap to the point where I looked like a post apoc Kenny. Due to the nature of the game, I and another player had gone out scouting. I was given the option to roll a perception check and failed. Not crit failed, just got like an 8 or something.
Due to this failure, neither of our characters noticed the 30 or so bikers, we did not hear the engines, or see them as they surrounded us. The bikers then mugged us for everything we had which was annoying but fine, whatever. Then a random woman walked off her bike and proclaimed she thought I was cute and was taking me as her slave. When I tried to punch her, she just so happened to have the random mutation which allowed her to dodge like fucking neo (every character gets a random mutation, no he did not choose it in front of us nor did he give any evidence to his claims that this character to just so happened to get it).
After getting my ass kicked, she kidnapped my character, let the other go, and we did a fade to black with her force feeding my char Viagra.
Next session, he decided the only people besides the characters who gave a shit about my character being kidnapped was my characters rival, who my character hated because he'd enslaves my characters sister. He handed me the character sheet, and said my motivation was to humiliate my main character. Luckily we TPKed that session so nothing really came of it, but it is the biggest thing which pops out to me when I remember his DMing.
Bonus story. During a vampire the masquerade game I was playing a nosferatu hacker, a character who was built entirely around hacking and knowing tech stuff. After some brow beating by the other players over how cautious I was playing him, I decided to hack a random ATM just as a thing to do. I hack the security cameras so they looped, got a very high roll, and was told I succeeded and got the money with ease.
A week later my character was arrested. Turns out my character "forgot" that all ATMs have cameras inside them, and... keep reading on reddit ➡
I know I shouldn't let it get to me, but lately ive been noticing a lot of young people reducing butch and masc identities to some superficial fashion trend.
Especially on Tik Tok (sigh I know, there are some funny videos), where there is a younger demographic, the hate on butches/masc lesbians is unbeleivable. People calling us over hyped, or reducing the identity to some idiotic "hey mama" (white masc lesbians posting thirst traps) trend.
Then the complaining about femme for femme being rare when they then proced to blame it on butches/masc lesbians? As if not every peice of media with lesbians shows femmes and when you open Tinder/Hinge etc. is literally 85% fem presenting women. I've just been really bothered by it recently and just wanna get it off my chest.
On October 17th 2018 the Canadian Federal government legalized and regulated recreational cannabis in Canada. We're only the second country to do so after Uruguay. Since then its been a hell of a ride.
I'm Dr. Daniel Bear, and I'm a Professor at Humber College in Toronto. I've been studying drugs policy since 2003 when I started a chapter of Students for Sensible Drugs Policy at UC Santa Cruz, and since then I've worked at the ACLU on drugs issues, studied terminally ill patients growing their own cannabis, spent a year alongside police while they targeted drug in the UK, written about racial disproportionality in drugs policing, and worked on the worlds largest survey about small-scale cannabis growing.
Today my team is launching a new project to explore how young people in Canada engage with public education information about cannabis and I thought it'd be a great opportunity to answer any questions you have about cannabis and how legalization is working in Canada.
I'll be answering questions starting at 4:20ET.
You can take the perceptions of cannabis public education survey here. For every completed survey we're going to donate $0.50, up to $500, to Canadian Students for Sensible Drug Policy our partners on this great project. You can also enter to win a $100 gift card if you take the survey. And, we're also doing focus groups and pay $150 in gift cards for two hours of your time.
If you grow cannabis anywhere in the world, you can take part in a survey on small-scale growing here.
I've invited other cannabis experts in Canada to join the conversation so hopefully you'll see them chime in to offer their insights too.
If you like this conversation you can follow me at @ProfDanBear on Twitter.
EDIT 8:06pm ET: Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone for the great questions. I'm going to step away now but I'll come back to check in over the next couple of days if there are any additional questions. I couldn't have enjoyed this anymore and I hope you did too. Please make sure to take our survey at www.cannabiseducationresearch.ca or follow... keep reading on reddit ➡
>Master Dadian said to an assembly, People who study the Way need to know their own basic mind. You can only see the Way when it is shown by mind. I often see people of the time who just acknowledge raising the eyebrows and blinking, sometimes speaking, sometimes silent, and right away give approval as the essence of mind. This is really not comprehending.
>I will now explain for you clearly; each of you should listen.
>Just get rid of all random operation of conceptual assessment, and then this is your true mind. This mind has nothing at all to do with sense objects or keeping notice of when it is still and silent. Mind itself is Buddha; it doesn’t depend on cultivation. Why? Responding to situations according to perception, it functions on its own clearly and coolly; when you search out the seat of its function, it cannot be found. This is called subtle function; this is the basic mind. You really need to preserve it; don’t take it lightly.
^(Treasury of the Eye of True Teaching: Volume II #586)
Sometimes in this forum I read some exchanges about how 'enlightenment is realising that there is no such thing as enlightenment, there is nothing to attain' as if this was some riddle conclusion one would arrive at after an exhaustive search. I personally think this is ignorant of the obvious function on display by the people we read about.
Adepts display 'great function' in response to circumstances by acting spontaneously and appropriately, in complete accord. There is a 'principle' that is being spoken of. Consider for a moment that this principle is what an unobstructed mind responding to conditions naturally is like.
Dadian here unlearned with Shitou, and packs a lot into a single paragraph. He says that the subtle function of a clear mind, unhindered by random conceptual thought, responds according to reality all on its own. This is given as a fact of nature, and so, in that sense, there is nothing to attain or cultivate. Compare Foyan:
"I always tell you that what is inherent in you is presently active and presently functioning, and need not be sought after, need not be put in order, need not be practiced or proven. All that is required is to trust it once and for all. This saves a lot of energy."
The essence of mind, the mind ground, the principle, whatever it is called, it is this function, demonstrated by zen masters, pointed out in students: herein lies the direct pointing to mind outside of words.

Since I found FDS, I have realized my so called male friends weren't really my friends. 4 of them just wanted to sleep with me and use me as a therapist despite being in relationships with lovely ladies. 2 turned out to be followers of MGTOW and they were hardcore misogynists. That I realized after I started getting out of the shell of cool girl pick-me. The rest just naturally left because they got intimidated by this entirely new strong version of me, someone who now stands up for herself and doesn't act nice all the time. Some therefore tried to bring me down by downplaying my intelligence and self-worth.
But what I noticed most was, almost all of them wanted more than just friendship. They couldn't respect the beautiful bond that is friendship. Everytime I used to let my guard down, they'd send me thirst memes or some sexual and flirty texts that I tried my best to avoid. Absolutely zero respect to me as a friend. While on the other hand, I saw them as nothing more than just a friend and never gave any hint that I want something more, maybe I kept silent for so long and that's why they took it as my answer. I feel absolutely degraded and humiliated because their mere absence from my life proves that I was nothing more than just a piece of flesh to them and I can't believe I dragged those friendships for so many years.
But I'm also glad I've got only 1 male friend left who really respects all women, it shows from his actions. It's been quite some years, we've hung out a lot, till now he hasn't been flirty towards me or too emotionally overbearing. He's also protective and helped me escape my abusive relationship but then also he didn't try to sleep with me. Just the right kind of friendship that you can expect from a man. The bare minimums literally but still so much because the bar is absolutely low.
TL;DR: tired people make silly mistakes.
A bit of a more lighthearted tale.
This happened towards the beginning of April, but I was reminded of this incident today and it gave me a chuckle. After 3 weeks of socially isolating, I realized we were about to run out of dog food. While my mom would be more then happy to feed her “grand dog” people food for the remainder of this period, I really don’t want my dog to turn into a rolly-polly. Luckily for us, pet supply stores are considered “essential” services so most around me were open.
The store itself was quite devote of people, just the cashier and one other customer in the store.
This poor man, he looked like he had been through the ringer. My guess is some form of work stress, family stress, or just general “It’s a pandemic” stress has been eating away at him. He was standing in the aisle I had turned into, and I stopped to keep 6 feet away. The moment he saw me, he blinked, smiled and pushed his cart towards me before seeming to remember that being close to another person was a “no no” and stopping suddenly. So halfway down the aisle he half-shouted:
“Excuse me miss, do you know where the training pads are?”
I was about to say the requisite line “Sorry, I don’t work here.” when I realized he was standing right next to the shelves of training pads. I was staring at them, trying to figure out the best way to break the news to him when he followed my gaze and then he just dropped his head into his hands. He then pulled back like he had burned himself. “I’m an idiot.”
I could only give him a sympathetic smile- as this was before mask wearing was a thing- and tell him “We’ve all been there. Don’t you worry.” He could only give a sad type of nod and I could only be amused. I couldn’t even be annoyed that he didn’t realize I didn’t work there. Clearly his power of observation was on the fritz.
And the reason I remembered that incident? I just spent five minutes looking for where my mom put the new bag of dog food (Not the bag from April) in our house. I finally gave up and asked my dad where he put it.
To which his answer was to just point at the bag of dog food I was standing in front of.
Hey friends! Sorry I'm late this week, I took a muscle relaxer last night and PASSED OUT lol. But we're here! So, let's get into it!
