I'm Craig Ryan, co-founder of Pixel Bar which opened in October 2019 in Leeds. We're a bar that is dedicated to all things videogaming and esports. In the venue we have 12 high-spec gaming PCs available for customers and several console booths. Our cocktail menu is also inspired by the videos games the staff love to play!
Since opening I've had dozens of people DM me to ask for advice/tips on how to open an esports bar, I also had a lot of comments telling me it wasn't financially viable or possible to do. The purpose of this AMA is to tell you that it is possible and give people the chance to ask any questions you may have about how things work or what our plans are post-pandemic.
To say that the last 12 months have been tough for us would be a massive understatement! We all have our fingers crossed to be able to safely reopen on the proposed date of May 17th. After such a tough year I'm excited to start running Pixel at full capacity again, that means more viewing parties for major esports events and more community tournaments to help develop the UK amateur esports scene.
You can find out more about us or stay in touch through our website or socials:
We're looking for locations for the next Pixel Bar, let me know if you think your city is a good candidate for an esports venue!
EDIT: 18:45 GMT - Taking a break to eat and watch WandaVision. I'll come back and answer some more questions later tonight!
Look there is a million and one reasons why people vote left and I can't speak for all of them. From lesser of two evils to supporting the ideals of the current administration.
But when we explain over and over again that we voted in someone that stated they where coming for our guns and we still voted for them. Texas is a perfect current example why. (Other then the other 1000s of recent examples)
Gun don't fix everything, we live together in a society in which we rely on each other and the goverment body to provide a certain level of safety and living.
Guns don't keep you warm in the bitter cold, they don't salt your roads, provide medicine or for most people put food on the table (obviously hunters are the exception).
There are no roving bands of renegades and criminals to protect ones self against. Just a local goverment that got greedy and the people are now suffering because of it.
Texas removed its power grid from the rest of America, they ignored constant warnings that Texas can and will get cold. Now it's power is out and it's gas lines are freezing because companies where deregulated and went profit over people.
This happens in lots of cases. Hell it happens to democrats. But the resolution isn't yet to storm the street with our guns and over throw the goverment, it's to make sure the right people are voted in to ensure stuff like this is avoided.
And sometimes that means not being a single issue voter and having to compromise on who we vote for and actively work, while they are in office, to make sure our constitutional right to bear arms isn't Infringed upon. While still being able to have progressive and proper governing.
I know this argument won't really go anywhere, but felt it needed to be said for those who are here not as liberals and tend to quote our sub to other fire arms groups.
I figured that it would make perfect sense to simply port the Wii U versions of TP/WW and put it as a triple pack with Skyward Sword like they did with Mario allstars. Especially given that SS isn't a ground up remake or anything substantial. It appears to just be a new layer of paint on the same game.
Now I'm curious how they'll market the eventual ports of WW and TP. Especially considering that there's an option to have another double pack of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask down the line. But that appears to be a long way away now.
edit: before anyone says it, I am happy regardless as I never played SS so I'm glad I can finally give it a go. But I do think they could and should have done more to offer greater value for money.
Final edit: I want to play the game so I’ll buy it. I gain more from playing it than I do from not. I’ll just sell it on when I’m done with it like I always do. I don’t think it’s worth the money but I have no choice if I want to play the game, unless I wanna emulate it (but I’d rather buy it and sell it later.) It sucks that I have to financially support Nintendo doing the bare minimum in the process but I’m just trying to have fun in a lockdown.
Also, to people who seem to think that it’s entitled to demand more for your money...yikes lol. Nintendo aren’t doing us a favour by releasing games, they’re capitalising on the loyalty and desperation of their fans for the max money whilst putting in the lowest effort. Which is fine, that’s business and capitalism. But I’m not gonna thank them and praise them for it lol
real final edit cos i don't wanna reply to every person: I know WHY they'd rather make more money. Obviously. And I know that I can vote with my wallet and emulate the game, I just prefer to play it on the console so I have to pay the price. It's just sad to see the standards fall like this. As someone who's been a Nintendo fan for more than two decades, I remember when they threw Kanto in on Pokemon gen 2. Or the Wind Waker pre-order on Gamecube that had OoT and MM. Nintendo has had plenty of moments where they prioritised making a good product before profit margins. It's just a shame that they're heading down the Apple way of just sacrificing quality/fan service in order to squeeze every penny out of loyal fans who some would even pay $100 for a new Zelda game. As I said before, I get it, it's a company, they just care about profits and share prices. But damn, I miss when it wasn't so obvious and they actual... keep reading on reddit ➡
I'm the HR Director for a small company of between 250-300 employees and I comprise the entire HR department. Part of my role, obviously, is recruitment. I and the Operations Director have been working with a couple of our District Managers lately because they just aren't providing quality training and engagement to really good new hires that I've gotten after they've left orientation with me. So basically, quality employees are firing us, for good reason, and it's making my job harder. I can live with that and not take my beef to the DM usually because my President/Owner is aware and has the Ops Manager working with them on it so my job isn't at risk. Doesn't really matter if a few people don't think I'm good at my job when I know I am and the guy who signs my checks does too. Where I lose it, though, is when someone falsely accuses me of something to my President, especially when I have clear documentation otherwise. Today was one of those days but it turned out better than I could have expected this time.
So the DM emails the President complaining that he has a lot of current openings that I have not staffed and that I'm not sending him people. President very kindly emails me and includes the DM in question and the Ops Manager asking if I could just update everyone on my current standings and progress., not accusatory at all. I send back a very matter-of-fact and optimistic email including the 11 recent new hires, 3 of which are from today, the 53 upcoming interviews, and include the 12 candidates I've recommended for hire from him that he has not responded about at all. These are for anywhere from PT, entry-level positions to full-time managers. I figure case closed, they can see we are making progress, don't really care of the DM looks bad for not following up, I'm going to keep doing my job well regardless.
The DM replies-ALL with an absolute scathing email saying he's not seen any new employees, who am I talking about, he's interviewed everyone I've sent him even if I'm not aware, and basically says "Prove it." Okay. So I do.
I email him and the President and the OM with a list of the names of the employees and their position, the candidates and positions I've sent him with no response, and documentation showing that he has not been updating his applicant tracking files showing anything on his end at all so none of us have any way to see if he's actually doing anything. I even offer to re-send all of the specific emails that I've sent him for eac... keep reading on reddit ➡
