Why is colonialism and imperialism used to describe western expansionism but not really associated with other empires eg the Ottomans.

The Ottoman Empire was contemporaneous with many of the western empires and although it was much earlier than, say the scramble for Africa, Portuguese colonies started as early as the 1500s. There are differences in the nature of these empires but in many significant ways they are very similar.

How did the Germans and Ottoman Empire deal with the Armenian Genocide?

I'm referring to the Armenian Genocide. I know it was over a century ago but I remember that it was used as an excuse for some horrible actions. I'm not saying that the Turks did not do some horrible things, just that it's not like the Turks were inhumane because they killed people.

EDIT: Also, as I think I mentioned in the original post, I'm not saying that the Turks were right or wrong. I'm asking how the Turkish empire dealt with the Armenian Genocide.

Is the Ottoman Empire overrated?

Ottoman Empire gets the most attention when it comes to the Islamic Khilafa, The base Islamic symbol is also based on the ottoman flag. But the ottoman empire was not all good, they had the Tanzimat reform, their sultans used to spend lots of time on harems, the ottomans killed lots of innocent Armenians, the Ottoman Empire gets so much attention only because they were the last Khilafa or that's what I think
