Hey Reddit! My name's David Chan, I'm concertmaster of New York's Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. I graduated from Harvard and Juilliard and have actually taught violin at Juilliard for almost fifteen years now. I also love golf!
In two weeks, I'll be kicking off the Mainly Mozart Festival of Orchestras in San Diego, CA. It's a three part drive-in orchestral Festival bringing members of the world's top orchestras together, on one stage.
From February 10-14, I'll be conducting (and soloing on opening night!) the Mainly Mozart Dual Orchestra featuring musicians of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and San Francisco Symphony. You can view soloist info and programming by clicking this sentence.
From April 15-18, I'll be conducting the Mainly Mozart Dual Orchestra featuring musicians of New York's MET Orchestra and D.C.'s National Symphony. Again, view soloist info and programming by clicking this sentence.
In June, it'll all come together with the Mainly Mozart All-Star Festival Orchestra, conducted by Michael Francis, the largest annual gathering of concertmasters and principal players in the country pulling members from dozens of the world's top orchestras, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, Boston Symphony and New York Philharmonic.
So excited to be a part of this! CEO Nancy Laturno will also be available to answer any questions that arise re: logistics, COVID testing protocols, etc.

... keep reading on reddit β‘Iβm not sure what the music people at Bungie would technically be called? Iβm a mechanic but called a Technician....anyways. Iβm listening to HashladΓ»ns Fall from the Shadowkeep Soundtrack. Iβve never heard it all the way through due to a Celestial Nighthawk that she receives in the strike; the grandmaster changed that yesterday. We see the posts about how banginβ the music is from this game which are all 1000% based on fact. Just a passing thought thanks!
Edit: what the hell happened last night! The front page gtfo! Thank you kind ladies and gentlemen for your awards! Let me just put the expectation of getting one anytime soon is probably low to none. Like I said this is just a passing thought I had. Clearly people love the music of this game and the game in general. More like something down the road for them to think about! Stay safe everyone and thank you!
Edit 2: Halo Combat Evolved was the reason I sold my play station 2 back in the day. Well, my mom driving me GameStop to trade it in because I was in 7th grade. Listening to the opening chorus and then one of my favorite tracks is still Pale Rider on Assault on the Control room crossing the double bridges. Bungie clearly has had a lock on music for almost 20 years.
Basically as I understand it muddiness in a mix is what happens when two or more instruments are in the same zone of frequencies. And the more instruments or the more sound that occupy that frequency zone, the more mud you get. Yet an orchestra of 20 violins playing the same note doesn't create "muddyness? Why not?
I made this a while ago, and I figured you all would like it! Let me know what you think!

EDIT: You guys are all so nice! Thank you so much for all the kind words and the awards!! If there are any other scenes you want me to do drop a comment and I'll definitely check it out! HIMYM is a great show, but it's moments like these where it really hits you in the feels.
Hi r/civ! Christopher Tin here. (For those of you who don't know, I composed the main themes for Civ IV and Civ VI.)
I wanted to let you know about a fun upcoming project. There's a huge virtual choir being assembled now to sing the theme to Civ VI, 'Sogno di Volare', with the backing of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. You don't need any prior experience to participate. Heck, you don't even need to be a trained singer. Just be willing to sing your heart out in front of your phone or webcam!
To sign up, go here: https://new.stayathomechoir.com/projects/sogno
I'll be heavily involved with Q&As, masterclasses, etc. It will honestly be a lot of fun.

'Into Light' recorded by the RTΓ Concert Orchestra
The Score (some last minute changes before submitting messed the formatting up a little and some minor changes on the day of recording aren't reflected in the score)
The new University, Munster Technological University, is the merging of two colleges - the Cork Institute of Technology and IT Tralee (Kerry) - into one larger University. The brief was to write something that reflects and celebrates the traditions of both places, Cork and Kerry, and the two colleges' musical history. So I've attempted a fusion of classical, contemporary and even metal and other popular music to reflect the Popular Music courses in the Cork School of Music which is part of CIT, and also pulled from Irish traditional instrumentation and influences, such as the uileann pipes, bagpipes and trad melody at the end.
This was my first time composing for an orchestra close to this scale, so any feedback is much appreciated, thank you.

New songs:
Over four years ago BMTH and my orchestra, the Parallax Orchestra did a show together at the RAH in London, UK. I wrote the orchestral music at the start of the show and conducted the orchestra. I was honestly one of the best nights of my life, and for sure started me on a whole new musical journey.
Finally now the whole gig is available for streaming world wide and to mark this i'm doing an AMA!
I wrote the first track, 'Overture' and am happy to try and answer any questions about that and the experience as a whole that you might have. I'll try to answer as much as I can, as honestly as I can.
The score (sheet music) for 'Overture' is available FOR THE FIRST TIME to download at my website, here! Any BMTH music nerds out there wondering what the orchestral music looks...Go check it out!
