I know that some squirrels had been nesting in the upper trunk as well as it being a home to many birds and other animals.
It makes me so sad.
Is there anything I can do to give the tree some comfort as it gets chopped down?
Edit/update: The tree trunk is partially rotted, there was no malicious intention but it still makes me very sad.
I just asked the crew if they would slice me off a "steak" from the tree trunk, I will use it in my altar. And obviously, honor the tree.
2nd edit: So when I initially asked for a slice, I thought it would be like a foot in diameter.
They gave me a 4-ft diameter slice! Squee!!
A friendly redditor warned me about it possibly splitting when it dries, (thank you u/alphaidioma!!) so I ordered something called anchorseal which will seal my slice, as well as my neighbors slices to hopefully prevent them from splitting when they dry.

I’m old enough to be from an era where oak was king, and anyone who painted or carpeted over wood was reviled.
That said, I hate my bathroom and I really want to paint the walls, the trim, and the oak vanity.
Any tips on how to do the vanity painting well? Are there special paint types to use? Certain preparations to make first?
