How do they work? Is there software on the controllers that 'direct' how PCI cards interface with the system or is it 'hardwired'.
I mean I've heard of fights breaking out and such but is it really a hotspot to get mugged or anything?

Let me start off by telling you that yes I know what a chipset/NB/SB does what I'm asking is if they technically count as processors. If so, do they have ALUs? Do they have cores? In comparison to your average desktop processor how much compute power would they have if they were set up to do compute applications? I have this question ever since I saw a bare chipset without a heatsink they just look so much like CPUs that it just had me wondering.
i have a red cpu ez debug red light and everything points to dead northbridge chipset next to the cpu. After removing the heatsink i see that the heatsink has rubber sticky material on the bottom so everything under it is sticky and has a strange color. (msi b450 tomahawk, ryzen 2600, psu 650 crossair)
Should the northbrige chipset be sticky ?

Anyone that owns a 4,1 or 5,1 Mac Pro should replace the cheap plastic rivets that Apple used to mount the Northbridge heatsink. DO NOT USE PLASTIC RIVETS. THEY WILL FAIL TOO. I found a very high quality stainless steel spring kit made specifically for the Northbridge heatsinks for Mac Pro 4,1 and 5,1 on Ebay. I installed these spring kits in both my 5,1 Mac Pros. The springs match the original springs precisely, and everything fits and works like a charm - high quality stainless steel - not at all like the other cheap junk solutions I've seen online so far.
