If you purchase one book (or two) it will be very carefully packaged in a gemini mailer and shipped first class (6$ charged to buyer). If you purchase more, buyer will pay exact shipping charge.

Yes, I included grade estimates for each book, but we all know how subjective that is. So please look at the detailed pictures taken in natural light so that you can see everything rather than rely on my estimate. I would rather lose a potential sale than have an unsatisfied buyer.

A few of these books are being reposted, in which case the price is reduced.

The Mystery of the Real Live Dead Person (chapter 03): Trouble Lumbers In

The door to Richard's office opened, and swung outward into the hallway. When he first rented this office, the door swung inward, as all the nearby offices did. But he raised a big stink with the landlord, citing fire code, and how people could panic and pile up against a door that swung inward in the event of a fire. They had tried to reason with him, explaining that the city's fire code didn't actually require all doors to be like that, just the main thoroughfares and the fire exits, but he wouldn't budge. In the end, they agreed to change his door, on condition that he shut up and not talk about it anymore. He had kept his promise. But he noticed, with some small satisfaction, that after the kerfuffle, the offices belonging to the landlord and the owners all had their doors changed to open outwards.

The sun shone in gossamer beams through the gaps in the Venetian-like blinds hung over the dirty windows, forming rigid areas where dust could be seen floating through the air, making a mad random dash for inscrutable destinations. Piles of notes, some swaddled in manila folders, others bound with binder clips, lay strewn over all available horizontal surfaces. The dim light seemed to give the office the appearance of sepia tone. Irritated with the monochromaticity, he twisted the rods on the blinds to open them. Painful amounts of sunlight poured into the small office; July in Tucson could be a vicious experience. Besides, he noted painfully, it didn't improve the view; desert dust still clung to the outside of the windows, rendering them only partially translucent, and the thick blanket of dust over everything sapped the room of color. He sighed and closed the blinds again. The room could stand to have some plaintive saxophone music, but that wasn't an option on any music-streaming service, and he didn't have the funds to pay for one anyway. So instead, he imagined it.

Indignantly, he tossed the newspaper on top of his cluttered desk as he collapsed into his chair. It squeaked its loud protest as the rusted spring compressed to its limit. The headline seemed to scream at him: "Downtown still not redeveloped". A few pages in: "Local psychics try to convince streets to miraculously repair themselves", paired with a graph showing how much the city government expected to save by hiring mystics instead of shelling out for asphalt paving. Closer to the back of the first section: "City culture almost ready to acknowledge the 1950s".

Richard cringed as he tur

Couple of questions about selling on various platforms

I have been a collector for many, many years. I just gave it up, though. I’d been lugging long boxes across the US for decades. I’m working to get rid of them. In the past, eBay was an option, CGCs boards worked well, etc. Now, there is a forum here as well. All of these have fees, though. Can anyone answer why on CGCs boards and the comic swap sub state you cannot use F&F and some even say you can’t use a particular service? What is their interest if a fee is charged or not? Please help me understand.

Second question is why prices are all over the board on eBay? I’ve used gpaanalysis in the past, but with the rate you get books back from CGC, doesn’t seem like a good use of resources. For instance, I have a Spawn 9 Newsstand and eBay’s prices range from $750-$1800? Huh? I mean, that’s a heck of difference and I don’t want to get fleeced, but wow!?!?

Thanks in advance for the information!

First of all, the timing: if Zidane had announced his departure earlier, Juve would not have had time to convince the coach to return.

COMPARISON WITH CHIELLINI AND BONUCCI - «I always say is that I don't want to be compared to people who have 300-400 appearances.

I believe that Juve are rediscovering a sense of belonging, which is very important in the first team but also in the youth sector. "

I think the main problem is that players are used as guinea pigs for coaches, both in the first teams and in the youth sectors.

I know it's a great match in Italian football, we know it's important for us, for our fans.

Overview of US chemical and biological warfare in other countries

From the book Rogue State. Chapter 14.

>Poison gas and germ weapons turn civilization on its head. Diseases are not fought, but carefully cultivated; doctors use their knowledge of the functions of the human body to devise ever more effective means of halting those functions; agriculturalists deliberately induce fungi and develop crop destroyers...Modem nerve gases were originally designed to help mankind by killing beetles and lice; now, in the hands of the military, they are, literally, insecticides for people. Chemical and biological warfare, as one writer has put it, is "public health in reverse".

Bahama Islands

From the late 1940s to sometime in the 1950s, a joint US-Canadian-British team sprayed bacteria known to be dangerous in this area of the Caribbean. Thousands of animals died as a result of the tests. It is not known whether there were any human victims. Details of the tests are still classified.

Canada

In 1953, the US Army used air blowers atop trucks to disseminate potentially dangerous zinc cadmium sulfide through the city of Winnipeg as part of its chemical and biological weapons tests.

China and Korea

In the early part of 1952, during the Korean War (1950-53), the Chinese claimed that the United States was dropping quantities of bacteria, insects, feathers, decaying animal and fish parts and many other strange objects that carried disease, over Korea and northeast China. The Chinese government declared that there had been casualties and quick deaths from plague, anthrax and encephalitis, amongst other diseases. They took testimony from some 36 captured American airmen who had purportedly flown the planes with the deadly cargo, and published 25 of these accounts. Many of the men went into voluminous detail about the entire operation; the kinds of bombs and other containers dropped, the types of insects, the diseases they carried, etc. Photographs of the alleged germ bombs and insects were also published.

Then, in August, an "International Scientific Committee" was appointed, composed of scientists from Sweden, France, Great Britain, Italy, Brazil and the Soviet Union. After an investigation in China of more than two months, the committee produced a report of some 600 pages, many photos, and the conclusion that; "The peoples of Korea and China have indeed been the objectives of bacteriological weapons. These have been employed by units of the U.S.A. armed forces, using a grea

The Monster of Florence (PART 2)
  • (6) Horst Wilhelm Meyer and Jens-Uwe Rüsch (Giogoli - Friday, September 9, 1983)

On 9 September 1983, in Giogoli, two German boys were murdered. They were Jens-Uwe Rüsch and Horst Wilhelm Meyer, both 24, students at the University of Münster who were in their van at the time of the attack, with the radio on. The boys were reached and killed by seven bullets fired through the van, but only 4 shells of the 7 were found. The investigations following the crime established that the shots were fired from a height of about 1,3 to 1,5 meters from the ground, which suggests that the killer was at least 1.80 meters (5,11 ft) tall, or even more. However, the hypothesis of the killer's height being above average is not shared by everyone. The murderer first killed Meyer with three shots in very rapid succession, while Rüsch tried in vain to escape but was then also hit by four bullets. Once the two young men were killed, the murderer got on the back of the van but, realizing that the victims were both male, he disappeared without using sidearms and carrying out any excision on the bodies. In this case, the killer was perhaps misled by Rüsch's long hair and slender build, who was probably mistaken for a woman. The victims' money and cameras were not taken, nor did any valuables appear to be missing. It was therefore thought that the murderer, who couldnt be Stefano Mele (he was in jail) nor Francesco Vinci, could instead be another person belonging to their circle of acquaintances. Giovanni Mele (Stefano's brother) and Piero Mucciarini (Giovanni Mele's brother-in-law) were therefore indicted and investigated. Piero Mucciarini and Giovanni Mele remained detained for eight months on charges of being the perpetrators of the double murders. The two were then released from prison, and quickly got out of the investigation definitively, as there was no evidence against them that would justify their indictment. Above all, the two were in prison during the period in which the murder of Claudio Stefanacci and Pia Rontini was committed. For a certain period Salvatore Vinci, Francesco's brother was also investigated for the murders. Stefano Mele died in 1995 of a heart attack following surgery, while residing in a hospice for ex-prisoners.

  • (7) Claudio Stefanacci and Pia Rontini (Vicchio - Sunday, July 29, 1984)

The victims of the penultimate crime were Claudio Stefanacci (21-year-old university student) and 18-year-old Pia Gilda Rontini (employed at a bar and majorette

8/12/2021: Summary of Ash K's day

I could not have done this without u/88sdjj, so thank you for all your hard work today. Dream Team, Sleepy Team! Enjoy~

Chico texts AshK: hey going to prison for like 100 months see you when I get out, hold it down for UwU. AshK replies with a WHAT. AshK calls Taylor, Taylor invites her to make sandcastles but she says she’s gonna run down to jail because Chico is there. Taylor tells her he’s been running the cafe with Cece and Peaches, and it’s been popping. They say bye and hang up.

AshK shows up at the visitation center and asks Chico why he’s in jail. He says it’s a long story. Barry arrives and says hi to AshK, then asks Chico if he’s seen D. They don’t see his name on the list so Barry leaves. Chico tells AshK the boys are still shooting at cops, went to grandpa’s then the barrio, and then Crocodile Steve comes up and calls in 4 Vagos, even though only Chico was wearing yellow. They try to ID them all and they run, which was the worst decision because Crocodile Steve keeps ramming them and they end up getting into a shootout with the cops. AshK thinks a 100 months is a lot, Chico says you can attempt to kill a cop or be an accomplice and still get the same amount of time as shooting them. AshK doesn’t get it, she feels they’re invincible. Chico agrees, and says they’re fighting an unwinnable fight. At that time, Bane and a couple other lifers come in to make a call, and they all say hi to AshK. AshK and Chico continue their talk on the other side. Chico mentions Carlitos and Pablo might be in a bench trial because they were talking about it in the jail. Chico says all he can do is continue to follow orders, even though it’s all fucked. They’re put in this predicament because Pred bought a house down there, and AshK doesn’t understand why the cops still want to buy a house in the barrio. What will it take to scare them? Chico doesn’t think the cops fear anything, even going down to a gang turf. He feels everything is pointless and jokes that he might as well just go full civ and UwU. There’s just no winning against the cops. Chico says everyone probably went to sleep so it’s pretty lonely. The last time AshK went to jail, she was the only one who was out in the prison and everyone else was in their cells. AshK tells Chico she got arrested yesterday and tells him how Kyle got shot, and Franky and Mike went straight to jail while she was interrogated for a while, and Benji was billed but le

Do not go to a place named "Now Here", if you do, don't commence trade of any sorts. (2)

If you happen to come across anywhere named "Now Here", Don't take a step further.

I can't really describe the place, I'm not even sure if it is one place at all.

It came to me as a series of places, sometimes I got to turn around and walk away, but more often then not, I had no choice but to enter. This might be a bit confusing, so let me tell you about my encounters.

So, following the first encounter I posted yesterday (which can be found HERE), let me tell you about the second one.

It was some six months since I supposedly “vanished” in the subway, and I was on a cross-country bus ride to see my grandmother. She was extremely sick and the visit was likely going to be the last time I saw her. It was a really important trip for me, because we kind of got off the wrong foot the last time we met, and I really wanted to make things right.

I decided to nap on the bus. When I woke up, the bus had stopped and no one was on it. Not even the driver.

I looked out the window and saw that it had parked beside a rundown bus stop, in the middle of an empty plain stretching to as far as the eye could see. It reminded me of those western movies where dirt and sand were the only things in sight.

Not far from the bus stop stood a lone, equally rundown motel. It was three stories high, and probably had seen its glory before being abandoned. A huge sign next to it reads: “Now Here” and below that: “VACANCY”

I suddenly got a feeling that I wanted to get off the bus. I desired to.

There was a girl sitting in front of one of the rooms on the first floor, she was, in broad daylight, holding a lit candlestick, and wearing an oversized business suit. She was the girl I met in the subway station six months ago.

She caught sight of me in the bus, and waved me away. As if I could go anywhere else. I decided to get off the bus and approach her.

When I got to her, she sighed and asked, “So, how much do you have left?”

“What?”

“You exchanged for quarters the last time, didn’t you?”

A bit confused, I reached for my wallet. It wasn’t there anymore. Instead, I felt weight in my back pocket. It was quarters. 19 quarters.

This place definitely has something to do with the “Now Here” subway station.

The girl shrugged, “You know the drill. Go buy a candle and wait for your ride.”

I noticed that one of the rooms on the fir

"The Wild Ones" by Andrew Shaw: another Misadventure in 1960s Erotica Books

Let’s read another smutty men's erotica book from the 1960s. I’ll read it and then provide you all the gory details, so that your minds will remain pure and your hands will not come into contact with the fluids which were no doubt deposited on this sordid little paperback 60 years ago.

These are the books that you couldn’t buy at the newsstand because they were too scandalous and obscene. These “dirty books” were frequently only available through the mail or some specialty shops and peep shows. They’re all very shocking to 1950s/1960s sensibilities and feigned sexual innocence, but in actuality they usually deliver very little of the red-hot smut that they promise. Still, their reputation and lurid covers give them a forbidden, pornographic quality that endures today, no matter how undeserved that feeling often is. Some used book stores still store them behind glass or in a special roped off “adult” section, which I imagine would make the original artists/authors very proud.

These things typically look dirtier than actual porn, which is their main appeal today. They’re the product of deliberate marketing, VERY careful writing to avoid obscenity laws, and creators who were paid for quantity not necessarily quality. They’re churning out multiple books a month, sometimes 6+ books an author, which means that corners are often cut. Paragraphs are shared from one book to the next, the plots don’t always make sense, the characters act randomly, etc. Their purpose wasn’t to be great literature, it was to titillate. You know those free KDP books that are terrible? These are very much them, only from 60 years ago.

In any case, our book today is The Wild Ones, by Andrew Shaw. No year is given, but since it’s an erotic rip-off of the Marlon Brando movie The Wild One, we can safely assume it’s somewhere in the late 50s or early 60s. Andrew Shaw was the pseudonym of writer Lawrence Block, who went on to find great success in crime fiction, writing many books from the 70s up until today. When he left Greenleaf’s “Evening Reader” imprint in 1962, his pseudonym became a house name that other author’s borrowed. I’m actually not sure if he wrote today’s book or not, it’s hard to tell. My guess is no, I think this one is probably from around '63.

On the cover, a very pretty naked blonde woman wearing a biker cap, smiles coyly at a man riding a 60s motorcycle. I’m quite fond of the cover image. I love the colors and I think the artist did a great job of capturing the

I’m a killer

I was only eighteen years old and living by myself in a three-room flat only a mile from my college. I was on the east side of my city, heading home after a long evening in the library. I was walking on a sidewalk, and sadly I didn’t own a car at the time, and the nearest bus stop was seven blocks from here. Buses here don’t come after ten on Saturdays, anyway. That meant I had to walk the two and a half miles to my flat in the middle of the night.

I was passing the mouth of an alleyway, when I heard loud chewing sounds. I turned, and saw a man crouched next to a rat. The defenseless little animal had been torn in half.

“Ew, gross. Here, don’t live off animals, dude,” I said as I approached the figure. I took a ten dollar bill out of my pocket and dropped it next to the guy. Weirdly enough, he didn’t pay any attention to the money. Just continued chomping and slurping up the rat’s intestines. I felt sick.

“Stop eating the rat! Just take the money.” I kicked the bill closer to them, and then grabbed ahold of his shoulders. I dragged him away from the poor dead animal.

The moment he realised I was taking him away from his ‘food’, he snapped and flipped shit on me. The homeless dude stood up quickly, snapping his teeth at me, and then charged straight at me. I didn’t get out of the way in time, and found myself laying on my back on the cold concrete. I finally got a look under his hood, and saw he wasn’t a human at all–he didn’t have the faintest of face features. Just empty black eyes and a horizontal slash across the lower part of his face. The rest looked melted, skin hanging off the bones of his face. I screamed and fought hard against the monster, trying to push him off of me.

But he weighed at least three hundred pounds, and my puny little arms couldn’t lift him. I punched and clawed at his ruined face, scratching and raking my nails down the front of his head. Suddenly, the creature groaned and rolled off me. I instantly jumped to my feet and sped away, not looking back.

When I arrived home, I immediately locked my doors and windows, then went to my bedroom. I sat in front of my laptop and searched up Creatures Found in Alleys. I scrolled down for what felt like hours, clicking on anything that looked informative, but only found things like mice, rats, raccoons, and things like that. Finally, when I was about to give up and power down my laptop, I saw what appeared to be my last hope.

It was a painting of the creature I had seen only

It has happened twice already and I think it might happen again soon. It always starts with a small charge from "Newstand" using my debit card. First it was $1.94. Today it was $15. I have never used anything called Newsstand. Then one day like 7 crazy random purchases in some other state, including shoes and amusement parks.

Where in the hell are they getting my entire debit card number? Yes, I reuse the same password for lots of online accounts, and I'm about to fix that. But I've never been able to view my entire debit card # using these sites. It always has 'Xs' in it...

I've heard some gas stations copy info. Is that a real possibility?

Just curious how I can finally nip this in the bud.

Roy Greenslade: I cheered on the IRA from Fleet Street — you just didn’t read all about it

He worked as a senior editor on Britain’s biggest newspapers, including The Sunday Times, all the while keeping secret his support for Irish paramilitaries. Now a member of Sinn Féin, Roy Greenslade explains why he still thinks the atrocities were justified

Sunday February 28 2021, 12.01am, The Sunday Times

One grandson asks: “Why did you become an Irish republican? After all, you’re not Irish.” Another grandson asks: “When did you become a republican? Why? When?” These are simple enough questions, although answering them is anything but simple. Much tougher questions have been asked about me by journalists since the 2008 publication of Flat Earth News by Nick Davies. In my Wikipedia entry it states that Nick “exposed” my having secretly written for the Sinn Féin newspaper, An Phoblacht, while I was a senior executive at The Sunday Times.

A report about the book in The Independent said he had “outed” me. He neither exposed nor outed me. I made a conscious decision to tell the truth after years of concealing my republican sympathies, choosing to do so through someone I could trust. Nick and I remain good friends.

He related how I used a pseudonym for my An Phoblacht columns, George King, a reversal of King George, as bland an English name as I could come up with. He also told how, after the murders of three IRA volunteers in Gibraltar in 1988, I had engaged in subterfuge to direct a reporter towards evidence that contradicted the version of events that had taken hold within the newspaper. More of Gibraltar in a moment. I will deal also with the rest of that Wikipedia entry:

“Greenslade also spoke at a Sinn Féin conference in London on the 30th anniversary of the hunger strikes, and he wrote an article on the same subject for An Phoblacht. He has had a house in Co Donegal for many years, and a close personal friend is Pat Doherty, who from 1988 until 2009 was vice-president of Sinn Féin, and who has been publicly named as a former member of the IRA army council. He also stood surety for IRA member John Downey, one of the suspects in the 1982 bombing of Hyde Park, which killed four soldiers.”

I have decided, at last, to address this matter of my covert political beliefs because various critics — some named, many more remaining anon

Singtel forcing customers to subscribe to unnecessary add-ons.

I am sick and tired of Singtel continuing to take advantage of people by making them sign up for add-on services with every recontract/change of plan. Every time i recontract, i'm forced to sign up for certain unnecessary services such as Apple Music, Spotify, Singtel Newsstand-Storytel, Singtel Newsstand-Magzter, Singtel Newsstand-ST, Viu Premium OTT, ZoneAlarm, Amazon Prime etc. While it's free/provided at a promotional price for the first month or so, I can imagine how some people who have forgotten or are unaware that they are subscribed for such add-ons eventually forget to unsubscribe and are subsequently charged for them. It has happened to me in the past and it's why I make it a point to unsubscribe from these add-ons even before I leave the Singtel store.

What really annoyed this time was learning that i was unable to unsubscribe from their ZoneAlarm Mobile Security add on from day one of the new contract (which was 22 July 2020). I was told that i had to wait 3 months (ie. until after 22 Oct 2020) before being able to unsubscribe, less i get charged for it. While i found it ridiculous, I accepted it and added it to my calendar. However, come 18 Oct 2020, my bill reflected that I have been charged for this service. This was confusing as it was supposed to be a free service until 22 Oct 2020. Further, as mentioned above, i was unable to unsubscribe from this service until after that date (which I eventually did on 23 Oct).

After a week of waiting with no response to my query, i finally got into contact with a Singtel representative on Whatsapp. After a lengthy discussion (due to the representative's poor english and failure to understand my frustration), i was informed that this amount charged to me would be refunded in my next bill.

While I am glad this ordeal is over, this should not be part of the customer experience. If i had not checked my bill and blindly paid for it, i would not have known that i was being charged for a service that (1) was supposed to be free for the period and (2) i was unable to unsubscribe from.

I also expect that Singtel will "forget" to refund me come my next bill and that i would have to contact them again. This has happened in the past. It's very clear how little faith I have in Singtel or their customer service.

Frankly their "shady" practices disgust me and i'll probably switch over to Starhub come the end of this contract.

Edit: Didn't think it was even necessary to clarify this but by "force", I was clearly

[MCU] Marvel Overhaul (Phase One)

Basically this is a rewrite/reimagining/reorganization of the MCU from its beginnings to Present Day. Some things remain the same, some things ultimately change, but hopefully things work out for the best.

A couple of notes here, I have maintained the "no mutants" rule up until the Fox Acquisition. However, I have pilfered The Fantastic Four for my version of the universe. Furthermore, while I don't use Spider-Man until Civil War, TASM and its moribund sequel never happened here, so plot points from the first Amazing Spider-Man (namely The Lizard) will appear in my version of Homecoming.

What follows is a brief synopsis of each film and the major changes there in.

PHASE ONE

Overall the structure of Phase One remains mostly in tact. It focuses on the origin stories of the main heroes while also setting up its capstone team up of Avengers. Of all the "Phases", it is the one that remains the most unchanged from the real timeline.

Iron Man (2008)

There are very few changes to 2008's Iron Man, save for the fixed casting of Don Cheadle as James Rhodes versus Terrence Howard. A slight alteration to the beginning (a Stark Industries Shareholder meeting rather than an awards ceremony) and a subplot for Rhodey in the First Act of him trying to track down Tony while he is in captivity. Obadiah Stane remains the villain, but he has a bit more to do in this version. Both the Mandarin and AIM are namedropped in this film, but neither would appear till much later. Post-Credits Scene Remains the Same.

The Incredible Hulk (2008)

While you would think the Hulk would be a major source of change, it actually is more additions and subtle changes that streamline the process. We keep the same basic plot structure in play, albeit with recasting Mark Ruffalo versus Edward Norton. It's not a slam on Norton, I just think Ruffalo is a more convincing Bruce Banner. Banner is hiding in the Canadian Northwest Territories, as opposed to Brazil. Ross still uses a modified version of a Super Soldier Serum on Emil Blonsky, who actively pursues him. Empire State University is specifically named as the school where Banner and Dr. Betty Ross worked, and is also where Samuel Sterns worked.

The biggest addition is Jennifer Walters into the universe, as she is the place where Banner crashes while he is hiding out in New York attempting to retrieve his lost medical data (destroyed in Blonsky/Ross' first attempt at capturing him in Canada). This obviously has implications for fu

High Times IPO - A Dying Brand —> From Selling Mags to Selling Bags

High Times is a - beloved - American monthly magazine and cannabis brand with offices in Los Angeles and New York City. The magazine was founded in 1974 by Tom Forçade and the publication advocates the legalization of cannabis. The magazine has been involved in the marijuana-using counterculture since its inception.

>Hightimes Holding Corp., parent of High Times, revealed that it has abandoned its efforts to list on the NASDAQ, a goal it had been pursuing for since mid-2017. The company launched an offering two years ago at $11 per share through the Reg A+ process, and it reported that it would extend its Reg A+ capital raise until 4.545 million shares had been sold or until March 31st. It disclosed in an SEC filing that it recently sold 363,636 shares at $5.50 in a private placement to Ontario-based Rayray Investments (Raymond Leach, an original investor in MedReleaf), a 50% discount to where it has been selling shares.

High Times securities lawyers, Stephen Weiss and Megan Penick of L.A. based Michelman Robinson LLP, confirmed in an email interview that the company can not accept sales until they get their annual report filed and publicly available for investors.

Harvest Acquisitions

It was in March that Harvest Health announced an $80 million buyout of that entire company. Then, literally two months later, we see a letter of intent filed by Hightimes now and Harvest saying,

>"Okay well, we're actually going to buy the California assets of Have a Heart."

Why that was contradictory is that Harvest had just been on an investor call telling people, when an analyst asked,

>"Why are you doing this deal?" They said, "Well, we want a stronger footprint in California."

It didn't make sense that two months later they're getting rid of everything they just bought in California.

Additionally, in the last month there have beenmultiple news reports questioning if Harvest even has ownership or control of the cannabis licenses to sell to High Times.

Very little cash actually changes hands in the deals crafted by High Times; instead it has announced millions of stock *(which isn’t pub

Buttigieg, Biden, and Warren on anger

Joe Biden is having a big campaign rally in Philadelphia today and this excerpt from his speech was released in advance:

"Some say Democrats don't want to hear about unity. That they are angry--and the angrier you are--the better. That's what they are saying to have to do to win the Democratic nomination. Well, I don't believe it. I believe Democrats want to unify this nation. That's what we've always been about. Unity.

"If the American people want a president to add to our division, to lead with a clenched fist, closed hand and a hard heart, to demonize the opponents and spew hatred--they don't need me. They already have a President who does just that. I am running to offer our country--Democrats, Republicans and Independents--a different path." ( https://www.philly.com/politics/joe-biden-rally-philadelphia-donald-trump-presidential-election-20190518.html)

Read that in contrast to remarks Elizabeth Warren made during her Senate campaign immediately following the Ford/Kavanaugh hearings (noteworthy that Biden will recite the above paragraphs right after the restrictive abortion laws passed in Georgia and Alabama):

"I feel like this is what's going on all around this country. It's not just women who are not entitled to be angry. Girls aren't supposed to be angry because it makes us unattractive to powerful men who want us to be quiet. And it's not just women--everyone else who has less power should be quiet because ultimately what this is about is this about power. This is about who's got it and who doesn't plan to let go of it.

"So I'll tell you this today, I am angry and I own it. I plan to use that anger to take back the house, to take back the Senate, to put Democrats in charge." (https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1916585158637419)

Also important to recognize that Trump dismissed Warren as being a "very angry person" this week.

Finally, here's Pete Buttigieg on anger during a grassroots fundraiser in Minneapolis earlier this month:

"I get asked from time to time, why I don't seem angrier. And I get that because there's a lot to be angry about right now. There's a lot to be upset about. There's a lot to be despondent about in the trajectory of this country.

Patterns are setting in, in the life of this country that have the darkest echoes in the history of our country a

Bungie Weekly Update - 08/27/2015

Source: https://www.bungie.net/7_Bungie-Weekly-Update---08272015/en/News/News?aid=13430

This week at Bungie we led a mission against the Cabal inside the Dreadnaught.

That loot-filled fortress is ours to conquer. We can’t have a space-faring professional military unit messing up the joint – or the rest of our solar system, for that matter – so we went in there and kicked some ass. As always, we let the community lead the way. For this mission, Mr. Fruit was on point.

Any seasoned Guardian knows that Strikes are cooperative encounters designed for three people. For this reveal, we brought a couple hundred thousand along for the ride. If you were one of them, thanks for watching! If you were not, we captured the event and force-fed it to YouTube.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4rwWia8LwM

You’ll have the chance to play this new Strike – along with many other missions – in a few short weeks. This won’t be last reveal between now and then. Next up, Laced Up Lauren will join us in the Court of Oryx. Same Twitch time. Same Twitch channel.

And then there’s this, hot off the presses:

While you wait for our next broadcast, you can set your Destination for your local newsstand to read more about what awaits us in the rings around Saturn. Edge Magazine has the inside scoop. See The Taken King through their eyes.

###Escalation

Once you’ve completed the new story campaign, a whole new suite of endgame activities will beckon. That’s where Strikes get even more challenging. When you seek context for the Destiny endgame, look no further than the Creative Director for The Taken King - also known as the guy who led the construction of your Vault of Glass...

Luke Smith: In our Strike the Dreadnaught reveal earlier this week, we showed some and told some about how we wanted Strikes to move forward into Year 2.

  • Strike replayability is augmented by variability.
  • Bosses with more interested combat phases and less vitality.
  • Strike-specific rewards.
    • E.g., Armor drops that look like trophies from the Strike boss
    • E.g., weapons that only drop from certain Strikes

But those aren't the only changes coming to Strikes. We've also looked at the programming/Strike playlists and made some changes there, too.

Our desired Nightfall experience is the weekly ritual where you get together with your friends for a test of thumbskill and allow players to optimize for gea

New SandersForPresident Tuesday rules are IN EFFECT - click here for more info and the NEWS MEGATHREAD

#What's happening on Tuesdays and Thursdays

Starting right now, submissions to /r/SandersForPresident on Tuesdays and Thursdays are limited to text-post and activism-based submissions only. All of the other rules still apply. As previously explained, this new and fun development is to motivate and enable more direct activism (and less slacktivism) from readers of /r/SandersForPresident in order to get Bernie Sanders elected president, which is the whole point of this subreddit's existence. To get started, read the Weekly Action Thread.

And what about this "news megathread" business?

Since you can't post news links directly to the subreddit, we've made this thread for you to post news links in. Top level comments in this thread MUST contain a link to a news story, and top level comments will be subject to repost guidelines so we can keep our information somewhat in order. Top level comments not containing a link to a news story will be removed.

Below is a list of the most relevant and important news stories that you have posted. I will be updating it throughout the day, but I am not a robot, so any news link posted in late morning and mid-day probably won't show up in the list below till late afternoon.

Android Battery Life Improvement Guide (No Root)

My phone's battery was pretty bad (old note 5, retaining only 70% of battery life). It wouldn't even last me a day! It was also draining battery fast when the screen was off. Here's how I significantly improved my battery life:

  1. Disable bloatware:

Go into your settings and find your applications. Then disable or uninstall everything you dont need. A lot of the time, system apps like Google Play Newsstand can't be uninstalled, but keep getting updated and stay in the background. Disable all of these apps. (Also consider disabling all the apps your carrier installed, since you'll never use it anyway). If your phone has a feature to keep apps asleep all the time, use it to keep several of your apps asleep (Samsung phones do this: Device Maintenance).

  1. Fix "wakelocks"

When you turn off your phone screen, the goal is to put your phone into a "deep sleep" for as much of the screen off time as possible. Wakelocks prevent your phone from entering a deep sleep, and keep your phone locked in the "awake" position. This can be caused by several different apps, and usually leads to a much lower battery life. Download "WakeLock Detector Lite" from the Play Store and use your computer to set it up. Once you do this, it will monitor your apps and tell you which ones are causing wakelocks. For me, it was the Google app as number 1, followed by Samsung Focus (email) and some other apps. After reinstalling the Google app, those wakelocks went away. I also changed the sync interval to prevent Samsung Focus from sucking all the battery.

  1. Use Accubattery

AccuBattery is a really good app on the play store that monitors your phone's battery, how fast it charges, discharges, how much the battery has degraded, what apps are using the most battery, and so on. Over time, you start to realize what takes up a ton of battery, and what barely takes any battery up. It also monitors the amount of time your phone is in a deep sleep mode, and gives statistics on whether the screen is on/off. It can be useful for spotting problems.

  1. Turn off NFC and Bluetooth. Keep the brightness low if you can

While Bluetooth isn't that bad, NFC can really kill battery on most phones, and usually isn't used that much

  1. USE POWER SAVER MODE

While this may be really obvious, the difference between high performance and power saver mode on my phone was almost 50% of the battery.

  1. Give "Pixel Filter" a try.

Pixel Filter is an app on the play store that basically turns off any percen

Respect Ultimate Green Goblin (Marvel, 1610)

Respect Green Goblin

>You want to know my secrets. But you can't know. Because what is happening inside me is constantly evolving. I can feel it. I can feel my own cellular evolution. Tickle tickle tickle.

Origin: After injecting himself with an experimental super soldier serum known as the Oz formula, Norman Osborn transformed into the monstrous Green Goblin and became the arch nemesis to Spider-Man.

History: Billionaire industrialist Norman Osborn built himself a corporate empire, with the height of his success exemplified by a military contract to produce a super soldier serum for the U.S. government. When Norman discovered the Oz formula he designed was a possible success, with a spider injected with the formula granting his son Harry's friend Peter Parker fantastic spider powers, Norman decided to test the serum on himself. Rather than splice the formula with spider DNA, norman spliced it with his own. The results were a catastrophic explosion that forever changed him into the Green Goblin.

Norman steadily evolved over time as his mind waxed and waned out of lucidity. He fixated on Spider-Man, alternating between an obsession with revenge and a desire to claim credit for creating one of the world's greatest heroes. He quickly established himself as Spider-Man's deadliest villain. Norman's frequent prison breakouts and the discovery that the Oz formula made him functionally immortal made it clear that their rivalry would be endless, and if there is a way to stop Norman permanently it has yet to be discovered.

Powers: Norman can transform into a large green-skinned monster with claws and bony protrusions. In this form he has immense strength and durability, as well as the ability to produce and manipulate explosive fiery blasts. The Oz formula grants Norman a degree of regeneration that allows him to recover from almost any injury over time.

[Dev] AccuBattery - battery stats for power users

Hello /r/androidapps, I'm happy to announce AccuBattery. It's hard to summarize the features in a sentence, but basically, we show you almost everything we can measure without root.

So what can you see in this app? An imgur gallery with the highlights.

(And sorry for the unholy wall of text...)

Introduction

Almost every phone contains a little bit of hardware that can measure the current flow into or out of your battery, in mA or µA. We track this data continuously, but also segment it by screen state (on vs off) and which app was in the foreground. With this data, you can see clearly how your battery was used.

Battery usage tools

This is my LG G4 yesterday evening

44% used while screen was on, mostly browsing Reddit, a bit of Chrome, little bit of Newsstand and Whatsapp. 4.6%/h in screen off, which is a little bit high but not shockingly for this phone.

More importantly, all the data are direct measurements, not estimates. The Android battery use screen is pretty inaccurate, as it uses profiles OEMs made for how much power the screen, the radio, the CPU etc uses, but the computed power usage is often completely off. A fresh adb shell dumpsys batterystats shows for me:

Estimated power use (mAh):
Capacity: 3000, Computed drain: 4166, actual drain: 7650-8070
  Unaccounted: 3484 ( )

Off by almost 50% by its own estimate and often blames the wrong apps. Meh.

Average battery usage and remaining time

Instead of magical numbers that never match reality, the time estimates in AccuBattery are based on data gathered during actual use. At home and at work, I have perfect signal on wifi and mobile, so this LG G4, one of the worst phones in battery life, can actually survive for quite a few hours on a single charge.

With this data, you get a pretty good estimate of how long your battery lasts, for screen on and standby separately. Cure your battery anxiety. 38% remaining? That's 2h SoT or 11h44m standby for me. What's yours?

Real time overlay with power and CPU usage

For power users, there's an overlay mode where you can see the CPU usage per process (top right) and per core (bottom right), and FRAPS style battery usage in mA (lower left), each can be enabled separately.

This tool is surprisingly powerful for kernel tuning and investigating device be

B is for Barnacle

Gray clouds swirled overhead when I opened the shop door, spilling fast over the sky like lint on a treadmill. The storm was supposed to miss us but debris twisting in dust devils whispered otherwise, leaving the ocean air cold and salty. I usually enjoyed forces of nature, but the chill sought out the clothing gaps to bare skin through my shirt holes and sock ends, so I stomped out the pre-roll I’d been puffing out with the heel of my Timbs to retreat indoors. I popped a few tic tacs when my phone vibrated and I saw the severe storm warning alert accompanied by the annoying tone. Seemed the seaside storm wasn’t going to miss us, it was on target to hit all of us in York, Maine dead center, and soon.

I stand out like a sore thumb in the oceanside town of York with my Flatbush gear; Champion hoodie over a vintage Polo tee and all, but I’m not here to blend in. I’m attending the University of New England, focusing on marine biology (thanks to a generous partial scholarship), and I can afford rent here, not to mention the under 40 minute commute to school. My evening job as a sandwich jockey pays the rent and gives me time to study during the lulls we experience in the off season.

I checked my text messages, hoping to hear back about getting coffee with a classmate. No response, it seemed Diane was not interested aside from being my lab partner, no news to me. No word from Ron about getting a beer after work either, so I returned back inside from the smoke break to man the sandwich station. This consisted of reading about cyanobacterial blooms while waiting for any York locals in town off season who direly needed a turkey and cheese during a freak storm. It was nearing 10 PM, and I expected we’d close early due to the last-minute alert and the announcement on the radio about the severity of the weather conditions. I was about to head to the register to ask the owner Janice, who must have been watching something truly vulgar on her laptop, about leaving early when a jingle of the door signaled a customer. A man entered in a dramatic stagger, his left foot dragging in a labored trudging as though he’d limped through hell straight into our modest, seaside convenience store.

Janice greeted him, but his head just hung low, nearly out of view under a sunbleached Sou’wester hat and faded blue raincoat. Stripped by the elements of color, his PVC storm gear was flecked with crusted clumps of gray; they were barnacles. A soggy white beard spilled out from under the

Combined Revenue Models are the Future of Media

Subscription models have increased in popularity among growing numbers of publishers who are shifting their focus away from ad sales – and this trend has gained even more ground over the course of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Advertising revenue has taken a substantial hit over the past few months. Just one example is The New York Times, which estimated a 55% drop in ad revenue. Media organizations have gotten creative with their business models in an attempt to make up for this shortfall, offering readers more flexible payment options to drive up subscriptions.

Companies like BuzzFeed News and The Daily Beast have seen huge upticks in membership as a result, according to Digiday. In addition, publishers such as Gannett, The Washington Post, Time Magazine, and The Philadelphia Inquirer have amassed large coronavirus newsletter audiences—in some cases, twice the size of their regular lists.

“We’ve proven to ourselves that we can be far more agile with this product line,” Kim Fox, a product director at the Philadelphia Inquirer, told Digiday.

Subscription models have been wildly successful across a broad range of sectors. Publishers who pair this powerful strategy with their advertising revenue strategies will be most likely to weather the next wave of uncertainty to hit the media industry.

The future of media: advertising and paid subscriptions

Thanks to the massive amounts of data-driven transactions that occur on a daily basis, publishers and advertisers alike are better informed than ever before about their audiences’ behaviors and preferences. They now have the ability to create highly relevant and targeted advertising campaigns that maximize their budgets as well as their brands’ reach.

While advertising will continue to serve as a crucial revenue stream for publishers, subscriptions have proved their ability to act as a powerful complement to the ad sales model with [exclusive, creative offerings that strengthen b

ZTE Axon 7 vs LG Nexus 5: A Comparison

edit: I thought I should let whoever comes back to this post know that I just initiated an RMA for my Axon 7. A pretty major issue propped up: touches on the touchscreen were not registering correctly, it seemed like they were registering about a half inch off from where I actually pressed. It was temporarily fixed with a reset, but came back the next day. I also tried a factory reset but it came back again. So hopefully I just got unlucky and the next one is better.

I recently bought a ZTE Axon 7 after having used my red Nexus 5 32GB for about 2 and a half years. There are tons of reviews online so I’ll just talk about how it compares specifically to the Nexus 5. This comparison is done with a rooted Nexus 5 running Android 7.0 and a non-rooted ZTE Axon 7 on Android 6.0.1. I have received the 9/19/16 OTA update from ZTE which has improved some things about the phone. Cell service is T-Mobile in the Orange County area. This turned out quite long but hopefully it’s useful to somebody!

Screen: The AMOLED screen on the Axon is a big step up from the Nexus, it’s just beautiful. When I look at the two phones side by side, AMOLED vs LED is very noticeable, especially due to the great colors on the A7 and the slight backlight bleed on the N5. 1440p vs 1080p is less noticeable, even though the A7 has a 21% higher PPI despite the larger screen. The A7 gets a good deal brighter and is more usable in direct sunlight than the N5. Big Upgrade

Battery: One of the most important features to me was battery life, after coming from the torture that was the Nexus 5 battery. With a 3250Mah battery I easily get 6-7 hours of SOT. This includes mostly reddit, email, web browsing, YouTube and Maps using gps. I’m very happy with the battery life. It’s nice to not have to manually toggle gps, wifi, bluetooth, etc to squeeze every minute of battery life out of the N5 where I would get about 3 hours of SOT being pretty careful. Additionally, the A7 supports quick-charge 3.0, which is awesome. Big Upgrade

Audio: The audio on the A7 is one of the biggest selling points of the phone and a feature I’m pretty happy with. The speakers are much, much, much better than the N5 in terms of loudness and clarity. However, I’m definitely not an audiophile so I couldn’t tell too much of a difference when using headphones aside from the fact that the A7 is certainly louder. I tried listening to music through Google Play Music and the stock music player, both with Dolby Atmos on and off

Weekly Resource Discussion: How to Sell Poetry

Hi everyone,

I'd like to start a weekly resource discussion post, to inspire our thinking about writing and submissions. Each week, I'll post an initial resource and ask some discussion questions to get the ball rolling. I'm hoping we can discuss, and that other members will add links of their own with helpful and interesting information relating to the topic.

I'd like to do other weekly and monthly threads, as well - if you have any suggestions for what you'd like to see, please do comment here or PM me.

This week, the discussion topic is Advice on How to Sell Poetry. Here's a site by the poet Neile Graham, where she shares her insights about submissions and publishing.

Resource description from Winning Writers:

>Published poet Neile Graham offers a useful basic overview of manuscript formatting, submission etiquette, and researching markets for your work. "Whatever you do, do it because you believe in your work and you love writing. If you're doing it for recognition and glory you'll burn out fast."

Here are some excerpts from Advice on How to Sell Poetry.

On investigating markets:

>Despite the usefulness of market listings and directories, it can be a good idea to see the magazines before you send your material off to them blindly — the directories aren't good at letting you know what paper magazines physically look like and whether they truly publish work like yours. Friends of mine have horror stories about having work appear in magazines that they were later embarrassed about, simply because they hadn't any idea what the magazine was about or what it looked like before they sent the editors their work. So do your research online. Even print magazines have websites, where they will have their submission guidelines, information about when they are reading submissions, and often samples from recent issues. Obviously, you can usually see entire issues of online magazines, though some require that you pay to see full issues.
>
>For print magazines, besides looking at their websites you may be able to find physical copies at your local public library, college or university library, bookstore, or newsstand.
>
>Find all the magazines that seem to be sympathetic to poetry like yours. Look at back issues and current issues. Check whether they have submiss

[OC][Jenkinsverse] Plugged in Part 11 - King of the hill

Foreword: This time, I've got a couple things.

First off, Arkmuse. I've posted all the existing parts over there, and have linked to the appropriate Arkmuse mirror in each part. Feel free to read it all over there if you want to.

Second off, Wikis. My series has been randomly chosen to receive a wiki page, so I've taken the time to list all currently existing characters over there. There'll be other things, too. As for what specifically, read this part and find out. (Alternatively, if you're reading this one day after I've uploaded it, you can see what it is. I wouldn't recommend it though, because spoilers.)

Now that that's out of the way, enjoy the show!

Mike

The days blur together so easily. Months go by without anything happening. I'm glad that I have Laglo and Ganym to keep me company. I think I might've gone crazy without them.

We were approaching yet another planet. A forest planet. The vegetation here is thick, with fires easily able to spread uncontrollably. I'd better be careful.

I gear up like normal. Fusion sword, cloak, other various tools that I almost never need but bring anyway. The usual. I get into the drop pod and drop down once more.

I'm pretty sure something that wasn't supposed to happen, happened. Again.

Laglo

Okay, nobody shot it down this time, I'm sure of it. Thing is, the only other explanation seemed ridiculous.

"What happened?"

"I think... I think it hit a tree."

"Come on, stop joking and tell me what happened."

"I wish I was joking."

"Really? Those pods are designed to break through things much harder than trees."

"I'm not so sure of that anymore."

"Maybe. Perhaps we got a faulty pod."

"I hope so."

Mike

Yep. It happened again. Shit.

I look up. There should have been a lot of damage, but the most I saw was a couple of broken branches. To make things worse, the pod looked like it had fallen through some kind of massive pachinko machine. As if a simple hole in the side wasn't enough.

The trees here are massive. At least finding shade wouldn't be a problem.

As I consider my situation, I start to notice something strange. There's no wildlife. It's just me, a crashed pod, and plants.

The 1919 Disappearance of Millionaire Theatre Tycoon Ambrose Small: Vanishes from Toronto's Grand Opera House (New "Trail Went Cold" Episode)

In 1919, 56-year old Ambrose Small lived in Toronto and was considered the biggest theatre tycoon in Canada. However, Ambrose and his wife Theresa, who happened to be heiress to the Kormann Brewing Company, decided to sell all their holdings to a Montreal-based firm called Trans-Canada Theaters Limited. They would be paid $1 million upfront along with an additional $750,000 to be paid to them in annual installments over the next several years. On December 2, the day after the deal was completed, Theresa deposited a $1 million cheque in their joint bank account and Ambrose promised to join her that night for dinner. At 5:30 PM, Small had a meeting with his lawyer at his office in Toronto’s Grand Opera House, but after the attorney left, this would be the last time Small was confirmed to be alive.

Ambrose never showed up for dinner with his wife, but since he was notorious for disappearing for days at a time to indulge in his womanizing and gambling habits, Theresa assumed he had gone off to celebrate their successful deal and it would be weeks before he was reported missing to the police. Even though a newsstand operator claimed that Small spoke with him on the evening of December 2, police did not find his story credible and could not confirm that he actually left the Grand Opera House that night. For this reason, rumours circulated that his remains may have been burned in the opera house’s furnace, but no evidence of foul play could be found. Many people were quick to point fingers at Theresa, theorizing that she had reached her breaking point and murdered Ambrose because of his constant womanizing. Ambrose actually had a secret room containing a bed behind his office at the opera house, where he would seduce the actresses and chorus girls from his shows. Ambrose was also carrying on a years-long affair with a mistress named Clara Smith and had lied to his wife about ending it, but investigators became satisfied that neither Theresa or Clara were involved in Ambrose’s disappearance.

The prime suspect turned out to be Small’s personal secretary, John Doughty. On the same day Small went missing, Doughty used the key to Small’s safety deposit at the bank to remove $100,000 in negotiable Canadian Victory bonds. After travelling to Montreal to start his new job with Trans-Canada Theaters Limited, Doughty suddenly disappeared a few weeks later. In November 1920, Doughty was discovered to be working at a paper mill in Oregon under an assumed name and extradite

Howler Magazine Announces Changes

From an email I received this morning:

2019 is bringing a few changes that Howligans like you may want to know about.

We aren’t changing just for the sake of change. We have been doing the hard work of improving Howler’s long-term position and sustainability.

Here’s where we are taking things.

  • The quarterly (4 issues annually) subscription model has been struggle for Howler. You can blame last year’s interruption in the Howler publication calendar, some re-billing mistakes or just the depression caused by USMNT not qualifying.

  • Regardless, we are moving to an issue-by-issue subscription. We’ve tested this model extensively. It’s working great, and the fine folks that like Howler really like this model too.

How will it work?

  • When we have an issue ready to send out, we will run a charge for your single issue and send it out to you. Shipping is still included in the charge. Then we’ll do it again when we have another issue ready to go out.

  • We will not compromise our vision for this publication. We didn’t cut-down the oversized dimensions of the magazine (which makes shipping insane). And we didn’t go for cheap paper or ink, and the content will continue to live to the magazine’s legacy.

"Price increases are great!" — Nobody

  • Since 2012, the cover price of Howler has sat at $15 an issue. Unfortunately it needs to bump to $20. Sky-rocketing prices on printing, shipping and mailing make this a necessity of survival. You gotta do what you gotta do.

But, we have an offer for you.

  • Over the next couple days we’ll send you an email and let you know if you need to go to the site and subscribe to get issue 16. We will also include a $5 coupon for you to use on the first issue.

  • If you still are owed issues of Howler with your existing subscription, we’ll let you know, and you won’t need to do anything but wait for your magazine to arrive in late January.

One more thing to keep in mind.

  • In order to get the new issue (16), you’ll need to buy it directly from the Howler website. A few local soccer shops will carry this issue, but newsstands won’t.

  • I know this is a LONG, potentially boring, businessy email, but it’s important that you understand why we’ve made some of these decisions to keep Howler’s M.E.E. (Maximum Enjoyable Experience).

Thank you! Onward!

Howler

A critique of Bihar aka The lament of a Bihari

Bihar. My home Bihar. A land of waste and haplessness. What are its achievements? Ask its people and they will count none except distant memories of a great empire that once stood across the length and breadth of the subcontinent some two millennia ago. What has it done since then? In one word it can be summarized, nothing.

It has no towns or cities, but only overgrown villages. With no planning or regulations, these villages stretch for kilometers, a hotchpotch of buildings strutting out of each other, ugly, uneven and unplanned. They are large lunch boxes with no beauty and aesthetics. Chunks of concrete put together in a haphazard manner, to be rented for money or displayed in arrogance. There is no pride in huge ugly structure and yet we do not understand. The streets have no name and they are never straight, nor uniform. They meander across the overstretched villages hoping to find an end to their agony until some new construction unceremoniously cuts them off from rest of the city. Buildings freely encroach on roads and lanes; cars, whatever of them exists, parked with no care for the plight of other wayfarers. Poor kids sometimes lying on the street alongside sand and gravel for a construction that is always taking place around the corner. It is more than likely that no permit was given for the construction and none was asked. What was exchanged in the process was some currency notes. That is all the government does here. They are not facilitators but merely rent seekers.

Rent seeking is the biggest industry in the state. Every up and coming young man wants to get in the business of rent seeking. Nobody wants to produce anything, nobody wants to create anything. All everyone has ever wanted is to be the middleman. Whether it be the small time local strongman who collects money from vegetable sellers in the farmers market, for exactly what purpose nobody knows, or the Chief Minister, the highest elected authority from the democratic process, who insists on getting a cut on every contract given out by his own government. Artisans suffer due to lack of work, laborers make their way to other states in search of jobs, politicians promise and steal, civil servants do nothing and steal, road contractors make poor quality roads and steal, party workers break down the law and order situation and are awarded, teachers do not teach and collect wages, poor people work and break their back only to be treated with complete disrespect, paid meagre wages and disc

Italy Report

I just returned from 15 days trip from Italy and I want to share my experience here. Hopefully, some of this will be helpful to people looking around as many suggestions here was for me.

The most important suggestion I received was to not go through travel agency and boy how right you guys were. We were able to complete our trip for nearly half the price the travel agent quoted us. Observing other travel groups in Italy I found other inconveniences like big group can be slowed down by one person, travel by bus instead of train which takes 80% less time and is 90% more comfortable, many lunch/dinner were prefixed, no complete freedom on which place to visit or how much time to spend on which place etc

Skip the guide: We downloaded Rick Steves Android app on our phone and used the audio tour. I don’t know why this app is even free. You can download audio tour for offline use and most of them are one hour long. They will guide you like a dedicated guide. Since you can pause/rewind you can take the tour at your comfort.

Museum Ticket: I highly recommend that not only you do skip the line ticket but also reserve a time so that there is an even shorter line. And for certain place you need to buy the ticket well in advance like Colosseum Underground, Vatican Museum, Uffizi Gallery, dome etc. In case you don’t have a reservation you might be able to sign up for a tour but will be expensive.

Train/Bus Ticket: If you were planning to buy them from the little Tobacco shops (Tabacchi) or newsstand mind the fact that they can close early and not open on holidays. While you can try to buy the ticket from bus driver s/he might not always have it and also costs extra. The bus will not announce every stop and the display might not be working. We used Google Maps and used the stop request button on the bus when the map showed we were near the stop. Google maps also worked perfectly with the detour. Google Trips app was also very helpful. Especially we could plan daily activities making sure we don’t overlap our route. For Venice, buying 48h or 72h ticket might be cheaper as the boat is 7.5 Euro each way.

Validate Your Ticket: Any ticket for public transportation that doesn’t have assigned seat needs to be validated, at least in Venice, Rome, Florence. If you’re caught without a validated ticket the fine can be hefty, ~100 Euro. Some ticket needs to be validated at each use while some only needs to be validated in the first use. And make sure it is validated properly i

Ween biography - as written by Mickey

He posted this on facebook this evening:

I just found the bio I wrote for "quebec" in 2003---the label never used it. some of the sentiments are outdated now as things have drastically changed--but it's funny to read where it was at back then, at least according to my sorry ass:

WTSR (Trenton State College's radio station) was the central source of all things music in my life from 1984 to 1988. Trenton, NJ is about 12 miles south of where I grew up (and still live) in New Hope, PA today. Trenton also had a now legendary club called City Gardens that hosted every important band of the 80's many times, and after 1984 I don't think I missed a single show there. I saw every important band of the day there many times. the Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Husker Du, the Replacements, Fugazi, the Butthole Surfers, Sonic Youth, the Ramones, the Pogues, the list of bands goes on forever and I saw them all. The promoter at city Gardens was a man named Randy Ellis, a legendary and semi-controversial figure in the 80’s local music scene. I only say “semi-controversial” because he would charge 8 dollars to see 4 bands when other clubs would charge 5; if people only knew then. He also became one of my closest friends, and Ween opened for many of the bands on that list above. Randy was also a DJ at WTSR and had the most popular show on the station. His radio show, which was every Wednesday night, was spent promoting the upcoming shows at the club and interviewing the touring bands to help plug the show. I quickly became one of his biggest listeners, and eventually I would get my folks to drive me to the radio station so I could watch him DJ and meet the bands.

My parents were very cool and liberal with letting their 14 year old son be in such an environment, but my family was from the Trenton area and dropping me off at a college campus for a few hours didn't seem all that bad---plus Randy was a truly nice guy and was very cordial to them. Going to City Gardens was another story though---the club was located on Calhoun Street in Trenton, in one of the worst ghettos that New Jersey has to offer. There would be no way in hell my folks would ever let me go there, it was a very dangerous place to be for a 14 year old white boy from the suburbs. Finally, one Friday night I had my father drop me off at the radio station with an agreement that he would pick me up in 4 hours, but I was lying to him and wasn't going to the radio station at all. I was going to my first show at Ci

I’m Jonathan Shaw, and I’ll tell you how I went from being a legendary old school tattoo master to being dubbed “The Next Bukowski” by Rolling Stone Magazine. AMA!

I will be here to answer your questions at 4pm ET/1pm PT

Here is the Rolling Stone Article: http://www.rollingstone.com/culture/features/how-legendary-tattoo-artist-jonathan-shaw-became-the-next-bukowski-20150428

You might know the name Jonathan Shaw as belonging to the first tattoo artist to ever appear on The Tonight Show David Letterman. Or maybe you’ve seen my likeness depicted by Pulitzer Prize- winning artist Art Spiegelman on the cover of the The New Yorker. You might know me as the son of legendary Swing-era bandleader Artie Shaw—or maybe the tattooed thug giving Clint Eastwood beef in the movie Tightrope.

You may have seen the magazine I founded back in the early ’90s, International Tattoo Art, at your local newsstand. Or you might have read my novel, Narcisa: Our Lady of Ashes, published by Johnny Depp’s HarperCollins imprint, or my recent archeological dig into the history of tattoo art, Vintage Tattoo Flash, on Powerhouse Books.

You may have followed excerpts from my evolving Scab Vendor – Confessions of a Tattoo Artist memoir series online. Or perhaps you only remember the name Jonathan Shaw as the infamous “Tattoo Artist to the Stars” who made headline news for being indicted by a New York City Grand Jury and charged with 89 felony counts of illegal weapons possession.

Or . . . maybe you’ve never heard of me at all. I’m going to assume that’s the case and write a few more words of introduction.

For decades, I was a world-famous “celebrity tattoo artist.” Over the course of a long, surreal career, I became one of the most infamous and influential tattoo men on the planet. My client list included cops, criminals and captains of Industry, along with many famous names. Names like Johnny Depp, The Cure, The Velvet Underground, The Pogues, The Ramones, Marilyn Manson, Jim Jarmusch, Joe Coleman, Johnny Winter, Kate Moss, and the notorious Great Train Robber, Ronald Biggs—not to mention Tupac Shakur and all his bitches. Even Vanilla Ice was lining up for an appointment - much to my embarrassment - but hey, it was the 90s, right?

Oddly enough, I’m still one of the most respected names in the tattoo profession today—despite having officially retired over 15 years ago from an industry with an absurdly short memory—an industry I was unwittingly instrumental in pioneering.

After embarking on a decades-long hiatus from the skin trade, I’ve worked exclusively as a full-time “gonzo” author. Since becoming an outlaw literary cult figure with a

On Jan 29th, 2020, ditched dreams of NASDAQ Listing

ZTE Axon 7 vs LG Nexus 5: A Comparison (X-Post from /r/Android

edit: I thought I should let whoever comes back to this post know that I just initiated an RMA for my Axon 7.
