Stick and poke I did a while back when I was still finding my groove. Used a 9RL. Best needle to use for bold lines and packs the ink in quickly too πŸ’

You could probably cut the groove in an LP record in a branching and merging pattern in a way that the needle would randomly choose one path or the other, giving you variability in what you’re listening to, approximately imitating a live session.

Anybody else's LP version of WAC skip eternally at the end of Broken Needle? It doesn't appear that there are any grooves leading to the label on the B-side of the album.

This is genius to me. Insane attention to detail on Manson's part, if it is truly intentional. Shocked me, and gave me chills. The end of the track makes every needle "broken". This album literally can't be too short, because it never ends. Curious to know if anybody else noticed this, if they've purchased a copy on vinyl?

Has there ever been an attempt to produce a medium like vinyl for audio recordings, which still need to be played with the needle in the groove and all that, but which has a higher resolution than standard vinyl?

It seems like vinyl records as we know them today was the last innovation in that medium judging by the latest releases, or am I wrong and there are iterations of the technology that have come out since then that record better and sound better? Could the needle-in-the-groove method be improved? If so, why hasn't it?

Cheers!

Posting for My tattoo artist, she used a tattoo needle to get grooves in the shoe for the design. tips on how to get the lines black? tried tattoo ink and leather dye so far but the dye spreads too much and the ink doesn’t take well. she would use sharpie but it turns blue over time and gets muddled

Here is my growing collection so far. Yes I own a few Casiopea records as I've been a fan since I saw Akira Jimbo when I was 8 years old back in 1999. The collection is growing all thanks to buying a Onra record on a limb while checking out "Needle to the groove" in San Jose earlier this year!

If you lubed up a record and needle would the familiar crackle and additional sounds of the record player still play, or would the needle glide too smoothly through the grooves of the record to make any noise at all?

I'm not asking if the song itself would play (my guess is no since you've screwed up the record), but what would be playing in this case? Would any of those great, additional record player sounds play? Would I just hear ear-splitting screeching? Would it just be a weird, subdued squelching?

How do people know where to put down the needle on a record player when the grooves are so small and you can't really "tell" where a song starts?

Or can you? I see records and all I see is a bunch of concentric grooved rings with no obvious beginning except for "somewhere" on the outer edge. I know the concentric rings are actually a huge spiral, but I still don't get how someone finds individual songs or even the beginning of the record.

Have a record player needle sticking out of your car to drag on the road in a specially designed groove.

The groove then plays a recording of a gentleman with an old-timey accent describing the things you drive by. This also encourages people to break the speed limit to make the man make funny voices.

As the needle approaches the centre of a record, its speed increases, right? Are the grooves cut differently towards the middle of a record to account for this?

Is it magic or is it science?
