A Miracle by definition is "a surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore considered to be the work of a divine agency." Anyone who has experienced this, what's your story?

[All] Morality, Virtue, Natural law, Justice: help with definitions and terms.

On this sub we often run into problems with definitions of even the most basic terms. In this thread I want to present a couple of concepts and ask for your preferred terms for them.

  • The first concept is what ought to be. The set of principles upon which you think the society ought to be organized. The reasoning behind you political opinions and activism. This can include any underlying principles that guide how things like political organization, property and justice systems are determined.

  • The second concept is what makes a person good or bad. The set of rules, qualities or actions that determine whether a person is good/bad. This does not necessarily imply any punishments, rewards or privileges for being good/bad, although it can do so. This can just include some outstanding things that would make a person exceptionally good/bad, or a baseline standard of behaviour that makes a person not-bad.

Pick a term that you think fits these concepts best, such as Morality, Virtue, Natural law, Justice or one of your choosing.

Also, feel free to provide an alternative classification, split those concepts or introduce similar new ones.

In his Summa Theologiae, Thomas Aquinas claims that Natural Law can be added to, but not subtracted from. How does he reconcile his own definition of natural law with his assertion law that it can change?

From my understanding, Aquinas argues that natural law is sort of a translation of eternal law by god, and that it's necessary because we imperfect humans cannot comprehend eternal law.

But if natural law can be added to as Aquinas claims, doesn't that mean that god picks and chooses which aspects of eternal law to impress upon the human spirit/translate?

I know nothing about philosophy but I'm writing a paper explaining how his arguments allow for a god that is good, praiseworthy, and the basis of our moral obligations and this really has me hung up.

What were the implications of Thomas Aquinas' definition of natural law?

I have come to conclusion (please disagree if you think I am wrong) that Aquinas, put simply, defined natural law as the participation of humans in eternal law though their own free will and reason.

My question is, what were the implications of this?

Any answers/links to good sources would be much appreciated.

"But Why Worship Peryite?" An Answer

>#“But Why Worship Peryite?” An Answer

Recently, I’ve been noticing a lot of threads and posts concerning the Daedric Prince of Pestilence and of course, me being me, I’m reading and debating commenting with my own stuff. I mean, as the Peryite Guru, it’s kind of my civic duty. But considering there has been a surge of Peryite topics with various degrees of correctness, and that I have an unfortunate mild case of writing phobia that seems to effect everything but my novel (which is taking up most of my free time these days), I’ve been lacking in the creativity and initiative departments lately. But I really wanted to get this done, because I’ve been seeing a lot of…misconceptions regarding the Taskmaster that has been really irking the ever-loving crap out of me. So hobey-ho, let’s go. As always, I hope you all enjoy it and drink your ovaltine. - /u/Al-Hatoor

Side Note: To avoid this post from being too large, I highly recommend reading my Peryite Information Megathread 2.0 post, where I have compiled all of the known references to Peryite ranging from in-game texts and dialogue to out of game materials (except for the Afflicted’s Note found in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which you can read in the link) Also reading the Peryite page I rewrote on UESP might be some help too.

#“But Isn’t He The Weakest of the Princes? Lame!”

>***“Peryite is the daedric prince of tasks, order and pestilence. He is considered one of the weakest of the princes, despite being depicted as a dragon.”*** – Skyrim Loading Screen

Because of the above quote found in Skyrim, many people believe that amongst the Lords of Tumult that Peryite is the weakest Daedric Prince. Not only is this the only piece of information in any Elder Scrolls game that refers to the Daedric Prince as being weak, it is also wrong for a variety of reasons.

A lot of people seem to believe that in the TES Universe, gods have definable power levels that places them above and below the rest (in the same way that some people believe that the gods are either mostly good or mostly evil, when they don’t actually follow the standards for morality set by mortals; Blue & Orange Morality FTW). This way of thinking is fueled by statements like the above loading screen, to developer commentaries (like MK’s ‘most powerful

Is evolution theory "trivial"?

Charles Darwin didn't know about DNA, RNA etc. and so coming up with the idea of evolution via natural selection was very impressive, which is why we still celebrate him today.

However, with what we know now about DNA, RNA, proteins, cel biology etc., I was wondering how "trivial" (in the way mathematicians use it to indicate a logical and "easy" way to go from A to B) is the theory of evolution? I.e., doesn't it just follow logically from what we know about the small scale building blocks of the living things in the natural world, and what we know about how on the larger scale organisms interact with eachother and with their environment?

To me evolution is just "we only need natural/physical laws to explain the current variety of species, and the variety within species, and we know it arose from a single organism that lived a couple of billion years ago". And for full disclosure, that's also what I "believe", so I'm not making this argument to find ammunition against evolution ;-). I hope you have some arguments why this very simplistic definition is wrong!

I could turn my previous question around, and ask: could we imagine any other "process" or "theory" that still made use of only natural laws and what we know of biochemistry and basic interactions between organisms (and their environment), that could rival with the "evolution theory". Or let me ask a slightly simpler question: Can we imagine (or are there) natural processes that (could) cause speciation that would not fall under the definition of "the evolution theory" (and if so, in what sense is the theory of evolution complete, when it comes to explaining speciation).

I guess what I'm trying to get at is: How broad is the definition of evolution theory. If we start with my definition, namely from the basis that there are only natural laws governing this universe, and everything that follows under these laws is called "evolution theory" if it pertains to speciation, then what is the evolution theory, other than a basket of interpretations of large scale observations we have on what small scale processes do? My point being is that the only way my "everything follows from natural laws" definition of evolution is falsifiable is when supernatural forces are clearly measured as causing the speciation. And so if my definition is "reasonable", how falsifiable is the theory of evolution?

Of course within my definition of evolution theory, it is still very valuable, in the way that statistical physics

edit: I'm giving silver to every comment that rocks and would be helpful so look for silver comments. i'm not an expert but there are lawyers and credit counselors chiming in so check their content!

edit 2: I kept getting asked questions about ambulance and I knew there was something I wanted to remember. I finally dug through the old training manual I had created and now I remember - Ambulance billing SHOULD work the same as those below as far as disputes etc.. The exception that I remembered was: the reason people were going into collections CONSTANTLY for ambulance visits, was because ambulance billing is different. They send the check for the ambulance amount to the patient directly, so the patient will pay the ambulance bill - and then the patients would cash that check, and never pay the ambulance bill, and then get put into collections. As far as insurance was concerned, they DID pay the ambulance bill and it's not their problem. But the ambulance company never saw the $ because the patient would spend it. So - before you cash a check, make sure it's really supposed to be kept by you.

I got looped into a thread about medical collections that started with a very inaccurate "tip," and saw that there was a FREAKING TON of misinformation floating around about what to do when you have medical debt.

So I thought I'd share the knowledge that I have on the topic from a few years as a trainer in a medical billing & collections agency.

Disclaimer: I worked for one agency that had multiple sites nationwide in the US. I am not a lawyer, I am NOT giving legal advice. I am just sharing what I know from a few years in the industry including a competitor study that we did to find out how our competitors handle the same situations. I will not share the name of the company I worked for; they were most definitely shady in some areas and I am not looking to dox myself either. If anyone has more knowledge than me on the topic, please chime in. I am also not looking for a "Healthcare in the US is broken" because yeah no shit Sherlock; this isn't the thread where we can fix that. Oh also I will swear sometimes in this post.

I Can Make You Hot!: The Supermodel Diet (by Kelly Killoren Bensimon) -- Part One

NOTE: Although I was originally planning on posting this whole review at once, I was about a third of the way through the book when I realized that I was already quickly approaching the full length of my previous posts. So, in the interest of making this a pleasant experience for us all, I'm sharing the first half now, and will follow up with the second half in a few days. And honestly, KKB's writing reminds me of Inception in that it's almost certainly hazardous to spend too much time immersed in any single sitting. So fasten your seatbelts, and enjoy the ride!

-------

So, a lot of you guys have been asking about Kelly Killoren Bensimon's I Can Make You Hot! (wow, is this what it feels like to be an influencer?), and I am thrilled to report that my adventure through this book's 264 pages was even more confounding than I could have possibly anticipated. I have a feeling that I'll need every ounce of my strength if I want to have any shot at conveying to you all exactly how bonkers this purported self-help book is, so -- without further ado -- let's begin.

I Can Make You Hot!, subtitled The Supermodel Diet, has a fairly straightforward premise. Kelly, who "has done it all when it comes to nutrition and her body," will share her hard-earned wisdom with us, her humble readers. Or, as she says in her own words on the back cover:

>In I Can Make You Hot! I'm going to clue you in to all the tricks I've learned from a variety of experts and that I now use to live my own life. I want you to be the best you -- happy, attractive, shapely, interested, interesting, and most of all, smokin' HOT!

The blurb promises that the experience of reading this book will be "like rooming with a supermodel and going on a diet together." Truly, only someone with Kelly Bensimon's tenuous grasp on reality would say this as if it were something exciting, rather than a scenario taken directly out of the third circle of hell.

But before we can truly learn what it means to be HOT!, we're treated to a foreword by none other than Russell Simmons. As he shares with us:

>Kelly is a great mother and is constantly instilling strong principals [sic] in her daughters. In my opinion, that's the essence of being HOT. Kelly is smokin'.

And just like that, I Can Make You Hot! is knocked out of the running for First-Book-I've-Read-By-A-Bravolebrity-That-Is-Also-Free-From-Glaring-Typographical-Errors. Better luck next time, champ!

Different countries want startups to relocate there and are offering incentives - would you take them?

Hey all,

I just published some research on what different countries are doing to entice entrepreneurs to relocate. Whether visas, grants, mentorship, coaching... there's a lot.

Question for the group: Would you consider relocating / moving your startup post-COVID?

Content:

Visas, Incentives, and More: Here’s What Countries are Doing to Attract Remote Companies

As lockdowns ease, more than a few entrepreneurs are thinking about what’s next for them and their businesses, especially if they’ve chosen to stay remote. As news hit about remote worker visas in Barbados, or as small towns and cities are more equipped than ever to lure weary big-city remote workers, you’ve got to ask… what about the founders?

Sure, remote founders can work from anywhere just like their teams. Where things get interesting, though, is that many countries are launching programs to lure entrepreneurs to relocate their businesses or start up a new company - and with them come access to public funds, free visas, and even a path to citizenship. As governments think about recovery from COVID and general growth for the future, a handful are getting serious about offering a lot of perks to entice entrepreneurs to relocate.

All programs have three key elements to them, though in differing quantities:

  1. Accelerated / extended resident visa permits.
  2. Access to the country’s startup support ecosystems.
  3. Funding / financial support.

So if you’ve ever thought about relocating, being an entrepreneur is one of the fastest tickets out. In this article, I’ve highlighted a mix of programs, but it’s not necessarily exhaustive. I tried to focus on the programs with unique elements or that are easy to apply for. While large funding requirements or other hurdles may not be a problem for many companies, my goal here was to highlight the programs that work for the majority of entrepreneurs, including small businesses and freelancers who recently went remote.

France: La French Tech

France has a long history of artisan entrepreneurship but less in the big tech or digital scene. However, the government is hoping to change that with its La French Tech visa programs.

There are three kinds of La French Tech visas:

  • For entrepreneurs launching businesses in France.
  • For employees joining French startups.
  • For investors putting money into French startups.

The founder-focused program requires you to get accepted to one of France’s 30+ startup incubators and accelerators, s

The partnership has been cancelled! Discussion about it can be found here.

#The announcement

The partnership announcement was made about 1.5 hour ago, and Riot Games talks about being "excited" for a partnership with a city that "will be the home and workplace for more than a million citizens from around the world who want to be part of building a new model for sustainable living, working, and prospering in Saudi Arabia."

This announcement was then posted on the official LEC account, which resulted in people either being outraged or mocking those who are outraged (as you would expect), and was then posted to the r/leagueoflegends subreddit. Further posts were then made, including an article about the partnership and a satirical post about the North American league partnering with North Korea.

#Twitter reactions

As it turns out, employees of Riot Games were completely blindsided by this after only being told about it last night. This led to every single member of the European on-air talent team as well as other casters, multiple people from within the company, former casters and team staff turning to Twitter to express their anger (credit to the r/leagueoflegends OP for compiling the beginning of this, as well as Spideraxe, ReganDryke and TBSkyen for retweeting a bunch of these tweets).

I Read It So You Don't Have To: Love Italian Style (by Melissa Gorga)

As much as I've been enjoying our literary exploration of RHONY's trailblazing cosmopolites, I think it's time to mix things up and travel approximately thirty miles down the road to get a taste of the suburban paradise that is the non-Jersey-Shore part of New Jersey. And since I'm sure we could all use a little bit of extra help keeping that spark alive -- especially in these trying times -- what better place to start than Melissa Gorga's 2013 relationship advice book, Love Italian Style: The Secrets of My Hot and Happy Marriage.

If you were in any doubt as to our author's expertise on the particular issue at hand, never fear! You have only to flip the book over to its back cover to be thoroughly rid of any residual skepticism. What is love, if not those nuzzling noses, that slender hand thrown into contrast against a patch of coarse, hoary facial hair? However, I have to admit that my personal definition of love would probably have included a little help from my friendly neighborhood tooth-whitening app. Between an unfortunately positioned shadow and the striking contrast of Melissa's hyper-peroxided chompers, poor Joe looks like he got pulled into this photo shoot midway through eating a particularly unwieldy Tootsie Roll.

In the introduction ("Blueprint for a Better Marriage"), Melissa primes us on her motivations for writing this book.

>Since I entered the world of reality TV, the number one message I get from fans is, "I want your marriage!"

She continues,

>The number two message I get from fans: "How do you do it?"

I think a far more interesting question would be, Why do you do it, but that's neither here nor there. Melissa goes to empower the reader with the knowledge that, no matter the state of their marriage, there's always a way to turn things around.

>If other women want a close-to-perfect marriage, they can have it, too. It's their choice. Even if they don’t think they are, they are in control. Women steer the ship. What they say and how they act towards their partner will directly correlate with his response.

I am breathless with relief, and immediately begin making plans to send a copy of this book to every domestic violence hotline in the nation. How silly of me -- the solution was there the whole time! How disappointing that all of those other women couldn't have just tried a little harder.

With that selfless act of charity over

Bisexual women and transgender people are particular targets of TERF ire because they strike at the heart of the TERF world-view

First up, bisexual women.

Consider this extract from ‘Why bisexuality is a threat to TERF politics’, by Lois Shearing:

The Big Mystery

I think that this is bigger than we first thought. A whole lot bigger than, "Why did you do it, Thomas?"

As a matter of fact, I think it's all built around this statement:

>You have to be careful with assumptions. In my line of work, they can get you killed.

Hey Harry—weren’t you and Michael just talking about the perils of arrogance and making assumptions? Yeah...we’ll come back to that. It almost counts in the category of “famous last words”.

This will be pretty long, winding through the first part of the Peace Talks. Let’s go back to the beginning and start off with the initial intro of the subject. When Thomas announced that Justine is pregnant, this promptly ensues:

>“You sure?” I asked.
>
>“Very,” he said.

Please note that Thomas did not say Completely. That may prove to be key.

Pardon me if I don’t rehash the parts about Thomas and Justine taking precautions—and that male White Court vamps are very infertile. In other words, a very low sperm count, or abnormal sperm production.

All told, the odds against Justine conceiving were very long when both factors are taken into consideration. I can’t help but think that will factor into the plot—one way or another.

I also find it relevant that Thomas already has a plan for his health in mind. The exchange goes:

>“I’ll sit on you and make you take care of yourself if I have to. But it’s probably better for them if you do it.”
>
>He nodded. “Probably. I have a solution in mind,” he said. “I’ll work on it. Good enough?”

Gosh, Thomas. Just what would that “solution” be?

At that point, they’re talking about Thomas taking care of himself—and not being Hungry. Because it’s obvious he’s Hungry right then, since he can’t feed on a pregnant Justine. Thomas has a plan for that.

And then the conversation shifts to entirely another level, taking on another dimension, with:

>“Sometimes,” Thomas said, “I hate what I am. I hate being me.”
>
>“Maybe it’s time to work on that,” I said to him. “Isn’t really the kind of thing you want to teach to a little kid.”

I got the impression that wasn’t the conclusion of the previous conversation, but a different direction altogether. A more fundamental level. Am I wrong? It sounds like Thomas would like to find a way to get rid of his Demon. Too much unsaid.

And then Carlos shows up, and back at the apartment we go through all the mess with Ebenezar. And Harry goes off to...cook dinner. On his way home, disaster s

The myth of the Harshness and Unreasonableness of the Treaty of Versailles Part 2: On the Economic Harshness of German War Reparations

Or, how I learned to stop worrying about finding print sources and love finding the full text of books online through my University library.

Intro:

This is a continuation of my previous post, in which I compared the Treaty of Versailles to other treaties of WW1, and the Treaty of Frankfurt. Several users pointed out the valid critique that my post focused on the territorial changes forced upon Germany at Versailles, and that another major part of why the treaty was considered harsh was the war reparations that Germany was to pay. I did not include much about the scale of the war reparations and their impact on Germany in the post, as I did not feel it particularly relevant to what I was trying to rebut at the time, and I did not have the sources at that moment that I wanted to have to include such a discussion. However, after a fresh night’s sleep, lively talks in the comments section, a search for more sources(My university has a surprising amount of full texts available online) and a more indepth read of sources I have at hand, I feel that I can now give a more in depth look at the economic consequences of Versailles upon Germany.

Also, I hope I didn’t come across as rude to anyone in the previous post! Intent and tone can be difficult to get across on the internet, so I just want to make clear that I was not attempting to be curt with anyone, and I did quite enjoy much of the discussion.

What is the ‘Bad History’ being discussed here?:

The point of this post is to continue to refute the fact that the Treaty of Versailles was unreasonably harsh upon Germany. Therefore, the bad history discussed is the same bad history shown in the first post. However, if the mods deem that not good enough, here is another example of someone believing that the Treaty of Versailles was to harsh on Germany, particularly economically:

Could I have written far less about the economic implications of the treaty and spent time debunking other parts of the linked comment? Absolutely, but I wanted

Internal Contradictions in Das Kapital

Marx's Labour theory of value in Kapital Volume I held that the relative exchange values of commodities over the long run was exclusively based on their respective labour inputs to reproduce those commodities. In other words, his Labour Theory of Value ascribed all value creation as due to labour, and no part of capital. But this does not flow from his own writing. Marx's theory of price in Volume III states that prices are based on both labour and capital inputs. But prices are just a instantaneous representation of relative exchange values. Volume I of Das Kapital is in complete contradiction to Volume III.

You can see this elsewhere in Volume I vs Volume III. In Volume I he says that capital only imparts its exchange value, which is consistent with his labour theory of value in volume I. While Volume III he instead notes that the only thing that matters in production is the machine's use value.

In Capital Vol I, page 144

>Value exists only in articles of utility, in objects: we leave out of consideration its purely symbolical representation by tokens. (Man himself, viewed as the impersonation of labour-power, is a natural object, a thing, although a living conscious thing, and labour is the manifestation of this power residing in him.) If therefore an article loses its utility, it also loses its value. The reason why means of production do not lose their value, at the same time that they lose their use-value, is this: they lose in the labour-process the original form of their use-value, only to assume in the product the form of a new use-value. But, however important it may be to value, that it should have some object of utility to embody itself in, yet it is a matter of complete indifference what particular object serves this purpose; this we saw when treating of the metamorphosis of commodities. Hence it follows that in the labour-process the means of production transfer their value to the product only so far as along with their use-value they lose also their exchange-value. They give up to the product that value alone which they themselves lose as means of production.

Then on page 145

>However useful a given kind of raw material, or a machine, or other means of production may be, **though it may cost £150, or, say, 500 days’ labour, yet it cannot, under any circumstances, add to the val

Homosexuality can't be considered wrong

This is my first ever post on this subreddit, that I recently discovered, and I wouldn't be surprised if my approach to all of this is in violation of some rule that I don't 100% understand, so let me know if it is.

I hear plenty of arguments about why being gay is wrong from some people. Both online and in real life and I came here to address them in a community where I can have an actually reasonable debate with people without slurs and insults being thrown around. Please be respectful and do not go attacking someone or making rude comments about things that you cannot even verify.

I'll just list all the arguments I can think of off the top of my head:

>Being gay is wrong because it is unnatural

There seem to be three different definitions of unnatural depending on who you ask and the context:

  • Goes against religion

A person's religion is personal and may not apply to other people. It is entirely unjustified to punish or be intolerant towards other people simply because they do not have the same beliefs as you.

  • Doesn't exist in nature

This is the more scientific definition but it completely falls apart when you remember that humans are living organisms. We are animals. We are part of nature. We may try to reject it to satisfy our egos, but the fact still stands.

It doesn't even matter if homosexuality can't be observed in other animal species. Just because a trait is unique to a specific species doesn't make it any less natural.

I don't even need to provide a link to proof of homosexuality in other animals to make my point here, but here it is anyway.

  • Isn't man-made

Feelings are normal and aren't man-made. We don't decide how we feel in certain situations, but we might decide to hide it.

>Being gay is wrong because if everyone in the world were gay, the human species would've gone extinct

Can't that, by extension, be used against straight people that choose not to have kids, and impotent and infertile people?

Everyone in the world isn't gay and that will never be true, so I don't really understand why some people think that this applies.

Even if, for some reason, everyone on Earth were gay, reproduction would still be possible, just not with a person's own partner. Sperm/egg donors and surrogates exist.

>Being gay is wrong because because men and women were made for each other

Before I can even be willing to talk about this, proof would need to be provided

Yes. Whistle Blown.

"The rules aren't a request. They're rules. u/ToweringIsle, you can try again. Just keep it down".

--FellowHuman007, explaining to me why a comment of mine had to be removed from his post.

Ha. Cute. You like removing comments so much, why don't you go ahead and remove every comment over there, and return that whole sub to the Alaya consciousness from whence it came.

No, there will be no "trying again" or "keeping it down". That doesn't work for me. My response to you was exactly fine as it was. (I'll reprint it below, in context, in case anyone wants to see what was so unacceptable that it required censoring).

But I'll tell you what we can do, is to finally shine the light of dialogue back onto your sub, in the manner as you have tried to do to ours.

Simple question: What was it you three were hoping to accomplish via this project?

Was it to discourage us from speaking out? Because that hasn't happened. Having a common foil is galvanizing and rewarding. We're even more engaged now than we were before you showed up, thank you.

Even any subtle attempts at influencing and intimidating people via private message serve as valuable teaching moments when they are exposed as the inappropriate acts that they are.

Was it to debunk something, or make some kind of point? Well, the only thing you're looking to debunk is Whistleblowers itself, and we don't feel like we need debunking. Our efforts as a support group stand on their own, thank you very much, and don't require your understanding, or approval. If you don't "get it", that's your problem.

Was it to teach us something about the religion, so as to remind us of the beauty that lies within, or some such? Well, if we were interested in hearing a ten cent Gosho lecture, we would still be in the SGI, talking to people who are into that sort of thing. But we aren't, are we? Not saying you shouldn't go ahead and do that, if that's what drives you, but there's no way any of those lectures could possibly be material to anyone here.

Did you think you were going to somehow shame us, by modelling good behavior? Well that went out the window right quick, didn't it? And therein lies the problem: the behavior you are modelling -- with all the censorship, tone policing, rigidity, and keeping the discussion to only a few sanctioned topics -- is behavior that each of us here already recognizes. Hmmm...where have we seen it before? Oh right -- it's exactly how they conduct

CMV: Consciousness doesn't actually exist.

Well, it does, but in definition only. Consciousness does not exist in the same way that the color red does not exist: it is a construct to help us describe a certain phenomenon. In the case of the color red, it is the phenomenon of a brain interpreting the wavelength that a particular photon has. Consciousness is an emergent phenomenon of a complex, large group of interconnected, interacting neurons. Consciousness does not exist without or outside of a brain.

A thinking agent does not actually "think". It's more of a live simulation of the chemical and electrical signals interacting with internal and external stimuli. You can always say you would have made a different decision, but that is incorrect: you would have always made that decision (hence the titular Determinism). But you may say, "Well, couldn't the inherent randomness and uncertainty due to quantum mechanics allow electrons to interact slightly differently and allow me to make a different decision?"

Doesn't that contradict quantum mechanics?

I'm not saying that you can predict the future. I'm saying that the current state of the universe is the only state that can have ever existed. If you rewound time 1,000 years and followed it forward 1,000 years, the state of the universe would be exactly the same.

This doesn't violate quantum mechanics. If a particle-antiparticle pair were to pop into and out of existence, they would always have done that at the exact time in that exact way. You may say that there isn't evidence for that assertion. But there is. One single data point: it happened. 100% of the time, it happened that exact way at that exact time.

But if people are just the product of chemical / electrical interactions, how can you people accountable for their actions?

We already have examples of non-living things that excise "undesirable" traits. By process of natural selection, you could say that natural selection holds bad genetic mutations accountable by preventing them from proceeding to future generations. The worse the mutation, the more aggressive the excision. Genes doesn't have the "free will" to determine if they're "good" or "bad"; it is just removed from the genetic pool if it is counterproductive for the success and prevalence of that strand of DNA.

Similarly, society can hold bad actors to account for undesirable actions. You can think of, let's say, a murderer as a particular organization of undesirable chemical and electrical interactions that must be excised f

Singapore is a Meritocracy* [EXTRA LONG POST]

Edit: Thank you for all the comments and chat messages! I'm trying to go through each one. Writing thoughtful comments in the midst of having a full-time job is HARD WORK. I think I've missed a few questions, drop me a message if you're interested in continuing a discussion, I'm open to listening! There has been a lot of good comments, a few with great perspectives, and now I have a whole lot of things to read up on.

---

Now that the 2020 General Election is firmly in our rear-view mirror, there is something that I have been meaning to write about: institutionalized racism affecting the minorities, especially the Malays, in Singapore. If you are groaning at this thinking you have been misled by this post’s title, I assure you that by the end of this post you will understand the caveat behind the above-mentioned title. I plead for a little of your time and patience.

We have seen many discussions online about majority privilege and systemic racism impacting the minorities. Many of you may have even participated in some of these discussions. I will not try to explain those terms for they have already been repeatedly debated to death. What this post aims to achieve is to bring to light Singapore’s history and government policies that have either benefited the majority race or kneecapped the minority race. Or both.

Why am I doing this?

It is frustrating to see some Singaporeans fully buying into the narrative that Singapore is a truly meritocratic society; that the government’s policies do not discriminate against minorities, or if a Singaporean worked hard enough he or she will succeed (whatever the definition of success is), or that we have anti-discriminatory laws that protect the minorities. Some even claim that the Malays enjoy special privileges due to Section 152 of the Constitution describing the special position of Malays, and that the Malays are blessed with free education in Singapore.

Section 152, “Special Position”, free education for all Malays?

>Minorities and special position of Malays
>
>152.—(1) It shall be the responsibility of the Government constantly to care for the interests of the racial and religious minorities in Singapore.

Discussion: Is it important to raise awareness of men’s issues?

This post is inspired by some encouraging conversations I had recently with friends who were not aware of the gender disparities in homelessness, criminal sentencing, and basically anything outside of identity issues, ie the “man box”. I am passionate about these more materialist discrepancies, both because of personal connections with men who suffer as well as the immense reach they have, affecting many millions of people drastically.

Anyway, I brought the subject up among my group of progressive friends; two women, and two men, including me. Homelessness in our city is widespread, and I commented on the gendered nature of homelessness, especial those who live unsheltered. I was surprised to hear that none of them have heard the issue approached in a gendered way, and there was a bit of awkwardness initially, as we compared it to the wage gap we have heard much more about in the media and our friend groups.

However by the end of the convo, everyone expressed gratefulness to me for bringing it up, and said that they were just not aware that there were gender gaps in institutions like criminal sentencing which historically and consistently discriminate against men. We discussed the nature of social justice movements and how men’s issues could be brought to light without infringing on feminist discourse, or BLM, or others. Our conclusion was that men’s issues were somewhat sidelined because society can only focus on so many things at once, and there is too much complexity in considering men as privileged in some contexts while also being victims of institutional discrimination.

This is a hard pill for me to swallow. We shouldn’t avoid serious issues because the narrative around men is too simplistic. I also believe that it is not women’s job to advocate for men, so we must have the courage to do so regardless of what judgement we may receive. I think many men are afraid to bring these issues up for fear of being labelled an MRA, fear that the discussion alone will be a net harm to feminism, or having internalized the expectation of male hyperagency to the point where issues which mostly affect men are viewed as inherently less important.

The conversation left me somewhat discouraged that educated, social justice aware people could have no prior knowledge of pretty fundamental

The Mask Mandate was following the letter of the emergency power statue, including the misdemeanor. Anyone saying otherwise is playing politics.

First the law we're discussing is the Emergency Power and Disaster Law. (IC-10-14-3) [PDF warning]

The questions we need to ask is (short answer in parens):

  1. Does an Epidemic meet the definition of disaster? (yes)
  2. How are Emergency powers declared? (Executive Order)
  3. Are there any time restrictions and renewals? (30 days renewable, other limited restrictions)
  4. Does the Law allow for a mask mandate? (without a doubt)
  5. What punishments if any does the law prescribe if the orders are violated? (Class B Misdemeanor)

Each question will be dealt with below including citations of relevant parts of the law.

Does the law meet the definition of disaster?

Without a doubt, absolutely, 100%, yes. There is 0 question about this.

> Sec. 1. (a) As used in this chapter, "disaster" means an occurrence or imminent threat of widespread or severe damage, injury, or loss of life or property resulting from any natural phenomenon or human act.
(b) The term includes any of the following:
(22) Epidemic.

How are Emergency Powers declared?

> Sec. 12. (a) The governor shall declare a disaster emergency by executive order or proclamation if the governor determines that a Indiana Code 2015 disaster has occurred or that the occurrence or the threat of a disaster is imminent. The state of disaster emergency continues until the governor:

> (1) determines that the threat or danger has passed or the disaster has been dealt with to the extent that emergency conditions no longer exist; and
(2) terminates the state of disaster emergency by executive order or proclamation

In short, the Governor issues an EO.

Are there any time restrictions?

> A state of disaster emergency may not continue for longer than thirty (30) days unless the state of disaster emergency is renewed by the governor. The general assembly, by concurrent resolution, may terminate a state of disaster emergency at any time.

Yes. 30 days. But IT IS RENEWABLE. So in practice so long as the governor renews the EO every 30 days, there isn't a time limit unless the General Assembly steps in.

Does the law provide for a mask mandate?

> Sec. 9. (a) The agency shall prepare and maintain a current state emergency operations plan. The plan may provide for the following:
(1) Prevention and minimization of injury and damage caused by disaster.

FILE 5242: SCP-INTEGER CLARIFICATION

File: 5242

Author: Placeholder McD

Greetings everyone! CorpseOfBixby here, and golly, that's a format screw! It's a beaut...

Today, we're declassing SCP-5242, better known as SCP-INTEGER. If the title didn't tick you off already, we're gonna go into some mindfucky territory. With that in mind, this is a declarative declass. We are finding out exactly what happens in the article.

Prepare your [UNPROFESSIONALISM ERASED].

Part One: Green

The header says that we're looking at this article from inside the Department of Miscommunications, and the tags confirm that this SCP will indeed be a language based anomaly. And, we are introduced to a spicy warning!

>WARNING: THE FOLLOWING FILE CONTAINS BUREAUCRATOHAZARDOUS INFORMATION

Bureaucratohazard is a fancy new word that originally appeared in SCP-4703, a technical definition for something that is intuitively anomalous, but is so entrenched in baseline natural law that it is considered nonanomalous. In an example, imagine two apples, side by side. If I hold one of these apples, then I have a total of one apple. Now, imagine if I took both apples, and count them in my head, only to somehow be holding four apples. I put them down, and there are two apples, pick them up, I now have four apples. It doesn't make sense, so I keep redoing the math, recalculating in my head, until I am forced to conclude that one apple plus another apple does indeed become four apples.

This is a bureaucratohazard. Somehow, the physical law in which this universe operates in allows this interaction to occur, even though we so obviously know it shouldn't work the way it does.

>If you are confused by the disclaimer, contact the nearest available Miscommunications personnel and do not discuss this FILE's contents unless you are answering a direct question.

Strangely enough, the FILE has been colored green. I'm getting major déjà vu from this.

Moving on, we get a note from the director of DoMC, which points out the following.

>Read on, knowing that you must accept what the universe says is true, even if it doesn't make sense. One plus one doesn't always equal two.

This will be an important note to remember.

So what is SCP-INTEGER? Why is it written like that?

The first thing of note is that it's using ACS, but it h

George Floyd was murdered by America: a historian's perspective on the history of U.S. police brutality against Black people

From the /r/AskHistorians mod team:

Multiple histories of US police violence against the Black community are being written this week. They’ve taken the form of tweet threads, news articles, blog posts, and conversations among friends, loved ones, and even strangers on the internet. Amidst these waves of information, we as historians want our readers to remember the following:

Police brutality against Black people is woven into the fabric of the history of policing in the US—and reflects the historical reality that white America benefits from police and state violence against the Black community. George Floyd’s murder and the brutal suppression of the ensuing protests are the latest in a long history of police brutality and excessive, extraordinary violence.

As historians like Edward Ayers and Sam Mitrani have established, the construct of American policing was formed between roughly 1840-1880 on the crest of two trends. First, rising population density in cities brought middle-class and wealthy white Americans into close contact with people they considered disruptive to their orderly world: sex workers, impoverished drunk people, Black residents, immigrants. Second, a spiralling urban trend towards wage labor for larger corporations that was itself a disruption in some of the institutions that had previously guarded local order, like families and close-knit neighborhoods.

From their establishment in the mid- to late-19th century, American police forces have depended on their mandate to keep or restore the white, wealthy ideal of order and the active support or tacit acceptance of this ongoing role by the majority of white Americans.

The history of lynching demonstrates this point with sickening clarity and is one we all should know. To highlight just one incident from the thousands that occured: a mob of white people dragged prosperous Black farmer Anthony Crawford from the Abbeville, South Carolina jail in full sight of the jailer and local sheriff on October 21, 1916. Crawford had been beaten and stabbed earlier that day; he was beaten again, possibly to death, hanged, and shot multiple times. His heinous crime? He accused a white man of trying to cheat him financially, and defended himself when a group of white men attacked him in response.

John Hammond Moore has offered that one motivation for the lynching was a rumor the sheriff was going to help Crawford escape and the white murderers believed the police presence was not doing its job of ke

The Mystic and the Physicist: Neville Goddard, Richard Feynman "Creation Is Finished"

You aren’t called upon to make the things. All things already are. The whole, vast creation is already finished; I am only becoming aware of it. Any state that I can imagine can be occupied. The whole thing is finished, and all I do is adjust to it and “feel” myself there until it becomes natural. – Neville Goddard

In 1968, Neville Goddard wrote in his lecture “Faith”

As a result of this in 1941, it was 1949 that I gave a series of lectures in Milwaukee, and the head chemist at Allis-Chalmers came to my meetings. I made some statement using a term that is a scientific term, and the word was “entropy.” Well, I might have used it, not as the scientist would have used it, but I had my own concept of what the word meant and my definition of it, and I said I can change the past. If I can make something, I can unmake it. Whatever I can create, I can uncreate. Whatever I can make, I can unmake. He said: “You can’t do it. For we use entropy in our laboratory every day, and entropy means the past is unalterable; you can’t change it. If the past could be changed, I wouldn’t know what I am doing in the lab…” He said: “All day long I receive little samples of water from all over the world, because we make these huge turbines. And from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa – all over the world – they send samples, because the water passes through certain mineral deposits and carries with it whatever is in that mineral, and, so it cakes. We have to analyze that water and then bring up a solution, because we made the product.” And I said: “I don’t care what you say. I know what I’ve done. And you can undo the past. You can change it.”

“It can’t be done.”

I said: “As far as I am concerned, the whole vast world is finished. Creation is finished, and I am only becoming aware of it. Well, I need not confine myself to what my senses see and what reason allows and what wise men tell me I should accept. I can imagine a state. I can’t see it with my physical eye, but I can imagine a state, and that state imagined is. I can imagine a state that is in conflict with the facts of life. And the facts, you say, are, and they can’t be altered. I can imagine a state that would undo the fact. Well, that state exists. If I occupy that state it will undo the so-called fact you say is fixed forever.” Well, he questioned my sanity, but he was an awfully nice chap. His name wa

My life has changed drastically in a few weeks, and I want the same for everyone here.

Edit: 14 day challenge

Ifirst found out about all of this stuff a little under 2 months ago, in an attempt to heal my relationship with my girlfriend (many of you probably have a similar reason). I would read and listen to Neville Goddard all day long, and keep reading this subreddit in unconscious hope of finding that "magic answer".

After a while I decided I needed to take action/responsibility for my circumstances, and decided I was going to do that by taking SATS 'seriously'. Every night I set out determined to fall asleep doing my imaginal act, but i often found myself obsessing and getting frustrated about this. I did start to get better at it, but it became a cycle of me feeling unfulfilled. And I always felt like I had a ticking time clock in the back of my mind like I had to get my SATS perfect "or else". I'm 16 btw.

I then started speaking to my good friend u/discoveringthetruth, who's help has been invaluable to me. And she helped me realise where I was going wrong. This will probably be a very hard pill to swallow for some of you, especially the SP crowd. And that is the fact that no one or nothing can ever truly fulfil you besides yourself. And in fact, wanting/seeking a relationship when you are not completely fulfilled by yourself will most certainly result in even more pain.

She recommended to me the book "The power of now" by Eckhart Tolle, which (and I say it with my chest) has actually changed my application and use of the law 10x more than any Neville book has. I can't recommend it enough (Neville is great too, I'm just saying what made the biggest difference for me).

Anyways, I stopped trying to heal my relationship completely and instead focused on myself completely. I stopped running away from my negative emotions, stopped trying to counteract the,. stopped trying to do anything about them, stopped thinking, and devoted myself FULLY in the present moment. This obviously requires no only a huge leap of faith, and ALOT of bravery and strength. We naturally run away from our negativity, we think "I must be positive to manifest" and so we start running away from this negativity, although we don't realise were doing that. If this hits home a little, I'm asking you to save yourself months of frustration and potentially even giving up, and be honest with yourself. Ask yourself "Do i have negativity that I've been running away from?". It will change everything for you.

So from that day, I lived fully in the present, I didn't try

PSA: Beware of Indie/Instagram Skincare Brands in INDIA, Many in violation of laws.

Public Service Annoucement:

LICENSE MANDATORY FOR MANUFACTURE OF COSMETICS

While doing some research I came across some information that leads me to believe that many indigenous skincare brands in India, violate the laws. The Drugs and Cosmetics Act,1940 (As amended up to the 31st December, 2016) and The Drugs and Cosmetics Rules,1945 (As amended up to the 31st December, 2016) lay down the laws to manufacture cosmetics in India.

To give you a gist of the procedure of legally manufacturing cosmetics, The Rules, under PART XIV, prescribe that a license to manufacture must be obtained from the Licensing Authority appointed by the State Government in form 31, accompanied by a Licensing fee of Rs. 2500 and an inspection fee of Rs. 1000 for every inspection. A license to manufacture against application in Form 31, shall be granted in Form 32.

The license is only granted if the Inspector is satisfied that all conditions and requirements laid down by the Act, the Rules and schedules specified therein, have been complied with. Some of these conditions have been listed at the end for your understanding of the situation. Manufacturing cosmetics without obtaining the license is prohibited under this law.

Contravention to the law provides for penalties (listed under sections 27 to 30 and confiscation under section 31) including imprisonment (max up to seven years) and/or a fine.

In conclusion:

All Cosmetic brands MUST have a license issued by the State to manufacture cosmetics.

Please be cautious when you buy from/recommend brands that are manufacturing & selling cosmetics illegally or are in contravention of the law.

THE SAFETY, EFFICACY, AND QUALITY OF SUCH COSMETICS MAY NOT BE VERIFIED AS PER THE LAW. SUCH COSMETICS MAY PROVE TO BE DANGEROUS TO USE.

However, please note: A LICENSE DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY MEAN THAT THE PRODUCT IS OF HIGH QUALITY or SAFE TO USE.

The post is to highlight that in the absence of following the licensing requirements and the inspection requirements the safety of the product and the ingredients have not been verified.

So, How to find if a brand has a License to Manufacture?

As per PART XV, of the Rules, which lays down labeling, packing and standards of cosmetics,

  • The packaging must contain the Name of the manufacturer and complete address of the premises of the manufacturer where the cosmetic has been manufactured. Pr

Fellow Comedian/Personality Reactions: An ongoing thread

Hi babies, former and current. I thought it would be a neat idea to create a thread where we list all the reactions by Chris' fellow comedians to monitor what they are saying about all this. I think it's a good resource for us fans. If there are comics or associated people that should be on this list, let me know and I'll add them. If you have any updates on these reactions, let me know and I will add them. GENERAL RULES June 22: Please feel free to post whatever you'd like in the comments but I will not be posting updates that are likes, retweets, and winks and nudges towards the situation on here for the most part (there are exceptions though). I will not be commenting on this post about any allegations regarding Joey Diaz, Bryan Callen or anyone except Chris really. Also, to anyone whining about how this thread is not updated the moment news comes out - take it easy! I work two jobs and I'm doing my best to keep up with this. If you want the latest, check the new comments. I am not the only one working on this. I can't thank everyone enough for their messages and assistance with this in the comments. We will see this through all together and sort out the confusion, disappointment, and betrayal regarding this whole situation. Happy to be helping this community.

This voicemail is played at the 48:00. Theo says he wanted to wait to speak on it until he was recording the podcast. This is horrible for the girls who felt like they couldn’t speak up against this behaviour. He is happy that they found the courage and the voice to speak up. He comments on the video floating around that “makes me look like I knew that something predatory was occurring” and says that he never knew. He has never seen Chris with underaged women, heard about him communicating with them and has never heard of this behaviour going on whatsoever. On podcasts, we just talk and give each other a “good rough time”. It was just a joke because he knows that he has a lot of younger fans and he calls his fans “babies”. I got a child predator fired today

Edit: I can't edit the title anymore but I see your claims about this not being a child predator. English isn't my first language and on my native tongue we use the corresponding term for anyone who sexually exploit children in anyways... be that showing them nsfw pictures or physical contact. Still I'm sorry for misusing the English term I would change it if I could.

Edit2: I also see some questions about how nsfw her content was and maybe it's just my personal judgement. The content in question is dominatrix outfits, pole dancer in leather lingerie and bondage with lingerie content. Not enough to be actual porn but it's definitely not safe for work content.

TL ; DR: She said exposing 12-14-year-olds to adult nudity is "natural" and "educational" so I got her terminated

Quick Background: I'm not a cosplayer myself but I have plenty of friends who are and so I'm in an online community group with cosplay and gaming as its main focuses. I'm not active in it but the group itself is 16K and constantly growing in size what is considered quite big for my country's social media standards. No surprise though that more than half of the members are 13-17 years old boy and girls. There's an ongoing debate in this group for almost a year now that what's considered real cosplay. Bear with me I swear it will add to the story later. Imagine it like there's a group of people who are creating character-based cosplays from movies and series and there's another who buys a wig and lingerie to pull a Belle Delphine and calls it a day. My opinion on this doesn't matter now but the second group is also known for posting provocative lewd and sometimes straight on NSFW photoshoots right into this collective group without any warnings. Sadly the laws in my country aren't advanced enough yet to make this illegal.

I'm from an old European country with great historical universities. Our school system is also quite traditional so it's like everyone wants to go to these big named universities with full-tuition scholarships and the ones that are privately owned have to fight for their students. I happen to study at one of the oldest universities in our capital city. This also will be important later.

So onto the story. One of my friends posted on her private page about this issue and I noticed a girl commenting that every one should let them be "and anyways. It's NATURAL for 12-14-year-olds to watch their parents and other adults naked while bathing or just walking in their home. If

Effort Post: Truth, totalitarianism, and the interests of individuals and the public

Written by u/JustKidding456 (Christ-believing centrist conservative) , alternative title Should the state define and mandate truth to safeguard and advance the interests of individuals and the public?

The writer does not affirm the truth of any claims in this post, and is not liable in any way whatsoever for any negative consequence in any way possible caused by the reading of this post. The writer does not write in any official or professional capacity. This post is provided as is, and does not constitute as authoritative advice. The writer also reserves all rights to change his opinions without any prior notice or explanation.

Merriam-Webster defines an anti-vaxxer as a person who opposes vaccination or laws that mandate vaccination [1]. According to the Pew Research Center, there is a general trend towards state legislation mandating vaccinations and refusing parents the right to reject the vaccination of their children for non-medical reasons [2]. Supporters of mandatory vaccinations would most probably laud such efforts and attack (verbally, at least) “anti-science degenerate parents who kill their children”. From a perspective, mandating vaccinations is defining truth (“vaccinations are good, much needed and should not be rejected”) and mandating truth (“you cannot reject vaccinations for your children without violating the law and facing the consequences”) to safeguard and advance the interests of individuals and the public (“public health and safety from diseases”).

Should the state define and mandate truth to safeguard and advance the interests of individuals and the public? The writer believes that this example would lean the reader towards “Yes, the state should.” (Unless if the reader is an anti-vaxxer.)

Let the writer provide a possible counter-example, then.

19th-century German individual Karl Marx believed that the implementation of Marxism (aka socialism or communism) in a society will safeguard and advance its interests, and that such a belief is the truth [3]. On May 5, 1912 in Saint Petersburg, the newspaper Pravda (Russian for “Truth”) published its first issue [4], and in 1922 the Soviet Union was established [5]. The Soviet Union defined truth (“private enterprise destroys and regresses the interests of individuals and the public”) and mandated truth (“you cannot exercise private enterprise or you are a counter-revolutionary and

Context and History for Elemental Monks

After two campaigns with elemental monks I have decided to give them context in my campaigns since I wasn't able to find much of anything already created. If there is any official content like this I'd love to know about it. I think the bones could be good for other monk disciplines too. Hope this is helpful to anyone DMing for monks out there!

The Ancient and Most Honorable House of Four Hands

Beliefs and Teachings:

  • Devotion to a deity or deities is not required or even encouraged by the Ancient and most Honorable House of Four Hands. Members of the order are permitted to worship gods, but they are encouraged to “see beyond” their gods. As the four elements make up all things, they also make up the gods and even the gods are beholden their nature.
  • What is balance?
    • A question as deep and unanswerable as it is simple.
      • There is no one, even among the order that can agree on a single definition of what balance looks like and there have been many attempts.
      • The famous half-elf monk, Majhala Azira (or whoever fits your campaign) provides the most historically accepted definition of balance as: Peaceful movement. She asserts that because change is the only constant, the ability for an element in the universe to change without altering another is balance. She states that the universe as a whole moves ever closer to balance and it is the duty of intelligent beings to move with it, not against it, for anyone who opposes will be swept away in that tide of inevitability.
      • More easily agreed upon is what balance is not. The order generally moves when it can, to counter situations such as poverty, any -isms (racism, classism, sexism…), excessive concentration of activity in one area (be it physical, geographical, mental or emotional), the power of any one ruler or organization, and even the influences of the churches and thus the gods. There are always exceptions when the order may support any one of these situations in order to balance another. (It's very much a game of subjectivity and potential for corruption is high, which is why the monks are few and highly-trained.)
  • Morality is given less emphasis in this order and it is often held that the ends justify the means, as long as the means are equal to or less disruptive than the natural course of events.
  • Part of a journeyman monk’s quest is to learn to see and influence chaos in the world at large so that they may bring that wisdom of experience back to the temple and per

[Manga Spoilers: Chapter 965] The reason for why he never sleeps [LONG]

The reason for why he never sleeps

I believe I’ve come up with the reason for why Blackbeard, thematically, never sleeps.

For those who don’t remember, this was first mentioned back in Chapter 965 during the Oden flashback, during a conversation between Buggy and Shanks. Buggy mentioned that Blackbeard never sleeps, which Shanks remarks as odd. It was never elaborated upon.

Honestly, the TL;DR at the bottom is that it goes back to Marco’s comment in Marineford. Blackbeard’s body is odd because he can’t sleep. That’s it. He was born that way and there’s nothing more to it. But if you’re interested in reading a deep dive into his character, I do think I now have a concrete theory as to how him never sleeping serves the story.

It goes back to the concept of Darkness and how it fits in One Piece.

Darkness in One Piece

Unless I’m misremembering, the very first time we’re introduced to this idea of darkness in the show is through Robin in Enies Lobby, when she rejects the Strawhats one final time before Luffy makes his declaration of war. Robin here states “No matter how far across the sea I sail, an unshakeable foe continues to pursue me. That foe is simply the world and it’s darkness”.

We all know that in this passage Robin is describing the World Government, but why describe it specifically as a darkness? That’s because the World Government is, at its core, a strict authoritarian regime that controls around roughly 90% of the world, with the New World being the only place where it has no authority. By definition, it actively oppresses those it rules, like the slaves the Celestial Dragons own; suppresses information and knowledge like with scholars of Ohara; outlaws things that it believes are a threat to itself, such as Poneglyphs; and those in power, the Celestial Dragons, serve themselves at the expense of others. Every time the World Government is involved in something, it is typically tragic, gruesome, and ends in death.

This is why it could be said that the world of One Piece at large is stuck underneath a great darkness. Those in charge literally rule above them, casting a shadow above everyone else. The world of One Piece is trapped in an endless night, to the point where we have characters saying that they are literally waiting for the Dawn of the World.

The One Piece world is a dystopian world; it’s a world in darkness.

So it’s only natural that such a world gives birth to a being of darkness.

Darkness in Blackbe

First Contact - TOTAL WAR - 237 (N'Koo)

[first] [prev] [last appearance] [last mention] [last run] [next]

Ast'Lar, the Postal Most High of N'Karoo, was a matron in her own right, with a family, children, even a few grandchildren. Her fur was largely thick and luxurious, although she had been getting white around her neck and down her back recently. But that was what happened when one was responsible for the correspondence of over fifty million of your people who had been taken prisoner, both from them and to them.

Oh, and had used a few loopholes to game the system in order to surrender the entire planet over to a race of predatory, aggressive, omnivorous bipedal upright primates.

While it had been a good idea, Ast'Lar sometimes regretted her over-cleverness.

Especially on days like today.

She stood on the spaceport tarmac next to U'urmo'ot, the Lanaktallan Most High of the entire Unified Civilized Council's presence.

And also the only Lanaktallan on the planet.

Standing next to him, only coming up to his lower shoulders, she reminded herself that U'urmo'ot was not a brave being. He had requested to be stationed at N'Karoo itself in order to enjoy the fishing and leisure activities, arriving only two weeks before the system had been surrendered.

The rest of the Lanaktallan had left U'urmo'ot in place, proclaiming him to be the Most High, and had abandoned the system, leaving U'umo'ot standing on the tarmac with his fishing pole and fishing hat, looking around and wondering how he was in charge of everything.

Still, she was startled that U'urmo'ot had agreed to join her to waiting for the latest arrival.

"You know, you do not have to be here for this. If you wish, you may retreat to your office or even your closet," Ast'Lar told the Lanaktallan.

"I must see this being," U'urmo'ot said quietly. Ast'Lar noticed he was wearing his fishing hat.

Ast'Lar looked up as the ship dropped out of the clouds, noting that it was sparkling and seemed to throw off rainbows.

The Prorigen. An alien race with three distinct genders. Lore and Art.

I'm planning on writing an epic sci-fi space opera novel. I've had some amazing ideas and I've been spending the last few years world building off and on. Here's some info about my most recent alien race. They are one of many.

Image: http://imgur.com/gallery/mQbGEP6

Credit to the original artists: https://www.artstation.com/davidgiraud https://www.artstation.com/davidmassonart

Biology:

The Prorigen have a unique and complex social structure with three highly distinct sexes that each historically played different roles within their society. Similar to some species of nemotodes native to Earth, the Prorigen are a semi-trioecious species, having a male, female, and hermaphroditic individuals. Their specific form of trioecy is slightly more extreme however and has no true terrestrial analogues. The “male” sex, known as Gen, cannot successfully reproduce directly with the “female” Yane. Instead, the Hermaphroditic Genya serves as a sort of genetic “middle man”. Being capable of being fertilized by the male, and then subsequently fertilizing the female. The Genya’s zygotes are not capable of properly fertilizing those of the Yane, without first having been fertilized and genetically combined with those of the Gen. As a result, the Prorigen are genetically triploid, having one set of chromosomes inherited from each of their three genetic parents.

This specific two step reproductive process is extremely rare in the known species of the galaxy, and it is unknown exactly what process their evolution took to reach this point. Most of the species within their taxonomic class are purely hermaphroditic. This is likely an evolutionary response to the unique geography of their homeworld, where less than 10% of the surface is covered in water. This small amount of water, which is typically in the form of small lowland oasis, means that much of life is clustered around very small habitable areas.

While much of the taxonomic class the Prorigen belong to is hermaphroditic in nature, all of the Prorigen’s closest living relatives are dioecious (male/female) species. Therefore, it is hypothesised that during their early evolutionary history, the Prorigen’s ancestors were in the middle of transitioning from a purely single sexed hermaphorditic species to a dioecious species with distinct male and female individuals. And it is believed that it is during this trasitional phase that the ancestors to the Prorigen first experienced the selective pressures that resulted in t

<SPOILERS> Vivi Will Return To The Straw-Hats

Vivi's Hidden Potential...

...

By Aku-No-Hana2. Find it on DeviantArt: A. Pujadas

PROLOGUE

Vivi is counted as an Ex-Official Straw-Hat on her Vivre Card. Although she did technically leave the crew, Luffy and the rest still consider her a Nakama. So after reading about what King Kobra was planning to say at the Reverie, I started to have a bad feeling and it only escalated after chapter 956 titled "Big News!". In this post, I'll be discussing my theory on why I believe Vivi will return to the Straw-Hats as an official member and her role in the story after Wano.

CHAPTER 1: THE NEWS

The Straw-Hats are currently in Wano and have no way of communicating with the outside world. The news about the Reverie hasn't reached their ears yet and the only people who probably know are Marco, Nekomomushi, Izo, Kaidou, Big Mom's crew, and X-Drake. The likely hood of any of these breaking the news to the Straw-Hats during the war on Onigashima is 0 right now. But after Wano concludes, I believe Marco, Izo, and Neko will probably deliver the news to the Straw-Hats.

Now, what could the news possibly be? Let's analyze further. Chapter 956 Starts with a one-week time-skip after the Reverie; with Garp having a chat with King Neptune. He talks about how the Reverie is always about competition between countries over resources than a meeting to discuss the betterment of the world. Though the nations of the world duke it out in the meeting, there is never blood-shed. This time, there was blood-shed. Garp states that after the Reverie ended, an incident happened regarding the Alabasta Kingdom.

Judging from Garp's tone with Neptune, we know it's very serious.

The next page cuts to Big News Morgan saying that 3 big events happened at the Reverie:

  1. There was a death.
  2. The results of the meeting: The Abolition of the Warlord System
  3. The death was an assassination.

The world government was trying to censor 1 or more of these topics, as a member of CP0 Snuck in and tried to make a deal with Morgans to remove the news. When Morgans refused, they retort to silencing him. This tells us that the world government is trying to hide something big, something they can't afford to

First Pass Day 2 out of 4: Adding An Event

Previous thread

Yesterday we voted to add an Event to the timeline so that's what we're gonna do.

The first pass has no Focus.

Big Picture: The discovery of magic and its consequences was a disaster for the human race.

Our Palette

Yes

  • Distinct regional magical cultures.
  • Simulacra/Golem/Artificial/Pseudo-life. No immortality for these either though.

No

  • (Default Rule) Time Travel of any kind

  • (Default Rule) Immortality. A mortal character should not appear in more than one period. The reason is that the time between periods is flexible. If you have a character in more than one period, their lifetime could change dramatically through play making them like an immortal. It could also discourage people from adding periods out of fear of extending a character's life.

  • (Default Rule) Dating things in any way. The timeline is flexible and any mentions of dates and time duration are banned.

  • Using magic without a cost (to perform magic you must pay for it somehow: life, blood sacrifice, whatever). Something must be sacrificed to initiate magic.

  • Real life characters in the timeline, including deceased people. Abraham Lincoln can be referenced as a historical figure of the past but can't be a living character in any of our periods.

  • Secondary worlds, afterlives, or alternate dimensions. Travelling through the stars is allowed, but not a Fae Realm or being able to get to Valhalla. No interaction with the afterlife (This means no ghosts, demons, mediums, psychics, exorcists and so on. Basically, even if magic exists, it cannot pierce the veil between this life and the next.)

  • Intelligent and self-conscious life, except for humans.

  • Breaking the laws of thermodynamics. Conservation of energy and matter, magic can't create anything from nothing, it must take energy from elsewhere to create it's effects. This is apart from the up front cost mentioned before.

  • Spellcasters. "Banning mages (in their common definition) should be interesting, in order to push creativity on different ways to put magical powers in play. (rituals, magical artefacts, supernatural abilities, environmental magic, etc..)"

  • Excessively polymath mages, no single person could ever master all areas of magic.

  • Innate magical talent (magical ability should be purely academic/practise-based with no natural p

SCP-001: Lily's Proposal - The World's Gone Beautiful

Item #: SCP-001

Author: LilyFlower

Greetings everyone! CorpseOfBixby here, and SCP-001 is aesthetically pleasing. Put that shit on a lo-fi cover album, stat! And don't forget the Bust of David!

I think it's best to skip the jazz and get right into it. Well, except for one thing. This declass will be half declarative and half meta analysis. The first part will cover what SCP-001 is, the second part covers what SCP-001 means. That doesn't mean the two are completely separate, they're just general guidelines to what I'm gonna do.

Also, I cannot stress this enough, THERE IS NO TRUE ANSWER. This is an SCP-001 that relies on heavy implications and conjecture not explicitly described within the article itself. So, by extension, any conclusion that I make in this declass is ONE of MANY different INTERPRETATIONS POSSIBLE. This is PARAMOUNT and MUST be BOLDED.

Ahem.

Part One: Twee Pop

As always, the first thing we cover is the object class.

>Object Class: Unnecessary

Let's talk about the purpose of using this particular object class. Firstly, it takes a departure from the fairly standard object classifications by using a completely mundane word. Think about it, Embla, Apollyon, Maksur, Netzach, all are foreign words that are generally used to sound massively important. If someone is using an esoteric object class, they're setting up the reader to expect something extremely groundbreaking or fantastic, something that obviously sets apart the article from the standard storytelling SEK format. While Keter tells us the anomaly is difficult to contain, Apollyon fundamentally changes what we expect from the article. We expect the Apollyon article to have multimedia, be about the Scarlet King, to have at least twenty offsets, and fundamentally and irreversibly change the lore of the SCPverse, among several other things.

But here, "unnecessary" strives to achieve that same purpose, to the opposite extreme. "Unnecessary" is an English word, one that isn't niche or bizarre. I'm fairly certain you and I know what it means, as opposed to Ein Sof which requires an entire footnote and a half to explain. By using a normal English word, the document is now easily accessible to the general population, i.e. the audience. SCP

CMV: The Left needs to embrace democracy and democracy reform as the fundamental and superior thing to advocate for. And the best reform there is is called "Sortition" and "Citizens Assemblies".

We know how to get democracy right. It's called sortition, or Citizens Assemblies. This is how it works:

  1. Randomly choose citizens to construct a legislative body. Service is voluntary but well paid.
  2. Educate the chosen citizens, either issue-by-issue, or through a multi-year education process, or some other way.
  3. Use the newly formed Citizens Assembly to make decisions in replacement or supplement to a representative body.

Why is this method superior?

  1. Random sampling is the ideal way to construct a proportionally representative body without bias. All electoral processes need money and campaigning and marketing in order to succeed. All electoral processes therefore must go through a capitalistic process that filters in favor of those with Capital. In contrast, random sampling takes the premise of "equality" to its logical conclusion.
  2. The Citizens Assembly has a unique advantage against the General Population. The Assembly has the time and resources to deliberate and evaluate the facts. They are paid full time to look at the evidence. In contrast the typical voter needs to work to survive and therefore cannot devote significant time micromanaging politicians.
  3. Citizen Assembly members could be educated. Consider the potential costs. We could send 1000 random Americans of the Assembly to university to obtain degrees in pre-law, political science, economics, etc for about ~$120K per person and therefore ~$120 million total. This is a fraction of what is spent on political campaigning and marketing. We'd be saving money!
  4. Citizens Assemblies could be used for many things. For example they can be used as an Electoral College to elect a higher legislative body or an executive body. They could be used to propose and evaluate legislation.
  5. Random representative sampling is not random or chaotic in outcome. Random samples by definition are stable from one sample to another. In contrast, electoral processes are chaotic in their nature. Electoral processes such as IRV and plurality and all others are dependent on who has the time, resources, and money to run for office at a given point in time. With the flip of a decision to run or not, the ideological mapping of a nation can completely flip!
  6. Sortition is not a new technology. It was invented in ancient Athens as the "correct" way to implement direct democracy. Even the anc

Gamers guide to TILT | What is TILT - How and Why does TILT happen - How to deal with TILT

Gamers guide to TILT | What is TILT - How and Why does TILT happen - How to deal with TILT

For the past 10 years I’ve played professional poker. The last couple of years I got more and more interested in the mental aspect of the game and especially tilt fascinates me. Tilt is a huge topic in poker because there is a lot of money at stake and there is a lot of luck involved. In gaming it’s a less discussed topic, but it starts getting more attention, especially in the pro scene.

Everyone experiences tilt. For some it’s very subtle, some need to control the urge to not smash their keyboard in pieces (sometimes unsuccessfully).

Tilt prevents us from enjoying the game and from playing our best. I hope this post will give more clarity about what tilt is, how tilt happens and how to deal with tilt, so we can all have a more enjoyable gaming experience.

  1. What is tilt
  2. How does tilt happen
  3. How to deal with tilt

1. What is tilt

There are many different definitions of tilt. My definition of tilt is: “any deviation from your best decision caused by emotion”. So this means both negative AND positive emotions. So every time you take a suboptimal decision because of any emotion, that is tilt.

To further understand what tilt is and how it works, we need to study some theory.

1.1. Adult Learning Model

Let’s start with the Adult Learning Model (ALM). This is a theory that defines the four levels of the learning process:

Level 1: Unconscious Incompetence: You don’t even know what you don’t know.

Level 2: Conscious Incompetence: You know that you don’t know how to do something.

Level 3: Conscious Competence: You know that you know how to do something, but you need to actively think about it to do it.

Level 4:Unconscious Competence: You know how to do something and it’s totally automatic and doesn’t require active thinking.

Let’s use a little example to better understand this theory.

Tennis

Imagine you are a small child. You don’t really know what tennis is yet, let alone how to play it. This is level 1, unconscious incompetence. Moving forward a couple of years, you know what tennis is, but you don’t know how to play it. You are aware of the fact that you don’t know how to play it. This is level 2, conscious incompetence. Moving forward a couple of years in time again. You decide you want to give tennis a try, you take some lessons. You learn how to hold your racket,

Hate travel? Find your world is flat? Want to avoid fantasy cliches? Try a Single City campaign.

One of the best solutions to several problems common in RPG campaigns is to set everything in your game in one city. This removes long travel sequences, makes each event in the story be immediately apparent, allows players to build reputations, creates multiple dynamic systems for them to interact with, and allows easy introductions of plot elements. It also makes world building more efficient, since players will probably visit every part of the city over the campaign.

Now, some might think that a single city cannot hold enough content for more than 10 sessions. These people are wrong. A single city can easily hold enough content, adventure hooks, factions, and big events for several campaigns. I will try to break down the most important things to put into your city to create lots of content and adventure hooks.

The first big thing to build for your city is factions. A good city for adventure has lots of competing factions who vie for the party's help, serve as antagonists, and provide services the party needs to use. When designing factions don't be bound by illuminati style organizations or cults, a big city will have loads of different groups. I'll list some here:

Military Forces

  • Guards: The group who provides the law. You can make them corrupt and mismanaged like the LAPD, overwhelmed, or effective.
  • Mercenaries: Cities are often a center of commerce and wealth, so those wealthy people will want their own private forces to protect them. Odds are there are several groups who vie for those contracts to guard storefronts and caravans, as well as rich homes and properties. They can be connected to several other factions (like a temple to a wealth god providing these services, a mafia group providing them, etc.)
  • Soldiers: If the city is part of a kingdom, odds are actual members of that kingdom's military are present and distinct from the city's militia. This can cause conflicts and disagreements, as anyone who lives near a military base will tell you.
  • Mafia: Organized crime can provide great antagonists and even allies for the PCs. But one big service they provide is protection and harassment. Rivalries between mafia families can also provide great adventure hooks, see the conflict between the five families in the Godfather.

Merchant/Trade groups

  • Prominent Guilds: Historically most cities in the late medieval-early modern period had a few big industries like textiles, architecture, art, masonry, etc. based on the surrounding r

How I logically came to the conclusion that we are indeed "God".

First things first, throw all of your ideas about what God is, straight out the window. Secondly, realize that I'm not referring to God in the religious, ruler of all sense.

Now, take your attention to the fact that we are indisputably made out of the very same things that also constitute the universe we live in.

After that, realize that you are in the universe. You are a part of a greater whole. You are literally a part of the universe that has become self-aware. Now, realize there is no real "you" to begin with, you are just a collection of "things" that claims to be a person.

After you realize this, you can in fact see that you are the universe looking into itself. When you look at the stars, the grass, the clouds, you are really looking into your self.

You are the universe, self-aware.

The caveat of this is, you must comply with reality on its own terms. Since you are bound to a physical form, you must abide by the rules. The natural laws.

Lastly, see that religion is a concept. That it is entirely man-made. What isn't man-made, is the very thing we look at when we go outside and gaze upon, the sky and earth below our feet. Which is really inside, because technically all things are inside you, The Universe. When people say they have come to the realization that they are God, what they truly meant, is that they realized they are the universe, experiencing itself. Which can be interpreted as God, whom became self-aware, experiencing himself.

So, with this said, yes you are "God". But so is everyone else.

Edit: I now see how polarizing this subject can be. In no way am I saying man is God in the sense that we are the creators. We are the creator from the created's perspective. Or rather, all of life is.

Edit2: I now know I should be much more precise and clear on my definitions.

Edit3: I have "God" in quotations for a reason, as I do not mean it in the literal/biblical sense of the word.

Edit4: I worship what is, and thats what I see and experience, with that being the universe.

Edit5: I do not mean The God, as in all things in all places at all times. You are God in the form of a human being.

"So a person's real identity is God but though we are all God, we are God asleep. And though we think we are awake we are really as in a dream. The awakening from this sleep or dream is the ultimate attainment described in all the World's religion and the realization of our true selves as God." W

[Farm Sims] What do you do when you lose the publishing rights to your most profitable series? Start your own, with blackjack and dating sim elements! The strange saga of Bokujou Monogatari/Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons (Content warning: Discussions of homophobia, but that's about it)

Once upon a time in Japan (the time in question being around 1996 or so), a game designer named Yasuhiro Wada had an idea for a game. He envisioned a unique, non-violent role-playing game (RPG). Most RPGs of the time focused on venturing around the world, slaying monsters and stopping evil overlords. In Wada's games, the player would stay within a single community and build relationships with its people. He (or probably someone in marketing, I dunno) named this game Bokujou Monogatari ("Ranch Story"), and it released in 1997 for the Super Nintendo (SNES). In this game, you play as a young man who has recently inherited his grandfather's old farm. You must plant crops, tend to animals, and bring the farm back to prosperity, while befriending the locals and potentially wooing one of the town's elligible bachelorettes.

And if that sounds familiar to any of you gaming types out there, it's because this man invented the genre that was made famous by Stardew Valley.

But we'll get to that. For now, know that we'll be referring to this game, and the sequels that followed, largely by their Japanese titles in this writeup. You'll see why.

Part 1: Harvest Moon

The original Bokujou Monogatari (hereafter shortened to Bokumono, its "official" nickname) was originally developed by a company called Pack-in-Video/Pack-in-Soft. They published the game as well for its Japanese release.

It released very late into the SNES's lifespan--the Nintendo 64 had been out for a year already, and the now-legendary Sony Playstation had beat it to the punch by nearly two--and was an unusual, unproven concept. But despite this, the game was picked up for a North American English release. Pack-in-Video did not have offices in North America, so the game was published and translated by the North American branch of the Japanese company Natsume, Inc.

For its English release, Bokumono was retitled Harvest Moon. That name, too, may well be familiar to you--because surprisingly, Bokumono ended up being a modest success. It was quickly followed by sequels: Bokumono GBC, for the Game Boy, and Bokumono 2, for the Nintendo 64. These were titled *Harvest Moon G

Theory: "Kell's Grave" may be the burial site of Craask, the Kell of Kings + Resyk may be an Ally of Variks

Is "Kell's Grave" the burial site of the Kell of Kings?

Disclaimer: This is just a theory. Feel free to disagree, it was interesting to research. I marked the speculation sections at the end.

About 5 months ago, u/crawlerette asked (I'm paraphrasing): was Kell's Grave where the House of Kings was massacred and turned into Scorn, and where Craask was killed? I considered that it might be and I meant to take a deeper look, but I never got around to finishing it until now because of the gaps I couldn't fill.

I decided to do a thorough analysis of this theory but with a new premise: Kell's Grave isn't where Craask was murdered, but it may be where Craask was buried.

Who are the House of Kings? (Short Summary)

For any New Light players who haven't played through Forsaken or D1, here's a very brief overview of the Fallen House of Kings prior to the events of Forsaken, which I'll go over throughout this post:

The Lead-Up to the Fall of the Kings

Prior to the Fallen leaving the Cosmodrome altogether, Uldren was brought to [the Kell of Kings on Earth](https://www.ishtar-col

Keepers of the Realms: The Interplanar Influences of the Great Wheel

The Conscious Planes

At the beginning of time, the sea of all that existed encircled a central point of the cosmos. As ancient gods, titans, and other primordial beings came into existence they sought to bring this sea of existence under their foot and crafted realms and planes. Organized by their presence, the 16 outer planes themselves emerged from the creation of these realms. As strong borders began to be drawn and fortified, only what is now the Material remained unconquered at the center of it all. Wars over who would control the last piece of the unconquered cosmos began, with the mortal races cowering in fear of the destruction raining down from these tremendous battles. But the one present before all others, Ao, took pity upon the mortals and spared them through means that have persisted until this day. Cutting off almost all the influence of the outer planes and their ideals in the Material, Ao restricted their influence through conflux points where leylines from the original sea persisted. Passing the responsibility of maintaining these borders to the mortals themselves, the system of Keepers and Conflux Points has persisted ever since.

This separation of the planes from the Material Plane has been upheld since long before history can recount and even the gods themselves have accepted this as the way things are and always have been, many of them forgetting the ancient wars fought over the Material. As Ao allowed the mortal races of the plane to dictate their own destiny, the now organized slices of the primordial sea which have now been named things such as Arcadia, Ysgard, Gehenna, Limbo, and the gods or beings within still seek to extend their influence into the realm. Through their conflux points, the aspects of their ideology seep through. From Mount Celestia, the ideals of Lawful Goodness spreads through the Material and those that inhabit it, from the Abyss the chaotic evil energy corrupts and takes hold of those easily persuaded by it.

While the influence of the planes and the beings that inhabit them still seeps through, it is limited by the small size of the conflux points. These conflux points wax and wane in power over time as they are guided or lost by the Keepers. An incredibly powerful position, a Keeper is an individual who communicates, works alongside, spreads the mission of the planar entities, and fights those from the opposing planes. The Keeper status is one hidden from most of the world, as they seek to keep themsel

"Hey, don't worry. I'm a good guy."

Hi, first of all I just want to say English is my second language so please forgive me if I make any mistakes (grammatical or spellings) in this story I'm about to tell you all. As a back story, I'm from Malaysia and this story happened in one of the international airports there. I came from the East Malaysia and I was a student at one of the local university in Peninsular Malaysia. You can't travel to Peninsular Malaysia by land because the Peninsular and East Malaysia is separated by the South China Sea so of course the fastest way to get to the Peninsular is by flight and for some reason, I really liked taking the last flight of the night to get to my destination.

I usually travelled alone and I mostly keep to myself as I am an introvert and don't really like talking to strangers. Before that night, I haven't really encountered any problems with weird people as the airport tended to be busy and I always stayed in an area filled with other people minding their own business and in flight, I would just read or listen to some music. I also tended to just ignore the person sitting next to me.

One night, my flight was unfortunately delayed. We were supposed to reach our destination close to midnight but with the delay, we would reached the airport close to 2 AM. I remember being frustrated because I know it will be hard to get an Uber that late. I sighed and then just decided that I would spend the night at the airport and grab an Uber the next morning to my university. No big deal, I thought. People do this all the time, I thought, so I relaxed into my seat.

I forgot to mention that during the flight, I was supposed to seat in the middle but when everyone was seated and I noticed that the aisle seat was empty, I moved there. This was when I noticed the guy sitting on the window seat was acting strange. He kept looking at me and was trying to get my attention but I ignored him with all my might because I was just tired and don't really want to have a conversation with a stranger. I just closed my eyes and pretended to sleep. I remember it was really cold inside and was thinking about just turning off the AC on top of my seat but didn't really want to move because then the guy would know I'm awake and I will be forced to engage in a conversation with him. It was a 2 and a half hours flight after all and I don't want to have a conversation during the flight. Then suddenly I feel a whole lot colder than before and I opened my eyes just a little to figure ou

twitter “hyperliberalism” has gone too far - and i say this as someone who’s “left-wing” myself

it's reached the point where i refuse to identify as "left-wing", despite being the perfect meme for it. i'm a woman, i'm a person of colour. first-gen immigrant. other things too, though i'll save the cringe of mentioning them for you.

as an umbrella “unpopular opinion”, twitter has gone TOO far. there are a number of “unpopular opinions” i‘ve stated below explaining why i’ve reached this verdict. i’m sorry if some of these are just common sense to you. they’re highly unpopular to me, because i mediate it through the lens of my twitter timeline. no one would talk to me if i said many of these things. so i’m grateful for this subreddit, and i’m also glad i can finally openly share these opinions i’ve been cogitating upon for quite a while right now.

it's okay to talk to people who are NOT liberal!

demonising anyone who doesn't identify as left-wing is NOT a solution. it's not intelligent. and it's not going to accomplish anything apart from pushing others away from the very point you are trying to drive home. it's OKAY and NECESSARY to be presented with contrarian political thought. people CAN be good people AND non-leftist. god. this is unnecessary moral outrage. we're all as bad as each other overall.

liberals are NOT morally superior, no matter how much they think they are

again. right-wing folk are not bad people. they want the best for their families, their country and everyone. i don't believe in patriotism in the slightest, but i can still respect and understand that someone who wants the best for their country cannot possibly be immoral as a consequence of this. you protect what's closest to you. people are just intrinsically wired like that, and biology is important. there is a reason a lot of humans, especially biological men, are not over-empathetic. it's not advantageous to be so.

there's just so many flaws with this "morality" argument. it's like liberals esteem themselves on being so morally conscious. however, bring up animal welfare to the majority of liberals (whereby the majority eat meat), and they throw a fit. i don't say this to one up myself because i don't personally consume animal products (i genuinely give zero fucks whether you do or not - i understand perfectly why humans eat animals). i say this to illustrate how morality is SO subjective, but liberals don't seem to understand the genetic and cultural components involved in developing someone's perception of "morality." they think that their definition of morality

Ezekiel’s Failed Prophecy on Tyre and its Ramification on the Bible and Nevi’im

Ten years ago, I wrote a paper which went in depth into the catalyst which caused me to realize there is no god. I had been a Christian for about thirty years, but after reading the Bible front-to-back and encountering numerous issues, one issue really jumped out at me and as a result, I became an atheist. The problem in question is the prophecy that Ezekiel made about Tyre. This is an extremely long post because it actually was a little research paper I wrote for an English 102 class. I have never shared it with the public because I really don't think that anyone will care to read it.

TL;DR: Ezekiel made a prophecy about Tyre which was false. This means he is a false prophet. Ezekiel's manuscripts became a part of the Bible. The Bible is alleged to be the infallible word of God. If there is something false in the word of God, then any other part of the word of God could be false. Thus, none of the word of God can be trusted.

Here is the very long wall of text that you probably don't really want to read:

Ezekiel, an Israelite who lived in the sixth century BCE, claimed to be a prophet of the god of Abraham. His written works were compiled into a manuscript commonly known as Ezekiel, and canonically inserted into the Old Testament of the Bible, and his prophecies and words have been accepted as inspired by God for over two thousand years. One particular prophecy boldly asserted that Tyre, the Phoenician island city which spilled over onto the coast of the mainland, would be utterly destroyed by the king of the neo-Babylonian empire, Nebuchadnezzar, and would never again be rebuilt. The failure of Nebuchadnezzar to accomplish this caused Ezekiel to issue a new prophecy, stating that Nebuchadnezzar would claim Egypt’s riches in lieu of the Tyrian wealth he expected.

In successive centuries, Tyre intermittently endured being conquered, partially destroyed, and rebuilt by various nations, but the final devastating blow stemmed from the onslaught of the Egyptian army of the Sultan Halil after 1291 CE (Fleming 122). However, Tyre is currently a flourishing city, and is located in the country of Lebanon; it remains in precisely the same location as it has for millennia.

Because Ezekiel made a prophecy that was false, he, using the definition offered by the Bible, is a false prophet. While this false prophecy is but a small detail in the large collection of sacred books that comprise the Bible, the implications of it are broad. Assuming that the god of Abr

If there was one thing Lachlan MacGregor was not of two minds about regarding taking up residence on Mara, the return to something of a natural circadian rhythm was it. The days were shorter than he was used to, of course, but there was little artificial light in the village after dark, save for fire, torches, and a few LED’s around Alice’s abode. That seemed about to change given Antoth’s approval of an order of lanterns that arrived for the guard force, but otherwise the Marine found sleep when the sun went down and woke easily when it rose again in the west. He was even getting a bit used to sleeping on straw. Ursol, on the other hand, had not gotten over the novelty of sleeping on Lachlan’s inflatable foam pad.

“Good mornin’ mum,” the Marine said quietly, emerging into the common area of Sentaura’s home where the single mother already had a fire going. She’d explained that, especially in the summer months, it was best to cook before Seil warmed the land too much. “Do you need anythin’?”

“More water, if you please,” she requested, and so Lachlan headed out to the town square with a bucket in hand. He took some time to refresh and water himself as well, refilling his canteen and splashing the river water from the aqueduct on his face before returning. Sentaura gave him a wan smile as he set the bucket in the corner. Ursol was still snoozing. “What did you play with him?”

“Truth be told I ran him around the village a couple times, told him hunters have to be fast as well as strong. I’ll teach him ta do pushups tonight maybe. Ah, I’m sorry about Alice, Sentaura. She’s just an excitable lass. We didn’t mean to bring up bad memories.”

“Lachlan,” Sentaura cut him off gently, stepping around the cooking fire to stand before him. “You humans are always too sensitive, or perhaps it is just you. My mate is dead. She should not feel shame for her

THERE IS NO FREE WILL, ONLY FAITH.

This is one of my first posts on LOA forums (I wrote it in 2013). I wrote it just after I manifested an ex back. I was 20. And many people consider it to be my best post ever.

==>

If You are Looking For a Sign, This is It.

THIS IS A LONG POST! BUT TRUST ME IT IS THE TRUTH THAT WILL SET YOU FREE!

I want to share with you an amazing KEY to your relationships. And especially how to get your ex back.(You can apply this to every area of your life because there are no differences, Faith is all there is. Faith is the substance of all things.)

Intro.

I was "forced" to learn this, I had "no luck" in love relationships even though I have so many fans. I'm a male model, with a high I.Q (intelligence), and a big heart, I dont even harm insects (lol)... So I really have it all. I know it sounds pretentious but it's just the truth. I say my qualities because I want to show that even if you have beauty, intelligence, heart, money you can be left if you think negatively, and that your love life has nothing to do with beauty or all that. Sorry if it irritates you. But some people think they are unlucky in love because of their beauty, money or something. The truth is that The Only Cause is your negative thoughts.
So I asked my self: WHY DO PEOPLE LEAVE YOU FOR NO REASON after one month? Even if there is absolutely no reason, no problem, they just leave me. To clarify I have to tell you that I can seduce everyone I want but after few days I become very negative, I doubt, I fear, I worry, I imagine the worst... and of course the bad results follow. In the beginning I'm very confident, and after few days when I really love them, when I get attached, I lose my confidence and myself.

IS THERE FREE WILL? Ask yourself:

- Did you choose to love him/her?
- Did you choose to be left?
- Did he/she choose to stop loving you?
- Did you choose to be unable to stop loving him/her?
- Did you choose to be treaded like sh*t?
- Did you choose to be ignored?
- And so on...

Ask yourself even more questions in that way. You will find that you did not choose that, you did not choose to be left or to suffer because of him/her. Did you? All you wanted is to love, to be loved. He/She did not choose to stop loving you, it just happened and you will understand why.

When I use the verb "chose" I speak in terms of "Will". It was not his or your will. What you want is not important because it has no power. What you believe you will get is the a

Aaron lay on his back in the med bay of the Porkchop Express. He had no permanent injuries, and after being patched up he had slept a long while. Despite this, he still hadn't gotten out of bed. After being yelled at by Estrilla and Embar, he wasn't feeling too good about himself, and was finding some comfort in the fact that he was alone now.

The station's security were quite displeased with him as well, and despite the testimony of Essad, Jaym, and Shio, his actions had stirred up a lot of resentment. Sholbat and his men had friends, had family, who were now grieving because of him. Even Lek's death had repercussions. His businesses were now closed, the small empire soon to be fought over by relatives and investors.

The one small bit of good news was that Embar, using the ignorance and 'primitive nature' of humans, had managed to convince the authorities to not prosecute Aaron.

Aaron was still staring at the ceiling when the door opened. He heard Alexa's distinct footsteps coming in, and didn't shift his gaze when she stopped and waited in the corner of the room. Moments passed, and Aaron began to feel more and more tense under imagined scrutiny. When he could stand it no longer, he looked over to her. "You here to tell me how stupid I am?”

She sighed. “I think you know that. I’m here to ask, why?”

“Why?” He lay back and stared up again. “They took Shio, and they tried to kill me. I had to-”

“No.” She stopped him. “You didn’t have to - anything. Why didn’t you contact us for help? Why didn’t you get security? Why did you act alone?”

“There was no time, I had-”

“No.” She had approached the bed and was looking down at him now. “You wanted the fight. Why?”

“They took the-”

Alexa cut him off. "No. You're angry, and wanted to take it out on someone. This was an opportunity. An excuse.”

“Why shouldn’t I be angry?” His voice raised a little. “I was taken from my home. Frozen and forgotten. Everyone I knew and loved is dead. I don’t even know where my planet is, or what state it’s in - is it even possible to still it call home.”

14 day self awareness challenge: change your self concept, your mind, and your life

I'm making this challenge as many people asked for it, after I made this post. If you haven't read it, please do so right now before you read any further. Its important that you understand where I'm coming from.

...Have you read that post? If yes, great! Keep reading. If not, read it now.

One more thing, make sure to visit u/discoveringthetruth page. She has some fantastic posts, and without her guidance I would most definitely not be where I am right now.

I don't claim to be an expert or guru etc. I am simply sharing what has so drastically changed my life in such a short period of time in the hope it does the same for those willing to accept full responsibility and apply it.

Why should I do this challenge?

- The most important thing is your self concept. Your self concept covers everything. Manifesting a solid self concept and a clean mental diet (awareness), is the absolute foundation for your ascension and also for manifesting things you want like its nothing. To be honest, as your self concept raises higher, you will find that you want less and less things. Don't let yourself think for a second that by focusing on yourself, that you're not gonna get your current desire! Quite the opposite.

- The absolute truth, is that nothing and no one besides yourself can ever truly fulfil you. If you're trying to manifest an SP right now, you might tell yourself "If only I had my SP right now then i would be competently fulfilled and never want anything else!". Alas, anyone with a sliver of awareness and experience will know that this is absolutely not true. It's an illusion. The truth is that when you get this desire, without first having a solid foundation of self respect, self love, and confidence, you will still feel empty and unfulfilled, and this will likely cause a cycle which gets harder to escape as time goes by. And thatch not just with SPs. If you merely use the law as a means of realising your desire without first and foremost having the solid foundation of a strong awareness, having overcome your repressed emotions, and loving and respecting yourself, you will endlessly be waiting for the next desire for your "true happiness". The only salvation is the present moment.

- To some of you this may seem foreign and unbelievable, you might even refuse to believe it. But just imagine being the master of your mind, it doing everything you w

I've Seen What Lies Beyond Reality

Before I begin this story, there are some things you must first understand. My name is Allen Bailey, and for the past thirteen years I have been raised by my uncle, Dr. Richard Blackwater. These circumstances came to fruition when my mother and father both died when a drunk driver decided to rearrange their 1998 Ford Explorer on new year's eve in 2007. During the following thirteen years I was placed in the custody of my mother's brother who was my only living relative at the time. My uncle Richard had a doctorate in theoretical physics and a master's degree in theology. And while I've never been much of a believer in some cosmic entity with a big white beard in the sky watching over all of us, my uncle had always been a strong one. Well I say a believer, perhaps I should have reframed that and say he was a spiritual explorer. His life obsession had always been the search for one thing, to actually find God. And that is why I'm writing this now, because of what he did find, and I'm sorry, I truly am for what I am about to tell you. Because I've sat on his discovery for the past 4 years and can no longer hide the truth. I wish I could make it easy, I wish I could hold back, but I can't. Because you, all of you, deserve to know the truth.

It all began last spring when classes resumed at Ohio University where he was a professor. What struck me as rather odd about the beginning of the semester was when he asked me to act as his personal assistant. While skeptical at first, I couldn't really turn down an offer that was monetarily five times larger than my current salary as an assistant manager at a 7-Eleven. I had never been someone of outspoken interest in his work which seemed rather odd at first when the offer approached me. When questioned, my uncle simply said that he thought I would do a good job at the tasks at hand, and that he would like to spend more time with me.

Now while his semester long work times were much longer than his off seasons, we never really connected as close as some would expect. We had a good relationship but nothing super close. Uncle Blackwater or Uncle B as I came to call him was always… different. After having a 10 minute conversation with him it would become very apparent to you that he was most definitely on the spectrum of Autism. I mean, that's nothing to be ashamed of, but very crucial in understanding his behaviors.

On the first day of my new job as his assistant I arrived in his office at 11:00am, about 30 minutes be

Want to leave your character up to fate?

I recently rolled on a bunch of charts to discover what my character was like (his interests, fears, etc) and thought I would compile the charts so anyone else wanting to randomize their character doesn't have to go as many places as I did to find them. Feel free to re-roll if it doesn't make sense.

This list includes:

  • Hair Color (created by me)

  • Eye Color (created by me)

  • Eyesight (created by me)

  • Favorite Color (list found here https://7esl.com/colour-vocabulary/)

  • Favorite Animal (created by me)

  • Hobbies (OP's link: https://www.reddit.com/r/d100/comments/gmyqqg/d100_niche_hobbies/,

Today's CK3 Q&A with the devs, July 1st

Q: Will there be new nicknames added to the game?

A: Yes

Q: will changing feudal contracts have any affect on stress? for example will content characters not want it to change too much?

A: Some traits do give stress if changing the contract, just will give you stress if you change it in an unfair contract for example

Q: how did the "shoe loving" event come to be?

A: I worry about our Game Designer sometimes too.

Q: what was the most challenging event/event chain to work on?

A: The bastardy system has caused our content designers many many headaches

Q: Will events such as the Bearly Legal event be returning?

A: Well if any were we'd definitely not be telling you

Q: doe the clan and tribal gov have contracts?

A: No.

Q: in Dev diary #33 there was a law concerning "coinage rights" which I assume has to do with whether or not you're allowed to mint your own coins. The reason why I bring this up is that I wonder if you can clarify what that law actually implies and how it will affect gameplay as it wasn't talked about in the diary?

A: It increases the development growth of the vassal at the cost of development growth for the liege to represent the vassals own ability to mint their coins

Q: How often is the AI likely to do something against character?

A: For most purposes the AI treats the player the same as any other character. So if it makes sense for them to do something with or to the player, they're likely to do it. There's tweaks here and there to ensure it doesn't get overwhelming.

Q: Will stress affect NPCs?

A: Yes, the AI is affected by stress too. The AI will usually try to avoid gaining stress, but can definitely get mental breaks from things like family members dying.

Q: Can we still rename provinces?

A: All titles can be renamed.

Q: Concerning the Feudal Contracts, how tribal relationship will work? Something similar, something different, or you will answer it in the future?

A: Tribes do not use individual obligations, it is constant base heavily scaled by the prestige level instead of negotiated obligations

Q: In the Event Scripting Dev Diary, it seemed that the scripting language is very similar to Imperator's Jomini. Does it mean that CK3 will have similar modding capabilities, including Scripted GUI?

A: Yep! Scripted guis are fully functional in CK3

Q: will we be able to disable fantasy stuff?

A: On release there's no fantasy content.

**Q: Will there be any downs

The Visitation

Here's a short story I wrote recently about an alien visitor to Earth. It started when was thinking one day about what an alien language might be like and what aspects of their culture an alien visitor would be interested in sharing, and then I fleshed it out from there. I first shared this to the "Aliens" sub where one of this sub's members came across it and suggested that it would be a good fit here, so here it is. Hope you enjoy it.

For what was supposed to be the most monumental event in the history of human civilization it was actually pretty anticlimactic. No giant mothership; no shadowy figure emerging from the mist; no tense standoff with guns drawn... Hell, we never even saw him coming.

The morning of 12/12 was really just like any other, other than the fact that there he was, standing outside the White House, just waiting for us to show up. We found out later he'd actually arrived before sunrise and had been waiting out there for exactly two hours and twenty-nine minutes before anyone saw him. Not that he was trying to hide; he was just too polite to even try knocking.

If it had been some kind of crazy giant alien ship, I'm sure he wouldn't have had to wait so long. But right there next to the bushes just a few yards outside the front door to the White House was the most basic landing pod you could possibly imagine. At least we all assumed it was just a landing pod; we didn't find out until later that it was his actual ship, which he'd actually used to travel the entire 32+ light years from his home planet even though it was nothing more than a tube, barely big enough for him to fit in, with no apparent means of propulsion or external features whatsoever. And even later, when he showed us the interior, it was just completely empty; no apparent life support systems, no avionics, no control systems, no instrumentation, nothing.

And I wish I could say it was due to its hyper-advanced stealth technology or some kind of undetectable cloaking device that it was out there for so long before anyone saw it. But even if it did have something like that (and we still don't know if it did), that really wasn't why; as crazy as this sounds, it was just too small, and came in too fast, for any of our systems to even detect it on its way in. And by sheer coincidence, it just so happened to land in a "dead spot" where the security cameras could barel

Explore the infinite layers of the Abyss, the home plane of demons - Lore & History

You can read this post and see the pictures of the Abyss across the editions on Dump Stat

What is the Abyss

The Infinite Layers of the Abyss, sometimes known as Demonholde, is the home plane of demons and is known for being infinite in size and depth. Found between the windswept plane of Pandemonium and the prison plane of Carceri, this plane is considered to be mildly evil and mildly chaotic, though that doesn’t mean it’s safe by any stretch of the imagination. The demons and other evil creatures who roam these layers see the only way to gain more power is to enforce their will over others, be it by enslaving them to the demon armies in the Blood War or to use violence to impose their will.

The plane itself shares many of the same traits as demons, though it acts in a far more devious manner. Littering the top layer of the plane are conduits that lead to almost every layer in the Abyss, though few are marked and even fewer are reliable. Some layers might only have one-way portals and be impossible to escape until someone, typically a powerful Abyssal lord, releases you or the conduit might take you to a world that appears to be the Material Plane except that the plants feed off of blood instead of sunlight. Due to the assumed infinite number of layers on this plane, it can be difficult to know exactly where you are when you take a conduit, though several layers have been ‘civilized’ by the demons and actively encourage, and protect, traders to their cities.

History

First detailed in the Manual of the Planes (1987), not much has changed for the Abyss. It is first described as having only 666 layers, though it does clarify that that is only an estimate, this number jumps up to 679 in 2nd edition in the Planes of Chaos (1994) with only 141 of the layers actually habitable by mortal beings. The book later goes on to clarify that the number might be infinite, but nobody knows and the Planescape Campaign Setting (1994) even goes so far to say that nobody will ever do so in a rather illuminating way.

> Plain and simple, no one's ever done so because each layer is so horribly grotesque that a berk would have to be barmy to want to see any of them.

3rd edition only clarifies that the Abyss has an infinite number of layers, but that each known layer has clear boundaries, which is some small comfort. The Abyss is only infinitely deep but it isn’t infinitely wide,

My father passed away from COVID-19 in March, here’s his interesting life story.

My father was born in Ecuador in 1962 he was the first kid of his parents, within the next 5 years he would end up having 3 brothers and a sister (this is extremely relevant throughout the 2nd half of his life).

He came to the United States at 13, he lived with his Uncle and cousins in Brooklyn, he slept on the floor, he had to pick up groceries and do work every day all the time for his Uncle and family, he lived and went to high school in Long Island in the midst of his teenage years, this short period of his life I don’t know much about.

On a Saturday March 1983 my dad did not want to go to work, his mom forced him too, he worked in a factory of some sort on a lift truck, he would end up having a serious accident on his right foot on this day, details get a bit confusing here but i believe it was 2 years later his right foot would have to amputated (I don’t know if it was right after the accident or a few years after I’m sorry but these minor scarcity’s wont confuse you).

He was in the hospital for 6 months, for the first few months he was doped up on morphine he was extremely addicted, during his stay he was tied up to the bed, but slowly his addiction went away (he’s never touched a drug before, and never again in his life).

Anyways when he got out the hospital he was in a suit with the lift ruck company, I believe he was paid $200k in 1989 not sure exactly, he received compensation too... anyways it’s worth mentioning throughout his years until the accident he was a normal guy a bit sensitive and stuff like that, he also had the option to get his leg replaced with a mechanical leg or something but he refused, he’s been able to walk perfectly fine nearly with a slight limp, doctors had guaranteed him he would never walk again he proved them wrong.

Anyways continuing, the accident changed him entirely he became a MAN, he started drinking (not like an addiction but occasionally) and he was extremely outgoing and disrespectful towards women kinda, but it made him a chick magnet, with every women it was bang bang thank you mam for him (incase you don’t get it, it means he just hit it then left) according to him 100’s, he would go out after work every night, this was his social life after the accident.

His personal life was complete shit, with the $200k he bought two houses in Jackson Heights (Neighborhood in queens NY) his brothers lived there and his mom, rent-free, while he slept in the garage, he fully expected to get help wi

Dad and Mom finally divorced. Dad quits job after being told to wear a reflective vest, acquires pending sexual harassment charge from dentist, moving to my town (12 hours away) with only his truck bed to carry belongings.

For context, if interested, here was the event that finally pushed my Mom to realize divorce was a good thing.

https://www.reddit.com/r/JUSTNOFAMILY/comments/hlx3ct/tldr_dad_says_me_and_my_sister_are_immature/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

I don’t even know where to start exactly. Basically my sister (29), myself (28) and my mom (63) have a very tight relationship. Mom and Dad (63) have been together for 35 years. Sister jokes Mom is a ‘martyr’, which I can’t laugh at because it’s true.

Short history: Early Dad was jovial, life of the party, emotionally distant drunk mixed with episodes of depression guy. Middle Dad was funny, strange, heavily drunk, ‘you don’t love me’, conspiracy theory, racist guy. Last 7-8 years he has became sexually inappropriate, ‘I want to kill myself’, verbally abusive, gaslighting, drinks a 26 a night (I didn’t believe that myself until I went back home), constantly belittling, falls down at family gathering and after people help him stand he yells ‘you’re all a bunch of cunts!’ and sexually harasses my Mom.

Dad has been living in the basement at my parents for years, never cleans it, rarely showers. He goes to work. Comes home. He fills his drink downstairs, comes up to kitchen and usually cries for some reason once every dinner (reflecting on nostalgia). Or turns into rage like anger after Mom or sister disagree with his hateful/ belittling comments. Becomes incoherently wasted. He then sits on Facebook or listens to conspiracy theories and American politics. (Not saying there is anything wrong with those last three things) but that’s pretty much his life.

Since I was 16 I’ve been asking my Mom why she stays with him. She says because of the house. Mom is textbook empath and Dad is what can I assume is a narcissist (after playing google psychologist my whole life) mixed with something way weirder as of late.

A couple weeks ago my Mom brought up the divorce, at first, Dad gave her flowers and talked about how wonderful she was and how he was sorry for drinking and acting the way he does. A week later he goes back to groping her, constantly talking at her about sex/porn while being wasted on ridiculous amount of vodka. She has a bad knee and he grabs her and tries to bear hug her while she tells him to stop. She tied her doors to the bedroom shut and he busted through drunk. So she tried putting chairs under the handles and he busted through and broke the doors. He blames Mom and says ‘I’m

Obligatory "Long time lurker, first time poster, written on mobile", etcetera.

I live in and work at a small, locally owned transient stay motel, with daily, weekly and monthly rates. I really can't give any information on the location beyond that we're near water, forests and lots of outdoor amenities and we're the closest place in 30+mile either way up the road.

We typically rent to local workers on oil projects and in factories due to past mismanagement not really capitalizing on all the cool stuff we have around. We're working on that, but it's kind of like building the place from the ground up because it had been handled so poorly by previous management. This unfortunately means that some clients know what we used to be like (trashy, very trashy) and recommend it to their friends as a place where you won't be bothered too much if you have active warrants or bad habits; and we have basically no protocol my spouse (DH) and I (Me) haven't written ourself. We didn't even require Driver's Licenses until DH and I took it over. Just a name and some money, and you get a key. Not anymore.

But, I digress.

Single story place, 15 rooms (including utility room to the left and right) with an "office" in the middle that's really an entry hallway to my living room where the interior door is always double locked, so guests stand in a little cubby between the outside door and my front door and deal with us through a guest service window with plexiglass and iron security bars that is set into the wall. We have thick, double pane windows all around the office so we can see every room door if we open the blinds but guests can't see in past the office area to where we live. We have dogs in the private area for safety (guests are never exposed to allergens as the dogs are never in the guest entry point), and are legally compliant with all local laws regarding the carrying of firearms for security reasons. It's on the door when you walk in, on big stickers, that there are security cameras in use, guard dogs on property, and we are open and concealed carry compliant. This is relevant to what happens next, but it's not the situation you're likely thinking it will be.

Buckle up; snacks are in the cabinet, water cooler is on your left.

Every room is occupied right now except one that is down for a toilet repair. We're insanely busy. I've gotten 10 hours of sleep in two days. Our main guard dog, who I will call Doorbell (DB), knows his job. Nobody sneezes without DB

Bespoke Barenia: Searching for Budget Authentic Alternatives to Hermès Part 1

Ladies, I've got to be honest with you this whole pandemic has gotten me in a mood and questioning my lifestyle, a big part of that being the money I spend on bags.

Some background, SAs have always been fairly rude to me so I've never felt welcome in a designer store and tend to purchase my authentics online via fashionphile/therealreal/etc. Reps were a godsend to me, finally no one gatekeeping or judging me to decide if I was worthy of a bag. But then, over the past year I've had some less than stellar experiences with sellers where I've felt I've been lied to or mislead about the quality of high tier Hermès reps. I spend $1000+ on a bag, and it's still not what I asked for? Ugh, at that point I took a break from the rep game. I needed an alternative, and I decide to start looking for high quality designer bags, with price points that don't reflect only the name. So that meant diving into the deep realms of the internet and searching for obscure designers that focus on quality.

Cue the pandemic and now logomania is dead. The price increases that some of these brands put out while the quality continued to drop was stomach churning honestly, and made me embarrassed to be carrying them.

So what do I do now? Luckily I had been asking myself that question for quite a while. I decided what I want in a bag is:

  • Quality Materials: most, most, most important to me. I want this bag to last and be well made.
  • Simple: no logos/not flashy
  • Functional Design
  • Trustworthy/respectable designer: I want them to stand behind the quality of their bags.

Now just to find that!

One thing I'm mildly obsessed with is barenia leather (also known as novanappa). It's a natural calfskin from Hermès that patinas (darkens) with age and is made to take a bit of a beating. I was googling around one day and found you can just buy barenia leather online. Well if I can buy it, so can others, so maybe there are other options than Hermès for barenia bags...

So I started trying to find a designer that made barenia bags, that wasn't Hermès, and whose bags aren't $8,000. Honestly it's hard to find, most designers want at minimum $2000 for such a bag. After months of intensive google searching I found one. A small, one man operation out of France making bags out of solely Novonappa leather from the HAAS tannery called Monsieur J. And he has all the colors of barenia, to which I said 'what the frack? I thought black was so rare, hard to get even to make reps.' I don't know, ques

Why Civic Nationalism Will Not Save Us

There is a serious problem with having a civic nationalism that couples itself with the idea that humans are interchangeable abstractions. Human beings are not abstractions, we are biological animals. Most human beings don’t even understand complex abstractions, let alone live by them. Humans are tribal animals that live first and foremost by the demands of identity and power.

By definition half of humanity has below average intelligence. Ask them basic questions of politics, economics, philosophy and so on and they will reply with befuddlement. What they “know” is not knowledge at all, for most of them are incapable of dealing with abstractions in any sophisticated way. Rather, the average human is a bundle of emotions associated with their identity and their attachment to a group of people who share their identity, and this group can be considered their tribe. Rather than attempt to change this fundamental truth of humans it behooves us to reconcile ourselves to it.

Race is a biological reality resulting from hundreds of thousands of years of geographic separation. Races are human subspecies, able to reproduce outside their subspecies but also possessing unique characteristics that define racial types, with some of these characteristics having profound impact on the types of civilizations races can create. This is not going to change any time soon.

Any political or economic system that fails to regard humans as they actually are, but only employs abstractions intended to inform humans as to how they are “supposed to be,” which is to say what ideas they must share concerning government and economics, is destined to fail.

I consider myself a classical liberal. I believe in individual liberty with a minimal government. The government is tasked with securing borders, defending against foreign enemies and protecting against violations of person and property. However, I understand that these ideas assume a high degree of racial homogeneity, otherwise the society fractures into tribal groups based on race. These groups are perpetually at war with each other and will collapse the system.

For classical liberalism to have long term viability the borders must be controlled and citizenship must be based on ethnic kinship. This is how it was in formation of the United States of America. The Naturalization Law of 1790 and its successor, the Naturalization Law of 1802, required citizens to be “free white persons of good character.”

As the U.S.A. becomes less whit

How I Received the Highest Grade in Every Class During 1L (Fall; Spring was P/F) at a T20

I’ve been meaning to write this for a while. I figured I’d pass along what I know, as I once scoured the web for guidance. It’s not exhaustive, and I’ve withheld details to protect my identity. Furthermore, do not mistake statements for what I did (descriptive) as advice (prescriptive). I am explicit when giving advice. If you have follow-up questions, feel free to ask them, though I can’t promise I’ll answer.

This may not be all that helpful. First, if you’re online-only this semester, much of the preparation will be different. My Spring semester was P/F, so I can’t offer much help. Second, the usual caveat applies: everyone learns differently, and what worked for me may not work for you. Perhaps you can distill some principles from the aggregate of advice you receive and apply them to your situation, however.

I also cannot help much with admissions (except for what not to do). I only got in to two schools (lots of waitlists and a few rejections). But I love where I’m at and wouldn’t transfer for anything.

Some stats first:

UGPA: ~3.5

LSAT: High 170’s, but my cold take was a 160 (I raised it through 12 weeks of self-study). I’ve also always been an excellent test-taker.

Reading:

I did every reading assignment. I started off rereading but after a month or two settled into doing one thorough read. I am not a very fast reader, and I probably spent, even after the first month, 3-4 hours a day reading for class. I did not like to get more than one class ahead because I did not like to spend time refreshing my memory. I (briefly) briefed the morning before class, rather than when I did the reading (too much time). Briefing does nothing for your end grade, but it’s not much additional work, and I liked to be somewhat competent answering questions in class (though I did have some painful botches—I’m a much better reader and writer than listener and speaker, and I’m very quiet in class settings—I don’t think I volunteered once in the Fall). The most helpful thing for answering cold calls, though, was everyone being very supportive of each other and realizing that no one really cared. I calmed down and fared much better in the Spring.

Notes:

I wrote all notes by hand. By doing so, I remembered more and was more locked in (computers make distractions easily accessible) during class. On the other hand, doing so made attempting to outline quite the nuisance, but I don’t think outlining is necessary, as I write below. Also, you do not want t

Most Religiously affiliated people automatically jump to defending their religion by defending the abstract concept of the existence of A god despite it being mostly irrelevant to the defense of the validity of their own religion, why is that?

Allow me to elaborate. I don't understand why most religious people (mostly christians) defend their own religion by defending the possibility of the existence of A god ; not Their god but A god. so lets assume that there is a god, who is to say that it is the god of the christian faith that exists. the concept of all powerful beings is a completely man made concept that has been adopted by most cultures on earth, e.g. you are not special nor are you an exception. with no direct evidence supporting it to explain natural phenomena before the existence of modern science. If we were able to prove that just A god exists that would not directly prove that the god of your specific faith exists. If this were to happen basically every single religiously affiliated person in the world (not just christians) has as much right as you do to say that their form of theism is the correct one. the only way to prove that YOUR god is the true one is to analyze all "Canonical" religious texts associated with said religion and compile all of their logical implications and determine whether they line up with what we know about the natural world putting aside all the morally and politically reprehensible rubbish aside. for example ; we know that the universe is not 6k years old rather it is 14.5 BILLION years old, we know the sun was born BEFORE the earth, we know that the earth is not a flat plain (MOST people know), and we know that the all life on earth can not be sustained by one incestial bloodline, therefore we can deduce through "logic and reasoning" that if there is a god it is definitely not the one of the christian faith. And for the christians out there who believe that god is the embodiment of the laws of physics, or the universe, or something like thatI'm afraid to say but last time I checked gravity does not resurrect jews and tell people to sacrifice their children to it (unless you are Florida man).

I'm a Sherriff's Deputy in Bull's Heart Texas.

I work in a place called Bull's Heart, Texas. I'm a Sheriff's Deputy. Sort of. Technically I'm a Federal Agent. No. I haven't been to Portland recently. Never the less. I'm supposed to protect and serve the people of Bull's Heart. Keep a lid on things, keep the calm. But quite honestly?

Jesus fuck I hate this town.

I mean sure, the people are nice in their own odd way. They recognize that I have a rough job, mostly due to the nature of the citizenry itself. They know that. They respect that. It doesn't stop them from getting rowdy, it doesn't stop them going after each other and creating situations that I got to put my damn fool self in the middle of. Doesn't stop the collection of scars on my body from getting bigger. Doesn't stop the nightmares either. But they seem to appreciate the fact that this job is an ass kicker. Which is nice. I suppose.

If I was the milkman or ran a gas station or some shit, I might not hate the town as much. But than again if I hadn't signed a Forty Year contract, with threat of life in a Federal Pen, if I broke said contract, I probably would have hung it up and pushed on down the road a piece.

People in this town know they can't control their nature. Some got a handle on it better than others. But most know that they are one stressful day away from a good blow up. That's where me and the Sheriff's department come in. Sometimes it's a simple matter of sitting a body down and letting them vent out their frustrations. Sometimes it's so bad that we have to call the Big Fed's in.

I hate doing that. Those boys and girls come in wide eye terrified and heavily armed. Fear is a motherfucker; and when it has a Beowolf .50 cal loaded with consecrated depleted uranium tipped rounds, it can be a real bloody sumabitch.

But fact of the matter is that the Citizen's of Bull's Heart are better off in this town than they would be out in the world. At least so far as normal folks like you and me is concerned. Just because folks is different doesn't mean they are evil. But sometimes evil is a relative concept.

The people have a lot of respect for me, a normal guy (Albeit with some technological assistance) throwing down with the nastiness of their nature when they get less than civil. Hell they respect the other guys that do this job too. But I'm one of the few normal types who do it. So they give us just a pinch of extra respect. But it doesn't stop us from getting our asses handed to us and occasionally getting gored to

A Deep Dive into the Impacts of Fashion on the Environment and Human Health.

I initially started writing this as a small post but it just kind of blew up as I dug through the state of fashion and its environmental and social impacts. I know this topic is brought up fairly regularly in this community, but I think as we move forward as a community it is important to have this information ready and available for new converts to MFA. Like the basic bastard wardrobe or the recurring rundowns on specific pieces (this recent one on chore coats is one of my personal favorites it gives fashion novices a roadmap to understand the space and dip their toe into this wonderful world of fits and fashion. I would love to do something similar for sustainable fashion and the crazy, convoluted world of certifications, greenwashing, and actually reducing your footprint in environmental and human misery. I’ve broken impacts down into 3 categories: Environmental Impacts, Social Impacts, and Certifications.

Environmental Impacts: Ok, so I think the majority of the posts I’ve come across on this topic have to do with the environmental impacts of fast fashion and the fashion world at large. With companies like Patagonia mounting large campaigns around the environment, ‘green’ fashion has become a popular point with both consumers and producers. While some producers are making some good initial steps in the right direction, others are merely using the hype to sell more product. The world resources institute did a great article on the impacts of fast fashion with some fantastic infographics on how it’s changed our consumption habits and how those affect the environment. In this section I’ll be diving into six categories: farming (land conversion/pollution/runoff), material extraction, pollution, shipping impacts, ‘unwilding’ (like deforestation and wetlands loss), and total carbon footprint. Before I jump into these topics, I want to define some terms as there can be a lot of jargon in this area that can be used to purposely confuse or trick consumers into thinking a product is ‘good’ for earth. I want to throw a caveat that while I am hard on recycling and organics, they are still the processes we should be moving toward and are decent steps in the right direction. It is not a reason to ignore those options, but just to think critically about how beneficial they are and

The First Week of No Contact

For those who might not remember me, or don't know me, my mother's pseudonym is Pennywise. Pennywise I, not Pennywise II (albeit I recognize and salute the fellow JNMIL efforts and struggles, as her Pennywise sounds so similar to my own!). It truly is a popular name, especially for us Stephen King fans! This is a bit of a long read, so strap in and hold on. Alas, not as much drama, but it's definitely a success story. Looking to go NC? This will help convince you.

I suffer from C-PTSD, PTSD, arthritis, chronic pain, and fibromyalgia. Also, nearly exactly one year ago, I suffered trimalleolar fracture missing a single step and was in a wheelchair for months, then crutches, as I required two separate surgeries. I have been recently told that I have bone spurs, and will require another surgery to remove a long pin holding my tibia and fibula together, and to shave away some bone spurs that have started since the last surgery. Thankfully no cast will be required, and I'll be back on my feet in two weeks max. We were aiming to move far far away and go NC.

And we did.

And it has been a success.

I am drinking less (PTSD self-medication unfortunately), taking my anti-anxiety meds less, and am happier. We live out in the country, right on the water in a small communal of about six single-level apartments. Sitting down by the water has become one my absolute favourite things. The breeze despite the heat, the river slowly cruising past, everything out here smells cleaner -- I can smell trees, grass, NATURE ITSELF, and occasionally a wood fire burning somewhere.

We live about twenty minutes from my in-laws (the people who treat me like actual family), and we've just returned from one of those short trips. A Sunday dinner that I didn't freak out about attending. What used to take us three hours to get home afterwards (keep in mind I don't travel well at night thanks to the disassociation caused by my PTSD, so we used to spend the night).

Everything about this place is amazing. It has a cat run around every space but the bathroom and bedroom. A small hole in the door (framed and fitted just big enough for our two cats) that leads to their very own litter room, two walk in closets in our bedroom, tons of storage space, and a beautiful bathroom with a big tub, and amazing water pressure *(our last place had AWFUL water pressure, I used to have to do things in intervals! Shave my legs/underarms, and soap. Wash my hair, and soap. Scrub my skin and soap..

For those willing to listen

Seattle cop here, throwaway account. Long time lurker, first time poster so sorry for any bad reddiquette. There’re a lot less cops in our communities than civilians, and even less on the internet, so we don’t really get heard here. Usually, I don’t think it’s worth my time to speak up because I don’t think anyone actually wants to listen, but at this point I’m willing to try anything.

Like a lot of you, I’m frustrated, sad, hurt, discouraged, heartbroken. I’m part of the newest generation of cops, which means I chose this job despite the turmoil. I knew what I was up against. And that’s part of the reason I’m here – because I want to change things. I want things to be better, I want to help. So it’s really disheartening to have people online and in my face telling me what a terrible person I am for choosing this job. I know the whole criminal justice system is fucked up. That’s. Why. I’m. Here. And I do everything I can every day to make things better, to have my voice heard.

One of the biggest flaws I’ve recognized is officers’ terrible history of not communicating with the public. We should be telling you about this job, what we do, why we do it, what to expect from us. We should be telling you stories about 911 calls, the good ones and the terrible ones. I’m so tired of people eating up all the misinformation. I am working hard to change that by trying to push out more information about policing in Seattle and about the cops that do it, but that’s pretty time consuming, and my primary job is responding to your 911 calls on the night shift. Plus, over the past week, I have only had time to sleep and work since we’re on an emergency staffing schedule.

I would love to answer your questions I hear on the protest line about why I do this job, am I proud of what I do, am I a racist, is my name Karen, am I recording, how do I live with myself, do I care about George Floyd, why do I beat up queer people, do I think it’s ok to use tear gas, etc., but during a protest is not the time. When I’m on the line, I am trying to be aware of what’s happening around me 360 degrees. I am listening to my radio, which is going non-stop. I’m looking for the instigators, the people who show up just for the violence. I’m worried about myself and my coworkers being the targets. I don’t have time to answer your questions. Because believe me, I would love a chance to speak for myself. To not have you just assume the answers to all those questions.

Because I am, as are all of m

Cannabis Industry Stock Analysis - APHA

NOTE: I posted this in r/investing, but was told that people in this subreddit might find this interesting. I have been doing a series on cannabis stocks and posting my analysis in r/investing. This is the last part/company I was analyzing.

The company is Aphria, Inc. (TICKER: APHA). This is another company in the cannabis sector that is fairly profitable. Although APHA is not as profitable as companies I covered before such as IIPR and TCNNF, they present a great value and increased exposure to diverse markets.

Here is the breakdown:

  1. APHA is an international organization with a focus on building a global cannabis brand, with operations in Canada, Germany, Italy, Malta, Lesotho, Colombia, Argentina and Jamaica. The Company exists under the laws of Business Corporations Act (Ontario), is licensed to produce and sell medical and adult-use cannabis, cannabis-derived extracts, and derivative cannabis products in Canada under the provisions of The Cannabis Act. What is the takeaway? APHA is expanding into many untapped markets and provides an international footprint and diversification that other companies do not have. They are not affected by the actions of one market.
  2. Now to expand on the acquisitions and markets of APHA. While many companies are focused on just one market, the US, APHA has expanded elsewhere realizing that there are opportunities around the global. They own over 30 subsidiaries worldwide with ownership of 30 to 100%. Their biggest push has been in the German market where they fully own 5 companies and own 4 of 9 marijuana licenses that have been distributed by the German government. All foreign subsidiaries are supplied by APHA’s Canadian operations, so they have a decent amount of vertical integration.
  3. Looking at the management team, many members of the team come from The Hain Celestial Group, Inc., an organic and natural product and food company. This includes the CEO. The group is mainly made up of individuals with extensive corporate experience. Nothing really of note here.

(Note: All numbers have been converted from CAD to USD based on the exchange rate of the statements for the following sections)

  1. From an income statement perspective, APHA has been able to increase revenues from $95.0 million in the 1st quarter in 2020 to $108.0 million in the 3rd quarter in 2020. Although not as impressive as other companies they have been able to maintain profitably. The company generated a net income of $12 million in the 1st qua

Anarchism is not as utopian as you think. (A message to Marxists and new anarchists alike)

Anarchism to most peoples standards is usually in contrast to Marxism, which already is flawed, due to the fact Marxism is a analytical framework of society/history and Anarchism is an ethical philosophy on how we should act in relation to political, social, and economic forms of hierarchy. These two shouldn't be compared because they are in two unrelated sections of philosophical thought. However, we as anarchists will often times hear things such as idealist or utopian for this matter, because our philosophy emerges on principles of morals and the desire for things to adjust to those principles instead of them actually emerging from "science". There is already some faulty logic with this kind of thinking from the Marxists:

  1. The issue with this is the act of mutual exclusivity, the belief that having a set of ethical or moral principles implies that those goals or ethics cannot be justified through a materialist or analytical framework, Most modern anarchists in fact do not just hold these ethical principles, based on the assumption they are what is good, but rather these principles of anarchism are in direct relation to the qualities which society is based upon and how the course of societies prosper best on principles of mutual aid and horizontal-ism.

I cite you a excerpt from Pyotr Kropotkin in Anarchist Communism: Its basis and principles: "As to the method followed by the anarchist thinker, it entirely differs from that followed by the utopists. The anarchist thinker does not resort to metaphysical conceptions (like “natural rights,” the “duties of the State,” and so on) to establish what are, in his opinion, the best conditions for realizing the greatest happiness of humanity. He follows, on the contrary, the course traced by the modern philosophy of evolution. He studies human society as it is now and was in the past; and without either endowing humanity as a whole, or separate individuals, with superior qualities which they do not possess, he merely considers society as an aggregation of organisms trying to find out the best ways of combining the wants of the individual with those of cooperation for the welfare of the species. He studies society and tries to discover its tendencies, past and present, its growing needs, intellectual and economic, and in his ideal he merely points out in which direction evolution goes."

A Short History of Black Antisemitism

> Every Negro leader is keenly aware, from direct and personal experience, that the segregationists make no fine distinctions between the Negro and the Jew. The irrational hatred motivating his actions is as readily turned against Catholic, Jew, Quaker, Liberal and One-Worlder, as it is against the Negro. Some have jeered at Jews with Negroes; some have bombed the homes and churches of Negroes; and in recent acts of inhuman barbarity, some have bombed your synagogues—indeed right here in Florida. Have the Nazis murdered Catholic Poles and Jews, Protestant Norwegian and Jews, the races of America fly blindly at both of us caring not at all which of us falls. There aim is to maintain through cruel segregation groups whose uses as scapegoats can facilitate their political and social rule over all people. Our common fight is against these deadly enemies of democracy, and our glory is that we are chosen to prove that courage is a characteristic of oppressed people, however cynically and brutally they are denied full equality and freedom. - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., 1958

.

INTENTION:

> “Anti-Semitism is the socialism of fools.” - August Bebel, German Politician, leader of the Social Democrats in the late 19th century

Let the intention of this be absolutely crystal clear, this is not an indictment of the Black community, it is a historic analysis of how false conceptions can be spread and reinforced through a community, both by lack of experience, cultural misunderstanding, and unfortunate encounters. Nothing discussed here is insurmountable, merely a highlighting of perceptions among some, or many, but absolutely not all black Americans.

At the end of the day Black Americans and Jewish Americans have been largely stalwart allies of one another, and have worked ceaselessly together for the efforts of Civil Rights.

These ideas presented within are a cancerous growth that has been allowed to develop in dusty corners of black culture, and needs to be opposed and spoken out against.

Furthermore, Black American Antisemitism is vastly outnumbered by White Antisemitism. White people both outnumber, and have far more resources to work with in regards to radical networks in contrast to Black extremists.

So in no way is this intended to portray this as a problem of equal scope, merely discuss how it occurred.

European-originated Antisemitism has it's own unique history, and would require it's own post, though understanding a basis for it would g

When we found the creature, we thought it was an angel. We were just kids, ignorant of life's horrors. But now that twisted thing is free, and there's nothing we can do to stop it. [Part 1]

I suppose it all happened about twelve years ago. I’d hoped to have purged the memories from my mind by now, and that once seemed like a possibility with enough time and effort. I did everything in my power to forget about it, to pretend those things never happened. Hell, I tried every drug there was just to burn the thoughts away.

I’m mostly clean now. Besides, it didn’t work.

The memories are still there, haunting my every waking moment and even seeping into my dreams. After over a decade of trying to run from it, I can still feel this dark and immense weight upon my shoulders. But it’s more than just a weight.

It has a name.

It has a shape.

Sometimes I can still feel it in my head, probing with icy fingers. Back then we called it Raphael, but I’ve only ever thought of it as the angel.

What an absurd name. There was nothing angelic about that fucking thing.

-

We stood beneath the aged wooden roof of our “basecamp” – an old decrepit shed located in the woods behind our neighborhood. Elijah and Isaiah stood in front of me playing rock, paper, scissors. They’d already tied three times in a row, but the game finally ended when one of them opted for rock, handily beating his brother’s measly scissors.

“I win. That means you’re it.”

I scrutinized them and tried to determine who the winner was. Elijah and Isaiah were identical twins, and even after knowing them for six months, I still had trouble telling them apart. They were completely indistinguishable in every respect, from the mop of curly red hair on their heads to the freckles that dotted their faces. On days like today, they even opted to dress the same, which only made my task more difficult.

“Dammit,” the loser snapped.

I nodded. That meant Isaiah had won. Elijah was the only one who cursed. Though he was slightly more rebellious than his brother, they were both rather reserved for a couple of fourteen-year-olds. Their parents were intensely pious Christians, and the two boys were almost equally religious. I felt sorry for them in a way.

Born to a preacher and an ardent missionary, they spent their entire lives being dragged around the country before finally settling in the house that neighbored mine . Their parents claimed that this would be the last time they moved, but the twins knew better. They lived with the constant knowledge that their parents might hear “God’s call” again, and they’d be whisked away with only a few days’ notice.

Still grumbling about his loss, Elijah moved to

An Exhaustive Analysis of Metaphysical Laws in the TVD Universe and How They Affect the Main Species

Throughout The Vampire Diaries there have been a multitude of ways for characters who met their demise to come back to life (many of which have been rendered impossible by the destruction of post-death dimensions). We hear a lot about souls, spirits, ghosts, etc. as both humans and supernaturals are brought back from the dead, but the ways in which the metaphysics of the universe apply to each specific species are hardly ever explored in depth. This will be as detailed an analysis as I can make; please correct any errors if you’ve watched the relevant episodes more recently than I have!

You may find it useful to consult my equally pedantic diagram of all the dimensions in the show here.

Essential Definitions

Souls are the vehicles of consciousness, personal identity, and memory in TVD. Regardless of where a soul is located—in its original body, a vessel’s body, or one of the various dimensions—it operates as if it were a perfect, fully-functioning imprint of its owner’s mind. Souls can also be altered/tainted by supernatural transformations or morally reprehensible deeds.

Death is the separation of a soul from its physical body due to fatal trauma.

Spirits are deceased souls which have manifested a copy of their original body, whether incorporeal or corporeal. On the Other Side, the individuals residing there experienced life in astral bodies as if they were still alive yet were unable to communicate or interact with the world other than minor movements of objects or other ghost tomfoolery. In “Ghost World,” the spell that Esther cast allowed spirits to temporarily achieve corporeality, but they were still dead having not actually passed through the Anchor. It is unclear whether souls trapped in Arcadius’s dimension existed as spirits or simply experienced a simulation of actual pain and misery via psychic power (I lean toward the latter).

Returning is one of the two main mechanisms of life restoration in the show. It refers to the case of a soul that has died being placed inside an existing physical body, living or dead. Returning takes many forms in the show and is what most people would imagine when they consider the idea of being brought back to life. Illustrative examples include Bonnie’s use of spirit magic to resuscitate Jeremy after he was shot by Sheriff Forbes, Esther and Finn’s posthumous possession of the bodies of

No, the Treaty of Versailles was not particularly harsh, especially when compared to contemporary treaties

Edit: For those looking for a more indepth look at the economic side of the treaty, check out this post I made

A persistent myth about the rise of Nazism, and consequently WW2, is that the Germans were somehow forced to support a genocidal regime due to a combination of Hitler’s charisma and the harshness of the Treaty of Versailles leaving them no other choices.

Thankfully, most of the comments are filled with people pointing out that this view is wrong, but I figured a more in-depth look at the supposed harshness of the treaty would be fun. Plus I’m bored and don’t really feel like unpacking after moving, so here I am.

While the argument that Versailles drove the Germans to Nazism lends to the obvious stripping of agency from the German population during this pivotal period, that particular bad history has been covered before on this subreddit(u/Samuel_Gompers discusses it at length here). Therefore, this post will be focused on the supposed harshness of the treaty itself, rather than a direct rebuttal to the specifics of any of the above bad history.

Marx's Internal Contradictions on the Labour Theory of Value

Marx's Law of Value held that the relative exchange values of commodities over the long run was exclusively based on their respective labour inputs to reproduce those commodities. In other words, his Labour Theory of Value ascribed all value creation as due to labour, and no part of capital. But this does not flow from his own writing.

>However useful a given kind of raw material, or a machine, or other means of production may be, though it may cost £150, or, say, 500 days’ labour, yet it cannot, under any circumstances, add to the value of the product more than £150.

The second boded sentence clearly means that the means of production cannot add more value to the product than their own exchange value.

https://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/download/pdf/Capital-Volume-I.pdf

In Capital Vol III, page 51

>If the surplus-value is given, the rate of profit can be increased only by reducing the value of the constant capital required for commodity-production. **So far as constant capital enters into the production of

Gerard Dupuis looked up from his terminal as the door to one of the Event Horizon’s many civilian laboratories slid open. This one in particular was a short trip from his cabin, and featured a suite of tools for working on microbiological experiments. Given that he was dealing with well contained Cauthan blood samples, all stashed away in isolated and sterile environments or centrifuges, he’d set the hatch protocols to allow guests feely. This one in particular was most pleasing to his eye as she rested against the bulkhead, cocking her matronly hip in a manner only the French were capable of.

“Ma chatounette, I promise I have put all my other experiments on hold to conduct our search for Cauthan pregnancy markers. Ah, that reminds me. Cassia, please make a note to reach out to the data technicians aboard the ship to ensure our protein modeling software is up to date. I suspect we will be modeling novel compounds shortly, to say nothing of the possibility of new amino acids.”

‘Yes, Dr. Dupuis.’

“Gerard, mon loup, you really think I came all this way just to nag you?” Yvonne chuckled, sauntering up to him and placing a heartfelt kiss on his lips, one he was happy to receive.

“It would not be the first time, Yvonne,” he pointed out slyly.

“Let it never be said I don’t give you what you deserve, mon amour.”

“And what, pray tell, are you here to give me right now?” Gerard inquired quietly. Yvonne threw a coy look his way, pulling their hips together for a moment before procuring her tablet.

“I just thought you might want to take a look at this,” she replied, pivoting and wrapping one arm around his slim middle so that they could both look at her screen. Displayed was a picture from the Maran surface, sent by Alice. Lachlan was presum

First Pass Day 1 out of 4: Adding A Period

Previous thread

Today we're adding a new period.

Big Picture: The discovery of magic and its consequences was a disaster for the human race.

Our Palette

We have a palette now! I'll be making a post soonish showing my work when it came to combining or ignoring comments.x

Yes:

  • Distinct regional magical cultures.
  • Simulacra/Golem/Artificial/Pseudo-life. No immortality for these either though.

No:

  • (Default Rule) Time Travel of any kind
  • (Default Rule) Immortality. A mortal character should not appear in more than one period. The reason is that the time between periods is flexible. If you have a character in more than one period, their lifetime could change dramatically through play making them like an immortal. It could also discourage people from adding periods out of fear of extending a character's life.
  • Innate magical talent (magical ability should be purely academic/practise-based with no natural predisposition/advantage)

Timeline so far

  • ⚫ Period: A leak reveals that humans hav
