Natural Gas Providers?

I am moving in a few weeks, and need to choose a Gas service. I've not had one in this area before, and the 3 that were recommended were SCANA, Gas South, and GA Natural Gas. Gas South has the best fixed price at $0.67/therm for 12 months, but I was wondering if anyone has any insight into quality of service differences between these providers, or whether some have higher install fees, etc. Other service provider recommendations are also welcome.

Crude Oil -> Sour Gas -> Natural Gas Boiler (Pre-space, High-capacity, Efficient, Cheap)

Here's my design for a Sour Gas Boiler I've been designing for my survival game. I'm still pre-space so that means no thermium or super-coolant. So it's based on magma heating and thermo regulator/hydrogen cooling.

Overview

The boiler is in the middle with 2 counter flow heat exchange towers. Crude oil -> sour gas on the left and sour gas -> natural gas on the right. The oil and magma tanks on the left would be replace by an oil well and a volcano, respectively, in survival. The petroleum and hydrogen tanks on the right are purely for priming the cooling loops and aren't necessary for operation.

Oil Heat vs. Natural Gas

Everything I'm reading on the internet sounds like a whole lot of marketing, so I figured I'd come here for insight!

My spouse and I are first-time homebuyers and trying to choose between a house with oil heating vs. one with natural gas heating. In my personal experience, oil has been a nightmare, but I'm reading that as long as it's a newer system (this one is brand new), it can actually be incredibly efficient, even compared to natural gas.

Can anyone way in on the pros and cons to oil vs. natural heat (e.g., cost, efficiency, even personal experience)? Thanks in advance!

Why not uncompressed natural gas for fuel?

I've been thinking about the problem of airships getting lighter as they burn fuel, so why not just have some gas bags full of NG in the envelope instead? NG is a lifting gas, so now you get heavier instead of lighter and you can just dump cheap water instead of expensive Helium.

The NG bags could be in the middle of the envelope with Helium all around, to avoid mixing with oxygen in case of a leak. Of course that takes up lots of space, but gasoline needs to be lifted by He, which also takes up lots of space. NG lifts itself.

You could get a bit fancier and carry some compressed natural gas as well, so that your total fuel load is neutrally buoyant, and burn both NG from the envelope and CNG from bottles at an adjustable ratio for buoyancy control. Something similar could be done with a dual fuel engine running off a mixture of gasoline or kerosene and natural gas, though that needs more engineering.

Natural gas engines are commonplace, proven tech, so it seems strange that this

Second Try - Natural Gas, but no shut off?

Hey Guy - second attempt because I got removed by auto-mod.

The Setup: We bought a house last year (NJ/PA area). The house is 100yo, with lots of random things that a house this age would have. The house runs on oil, but in 2016 the previous owner connected to natural gas. I think the plan was to convert at some point, but the owner died before that happened. So the house has a natural gas meter in the basement that currently runs the dryer, and has a pipe running to underneath the kitchen with nothing connected to it. That's it - a small line run to the dryer in the basement, and a dead end under the kitchen. Basement is unfinished so I can trace the entire line.

The Problem: the dryer just died (runs but won't spin the tub). I go to take a look at it, and I realize I will need to disconnect the gas to take it apart. But there is no shutoff switch for the gas. I can touch the pipe all the way back to the meter (less than 20ft distance) and there is no way to shut off the gas. The

Smells like natural gas in the air?

I live in Chatsworth and my friend lives in Reseda. Randomly they said it smells like gas around their house and I had noticed it when I stepped outside as well.

Anyone else smell it?

Need to remove this natural gas line from a patio, not sure who to call

Bought my house a few months ago and finally getting around to doing some yard repairs. The previous owner had installed this gas line, presumably to use with a fire pit. I'd like to remove it with as little damage to the patio as possible.

I'm not sure who I need to call to get this done. A natural gas plumber? A landscaper? A contractor? All of the above?

Thanks in advance!

Converting natural gas cooker to LPG

I've picked up a 2 burner cooker / hob cheap, and want to convert to LPG use.
As far as I understand it, the main thing is switching over the jet nozzle injectors to a smaller bore. But there seems to be various sizes and I can't find any resource on which ones I would need.

Any guidance?

[Serious] On the oil demand crisis and why you should buy Natural Gas stocks.

tl;dr Big Oil Russia vs Saudi vs Shale stand off = HEAVEN for pure Nat Gas equity players in the US

Let me start off by saying I admire the tanker post from a few days ago. The title is obviously mirrors that. However, while the Oil Tankers are a valid play, they are a short/mid term play - where the author is betting that not all the good news on the tanker front has been priced into the stock. Which may be a valid hypothesis, but is also risky. What if the sentiment were already priced in (..highly unlikely but not impossible) and an earnings sell off came?

There is, however, a better play to the Oil situation: Natural Gas. Here's why:

NatGas has been the collateral damage due to the capital destruction that is the Shale industry. Since NatGas is also a product found alongside the Oil, many Oil companies got into the business and started pumping. Hey, why not? -> Which has led to a multi-multi-multi year decline in the commodity. This is turn forced the **pure Natural G

Japan has only a 2-week stockpile of liquid natural gas; if supplies stop, it will cause major power supply problems in the country, says Nikkei's Asian review.

Thought this bit from the daily update at the supply chain sub might interest the prep crowd, since I've been reading on the PandemicPreps sub that some of you are concerned about utility disruptions as a result of the pandemic.

Source of the below is: /r/supplychain/comments/g76jhh/covid19_update_friday_24th_april/ - this is just an excerpt. The user who writes these provides some excellent info in his daily updates that could give you a heads up about what the future holds. For instance it was in his posts that I learned transoceanic shipping from China had come to a standstill, and his posts are the reason I went out and prepped, back in late Jan and early Feb, for a lot of everyday, ordinary things like floss, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and anything we use daily that is plastic/imported/made in China, etc. Today I had a look at toothpaste on Amazon, and $2 tubs are listed for $15 each, by profiteers/price-gougers. They have no stock available on Amazon at regular prices. A

Natural Gas Service Pressure - How to increase pressure?

Hey all!

It's a hell of a time to be opening a brewery, but I've been at this for 5 years now, so I'm not giving up yet. A little background, the space I have is ~3500 sqft; 10 bbl direct fire kettle, electric HLT. I am responsible for all fitout of the space. I am in bidding/construction now.

I'm in a major Northeast city and we supposedly have natural gas pressure of 4.5" w.c. at the main. My engineering team designed my system to have a gas booster pump to increase the pressure up to 13.5" w.c. and then the pressure would be dropped to 6" w.c. by regulators at the kettle and 7" w.c. at the AHU.

That was the plan until I got the bid - the gas booster alone is a $30k line item. My engineering team has been less than ideal to work with. They basically designed in a vacuum and delivered a final product. Now when I want to discuss WHY and HOW they made decisions it's always an additional fee. So I am turning to the great minds of Reddit.

Did you have issues with natural gas pressu

Intermediate Outlook on the Natural Gas (NG) Market

So the futures market just opened up minutes ago, and Natural Gas futures opened up over 3%. I think this commodity market is looking very bullish the next few months heading into the summer, and I will explain why. Natural Gas futures are mostly energy complex supply/demand affected, meaning that if you pay attention to the news in the market for the commodity as well as the analysts that make predictions, you can anticipate price movements with some level of predictability (not fool proof). Last week, the EIA released its usual Thursday Natural Gas Storage report, showing a build of 70 billion cubic feet (bcf). This was bearish sentiment, which resulted in NG futures prices declining as a result (just to give an idea how the markets react to news). The build was above expected, indicating that producers have not shut in the supply increases as much as anticipated, following months long of demand d

Natural Gas Market Outlook going into May/June

So the Natural Gas futures market closed around its support for the front month contract today going into the weekend. This presents a unique opportunity going into May. As many may know from my other post(s) about Natural Gas futures, the market for the commodity has been experiencing severe demand destruction for the last month and a half, similar to the market for crude oil (WTI). The EIA released its usual Natural Gas Storage report this last Thursday morning, indicating a three-digit build for the week ended measured in billion cubic feet. This was in alignment with expectations regarding the build, and it has been noted by multiple analysts that the Natural Gas market's downward finish this week was mostly due to the rerouting of gas produc

Natural Gas Grill - Worth it?

We live in Canada, and probably only have about three or four months of good barbecue weather per year.

We moved into a house that has a natural gas line outside, so we want to utilize it. However I don't want to buy a very expensive BBQ because I don't know how long we will live here for. Also I don't want to go to the Natural Gas BBQ route if my gas bill is going to Skyrocket.

I've had cheap charcoal grills before that totally do the trick so I'm thinking if all in all it's going to cost me a lot I'll just go that route again. What do you think? Is a natural gas grill worth it? And if so, what can you recommend under $500?

There are 3 mouths to feed, and me and my partner both enjoy cooking and would use it for a variety of foods and meats.
