When I was growing up in the 90s, my friends and I would end our summer evenings walking through a cloud of moths and other insects as we stepped under the porchlight and into the house. I would see tiger moths, loopers, tussocks, sphinxes, geometers, plumes, daggers, underwings, and the beautiful Polyphemus. I can remember the opportunistic predatory soldier beetles, lacewings, and snakeflies who would snag some of the smaller bugs, and the horrifying dobsonflies who would in turn prey on them. As a "bug kid" I loved them all.
I moved away from my childhood home after school and spent some years in cities where insects were scarce and gardening all but impossible. I missed nature terribly and in 2019 I moved back in with my parents to go back to school to switch to a job where I could be out in it. It was only supposed to be for 6 months (thanks Covid) but the time I've had off allowed me to start gardening for wildlife. I got my parents to stop blasting the yard with herbicide to "get rid of goatheads" and I instead encouraged native plants to choke them out. This season I have... keep reading on reddit ➡
I don't get how people can be scared of moths but like butterfiles. There are some really pretty moths all over the world and they're just as pretty as butterfiles. Also butterflies can also be scary sometimes too.
I've been a HUGE fan of LMTF ever since I got into the genre back in 2013. And seeing the amazing response to their newest album has inspired me to write this Beginner's Guide. They have a shockingly large discography, and (in my humble opinion) not a single bad album. They've already taken off this past year, after years of grinding and being support on tours, so hopefully this guide encourages even more folks to check them out.
Like Moths To Flames is a metalcore band from Columbus, Ohio, formed in 2010 by former members of various other bands. Namely, vocalist Chris Roetter had previously been the vocalist of "Emarosa" and "Agraceful", with other members of the original lineup hailing from "My Ticket Home" and "The Crimson Armada". Roetter and bassist Aaron Evans are the only remaining founding members as of 2021. The band is known for their relentlessly heavy sound, with an abundance of breakdowns and mosh call-outs in nearly every song, as well as their nihilistic, angsty and depressive lyricism, that frequently focuses on anti-theism and social ostracization. Basically, if you've ever been the outcast, and you love brutal breakdowns, LMTF was made for you. Let's get into their discography.
I've never dealt with flour moths before, but we have tons fluttering around in our kitchen and it's disgusting. My roommate and I have very different ideas of how our kitchen should be kept. She says she is used to flour moths from her experience. Any advice would be much appreciated! Are these moths harmful?
