This is a Fan champion I’ve been working on for 3 months for my favourite game, League of legends, and I’m really excited to share the result with you😃
It was incredibly fun and challenging creating a small region within an already existing world, then forcing that region to no longer exist anymore. This forced me to think deeply on how the world functions, studying the many iterations that came to mind on both story and abilities.
I still feel that there is plenty I can do to truly refine and perfect Carmela, her abilities, story and the world around her, however I focused on the bigger picture and concepts, rather than going into the extremely specific details and balancing.
The manufacturing process involved lots of machining coolant to prevent the high speed tool bits and the parts from overheating and fusing together, and help remove the massive quantity of metal chips/shavings from the drilling areas. The coolant is fantastic for the machining operation and metals in general, but it eats paint and embrittles plastic and rubber. Any cables that are in the exposure zone are in armored cables or metal tubing.
Some of the coolant ends up being aerosolized from the spray and while it is below OHSA's safety limit, it's still enough to slowly degrade the paint inside the facility over time. There are certain areas that have much higher concentration of the mists, but because people rarely work in those areas, the company wasn't concerned.
There was one cabinet full of industrial control systems and network switching gear in that rarely visited area. That thing had been there since the 1980's and saw many modifications (usually with more stuff being added in). Sometime ago, it started having problems and one of the technicians used a thermal imaging camera to confirm that it was an overheating problem.
In an ideal world, they would have either used a bigger electrical cabinet, move some of the stuff elsewhere to lower the thermal load concentration, or install a fan with a filter in front to catch the mists. Instead someone just left the cabinet open and informed their supervisor that the problem was solved.
Guess what coats the wires and cables in the cabinet? Rubber and plastic. And while the circuit boards in the electronics are laminated fiberglass, the components on those boards frequently use plastic shells to protect the silicon chips or other internal components, and are encased in more plastic.
There were also 480V cables and breakers inside of that cabinet as well.
More than a year down the road, the station starts having erratic behaviors and would randomly alarm out. The insulation on the wires in the cabinets were melting or flaking off, allowing bare copper to come in contact with each other. During the troubleshooting, they removed one of the swappable controls module and the plastic housing cracked, with a chunk falling out. Somehow the 480V cables hadn't lost their insulation yet, which would have been a problem if they had metal-to-metal contact somewhere.
And that was I how spent my Thanksgiving week a few years ago, replacing the entire system because everything was... keep reading on reddit ➡
I read it in high school nearly 20 years ago and it deeply affected me in a way that no other story has since. I used to carry around a beat up Old copy of Skeleton crew and make all my friends read the mist. What’s everyone’s favorite king story or novel?
I just finished The Mist 2007 and... I’m honestly speechless. At the beginning, I thought it was good, with the exception of some pretty awful CGI but as soon as the religious nutter started taking power, it took a turn. There were several moments where I felt as if I was about to cry or shout. I was just so angry and sad at the same time. When they were all killing the soldier and calling him a Judas - I’ve never felt so strongly at a piece of fiction ever. Then obviously the ending...
The music as they drive the SUV the mist was amazing. Then the colossus animal walks past. I was in awe at how amazing it looked. The car breaks down and their faces say it all. Once the credits rolled, I have never in my life felt so frustrated and heartbroken about another movie. I sat there and stared at the credits for minutes.
The Mist is incredible and one of the most emotionally impactful horror movies - or movies - of all time.
Playing for the first time. Had to face Mist Noble. Air assassinated her once and fulfilled her posture by 3-4 hits only for the second deathblow without her toching me! Is it supposed to be like this? Or have I made my character too overpowered and I don't know?
Cause I have a seeeriouuuus problem against the headless giant in the Hidden Forest and can't beat him. It means I'm not overpowered.
Lud-In-The-Mist was actually written almost 100 years ago, but I only heard of it recently and read it for the first time over the past few days. It is not an easy read; similar to Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, the prose is complex and slightly archaic, and it takes a couple chapters to get into the swing of things, but it was so compelling (and not nearly as long!) that I chewed through it. I can see why Neil Gaiman praises it so highly, and I can see lots of Lud-In-The-Mist's influence in Stardust. This is probably the best thing I've read since NK Jemisin.
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to get through the maze in Mists of Tirna Scithe. The pattern is extremely subtle, and without at least 5 thousand IQ most of the symbols will go over a typical dungeoner's head. There's also Mistcaller's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into her characterisation- her personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The raiders understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these puzzles, to realise that they're not just challenging- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Mists truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Mistcaller's existential catchphrase "Yay! More friends are here to play! Come along!," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Ion Hazikostas's genius wit unfolds itself on their CRT monitors. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂
And yes, by the way, i DO have a Pattycake tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎
TLDR: Use the entrance stone to eliminate 3 attributes from consideration. Then find the one unique attribute among the 3 misted exits.
I've seen quite a few posts explaining how the Maze works. I think by now, most people understand how to solve the maze, but are still a little slow or unreliable at actually executing the solve in the dungeon. Sure, when you have all 4 images in front of you and you have a second to consider them, it's very easy to solve. But when you're on a timer (i.e., a M+ timer), the goal will be to solve the puzzle reliably during combat with the trash in the room. If you are trying to pump dps/heals and dodge mechanics while also running around to the four stones and trying to retain all four images in your head, the simple puzzle suddenly can become tricky.
This post will explain the method I use the simplify the puzzle in my head. It reduces the amount of information you need to retain and makes it easier to consider only what you're looking for.
Here are some rules about the puzzle:
There are six (6) total attributes in the puzzle: flower, leaf, filled, hollow, circle, no circle
One attribute will appear only once. This is the attribute that will indicate the correct path. All other attributes will appear more than once.
There are four (4) stones in each room - one (1) at the entrance to the room and one at each of the three (3) misted exits.
You will never go back the way you came - the way forward is always one of the misted exits.
With these rules in mind, we can make the following simplifications:
You are looking for the unique attribute. Don't think of it as looking for the one image that stands out, but rather you are looking for the one attribute that occurs only once.
Since the entrance is never the correct path, the three attributes in the entrance image can be eliminated. Therefore, three of the six attributes can immediately be discarded from consideration.
You can then use the 3 remaining candidate attributes and look for the one that occurs only once.
So here's the thought process solving the puzzle:
You walk into the room, and before engaging in combat, immediately check the entrance stone. Let's say you see Hollow - Leaf - No Circle. Because the entrance will never be the correct path, we can immediately eliminate these three attributes from consideration. So between Filled, Flower, and Circle, one of these attributes will occur only once in the remaining thr... keep reading on reddit ➡
