What exactly do people mean when they say they’re „writing“ a melody? Isn’t it better to have a chord progression and then just playing what naturally comes up in your head instead of „writing“ it note by note, doesnt this take the whole „feel“ aspect away? As in when you write it out note by note kind of takes away the rhythm and feel doesn’t it?
Weirdly worded question probably by the way
I think I might be going through my phase of impostor syndrome but I don't know for sure. I'm a beginner but I seem to come up with melodies fairly easy (really just pressing notes of the same key in a different order and different rhythm each time trying to find stuff that works). But I can't help but think maybe my subconscious is just taking catchy melodies from songs I've already heard and regurgitating it. I'm not really sure. I understand that there are an finite number of chords and melodies that you can make and there's nothing new under the sun but I'd hate if ever was to release a piece of work and people telling me I stole a melody from somewhere.
Does this happen to anyone else or does anyone else feel like this?
I haven’t been able to find anything to my liking. Anyone here got recommendations?
Shawtys 👧 like a melody 🎼 in my head 🧠 that i can’t keep out 🙅♂️got me singin like 🗣 na na na na 🎶
This band, to me, has the most creative and “hookish” melodies. It’s just one song after another.
For me, I’d say “Wild”. It’s the first song I’ve ever heard from them (they were performing it on Jimmy Fallon). The chorus just digs so deep. It’s just so pretty.
Also the end of “Chariot”. That shit is godlike. I can’t even explain how glorious it sounds.
The number is 17 minutes long, has zero place in the movie, and reportedly cost $600,000 in 1952 money just for that portion (ironically the same amount the production went over budget). I can't imagine too many other people getting away with something so crazy.
I find it really hard to come up with good melodies. Most melodies I think of are either too simple, bland or are just existing songs thats in the back of my head. Do you use any sort of technique?
I've looked at many guides and videos on how to write music, but they always talk about chords; never about melodies. I've gotten to a point where I can write chords in my head, but I can't write a simple melody if my life depended on it. Any help?
If I am completely honest with you, I think there’s really something off here. Yeah she might be seen as overreacting but I’ve always had my reservations towards Jamie Oborne. And if I am being honest, it kinda makes sense what she’s saying, I don’t know to what extent it is true or not but I don’t think JO is all innocent.

I am currently working on some tracks that are basically just dark soundscapes that do not have any melody or beats over top of the atmospheric sounds and I was wondering if there would even be any interest in that. If you have any examples of someone else doing this I would love to hear it! Thanks for the help!
As someone who is new and trying to learn how to make beats what’s the best way to learn how to make melodies? Everything sounds like garbage no matter what I do and I can’t seem to find a sound that I can make work, I just need a place to start cause I am lost right now
I’ve been using melody loops for a while now, and now I’m trying to break away from that. My main problem isn’t necessarily writing melodies (although that can use work too) it’s also a struggle to find synths or VSTs that sound as good as the ones in the loops I used. (Like, I struggle to find a good sound)
Any help is appreciated!
I’ve been struggling a lot with melodic writing lately and I could do with some advice on how to come up with solid ideas and motifs that can be developed through a piece or series of pieces.
A bit about my background (I think this is necessary as when I asked this question on another sub a lot of people assumed I was a beginner): I’ve been playing Piano and Drums for about 15 years and guitar for about 8, I’ve been in numerous orchestras, wind bands and jazz groups on all 3 instruments as well as in a few different rock/pop groups and as a session musician in my production work for other artists. I studied sound technology at university. I’ve been playing around with composing orchestral work and studying instrumentation and orchestration since I was about 15
My grasp on theory is solid and as of yet I haven’t found any concepts that I particularly struggle with, yet melodies are where I hit a brick wall.
Looking back on all the work I’ve done I don’t think there’s anyth... keep reading on reddit ➡
I am working on a video that catalogues these If I have missed any please enlighten me. You will be credited in the description of the video Note I have not listened to the numbered albums that much, and I have not listened to MADLO, so any from there would be appreciated. Why this bitch gotta call me out like this, fuck you. Melody Vaillancourt? More like Melody Villiancourt, out here trying to tell me that sacrificing everything about my life for someone i'm in love with is a problem??? Doesn't she know I have zero value unless it's while white knighting someone? Leave it to a Minneapolis girl to Minneamize my whole identity of only feeling like a human if i'm bending over backwards for the first person in the crowd to say "I love you" to me as if it's a fault of myself for not having any boundaries.
This asshole really sat down and wrote "They don't feel happy, content, or peaceful with themselves, so they look for happiness outside themselves." Like, keep my name out of your mouth bitch, I didn't ask you to analyze my entire life and write a book about it. Not my fault the only times I've been healthy and sober is when i'm rescuing somebody. You're lucky I don't sue your ass for harassment, this book was highly uncalled for and getting my thera... keep reading on reddit ➡
I've got the impression that many people here think that the chance of it activating is so slim it might just have not been there. However, that's not the case, and its RNG doesn't actually ruin the charm.
According to the Hollow Knight wiki, the chance of it activating increases with each hit taken. It starts at 0% and increases by 10% with each hit (20% between 3rd and 4th hit), up to 90% on 7th hit. So you'd need a really shitty luck to not activate it by then.
It averages out to roughly 22.4% of hits blocked. Which means that with 9 masks, it "gives" about 2 more HP. So, if it gives 2 masks for 3 notches, we're better off with Lifeblood Heart, aren't we? Well, there's where the RNG comes in. Lifeblood charms block only the first hits. After that, their effect is gone until the next bench. But Carefree Melody can work whenever. The more you heal, the more you get out of this charm, because it has more opportunities to save you from damage. Also, Carefree Melody negates damage comp... keep reading on reddit ➡
Yall ever get random ear worms for Kingdom melodies? It's been happening to me a lot recently. Just saw an Instagram post that said Stay Awake (from a nonJW) and immediately my brain flooded with STAY AWAKE STAND FIRM GROW MIGHTYYYYY. Itll be stuck in my head all day too
First, my apologies if this has been repeated before.
I have been writing poems for several years. Now I want to make a song. I have written lyrics and made up melody for some songs. Basically, I can sing the songs.
But I dont know any instruments and dont know anything about chords and notes and music theory at all.
How do I progress? What and where should I learn?
My friend advised me to get and learn ukelele to get started easily and just work my way up. Should I?
EDIT: I posted this last night thinking I could stay up and read and reply to the comments but I just slept right through it. Anyways, I can reply now and I must say Im overwhelmed. This is my first post to have this much of replies.
