[Anime Awards] 2018 /r/Anime Awards Nominations! Vote Here!

#LINK TO THE NOMINATION WEBSITE

awards wa mou shinderu

Welcome back, everyone, to the 3rd Annual /r/anime Awards! With the New Year only days away, it’s the perfect time to reflect back on what we’ve done over the past year. How much time have we spent watching seasonals, and which, if any, were actually worth watching? What better way to decide that than by picking your favorites of the year to be nominations for the prestigious /r/Anime Awards?

This year we have mercifully moved away from the previously used Contest Mode system that everyone seemed to despise and on to much, much better things with this lovely new website Santa left for us under the tree! Most of it is pretty slick and intuitive, but some stuff does require a bit of explaining.

As always, we take public feedback seriously, and you’ve made it quite clear that you want to decide where the shows you vote for are allocated. You can now do exactly that!

Simply tab through the genre categories and scroll or search for the shows you'd like to nominate in each. To emphasize: doing this means you are nominating the show for the given tab's genre category. Please don't assign things to genres if you're not voting for them.
Don't worry about splitting votes, vote for the shows you most like in the categories you think are most appropriate. The shows with the most total votes will go on to become nominees in whatever genre they were most selected. For instance, a show with 1500 votes across three different genres will beat out a show with 1000 votes in one genre. If all the top nominations for a given genre are taken, the show will compete in the next common genre allocation, up to a point. There will be a minimum threshold amount of votes that a show must get in a genre in order to be considered, so as to avoid less popular categories being filled with shows that don't really fit the genre but didn't make it elsewhere. (If that's confusing, don't worry about it. We're just preventing unlikely issues)

It works the same for the Character categories, where you vote on where you want certain characters to go (main/supporting, dramatic/comedic), with the exception of Antagonist, which can have overlap with other character categories. All other categories are very straightforward, just vote for whatever you think is most deserving of a nomination in a particular category. The top

List of fauna on pollland

This is a very long read and you are in no way required to read it all. If you have a short attention span like me you should probably leave

Together with aditya (and users like u/Mia_b-p suggestions) I’ve compiled a list of potential fauna for pollland. I won’t be including small animals such as slugs and bugs. We’re definitely no experts on biology which means some of this may be inaccurate, so if anyone sees anything unrealistic let me know and I will fix it.

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”Dracaltaβ€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”

Class: reptilia

Diet: carnivore

Created by me and u/adityagiri3600

The Dracalta, a lizard the size of a dog, is a terrifying creature that lives inside trees. This lizard will hide within the trees and jump out at its prey. When it locates a potential victim, it will jump out and grab on with its claws. It will then claw and bite its way through the flesh of the creature, until it dies. If others are nearby, it will let out a horrendous screech to alert them. The Dracalta’s main prey is Colvine, Pegaceler, Megathere, sometimes occulion, and the occasional human. It’s strategy is only occasionally successful, as it usually is shaken off. The Dracalta can survive being thrown at speeds of 50 miles per hour as well as run very far very fast. That means that they survive most encounters. Because of that, they’ve become apex predators.

The megalania is a big lizard about 11-17 feet long. It typically sleeps in the ocean or in lakes. It is an apex predator which hunts Colvine, Pegaceler, Occulion, bananales makashas, Megathere, and sometimes even their own species. The megalania sleep in rivers, lakes and the ocean. Long ago, the Megalania primarily existed in the south. Then humans came along and hunted them almost to extinction. The megalania were forced to flee to the north, where they had to adapt to a more terrestrial lifestyle. They have an incredibly strong jaw, and are even venomous. They have evolved to be able to climb mountains and cliffs such as the ashka drop. Every once in a while it will climb onto land and begin to hunt for food. The Megalania is stealthy enough to sneak up to its prey, and can jump high enough to be able to take the prey by surprise. It has an incredible bite strength, and even if it loses its enemy may die from the megalania’s venom anyway. Because of this they have become apex predators. The megalania has become endangered due to trophy

The r/anime Awards 2019 Announcement and Jury Application

LINK TO THE JUROR APPLICATION

Welcome back to the 4th annual /r/anime Awards! It's time again to watch a bunch of seasonals and argue about which one was best, or at least which one was least bad. Based on feedback from the previous year we have a lot of new changes, the biggest ones being:

  • Test Categories! A new way for us to test out the potential of new, more experimental categories without clogging up the existing ones. They also allow us to test out other new ideas in a separate environment, like splitting Public and Jury nominees. You can read more about it below.
  • We are also bringing back the old Host Allocation system from 2017. This will hopefully make the nomination process smoother and allow the jurors more breathing room. You can view the allocations here. If you think a series was misplaced or missing, please submit an allocation change suggestion here. Note that Fall shows are still airing and will therefore likely be missing on the sheet. They will be added by the Hosts as the season progresses.
  • This year we'll be placing a much larger focus on the staff behind the anime we love. Every nominated entry will have relevant staff credits for their category in order to celebrate the people behind them.
  • Movies are now eligible for the Genre Awards.
  • Something which was sorely missing last year: Bonus Awards will return! You'll once again be able to vote for "Best meme", "Best mom", and many silly one-off awards. Stay tuned for those.

In case you missed it, here is how the Awards looked last year: Announcement | Results post | Website | Livestream

The Awards Process

The base format of the Awards are still the same: The Awards are split into two groups, the Public and the Jury, who will each nominate shows and separately rank them.

The Public is everyone on /r/anime. You will select 4 nominees per category, once again using the amazing website developed by our very own /u/geo1088. You can use this site to vote for

[/r/Anime Awards] 2016 And the winners are...

#How to read the results

The results are ordered from best to worst by the jury of that award. You can then see the following metrics:

  • Votes - The % of votes gotten.
  • Interest - The % of voters who have declared they watched the anime partially or completely.
  • Finished - The % of voters that has finished the anime. The difference between "Interest" and "Finished" tells a lot about accessibility of the show.
  • Supporters - The % of voters who declared they finished the show and picked it as their best. Or rather, the ratio of "finished" declarations to votes it got. This has funny implications and you're going to find out why later.

Highest scores in each column are bolded.

An entry that has been present in the popular vote, but discarded by the jury is marked by italics and placed at the end.

#Action

Jury pick: Haikyuu!! S2+3

>We felt that Haikyuu!! succeeded the most as an action series in 2016 because it was able to elicit the strongest reactions from us. No other nominee in this category got us more hyped or excited while watching the action unfold. Haikyuu is able to create a strong connection between its sports setting and the audience by being exemplary in virtually every category that is important for the genre. This includes superb animation, skilled direction, complete clarity of action, and excellent character development right on the court. Both of the consistently high-quality seasons that aired in 2016 are worthy of the top spot.

Community Pick: Mob Psycho 100 with 42.9% votes

Verdict: Votes Interest Finished Supporters
Haikyuu!! S2+3 13.0% 45.9% 34.5% 37.8%
Mob Psycho 100 42.9% 84.8% 71.1% 60.3%
JoJo Part 4 DiU 18.3% 47.1% 39.0% 47.0%
Boku no Hero Academia 16.9% 83.2% 73.6% 23.0%
Keijo!!!!!!!! 8.8% 62.9% 38.8% 22.7%

It was a super tough choice between the top 3 nominees especially since they're all really excellent series. In the end though, the other choices got... served by Haikyuu.

#Adventure

Jury Pick: Flip Flappers

>Flip Flappers, for the majority of its run, consisted of episodic adventures with vibrant animation and dynamic fight sequences, that could be wondrous, horrific, tense, or exciting depending on the episode's theme. But as the layers of symbols and references kept building, and the main plot revealed itself

Should You Watch It? Summer 2018 Edition

Spring 2018 Edition’s Thread

The character limit has been reached, so, for those new to the thread, please read this comment for the starting and ending details!

Without further ado, let us start our "Should You Watch It?" Summer 2018 Edition!

##Asobi Asobase

####A Perspective, courtesy of /u/AnimeEngineerYoutube:

Watch It

β€œAsobi Asobase: Cute girls doing surreal things cranked up to 11.

Three middle school girls join forces to make a club. The only problem is all three have their own version of what the club is about. In spite of this, the three girls will stop at nothing to maintain their not-actually-a-club.

Armed with an arsenal of moderately coherent gags, this anime isn’t shying away from bold jokes and employs a liberal amount of visual comedy to really drive the points home, all while poking fun at established tropes of the genre and not taking itself too seriously.

Every gag seems to raise stakes and tension, in situations where there otherwise should be none, and our three protagonists lie and manipulate to keep the worst from happening.

The downside of this mix is that the cute moments are so heavily contrasted by both the visual comedy and the almost sinister outbursts from the characters, that those few cute moments may as well not be there. If you’re here for moe, you’re outta luck.

Up for some solidly written comedy with visual gags that pokes fun of the cute girls genre? Asobi Asobase may be the show for you.”

####Another Perspective, courtesy of /u/futuristic-arrival:

Consider It

β€œIf you consider abrupt shouting to be the peak of comedy then this is the show for you! Asobi Asobase follows three high school girls, Olivia (a devious foreign student), Hanako (a salty wannabe popular girl) and Kasumi (a quiet but intimidating girl), in their quest to... pass the time together at school.

A good deal of the jokes revolve around yelling over relatively mundane occurrences and presenting the characters off model for added absurdity. If you enjoy more thought out comedic sketches then this is probably not going to rank high for you this season. To its credit it has a very lovely, simple art style (when it’s being used) and the characters are refreshing, if a little generic.

The character interactions are all very relatable and developed, making even the most mundane events interesting. The characters feel real and have top-tier chemistry with each other which often leads to humorous and well-executed comedy. Non Non Biyori perfectly captures childhood memories and creates a powerful sense of nostalgia.

Non Non Biyori is a SOL/comedy that focuses on the daily lives of the 4 girls Natsumi, Komari, Hotaru, and Renge who all live in the same rural village, Asahigaoka, and attend the same class at school despite being in different grades. The story is simple with each episode telling its own little narrative usually with a mix of a comedic segment and a more laid-back and sentimental SOL segment.
